Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Rings of Glory – The Unstoppable Triumphs of Alex Makunouchi and Takamura Mamoru
The bell rang, signaling the start of the fight, and the crowd erupted with anticipation. Both Alex and Riku wasted no time, stepping straight to the center of the ring, their postures sharp and focused.
Alex opened the bout with a lightning-fast jab aimed at Riku's head. Riku, already anticipating the move, leaned back and dodged it cleanly. However, Alex followed up immediately, firing another set of rapid jabs in succession. Each jab snapped forward with precision and speed, forcing Riku to stay on the defensive.
Riku tried to adjust, thinking to exchange fire with a jab-straight combination of his own. He planted his feet and launched his attack, aiming to push Alex back.
But Alex was ready.
He parried the jab with ease, deflecting it to the side. As Riku's straight came barreling forward, Alex tilted his head just enough to evade it. In one fluid motion, he countered with a powerful cross that landed flush on Riku's jaw, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The impact wobbled Riku, forcing him to stumble a step back. His eyes widened in shock as Alex pressed forward, seizing the momentum.
Alex unleashed a relentless combo: a triple jab that pinned Riku against the ropes, followed by a brutal cross to the body. He transitioned seamlessly into a lead hook to the face, snapping Riku's head to the side, and immediately followed with a lightning-fast straight cross.
Not done yet, Alex dug a lead uppercut into Riku's body, driving the air from his lungs. The finishing blow came as Alex swung a thunderous hook to the head, the force of it leaving Riku reeling.
Riku sagged against the corner ropes, his hands barely raised in defense, his legs betraying him as they threatened to give out. The referee didn't hesitate, stepping in and waving his hands to stop the fight before any more damage could be dealt.
The arena erupted in chaos, the crowd roaring in amazement at the decisive performance. Alex turned to face his corner, raising his gloves in victory as the referee stepped between him and the now-slumped Riku, who clung to the ropes for support.
It was over. Alex Makunouchi had delivered on his promise: absolute dominationAs the referee held Alex's arm high in the air, the announcer declared, "The winner by TKO at 1 minute and 47 seconds of Round 1… Alex 'The Great' Makunouchi!"
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, their cheers echoing through the arena. Alex stepped back, raising both gloves in the air, his face stoic but his eyes blazing with intensity.
Moments later, an interviewer rushed into the ring, microphone in hand, and approached Alex.
"Alex, congratulations on an incredible performance! You delivered exactly what you promised two months ago—a dominant victory. Do you have anything to say to your fans or any future opponents watching this?"
Alex took the microphone, his breathing steady despite the energy in the arena. He glanced around at the roaring crowd, his voice calm but commanding.
"For my fans," Alex began, "thank you for your support. Every cheer, every word of encouragement—you fuel me to be better every day. I appreciate you all."
The crowd roared in response, their admiration filling the air.
Alex's expression hardened slightly as he shifted his focus. "Now, I just want to clarify something to all my opponents, past,
present, and future," he said, his voice firm. "I respect every fighter who steps into the ring with me. It takes guts to do this, and for that, they have my respect."
The crowd murmured, appreciating his candidness.
Then, Alex's gaze sharpened as he turned his attention toward the audience, pointing directly at a figure seated ringside. It was none other than Shinobu Iga, the reigning Japanese Lightweight Champion.
"And Shinobu Iga," Alex said, his voice cutting through the noise, "I'm coming for your head. You're next!"
The arena exploded with cheers, the audience roaring in anticipation of what could be one of the biggest fights in Japanese boxing. The cameras panned to Shinobu Iga, whose expression remained stoic but whose eyes flashed with acknowledgment.
Alex handed the microphone back to the interviewer, his job done.
The energy in the arena was electric, and Alex had once again proven why he was a force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division.
15 minutes later
As the lights dimmed and Takamura's walkout music boomed through the arena, the crowd erupted in cheers. Takamura emerged from the tunnel, exuding confidence and raw power, his fists wrapmped tightly and his eyes fixed on the ring. The commentators buzzed with excitement, reminding the audience of Takamura's unyielding dominance in the middleweight division.
Not long after, Yoshiaki Yajima made his way to the ring, his expression calm but determined. The reigning champion looked every bit the part, and his team flanked him as they approached the squared circle. The crowd roared in anticipation, sensing the gravity of this clash.
Once inside the ring, both fighters moved to the center. The referee gave them the instructions, and without hesitation, both extended their gloves for a quick, sharp tap—an acknowledgment of the war about to unfold.
The bell rang, and Takamura immediately charged forward with his trademark aggression. He unleashed a barrage of punches—an uppercut, a hook, each thrown with ferocity. Yajima kept his guard tight, absorbing the blows and waiting for his moment.
As Takamura wound up for a powerful cross, Yajima struck. He countered with a sharp cross of his own, landing clean on Takamura's chin. The impact sent Takamura to his knees, stunning the arena into silence.
The referee began the count, his voice clear and deliberate. "One… two… three…"
In the crowd, Ippo jumped to his feet, yelling at the top of his lungs, "Takamura-san, get up!"
Aoki and Kimura followed suit, their voices joining the chorus of fans urging Takamura to rise. Backstage, Alex, watching the fight on a monitor, clenched his fists and yelled, "Get up, Takamura! You're not done yet!"
The referee reached the count of eight, and with a defiant glare, Takamura pushed himself to his feet. He raised his gloves, signaling he was ready to continue.
Yajima, sensing an opportunity, charged forward, throwing a cross that Takamura narrowly avoided by leaning back. Yajima pressed on, peppering Takamura with jabs, trying to bait him into an exchange.
As Yajima launched a heavy cross, Takamura slipped inside the punch and unleashed a devastating uppercut that rocked Yajima. The impact sent him stumbling back into the ropes, his defenses faltering.
Takamura seized the moment, rushing in with relentless body shots, each one sinking into Yajima's core. He followed up with an uppercut that broke through Yajima's guard.
Seeing the opening, Takamura threw a powerful cross. Yajima smirked, preparing to counter just like he had earlier in the fight. But Takamura pivoted sharply to the left, evading the counter and launching his own devastating cross. He followed it up with a thunderous uppercut that snapped Yajima's head back.
Yajima's body sagged, his hands dropping as his legs gave out. The referee quickly stepped in, waving his arms to signal the end of the fight. Takamura roared triumphantly, his fists raised high.
The crowd exploded in celebration as the referee declared, "Winner by TKO and New Japan Middleweight Champion, Takamura Mamoru!"
The championship belt was handed to Takamura, who raised it high above his head, soaking in the adoration of the crowd. The cheers grew louder as he climbed the ropes, holding the belt up with one hand and flexing his other arm in victory.
Takamura's grin was wide and feral as he basked in his triumph, the arena chanting his name in unison: "Takamura! Takamura!"
