Chapter 60: The End of Fight between Dragons
Third-person POV
The Cannibal roared, his thunderous voice reverberating across the skies of Dragonstone. With wings that dwarfed even Meleys's impressive span by great margin, the ancient black dragon exuded an aura of raw power and unbridled fury. Despite possessing such raw power, he appears to be struggling and barely escaping the combined onslaught of the two younger Dragons than him.
Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm, let out a piercing scream, his serpentine body coiling through the air as he challenged the Cannibal once more. His crimson scales gleamed like fresh blood in the midmorning light, his elongated neck twisting as he prepared to strike. Daemon Targaryen sat astride him, his Valyrian steel blade Dark Sister gleaming at his side. "Let's show this old beast what it means to face a dragon of the blood," Daemon growled, his bond with Caraxes thrumming in the back of his mind.
Meleys, the Red Queen, flanked Caraxes, her brilliant blood red scales glowing like embers in the sky. She was a regal predator, her movements graceful yet deliberate, as if she were analyzing her foe. Rhaenys Velaryon urged her forward, her focus razor-sharp as she prepared to strike when the moment called for it.
The skies above Dragonstone erupted into chaos as the dragons clashed. Caraxes dove headlong at the Cannibal, his elongated neck allowing him to snap at the larger dragon's wings. The Cannibal retaliated with an earth-shaking roar, twisting midair with a surprising burst of agility for his size. His talons raked across Caraxes's side, leaving deep gashes that dripped blood into the sea below. And steam started to arise from where the blood of the Dragons dripped indicating how hot the blood of a Dragon is.
Caraxes hissed in pain but retaliated immediately, his jaws latching onto the Cannibal's hind leg. His teeth sank into the aged scales, drawing blackened blood that sizzled in the air. The Cannibal roared, whipping his tail with enough force to send Caraxes spiraling briefly out of control.
Meleys took advantage of the Cannibal's distraction to attack. Her claws raked across the Cannibal's neck, and then she unleashed a torrent of fire that engulfed the Cannibal's head. The ancient dragon howled in rage and countered with his own green fire. The two streams of flame collided over Dragonstone, creating a brilliant light that could be seen by all. Meleys withdrew from the collision and started to fly upward obeying a command from Rhaenys as she could not withstand heated atmosphere from the collision of Dragonflames any more than few minutes she already had.
Caraxes recovered during the brief time Meleys engage with Cannibal, hurtling back into the fray with renewed ferocity. His bond with Daemon burned bright, filling him with a singular purpose: kill. The Cannibal who is just about to chase Meleys stopped the chase and turned to meet him abruptly, snapping his massive jaws and narrowly missing Caraxes's neck. The Blood Wyrm coiled around the Cannibal, his serpentine form allowing him to constrict the larger dragon momentarily.
But the Cannibal was no ordinary dragon. With a violent shake, he broke free, slamming Caraxes into fleeting Meleys mid-flight. The Red Queen shrieked, twisting to avoid further entanglement, her tail lashing out to strike the Cannibal's flank. Daemon cursed out loud to let Rhaenys know his displeasure.
Daemon clung to Caraxes with unrelenting determination, even as boiling dragon's blood is splattered across his armor. "We're not done yet!" he roared, his voice echoing in the chaos. Hearing his rider, Caraxes roared and steadied himself from the fall.
Meleys took advantage of the Cannibal's distraction to attack from behind. She aimed her claws at the Cannibal's exposed belly, causing him to roar in fury. The Cannibal tried to snap his jaw around Meleys, but she pulled up just in time, delivering a devastating slash that left deep gouges in the Cannibal's softer underbelly.
The Cannibal staggered in midair, his flight faltering as his wounds began to take their toll. But even weakened, he remained a formidable foe. With a final, desperate burst of strength, he surged toward Caraxes, determined to end the Blood Wyrm.
Caraxes met the Cannibal head-on, and they locked in a terrifying struggle of fangs and fire. Daemon urged his dragon forward, and Caraxes's claws tore into the Cannibal's wings, ripping through the membranes. The Cannibal tried desperately to catch Caraxes's serpentine neck, but Caraxes, with Daemon's help, avoided every attempt by the older dragon.
Meleys descended like a falling star, her talons sinking deep into the Cannibal's back. Her roar was a declaration of victory as she unleashed a final torrent of fire upon him. The Cannibal writhed, the flames he was just about to unleash on Caraxes sputtering as his body began to fail.
Caraxes delivered the killing blow for safety measure even though the light of life seemed to slowly dulling in the reptilian eyes of the Cannibal. The Blood Wyrm's jaws closed around the Cannibal's neck, and with a sickening crunch, he tore through scales and bone, severing the ancient dragon's throat. Black blood poured like a river, and the Cannibal let out one final, haunting cry before his massive body plummeted into the sea below. Caraxes spit the throat of the Cannibal also with Dragon down to the sea below.
The skies fell silent after the battle, save for the labored breathing of the victors. Caraxes hovered unsteadily, blood dripping from his wounds, while Meleys landed gracefully on the cliffs of Dragonstone. Even though they were both badly wounded, Caraxes let out a high-pitched roar of victory, which was followed by a roar from Meleys.
Daemon patted Caraxes's neck, murmuring words of gratitude and pride. Rhaenys approached on Meleys, her dragon's injuries far less severe but still evident.
From the keep of Dragonstone, Daeranyx observed the aftermath of the battle between Caraxes and Meleys against the Cannibal. The Cannibal's body plummeted into the sea below, and Daeranyx realized that he could not let so much magical ingredient go to waste.
Daeranyx POV
The fight between Dragons has only lasted a few minutes, but if someone asked both Dragon riders it seemed to stretched for hours. I have not recovered my magical energy which was spent on the magical barrier before. But nevertheless I have to do something to prevent the body of the Cannibal from sinking into the depths of the sea. Fortunately, the body is not far from shore. Since magic does not work well on Dragons, I will manipulate the water to push the body to shore.
I apparated to the rocks closest to the Cannibal's body, which was sinking fast. I quickly cast "Aguamenti Maxima" to create a huge amount of water, which I then manipulated into waves and tendrils to push the body to shore. I could feel my magical reserves draining rapidly, so I manipulated the waves with more magic to force the body quickly toward the land. Just as I was about to succeed, I found that I could no longer control the water I had conjured.
But I was fortunate that the body of the Cannibal washed ashore. Though I could not help but wonder why I could not control the water that I had conjured. I put those thoughts aside for now and focused on salvaging the Dragon's body for magical ingredients. I know several spells that I learned during my stay at Skagos that I can use to do this as I did not want another Dragon's body to go waste like Sheepstealer's.
