Legacy of Harry Potter

Chapter 166: Aftermath

November 1994

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Harry had no idea after how much time did, he woke up. After getting dressed and having a sumptuous meal, Harry arrived in his office.

He took up his seat and called for Winky. With a pop, she instantly arrived in the office.

"Harry Potter sir called Winky," she said.

"Yes," responded Harry. "Inform headmistress McGonagall and Madam Bones that I request their presence in my office."

Winky nodded and with another pop vanished to do her job.

Minutes later, Minerva was the first to enter Harry's office after a knock.

"Good morning, Harry," she greeted. Her expression was usual- serious and stoic.

"Good morning, madam McGonagall," Harry greeted back and gestured her to take a seat.

Minerva took her seat following which in few moments Amelia Bones also entered the office.

"Good morning, Lord Potter," she said with a cheerful smile.

"Good morning, madam Bones," Harry greeted back and told her to take seat.

"What is the situation outside?" Harry asked breaking the silence.

The two ladies glanced at each other and Amelia took a deep breath as she started to answer.

"Well… A lot of people are frightened at the happenings and the things they witnessed… even so from outside the situation seems to be pretty normal," she said. "But… a lot of undercurrents are moving in the depth."

Harry nodded and gestured her continue.

"Impact of Voldemort making a return and then being killed is no small matter… a lot of them are doubting if all this was true or if Voldemort has really been killed."

"But this is not the biggest issue… even if it is, it is not going to create a lot of impact as Voldemort is really dead and is not making another return," said Amelia as she looked towards Harry for confirmation.

Harry smiled, "He is dead. All his horcruxes have been destroyed."

Amelia visibly relaxed at this as she nodded.

"The bigger issue is the death eaters who have been caught," she continued. A frown appeared on her face.

"This time their number is much greater than the first war. All of them belong to pure blood families and few of them even are Lord of their respective houses."

"Even though it appears to calm… things are going to turn chaotic very soon."

Harry nodded as asked, "What is specific response of the ministry?"

Amelia shook her head, "There is no specific response. Cornelius Fudge is an idiot incapable of handling a situation like this."

"His most trusted adviser, Lucius Malfoy himself have been caught in the storm and the buffoon hardly knows what to do."

"I believe at a time like this, Albus Dumbledore would be the one who would pull the strings to his benefit," added Amelia.

"Maybe few people in the ministry might try to manipulate Fudge and reap some benefits from themselves."

Harry nodded in silence.

"Harry," Minerva intervened. "Even though I am no supporter of violence and massacre and I myself would have wanted the death eaters to be punished by legal means… you did not have the thought of sparing them. Even though Fudge and Dumbledore interfered, I doubt they would have been willing to start a physical war against if you had really insisted on killing them. Why the sudden change in decision?"

"There are two reasons for this," said Harry.

"Firstly, though, I really wanted to kill all of them… if I had chosen that option, I would in instant have been labelled as blood thirsty monster. Killing 50 60 people in one go is truly not a small deal… especially, when Voldemort tried to plant the seed of doubt few of them might be under the imperious curse."

He continued, "It is not as if they are going to be a problem for me. If they create any nuisance in future, I will deal as they come."

"Secondly," he said. "A lot of those death eaters, like Nott, Crabbe, Goyle, etc had their children watching from the stands either as a Hogwarts student or from the general audience."

"I did not want to create a band of revenge seeking children… the impact of witnessing their mother of father killed, considering, they were not in a condition to fight back would have been huge. It could be called murder in a cold blood. Thus, I decided to let the sold out justice system have another go for justice."

"I do not really care about their fate… they may get freed… all of them claim to be under imperious, I do not care. I only care about Peter Pettigrew and that Sirius is proved innocent of all the accusation against him."
