Chapter 7: Uneasy Allies
The survivors, while still unsure about Kael, were forced to acknowledge the reality of their situation. The sanctuary was becoming a target, and their resources were limited. If what Kael said about the hive mind controlling the monsters was true, their fight was far from over.
The following day, Xiang Yue called a meeting in the central hall. The survivors gathered, each of them still holding some degree of mistrust toward Kael. He stood at the back of the room, his arms folded, an unreadable expression on his face.
"I've decided we need to take a more proactive approach," Xiang Yue began. "The monsters are not just random attacks. They're organized. And they're growing stronger. Kael believes this is the result of the hive mind."
"I've seen it firsthand," Kael added, speaking up for the first time in the meeting. "It's a collective consciousness controlling the beasts. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to stop it."
Liu Yan stepped forward. "So, what's your plan? We're not just going to wait here and hope it goes away, are we?"
"No," Xiang Yue said firmly. "We need to destroy the source of the hive mind. If we can take it down, the monsters will scatter."
Zhang Wei raised an eyebrow. "And how do we find this source?"
"I have a few ideas," Kael said, his voice calm but confident. "The hive mind isn't just controlling the monsters. It's drawing power from specific locations. If we can locate those places, we can strike at the heart of the hive."
"And how do we trust you?" Zhang Wei muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing.
"I'm not asking for blind trust," Kael replied. "I'm giving you the facts. If you want to survive, you'll have to listen. The hive mind is not something you can take lightly."
Xiang Yue raised her hand, silencing the room. "Enough. We don't have time for distrust. The plan is simple—Kael will guide us to the closest hive node, and we'll destroy it. We move out at first light."
There was a moment of silence, but the survivors nodded. They had no other choice. The safety of the sanctuary depended on it.
