Chapter 72: Chapter 34: Agony of past
Kiyoko, another member of the Naein Clan, turned to Kashimo with a quizzical expression and questioned, "Why do you appear so concerned? Kyuren is powerful in his own right. He can handle himself in this battle, can't he?"
Kashimo sighed, his ancient eyes filled with a melancholic wisdom as he turned to face Kiyoko. The weight of centuries bore down upon his shoulders, the knowledge of the countless lives and destinies that had been shaped by the whims and machinations of the Naein Clan. He spoke softly, his voice tinged with a bittersweet nostalgia and a deep-seated unease.
"Ah, Kiyoko," he murmured, shaking his head slowly. "You are young yet, your faith in our clan's strength still untested by the cruel trials of time. Kyuren is indeed mighty, there can be no doubt of that - but the power he faces now... it is beyond anything we have ever known."
Kashimo's gaze drifted back to the impending confrontation, his eyes narrowing as he beheld the writhing darkness that surrounded Kanji. "That creature... that thing that once called itself Kanji... it is no longer his brother. It is a monster born of the abyss, a creature of pure, unadulterated malevolence. The darkness that fills him, it... it has a life of its own. It hungers. It devours. And it grows stronger with each passing moment."
He turned back to Kiyoko, his expression grave and haunted. "Kyuren may be powerful, but he has never faced a foe like this. The Kanji we knew, the one we respected alot our young lord... he is gone. Vanished. And in his place stands this... this abomination. I fear for him, Kiyoko. I fear that even with all his strength and courage, he may not be enough to stand against the darkness that Kanji has become."
Kashimo's voice dropped to a whisper, the words heavy with dread and foreboding. "And if Kyuren falls... if our beloved lord falls to this monster's machinations... then all is lost. Our clan, our legacy, our very way of life... it will all be consumed by the darkness. And I fear that the world will not be far behind."
He shook his head, a shudder running through his ancient frame. "So you see, Kiyoko... my concern is not misplaced. The battle we are about to witness... it will be the battle to end all battles. And the fate of everything we hold dear rests upon its outcome."
Kashimo turned to Kiyoko, his expression solemn as he expanded on the matter. "You see, Kyuren was born just seconds before Kanji. Both of them share the Naein blood, but their abilities and races differ. Kyuren possesses Dragon powers, while Kanji possesses Demonic powers. This difference in abilities is what makes their conflict all the more intense and unpredictable."
Kashimo continued, his tone grave as he revealed further details about their upbringing. "You must also understand that they grew up under vastly different circumstances. Kyuren was trained by special instructors and enjoyed the love and care of both parents and siblings. On the other hand, Kanji was groomed from the age of five to be a weapon for Ryuhei, the former leader of the Naein Clan. He was trained relentlessly, given no respite, and the only person who showed him any affection was his mother, Rin Naein."
Kiyoko's expression betrayed her surprise, but her interest piqued as she asked, "Quite remarkable circumstances indeed. But speaking of which, what is Kyuren's win rate against Kanji? Surely, he has fought his brother before, right?"
Kashimo responded, his voice tinged with a hint of anticipation. "That's correct, they have never engaged in combat with each other until this very day. You see, Kyuren recently obtained the title of 'God of Martial Arts,' while Kanji is on par with him in terms of close-quarters fighting skills. This clash is far more significant than mere sibling rivalry; it's a battle that will determine the destiny of the Naein Clan."
Kiyoko's eyes widened as the true stakes of the impending confrontation came into focus. The knowledge that Kyuren and Kanji had never clashed directly before, despite their shared blood and upbringing, sent a shiver down her spine. The fact that her lord had recently ascended to the prestigious title of 'God of Martial Arts' only underscored the immense challenge he now faced.
Her mind raced with the implications of their eerily matched close-quarters combat abilities. Two titans, each at the pinnacle of physical prowess, now poised to collide in a battle that would shake the very foundations of their world. It was a confrontation that transcended mere sibling rivalry, as Kashimo had so eloquently pointed out.
Kiyoko's heart hammered in her chest as she beheld the brothers standing at the precipice of war. The fate of the Naein Clan, the destiny of countless lives and generations to come, rested upon the outcome of this single, earth-shattering battle. And with it, the delicate balance of light and darkness, the very fabric of reality, seemed to hang in the balance.
She turned to Kashimo, her expression a mix of trepidation and fierce determination. "I understand the gravity of the moment," she said, her voice steady and resolute. "This is more than just a battle between brothers - it is a clash that will determine the path of our clan for eternity. Kyuren must win, no matter the cost. For if Kanji should prevail... if that darkness should consume our lord..."
Kiyoko trailed off, unable to voice the grim conclusion that lurked in the shadows of her mind. She squared her shoulders, a fierce and unyielding light kindling in her eyes as she met the ancient one's gaze. "I will stand with him, to the bitter end. As will every loyal son and daughter of the Naein. We will not let our lord face this darkness alone."
