Light Devil Fruit in Tales of Demons and Gods

Chapter 6: 6. First Battle

-Glory City, Middle of the Night-

In the pitch-black forest beneath the southwestern wall of the Holy Orchid Institute's training ground, a patch of soil shifted slightly, revealing that something was underneath.

Moments later, Ye Xinghan emerged from the ground, brushing dirt off his clothes.

"Phew, it's really dark here," he muttered, surveying his surroundings. "It would be extremely dangerous if an ordinary person tried to sneak in. They wouldn't even notice if they were being hunted by beasts."

He extended his right palm, channeling energy into it. A soft light illuminated his surroundings, resembling the glow of a flashlight. This was a basic form of the Pika-Pika no Mi ability.

Ye Xinghan carefully adjusted the intensity of the light, keeping it dim enough to avoid startling any demon beasts nearby while conserving his energy. Though Logia-type Devil Fruits grant users complete control over their elements, Ye Xinghan knew they came with limitations. The power generated by the Devil Fruit was tied directly to the user's stamina—or in some cases, their life force.

Understanding these constraints, Ye Xinghan had wasted no time sneaking into the training ground. He wanted to test his current limits and practice techniques he'd learned from Earth.

After walking through the dense forest for about ten minutes, Ye Xinghan reached a wide, open plain. In the distance, he spotted a goat-like creature with glowing red eyes grazing beside a river. It appeared calm, unaware of the stranger observing it.

Ye Xinghan immediately recognized the creature—it was the Horned Sheep, a 1-star Bronze Rank demon beast introduced in both the manhua and the novel.

The Horned Sheep was known for its aggressive nature and territorial behavior. Any living being foolish enough to enter its territory uninvited would be relentlessly pursued. Its reaction speed was lightning-fast, and its strength rivaled that of two Bronze Rank fighters combined.

If Ye Xinghan still possessed the strength he had in the One Piece world, this creature would be no more than a minor nuisance—something he could obliterate with a single punch. But now, he dared not be careless. A single mistake could cost him dearly, possibly even a limb.

Slowly, Ye Xinghan unsheathed the sword he'd brought with him. It wasn't anything special, just a decent weapon he'd managed to find in a hurry. Still, he wasn't overly concerned. His extensive knowledge of swordsmanship would compensate for the blade's mediocrity.

He carefully shifted his weight, feeling the texture of the soil beneath his feet. He needed firm footing for what he was about to do. After finding a suitably hard patch of ground, he took a deep breath and steadied his stance.

"Soru!" he exclaimed, vanishing from his spot in a burst of speed.

As Ye Xinghan launched himself forward, the Horned Sheep noticed him. But before it could react, he had already sliced through its right thigh, blood spraying into the air.

"BAAAAH!"

Satisfied with his surprise attack, Ye Xinghan, still mid-air, kicked the sheep's body, propelling himself backward to create distance.

His goal had been achieved: he had limited the sheep's movement and confirmed that his modified version of Soru worked.

It wasn't the full version of Soru. Ye Xinghan had only applied its basic principle. By kicking the ground ten times in an instant, he combined this with the power of the Pika-Pika no Mi.

The Devil Fruit's energy helped him achieve the necessary speed while reducing the strain on his body.

Without this assistance, using such techniques with his current physical strength would likely result in fractured bones, as his body wasn't yet strong enough to handle the full burden of Rokushiki techniques.

"Phew. Its fur is tougher than I thought. Felt like slicing through wood," Ye Xinghan muttered, inwardly surprised. "If I hadn't adjusted my sword angle, I might've only scratched its skin."

The Horned Sheep was considered one of the weakest demon beasts in the series.

Yet, in terms of defense alone, this creature could wreak havoc on Earth if firearms didn't exist.

"Hehe, I wonder if its meat tastes like lamb," Ye Xinghan chuckled, drawing his sword again and stepping forward to finish the job.

The Horned Sheep, now limping from its severed tendon, seemed to sense the imminent threat to its life. Ye Xinghan suddenly noticed the energy around him flowing toward the sheep.

The beast's aura grew rapidly, its blood-red energy condensing into a visible field.

Moments later, the sheep entered Berserker Mode. It stood up as if the injury meant nothing, it ignored the wounds.

Ye Xinghan prepared to use Soru again to catch the beast off guard, but a sudden, intense sense of danger stopped him. Without any warning or stance, the sheep charged at him at a terrifying speed, closing the distance almost instantly.

"Huh, just in time. There's a move I've been wanting to try," Ye Xinghan said calmly, unbothered by the charging beast.

He brought his hands to his face, fingers spread toward his eyes, in a pose familiar to any veteran anime fan.

"Solar Flare!"

A blinding white light burst forth, stunning the sheep mid-charge and sending it off

course.

Ye Xinghan seized the moment, brandishing his sword. With one clean strike, he decapitated the beast, ending the battle with a confident and stylish pose.

"Not bad for a 'mob' beast," he remarked, nodding in approval. "It even had a Berserk Mode-maybe it's a variant or something."

He then began collecting the beast's valuable parts and carving its meat. After setting up a simple firepit, he divided the meat into several portions, each seasoned with different herbs and spices. This was an experiment to find the best combination for future use.

As he cooked, he muttered to himself, "Eating demon beast meat is supposedly very beneficial for the body—it's refined by spiritual energy and helps with cultivation.

That's what the original novel said.

"Maybe I can take down the Sage Emperor someday by eating his six deities one by one, if we go by this logic," he joked.

He laughed at the absurdity of his own thoughts. "Forget it. That was random. Now, let's celebrate a successful day!"
