Chapter 7: 007. Uncle Bo Jiu
"Wuwu."
Grandfather Lin's voice brought Lin Wu's attention back.
He said with guilt, "Grandpa is sorry for letting you down."
Lin Wu replied indifferently, "You have nothing to apologize for."
"No, I shouldn't have called you back to Beicheng on behalf of Shenghai and the others. If you hadn't come, you wouldn't have suffered such humiliation last night!" Grandfather Lin said excitedly.
He had always known that his granddaughter was proud and strong-willed. How could she bear such public embarrassment?!
Lin Wu's expression remained calm, "You don't need to worry. I've never taken Lin Shenghai and Fang Ruling seriously, nor will their actions upset me."
Grandfather Lin didn't believe it.
Back when they were still in the countryside, he often saw her standing in front of the living room cabinet, staring at the family portrait of Lin Shenghai and Fang Ruling with their two sons for a long time.
Deep in Wuwu's heart, she surely still hoped to get along well with her family.
But now that things had become so tense, and his daughter-in-law just spoke so harshly in front of Wuwu, even if he wanted to help mend their relationship, he couldn't bring himself to speak.
Grandfather Lin, afraid of making Lin Wu sad, changed the subject, "Ruling said she didn't call you back to the Lin Family last night. Wuwu, where did you stay?"
Lin Wu answered, "Yujiadigarden."
Grandfather Lin was surprised, "Really?"
Though he had only been in Beicheng for a year, he knew some things. For instance, Yujiadigarden was in a prime location in Beicheng, and the residents there were from prestigious backgrounds; it wasn't a place just anyone with money could move into.
The Lin Family had been working hard for over a decade; even if they could enter Shenggui, they still couldn't come near Yujiadigarden.
How could his granddaughter be living in Yujiadigarden?
Lin Wu said, "Really."
Grandfather Lin felt a mix of emotions. He realized that his granddaughter must have said so to keep him from worrying, to comfort him.
Thinking this, Grandfather Lin felt even more heartache and said, "Wuwu, rest assured, even if you are not a member of the Lin Family, you will always be Grandpa's good girl, and I like you the most."
A flicker of confusion crossed Lin Wu's eyes, not understanding why Grandfather Lin had jumped so drastically in topics.
She hummed in acknowledgment, "I'll be living in Beicheng more often in the future. Grandpa, just call me if you need anything."
Grandfather Lin forced a smile, "Grandpa actually knows that his health isn't good and won't last much longer. Wuwu, don't worry too much about me. As long as you are doing well, Grandpa can be at peace."
Lin Wu didn't want to hear this and said, "The incense I brought is good for your health; remember to have the caregiver light it for you every day."
This wasn't the first time Lin Wu had brought incense for Grandfather Lin.
Every time he lit those incenses, Grandfather Lin felt much more comfortable and enjoyed using them. But he was somewhat concerned, "Good things are never cheap. Wuwu, that must cost a lot of money, right?"
Lin Wu said lightly, "I made them myself, they're not expensive, just time-consuming."
Reassured, Grandfather Lin asked Lin Wu to open the bottom drawer of the bedside table.
Lin Wu did as told and saw a bank card inside.
Grandfather Lin said, "This is the money Grandpa has saved over the years, it's a hundred thousand. You've just finished your college entrance exams and are about to go to university. There will be many expenses, and this should be enough for your four years of university."
Lin Wu replied, "Keep it for yourself, I have money."
"What money do you have as a kid? Just listen to me."
Grandfather Lin insisted, and Lin Wu could only accept it.
Grandfather Lin rambled, "Before, Grandpa didn't have much money and could only give you a thousand for pocket money every month. Now that you've grown up, you should carry more money, buy some pretty clothes and such. Grandpa sees other girls like makeup; you should buy some for yourself too. Don't shortchange yourself. My Wuwu is beautiful and will definitely look the best dressed up..."
As he talked, Grandfather Lin grew tired and sleepy.
Lin Wu interrupted him, helping him lie down.
"Wuwu, don't blame your parents, they just... haven't lived with you for too long, and have become estranged," said the elderly Lin with a strained spirit.
Lin Wu hummed faintly in response and sat in the ward for a while after the old man fell asleep.
Not until someone knocked on the door did the attending doctor come in quietly, softly reminding Lin Wu that the new doctor had arrived.
Lin Wu took one last look at the elderly Lin, then stood up and followed the doctor out.
"The doctor's surname is Bo; he is now in the dean's office,"
the attending doctor said as he led the way.
At the mention of the surname, Lin Wu was slightly startled, her brows furrowed just a bit.
They quickly reached the dean's office, where the attending doctor knocked on the door and, hearing "come in" from inside, pushed the door open.
But he didn't go in; instead, he stepped aside to give way to Lin Wu.
Lin Wu stepped inside, glancing around, and stopped abruptly.
In the spacious office, the dean—with a Mediterranean haircut and a slightly plump figure—stood by the sofa, looking respectfully at the man seated there.
Even seated, the man's tall and upright stature was evident.
His broad shoulders and narrow waist flowed seamlessly into the smooth lines of his shoulders, extending down the side seams of his coat. Even a simple white lab coat appeared well-defined on him.
As Lin Wu looked over, he also raised his eyes, meeting her gaze.
In an instant, the man's eyebrows and eyes lifted slightly, his expression a mix of a smile and not, saying, "Dean Wu invited me to meet you?"
Dean Wu hurriedly interjected, "Let me introduce you; this is Miss Lin, a major shareholder of our hospital. Many of our medical devices from abroad were donated by her at no cost!"
Then, turning to Lin Wu, he said, "Miss Lin, this is Doctor Bo, a specialist brought in by Beijing, with exceptional medical skills and a 100% success rate in surgeries. He has quite a reputation in the industry..."
Before Dean Wu could finish, the man on the sofa suddenly rose and strode over to Lin Wu, passing the coffee table to stand before her.
"Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Bo, Bo Yuting."
He extended his hand to Lin Wu, lowering his voice so only she could hear, "Little neighbor, what a coincidence."
And he was the owner of Villa No. 32 at Guiyan Dynasty Garden that Lin Wu had encountered last night.
At the same time, Lin Wu also realized who he was.
Among the Bos in Beijing, there was only one family, the Bo Family, which was ranked among the top five families alongside the Lu Family.
Of those in the Bo Family who practiced medicine, Lin Wu had heard of only one.
—Bo Jiuye.
Lu Guiyan of the Lu Family was already a marvel, but Bo Jiuye, Bo Yuting, was truly unparalleled.
He took over the Bo family business at the age of thirteen, showing a genius for business. Every project he touched turned gold, and he played seasoned business foxes at their own game.
At sixteen, he entered Beijing University, studying three disciplines at once. Not only did he complete his coursework in two years, but he also gained admission to a top foreign institution to pursue his master's and doctoral degrees, achieving outstanding results.
At the age of twenty, he enlisted in the military service, undergoing training for three years. It was said that even the top leaders in the central government personally intervened in an attempt to keep this talent.
However, for some reason, Bo Yuting adamantly decided to leave the service.
Late, he disappeared for a year.
When he reappeared before the public, he was no longer in business, politics, or the military. He had handed over the Bo family affairs to his fourth uncle and worked as a doctor for three years.
But Bo Yuting had a quirky temperament, saving people only when it suited his mood, and getting an appointment for surgery from him was prohibitively expensive.
