Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Automated Etherization Device

Chapter 49: Automated Etherization Device

For now, I created two Akitsu Max items. One is a Damascus Knife for me, and the other is a Saber Bear’s Fang for Ulrika. I had initially considered using the fang as material for a defensive sword or turning it into a talisman, but I ended up going the path of a necklace. There’s no time to waste on processing. Just equipping it grants the Flight Fly skill, so I had to make it.

Moreover, while weapons and armor provide bonuses to attack and defense, to be honest, Dragonflies are basic monsters, common as materials, and akin to common drops in login gachas. It takes MP and effort to create them, but the materials aren’t that valuable. Besides, there are other materials, not as much as Dragonflies, but still abundant. Now that I have the Akitsu Max for Flight Fly, I want to create a Max-enchanted item with better attributes.

We named the process of layering enchantments on materials and then applying enchantments “concentrated enchantment” or “Max enchantment” for now. Since provisional names often become official, I wanted a more clever name, but the adrenaline is pumping so much that such details don’t matter. We spared no sleep and transformed a large amount of materials into ether.

However, we eventually grew tired of etherization. It must be quite a lot for even patient earth attribute me to get bored. Ulrika already wore a face of weariness. But driven solely by curiosity about yet-unseen powerful Max items, she barely managed to face the desk. That’s when I thought: Can’t we do this with magical tools?

And thus, the Automatic Etherization Device was born.

It’s called a device, but the mechanism is simple. The appearance is somewhat like a billiards table. We attached a board to the table, creating edges, and placed pockets in eight positions vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. Wires made of mithril alloy extended from the pockets, passed through a circuit engraved with the character “small” of the sacred scripture, and spread throughout the entire table. From there, we sent magic elements to the material placed on the table, and the resulting ether, melted, accumulated in one direction from the slightly tilted table.

In the pockets were partly used magic stones, abundant in my inventory. During dungeon conquests, we wanted to avoid skill misfires due to running out of magic power. Especially as the difficulty level increased, a moment’s delay could be fatal. The continuous supply of magic elements supported the playstyle of overpowering enemies with firepower. Therefore, the so-called magic stone pack, wrapped in a net woven with magic threads and exchanged without hesitation when the remaining magic elements were below half, was essential.

And the partly used magic stones, accumulating in the inventory without a clear purpose, the result of my penny-pinching tendencies. We put them into the pockets of this fake billiards table. This way, the remaining magic elements could be consumed without waste. What a sustainable development goal. Even if there were occasional magic power shortages, no one would die here.

Furthermore, we collected the ether from the billiards table and received it with a lower desk we installed below. We attached boards to the edges here as well, creating something like a goldfish scooping tank. We lined up the materials we wanted to enchant here. The flowing ether from above naturally soaked into them.

“This is the Automatic Etherization Device, also known as Pythagora.”

“Well, that name won’t do. The spirits are making a fuss.”

We found an easy way out. We installed the device at my house and only occasionally checked and replaced materials and magic stones. Hooray for magical tools.

The season had fully entered winter. Thanks to the rapid development of the brewing business, the Kabaneru family appointed Professor Kabaneru as the head. The support from the residents was enthusiastic, and the promotion in the capital went well. A grand wedding with Carol is planned for spring.

“Distillation was Alexi-kun’s idea…”

Professor Kabaneru looked apologetic, but I said, “I just remembered something I casually heard. It’s all thanks to you, Professor Kabaneru, for putting it on track.”

Yes, I don’t want to stand out. I shove all the achievements onto others.

“A man without desires. Even more regrettable. How about this girl?”

“Father! It’s unsophisticated to interfere with someone’s love life! Now, Alexi-san, let’s have a sip.”

I don’t drink. Everyone in this world starts enjoying alcohol early on, but I’ll wait until I’m twenty. Nevertheless, Professor Kabaneru, no matter the route, seems to have a hard time. Don’t worry about it.
