Ch 37
Chapter 37: The Envoy
Three days later, an envoy from the big city appeared at the door of the transformed Lord’s mansion.
Ye Ze, who was in the midst of exchanging affection with the little snake sub-beast and feeling pleased with himself, sensed the arrival of the unfriendly envoy from the other city at the door, but it didn’t dampen his good mood at all.
To be honest, he was eager for these people to arrive quickly now, and he even wanted to send a carriage directly to pick them up.
Ye Ze smiled and patted the little snake sub-beast’s lower back, placing them from his lap onto the sofa beside him. He stood up.
“Ye Ze?” The tip of the little snake sub-beast’s tail swayed, still holding apple slices skewered on toothpicks in his hand, looking up with confusion.
“Guests are coming. Would you like to play with Grey and the others in the backyard for a while, Nuo Nuo?” Ye Ze looked at the questioning gaze from the little snake sub-beast and bent down to explain, “Once I deal with the big troublemaker, we can officially settle down here. You won’t have to be afraid anymore.”
Ye Ze soothingly pinched the soft cheek of the little snake sub-beast. “Of course, you’ll still sleep with me at night.”
“!” The tip of the little snake sub-beast’s tail straightened with a swish. He tucked his head down, too shy to continue looking at him. But he obediently nodded.
He wanted to sleep with Ye Ze.
Nuo Nuo liked it a lot.
To receive such a response.
It’s so cute, too cute!
It’s his!
Ye Ze vigorously rubbed the little snake sub-beast’s head, feeling elated to the point of soaring higher than the sky. After piling the snack table with treats until there was no space left, he almost hummed a tune all the way to the front hall.
Thank heavens, the bigshot who was intoxicated with tenderness still remembered that today they were receiving difficult enemies, opportunistic accusers.
Cang Jiao was eating dog food. When he saw Ye Ze’s instant change of expression, he was both nervous and relieved. In the sudden ups and downs of emotions, he broke out in a cold sweat.
Oh, right. This wasn’t the most heart-wrenching part.
The most heart-wrenching part was that, for Ye Ze, the other party might not be as difficult as they seemed, nor qualified to accuse them.
The dual difference in strength and lifestyle.
Innocent young beastman: Cang Ling felt the incomparable and realistic cruelty—the all-around mockery from the winner of life.
The envoy from the imperial power arrived at the Lord’s mansion, carrying an arrogant attitude.
In their view, these small-town beastmen were simply not worthy of their genuine attention. They just needed to hold their ground and demonstrate their strength to easily make the other party fear and comply with their demands.
Perhaps these beastmen indeed had some courage this time, daring to directly kill the Lord Sheng Ming.
But one must know, that was just a branch lineage of the Beast Emperor Sheng Hui. If it weren’t for the Lord’s achievements in the pharmaceutical business, providing a large amount of beast god stones to the Beast Emperor every year, they wouldn’t have left a trace in the eyes of the Beast Emperor.
The difference between a Lord and an Emperor. Unless one was a fool, they should understand the vast difference between them.
Thinking this way, the deputy envoy held his chin even higher.
And indeed, as he expected.
Before they could even speak, the beastmen who had taken over the Lord’s mansion voluntarily offered generous gifts. Tray after tray was brought to them by the maids, and even the two envoys, who had seen many rare items by following Beast Emperor Sheng Hui, were secretly astonished.
The greedy joy of the deputy envoy surged like a tsunami. He almost couldn’t wait to put these treasures into his pocket.
The main envoy weighed the energy behind these items. Then he raised his head, looking at Ye Ze who arrived late, with a pensive expression.
“How is it?” Ye Ze calmly took his seat on the high platform, smiling amiably. “Are you satisfied with the compensation?”
Compensation? What compensation?
The deputy envoy was stunned. It took him a while to realize that Ye Ze was referring to the “gifts” in front of them.
These items were indeed valuable, but they were far from enough to buy the life of someone who controlled half of the city’s economy and was a half-step from becoming a beast king-level powerhouse!
“You killed the bloodline of a Beast Emperor Sheng Hui,” which harmed the face of the imperial-level beastman, “do you think that these trivial things can solve everything?” The deputy envoy interrogated aggressively.
Unaware of the fact that just a few nights ago, even the imperial-level surveillance team had been defeated by Ye Ze. The deputy envoy’s arrogant self-confidence was blatantly oozing out.
This caused both Cang Jiao and Cang Ling to change expressions repeatedly, and the servants serving around them were trembling even more visibly.
“Hmm? Not enough?” Ye Ze raised an eyebrow, seeming genuinely surprised. He swung his legs casually, with an indifferent attitude.
“Are you two planning to leave your lives here and accompany that little master?” The chilling killing intent locked onto the two envoys in an instant, but Ye Ze’s tone remained gentle as he smiled, “Honestly, I welcome such loyal choices from both of you.”
Perhaps he could even get another set of more luxurious villas for free.
The deputy envoy’s face turned pale in an instant. He almost collapsed, his legs giving way, and he knelt on the ground.
The main envoy felt a chill down his spine, and his body hair stood on end in an instant. He pushed the deputy envoy away with a huge pressure, pretending to be angry for a few curses.
Then, in a second, he turned into a smiling face and apologized to Ye Ze on the high platform, “Tak is young and impulsive, making you laugh.”
As he spoke, the main envoy reached for the storage bracelet on his wrist, took out a wooden box inset with gems, and opened it. “In fact, after Beast Emperor Sheng Hui learned of what happened to Sheng Ming, he was equally angry. So, he specially prepared a surprise gift for you, as well as for the brave Cang Jiao and Cang Ling.”
“Hmm.” Ye Ze chuckled lightly, his gaze playful.
The deputy envoy felt resentful and angry at Ye Ze’s demeanor, as if he were watching a monkey show. But constrained by Ye Ze’s terrifying strength and the anger displayed by the main envoy, the deputy envoy could only roar with injustice in his heart, while outwardly enduring the humiliation.
The main envoy remained calm. Holding the wooden box, he respectfully presented the gift, “Just a small token of appreciation, please accept it.”
Ye Ze waved his hand casually to the side.
A servant stepped forward and took the gemstone wooden box.
His expression remained natural from start to finish. It seemed as if the box contained not some rare treasure, but just an ordinary decorative item.
They had long been shocked to the point of numbness in just a few days.
Only the envoys, who entered the mansion during the day and had not delved deep enough, would think that the mansion was as ordinary as ever. They were unaware that compared to the magical artifacts arranged by Ye Ze, the thousand-year-old wood-carved ornament in the box was indeed as ordinary as it could be.
After observing repeatedly, the main envoy was convinced that the calmness of these people came from the heart, rather than being forced to disguise themselves under orders. With a heavy heart, he completely sank down.
Before their arrival, Emperor Sheng Hui had already speculated about the troublesome nature of this prickly character.
Naturally, there were two strategies to deal with it.
However, the main envoy never imagined that this troublesome character would be so troublesome!
Cang Jiao and Cang Ling watched the changes in the envoy’s attitude with amazement.
These people truly spoke differently depending on the person they faced.
The so-called supreme imperial level and the subordinate who depended on their master. In comparison, there was actually no difference between them and ordinary beastmen.
At this moment, cracks appeared in the hierarchical concept that Cang Jiao and Cang Ling had tightly held in their hearts. Until one day, it would completely shatter, establishing a completely new system.
Ye Ze glanced at the brothers with a pensive look, a barely perceptible smile flashing in his eyes.
“The two envoys have come from afar. As the host, it wouldn’t be proper not to entertain you properly. For example, if you two stay a few more days in the mansion, I will send someone to escort you and your apology gifts when you leave.”
Listening to Ye Ze’s unquestionable arrangement, the main envoy’s mouth twitched. He hadn’t expected Ye Ze to be even bolder than he had imagined: spouting a bunch of grandiose speeches, but actually intending to forcibly confine them. Perhaps there were even more conspiracies planned for their farewell.
For the main envoy and the deputy envoy, three days felt like an eternity.
Ye Ze indeed treated them well, as he had promised. However, the more they saw, the more they realized the danger posed by Ye Ze, and they regretted their initial attempts to test him.
So much so that as time went on, they not only didn’t relax, but became increasingly tense, staying awake all night in fear. They were afraid that if they closed their eyes at night, they might never have the chance to open them again.
Upon receiving reports from the surveillance, Ye Ze, holding the little snake sub-beast in his arms, leaned his head against the snake sub-beast’s shoulder and sucked on it, his finger pointing to the fruit slices on the table like a spoiled dog, “Nuo Nuo, I want to eat that.”
Then, while enjoying the delicious fruits and admiring the face of the little snake sub-beast, which was sweeter and more delicious than a red apple, he became addicted beyond control.
Completely attached to the little snake sub-beast, he demonstrated with his strength what it meant to be “too busy to bother” with others.
Finally, on the fourth day, the terrifying demon lord took pity on them and finally agreed to let them go!
The two envoys touched their still intact heads, almost crying with joy.
Accompanied by the guards of the Mansion, they walked out of the city gate with joy on their faces. Behind them were boxes of goods, which became the talk of the town for a while.
At the same time, relevant information was meticulously compiled into important intelligence and delivered to the city lord and the president of the chamber of commerce.
Sure enough.
Although rising rapidly, Ye Ze’s power was far from being able to directly challenge major forces.
The two old foxes gleamed with triumphant light in their eyes.
As the only acquaintance under Ye Ze’s command who had both strength and talent, Cang Jiao was entrusted by Ye Ze to escort the two envoys out of the city gate. Looking at the large items behind them, he couldn’t help but feel puzzled by Ye Ze’s special arrangement.
You could say Ye Ze wanted to mend his relationship with Emperor Sheng Hui by sending a bunch of difficult-to-transport items, but you could also say he was deliberately provoking them, considering the value of these items.
Although they were certainly far less valuable than the items in Ye Ze’s mansion.
Cang Jiao returned to the mansion, puzzled, and then received another invitation from Ye Ze.
This time, it was directly related to them: invitations to a banquet sent to the city lord and the top brass of the chamber of commerce.
Cang Jiao looked at Ye Ze’s meaningful smile and vaguely felt like he had grasped something. However, before he could catch a glimpse of it, the fleeting moment of insight vanished without a trace.
But regardless, Cang Jiao sensed danger from Ye Ze’s expression.
Just like when he first saw Lord Sheng Ming and the envoys.
Cang Jiao suddenly shivered. He mourned silently for three seconds for his unlucky former boss and former immediate superior who would be in trouble next.
