Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Li Jing gazed at the photo frame for a long time before finally setting it back down. He let out a deep sigh. "Mucheng, father is sorry…"

As the phone rang, Li Mucheng emerged from the bathroom, wrapped in a towel. Steam still lingered in the air, evidence of her recent bath. Her long hair was wet, and her small, bare feet rested on the cold floor. Her round, plump toes looked particularly delicate.
"Hello?"
"Mucheng! Finally, you picked up! I couldn't reach you last night, and today the servants at your house told me you'd been kidnapped. Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?"
A sweet, melodic voice came from the other end of the call, sounding almost like a fairy had stepped out of a forest.
Surprisingly, the usually cold-faced Li Mucheng broke into a radiant smile as she answered. Her expression was as refreshing as a hibiscus flower emerging from the water, her beauty striking.
"Yuxin, I'm fine. I wanted to visit you last night, but I didn't expect something like this to happen. Don't worry, I wasn't harmed."
"You got kidnapped, and you're still laughing? Do you know how worried I was? How about I ask my dad to send more bodyguards to escort you next time?"
"There's no need. My dad's already working on finding me more powerful bodyguards. Humph! Who even needs his concern?"
"Mucheng, don't be mad. I'm sure your dad has his reasons."
"Reasons? You mean like how he's busy working outside while my mom is on the brink of death? Why did my mom fall in love with such a heartless man?"
Li Mucheng's voice grew heated, nearly shouting. Then, as if realizing something, she quickly softened her tone.
"Sorry, Yuxin, I didn't mean to take it out on you."
"It's okay, Mucheng. We're best friends, after all. ~ My dad's punished me before too, so I get it. Let's talk about it over the phone."
"All right."
"Well then, Mucheng, I've got to go. I have music class soon."
"Bye, Yuxin."
After hanging up, Li Mucheng flopped onto her bed despite her still-damp body. Reaching under her pillow, she pulled out a fox mask and tapped it gently.
"Who are you? Why did you kidnap me? Was it just for fun? How strange…"
"Achoo!"
At the same time, Ye Feng sneezed for no apparent reason as he exited a convenience store.
"Who's cursing me now? Ugh, I've got to remember to pay the rent this month."
Rubbing his nose, Ye Feng continued his walk home. Once there, he heard the familiar chime of the system notification. After putting away his groceries, he opened the system menu. Upon careful inspection, he noticed that some of the previously illegible symbols in the illustrations now contained faintly recognizable characters.
Name: Li Mucheng
Background: Daughter of Li Jing from the Li Group
Progress: 1% (additional rewards at 20%)
"Why is Li Mucheng's name appearing in the illustrations? Does this mean I'm supposed to… collect everyone I've interacted with? But what's the point of that?"
Ye Feng pondered this for a while but couldn't come to a conclusion. In the end, he decided to let it go. "Things will become clear when the time comes," he thought. For now, survival was his top priority.
That night, after a simple dinner, Ye Feng was preparing to shower and sleep when his phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Ye Feng, right? You've passed the preliminary test. Come to the villa entrance tomorrow and wait there. We'll discuss the next steps in person."
"Got it."
The caller was straightforward and hung up immediately after explaining the details. That suited Ye Feng perfectly.
Efficiency, speed, and convenience.
"Hah… The initial hurdles are finally over. Let's hope everything goes smoothly from here on out."
"What? Why wasn't I told earlier?"
The next morning, Li Mucheng's voice rang out sharply in the dining room. Beside her, Ah Fu lowered his head and apologized. "I'm sorry, Miss. This was the master's decision."
"Why is he doing this? I don't need a tutor! Go back and tell him I can take care of myself—I don't need his hypocritical concern."
Previously calm, Li Mucheng now bristled like a kitten with its tail stepped on. Her tone was fierce.
"Miss, this is a direct order from the master. We have no choice but to follow it. Please don't make things difficult for us."
"Hmph! Maybe he just wants someone to spy on me again. I don't need him worrying about whether I live or die. If he cares so much, why hasn't he visited my mother?"
Her voice trembled slightly, her bravado giving way to a hint of tears. Gradually, her anger subsided. After a pause, she finally spoke again.
"Where is this person?"
"He's already waiting outside the villa."
"Bring him in."
"Yes, Miss."
After Ah Fu left, the hand holding Li Mucheng's table knife trembled slightly. She suddenly lost her appetite. Pushing the utensils aside, she stood and walked toward her room.
"Thank you for waiting, Ye Feng," Ah Fu greeted him at the gate and led him inside.
"The young miss is still having breakfast. You may need to wait a little longer."
"That's fine. Waiting is part of the job, after all."
This kid's got a good attitude, thought Ah Fu. Intelligent people were always easier to deal with.
But Ye Feng had his own thoughts. He wasn't just here to fulfill a system task—he was also looking forward to the substantial pay and the chance to improve his life. This was his path to prosperity!
As they walked, Ye Feng observed the lavish decor and luxurious features of the surrounding villas. He couldn't help but marvel at how good life was for the rich.
Upon entering the house, Ah Fu called over a maid, who escorted Ye Feng to the living room and gestured for him to sit.
"Mr. Ye Feng, we'll now sign a contract with you on behalf of the company to hire you as a tutor. Here's the contract with the specifics—please review it."
Ye Feng skimmed the document and, finding no issues, nodded.
"I have no objections."
"Good. We expect you to honor the terms. The current salary is 100,000 yuan per month, plus various benefits. The contract is for a two-month trial period. Is that acceptable to you?"
How much? 100,000 yuan! How could a tutor earn so much?
Ye Feng forced himself to remain composed and nodded as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
"Well then, let's work together happily," Ah Fu said, offering his hand.
"No need for formalities," Ye Feng replied, signing the contract.
Ah Fu smiled, retrieving the signed document and handing it to the maid. Then, he guided Ye Feng to where Li Mucheng was waiting.
