Koushin: Konoha’s Dragonborn[Completed]

“Alright, are you guys ready?” I asked as I looked at the shinobi and kunoichi in front of me. It had been a week since I had been promoted, and I finally received my first mission. I was to head out to help Jiraiya’s mission in one of Orochimaru’s bases.

Naruto left with Jiraiya a week ago after getting his promotion. After discovering and scouting the base, they discovered Sound 4 dead inside the base. And for some strange reason, all four of them had scorched scars on their shoulders.

Of course, when I first read the mission report, I knew Orochimaru came back to life. Although I had my doubts about whether Kabuto would revive the Snake Sannin or not, from the looks of it, he did. But I also know it isn’t entirely Kabuto’s doing.

Anyways, Tsunade called me the day before to assign me the mission. I was to take three newly promoted Chunin and several Genin from our teams and rush to help Jiraiya on this mission.

“We are ready, sir,” Reported my lieutenant.

“Can you explain once again why Shino is second in charge while we are Chunin?” Shin asked as he pointed at the stoic teen.

“Because I like him more,” I answered tersely. “Now, let’s head out.”

With that, we left the village for the Sound.

“Ero Sennin, why are we still here? Seems like the base is empty.” Naruto answered as he gazed at the ruined base.

“Because, Naruto, there are snakes slithering all around the base. If it was ruined and abandoned they wouldn’t be here.” Jiraiya answered as he looked all around. “There is a wide area of Genjutsu covering this base.

“Is it possible?” Naruto asked with a shocked expression.

“Everything is possible with Seals, Naruto. Remember that.” Jiraiya said as he bit his finger. “Summon Jutsu!”

“You rarely summon me, Jiraiya boy.” An average-sized Toad appeared where Jiraiya slapped his summoning seal. Average sized compared to the giant Toad summons of course. The toad was two meters tall and had light green skin with different colored circles all around its body.

“Gamayurei, can you take a look at that base over there and tell me what you see?” Jiraiya asked as he pointed to the ruined base far away.

“Hmm?” The toad looked at the base then yelped in fear. “What is this?”

“I was hoping for you to tell me. Whatever I try, I cannot see beyond the illusion, despite knowing it is there.” Jiraiya looked just as terrified.

“I don’t know who set this thing up, but even I can’t see beyond the veil of illusions. I suggest you go back to Jiraiya, this is not something you or we can deal with.” The Toad answered in fear and vanished.

“That was… pitiful.” Naruto couldn’t help but scorn.

“Don’t underestimate Gamayurei boy.” Jiraiya snorted, “He is the best Genjutsu Specialist in all of Toad Mountain.”

“And how good are the toads in Genjutsu?” Naruto asked.

“Not really good.”

“I thought so.” Naruto shook his head and bit his thumb, “Summon Jutsu.”

“What’s up, Lil Contractor?” A tengu appeared and greeted Naruto jovially. “Oh, what do we got here?”

Jiraiya looked at the three meters long Tengu who was looking at the ruined base strangely.

“Can you see it?” He asked.

“I can.” Tengu nodded grimly. “I doubt anyone beside a Tengu can see it with that sort of Genjutsu.”

It is dangerous, Lil Contractor. Don’t go in there," Tengu warned, then looked at Jiraiya..

“What do you see?” asked the old man.

“Snake Sannin came back to life and took over a body who can use Natural Energy at will. This clan was damned with loss of control from their creation as they were too strong without that little drawback, but the snake found a way around the curse. He now took over the body and can use that little gift as he wishes. That is too dangerous.” Tengu explained in distress.

“What?!” Jiraiya exclaimed. “Orochimaru is alive?”

“He sure is.” Tsukutengu shook his head. “As you are now, Toad Sennin, you will not be able to beat him. Not when you are still feeling guilty. Leave and don’t let our Lil Contractor risk his life for your foolishness.”

“We are here.” I stopped the group of Chunin and Genin as I looked at the hidden mark left behind by the spy. This was one of Orochimaru’s bases, and according to intel, there were some key names here holding the fort. Jiraiya didn’t have time to raid this place as he was following Kabuto, so I was sent with a bunch of newly-promoted Chunin and Genin instead. Of course, according to intel, there was no real danger here, but it never hurts to err on the side of caution.

“Neji, tell me what your elf eyes see.” I turned towards the white-eyed Chunin at my side.

“What?” He asked dumbfounded.

“Just tell me what you see, dang it.” I snorted. No one reads Tolkien nowadays. “Shino, send some insects to see if you can find a backdoor or something.”

“Done already, looking as we speak.” Answered my second in command.

“Good Job.” I smirked and turned to Neji, “So?”

“Not much to see. There are several hundred men in the base, but as far as I can tell they are all prisoners. Other than them, there are only a bunch of others.” Neji reported. I turned to look at Genin and sighed.

“I can’t risk you without making sure,” I answered.

“That is not the mission, Koushin.” Neji snarled.

“I don’t give a fuck what the mission is.” I snapped back. “So long as I am in charge, safety cuts out everything else. Is that understood?”

“Yes, sir.” He answered unhappily but I don’t care.

“Any luck?” I turned to Shino.

“Yes, I found an entrance.” Shino looked troubled. “It was too easy, to be honest. As if…”

“... they want us to find it?” I completed.

“Yeah.” He nodded.

“Read their Chakra levels?” I asked again.

“Mostly Genin level, around twenty. Only 5 Chunin-level.” He reported.

“Alright, let’s camp out for the night.” I gave the order as they carried it. Neji looked unhappy, but it didn’t matter. I walked away from there and cut my thumb with my kunai. “Summon Jutsu”

A giant spider with a female upper body and a plant appeared in front of me. “Can you see that base?” I asked, the female arachnoid nodded while the plant, Harrada, shivered in affirmation. “I need you to infiltrate the base and give me a full report. Scale the enemies’ power and find whatever dangerous-looking trap you can.”

“Shall be done, my liege.” Spider said and vanished. The plant also dug the ground and disappeared.

“Something smells off with all this shit, but what is it?”
