Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Sausages
"What are you talking about!" Liu Jia said angrily, "The professor is just injured!"
"Is what I'm saying illogical?" the middle-aged woman spoke with conviction, "There are no Cannibal Players left in our carriage now, we can get through the last night safely. If he turns into a monster, won't he kill us all?"
"So what do you want to do?" Xu Huo asked her.
The middle-aged woman choked, hesitated, and then said, "Maybe we should force him out..."
"It's all Cannibal Monsters outside at night, driving someone out is sending Professor Han to his death!" Liu Jia yelled furiously, "The professor has been protecting us all along. If it wasn't for him, you might have ended up like those in the Third-Class Seat, foolishly turning on the light and getting yourself killed!"
The first night was still manageable, but yesterday, when the elderly man suddenly mutated, it was highly probable that someone, oblivious to the situation, might rashly turn on the light. Before the Third-Class Seat self-destructed, there were roars resembling those of wild beasts.
The middle-aged woman's face twisted, spitting while she spoke, "You have the nerve to criticize me! If you saw someone eating people earlier, why didn't you say something sooner? Were you waiting for the others to die to show off how capable you are?"
Liu Jia was so angry her eyes turned red. Wang Xiaohui wanted to say something to calm things but couldn't get a word in, while the woman continued to rant, "Anyway, I refuse to stay with this dangerous person..."
Xu Huo suddenly spoke up, "Then go to another carriage."
The middle-aged woman was taken aback, staring at his calm face. After a while, she finally held back her curse words.
Xu Huo's earlier actions had made an impression. Professor Han said with a wry smile, "I'll go to the Third-Class Seat then. The transition carriage still works. At night, if you lock the door, even I won't be able to open it."
"Let's deal with the wound first." Xu Huo used Little Knife to scrape off the dead flesh on his wound, then squeezed out the pus and blood, only stopping when the blood flowed clean, "After getting off the train, head straight to the hospital, don't die from an infected wound."
Professor Han thanked him but was still determined to leave.
"But the door in the Third-Class Seat is already broken. What if those monsters get in?" Liu Jia was the first to disagree.
"I can keep an eye on Professor Han," Yan Jiayu offered.
"Can you handle it?" Xu Huo looked at her. Professor Han's condition was different from that of the Cannibal Players, so what changes could occur were unclear to everyone.
"No problem." Yan Jiayu patted the table, "If I pin him against the back door, he definitely won't be able to get out."
Her combat ability was well known. Xu Huo could see that, unlike him who was half-heartedly involved, Yan Jiayu had a solid foundation in martial arts, and with the added strength, none of the players here would be a match for her.
"That works too." With precautions in place, Xu Huo didn't bring up the matter again and got up to check the front door.
The windows of the First-Class Seat had been covered, and there was a very faint set of bloody footprints under the door. His hand rested on the doorknob.
"Thank you for just now," Professor Han came over, "Also, thank you for saving Liu Jia. She told me that it was you who had Yan Jiayu take her place at the front door."
"Yan Jiayu did the hard work, I wasn't much help," Xu Huo modestly replied.
Professor Han still thanked him profusely and then expressed his sentiment, "I've seen some Evolvers before. In the end, they all lost their humanity... But I still believe in the brilliance of human nature. If it weren't for that old man, I would be dead."
"He's beyond saving now." However, the old man had proven one thing: any player who had eaten human flesh had no way of turning back, and the result of stubbornly refusing to eat was to become a monster that had lost all humanity.
Xu Huo turned back to look at the other people in the carriage.
"You're really amazing. If it weren't for you, I definitely would have died yesterday!" Liu Jia was thanking Yan Jiayu.
Yan Jiayu scratched her hair, "I grew up in a temple since I was little, carrying water and chopping wood all the time, so I'm exceptionally strong."
The two girls showed admiration and envy.
"...Do you think we will go back to normal after we get off this time?" Liu Jia added, "What if we get hungry again..."
One could barely tolerate it for a while, but over a long period, who knew if one day they would become Cannibal Players.
"I don't think so." Wang Xiaohui shook her head, "Didn't the train announcement say that this journey is to classify players? We're not Cannibal Players, and we haven't eaten anyone since boarding, so we're different from the Cannibal Players, we don't need to survive by cannibalism."
"Once you've eaten human flesh, you must always eat it, if it were me, I'd rather be dead!" Liu Jia said.
"Are you guys hungry? I have some food here." The middle-aged woman who had been staying in the corner suddenly smiled and came over, pulling out a few transparent-wrapped sausages from under her apron.
Because of the previous quarrel, the three girls ignored her, but the middle-aged woman, being presumptuous, grabbed Liu Jia's hand, "Young lady, you're quite fiery. Don't take my previous words to heart. Professor Han and Mr. Xu are injured; they need us to keep watch tonight."
What she said made sense, Liu Jia and Wang Xiaohui each took one, then the former turned back, "Professor, Mr. Xu, do you want some?"
The plump and elastic sausages were wrapped in vacuum seals, looking tempting.
Xu Huo walked over, and under the nervous watch of the middle-aged woman, he picked one up and sniffed it at his nose, then looked up at her, "You said a few unpleasant words to the young lady, and for that you would harm someone, is it necessary?"
The others halted, and Professor Han was the first to react, immediately pulling the three young ladies back.
"What... what do you mean?" The middle-aged woman's face stiffened.
Xu Huo loosened his grip and crushed the sausage that had fallen on the ground with his foot, the meat squeezing out from the plastic bag was an abnormal red, and gradually a bloody smell began to spread.
"What kind of meat is this?" Liu Jia stared at the middle-aged woman in horror.
"What kind of meat, of course it's pork! More than thirty a pound, if you don't want to eat it that's fine, but don't waste food. Young people these days..."
"You're the last Cannibal Player." Xu Huo interrupted the middle-aged woman's incessant chatter.
"What Cannibal Player... Didn't you say yesterday that there were only six Cannibal Players?" The middle-aged woman's smile twisted slightly, "Out of nowhere, why are you targeting me? I haven't attacked anyone..."
"You haven't attacked anyone, but you have ingested." Xu Huo had already picked up a chair, and the middle-aged woman looked wary, then shouted at Professor Han and the others, "One moment you say six, the next you say seven! I think he's the Cannibal Player, you bunch of fools are being deceived by him!"
"She did eat something indeed." Liu Jia turned pale, "I saw her the night before last, but I thought she was eating snacks...ugh!"
"Don't you come any closer!" Professor Han warned the middle-aged woman as she approached, speaking sternly, "Come any closer and I won't be polite!"
The middle-aged woman's demeanor turned fierce, and she suddenly pulled a fruit knife from under her apron and lunged at Xu Huo, swinging it, "You forced me!"
Her speed was not slow, and although Xu Huo quickly dodged, he still received a cut on his side. Seeing the middle-aged woman sprint toward the front door, he stepped aside.
Unexpectedly, the middle-aged woman changed direction halfway and charged at Liu Jia, determined to drag her down with her!
"Go die!"
