Chapter 31: Lord of Winterfell

(AN: ya know someone pointed out that joy already told Sansa and the group about people thinking she were being kidnapped and they were 100% correct 😅😅😅 tbh I write this story mostly late at night or early morning but don't worry I'll pull a plot point that barely makes sense out my ass, Also check out my new Fic may be a bit different than this one but you might like it)

(Location: White Harbour)

(Time: Morning)

Right now Jon and Sansa were in an alleyway held close together trying to avoid the prying eyes of people.

"Did they really think I kidnapped you!" Jon whisper shouts to Sansa who has a a bit of a helpless smile on her face.

"What…" Jon says to Sansa as he notices the look she has on her face.

"Now Jon I don't want you to get angry" Sansa says though it doesn't improve Jon's mood nor change his non impressed expression.

"Well, Joy did mention that people had thought you'd kidnapped me" Sansa says with a shy smile with both her hands clenching each other.

"What!" Jon shouts before getting his voice back in control.

"You knew! Why didn't you say anything!" Jon whisper shouted at Sansa who winced.

"A lot was going on at the time and I mostly just thought it was Joy being Joy" Sansa replies trying to explain herself.

"I really am going to be executed by my uncle" Jon says to himself as he seemingly looks off into the distance.

"You'll be fine Jon we'll explain everything once we get back, okay?" Sansa says to Jon kissing him on the cheek, though her kisses had been very close to the corner of his mouth lately.

'Heeeyy Jon, thought you might want to know there's a squad of guards heading towards the Harbour, might want to get Sansa to cover her hair it's a big giveaway' Shiera says to Jon from high up in the sky.

"Shit, Shiera says there is a squad of men coming this way, looks like we don't have time to get horses we will have to walk to Winterfell" Jon says to Sansa.

Over a year ago Sansa probably would've complained about having to walk but spending so much time in the wild and in dangerous places, a walk in the north seemed quite lovely. Jon grabs onto Sansas hand and they hug the buildings avoiding people where they can, Sansa puts the hood on her cloak up to hide her red hair while Jon does the same. They both look very suspicious but it would be better someone think they are scoundrels than recognise them.

They managed to sneak out of the city hiding below a merchants wagon, avoiding a conflict with the guards. Breathing a sigh of relief they both laugh a little at the situation they find themselves in.

"At least I don't have to fight anymore ancient horrors here, just the usual wolves and bandits" Jon says out loud to Sansa who chuckles.

It was nice for Sansa to spend time with Jon, she'd not had much time alone with him for a long time especially now that Rhaenys was going to have a baby. Sansa was more intelligent than people gave her credit for, meaning that if people are going to fuck right next to her she'll notice and she'll also notice when banging noises come from a room and Jon and Rhaenys are the only ones gone, like In Zamettar.

She didn't know how to feel at first, she was glad that Jon and Rhaenys were so happy together even if she was raised believing incest was wrong, but that wasn't the main reason she felt so conflicted. She was in love with Jon, totally and completely, finding out they were not siblings but cousins was the best day of her life, she could be with Jon without the guilt that they were doing something wrong.

But she waited too long and Rhaenys stole his heart first, she didn't want to hurt anyone so she kept quiet and played the oblivious girl that they expected from her even if it hurt.

How could she not fall in love with Jon, Arya used to make fun of her for all her stories of gallant knights riding on horses saving maidens from evil villains. Jon trekked through hell in order to find Sansa and even fought a massive stone giant to keep her safe, and then not too long after he fought another toad giant and died for them. Needless to say Sansa was hopelessly in love with Jon which is why it felt so painful being back close to Winterfell, she knew she wouldn't see Jon after this, which is why she didn't say anything after Jon had come back even when she felt Joy and Rhaenys both pleasure him, though she probably would've died of embarrassment joining them.

Sansa looped her arm through Jon's, he just gave her a gentle smile as they walked down the road heading north west towards Winterfell. It hurt Sansas heart that she wouldn't be able to see that smile after long.

"Are you okay Sansa" Jon asks with concern as he pulls her a bit closer to himself, she melts into his side and revels in his warmth.

"I'm fine" she says with a small smile, her blue eyes looking up into his grey ones.

They continue walking for the better part of the day, they don't pass many people which isn't too surprising as the north is sparsely populated, if anything this was one of the busier roads not including the kingsroad as it led towards a trading hub. This allows Shiera to fly next to them or even walk often making an inappropriate comment, for a while she only called Jon the bastard slaver and only responded to the name slave, needless to say that annoyed Jon

Finally finding a place off the road to make camp Jon brings together some wood and with a snap of his fingers he summons up the remnants of his power creating a spark of fire and lighting the fire, before taking a seat next to Sansa.

She cuddles into his arm as she eats an apple form out of her bag. Jon grabbing one of his own.

"Jon…" Sansa asks quietly.

"Yes?" Jon replies.

"Can we sleep next to each other tonight" She asks in a low voice to which Jon smiles.

"Of course Sansa" he says hugging her closer to himself.

"They each take off their packs and remove their bedrolls placing them next to each other. Sansa places her head on Jon's chest, bringing up her shapely legs near his groin area making him stir a bit.

"Jon…"

Jon hears Sansa call his name again. Be lifts his hand up and starts rubbing her head.

"Yes Sansa" Jon replies.

"I know you've always felt partially responsible for us getting stranded" Sansa says shocking Jon, though she wasn't wrong, Jon always held onto the guilt that if he didn't act so rashly and childish that night he wouldn't of ran onto the first boat he found. Before Jon can say anything she continues.

"I just wanted to let you know that even though some times were scary or maybe even terrifying, spending time with you and the others has been the best time in my life" Sansa says to join causing him to get a little teary.

"If I had to do it all again knowing what I'd face, I'd make the same choice" Sansa says to him, Jon had always felt he condemned Sansa to a hellish place but hearing how she loved being with him lifted a weight from Jon's heart that he never knew he had.

"Thank you Sansa" Jon simply says to her kissing her on the head.

"Goodnight Jon" Sansa says before drifting off

"Goodnight Sansa" Jon replies as he starts to drift off to sleep as well.

'Goodnight Slaver' Shiera says to Jon as she is laying down on the other side of the fire.

Jon just groans before heading off to sleep.

(Winter town)

The journey to Winterfell was peaceful for the trio a stark contrast to how to usually was, no dire lion-lizards, no bloody flux, no basilisks, no wyverns or stone giants or ancient gods, just the occasional wolf that they scared away with a rock.

Getting into wintertown was nostalgic, it felt like a lifetime since they had been there, the crisp cold air, the light snow falling around them, the duo felt more at home in a place like this. Though Shiera being a dragon didn't like the cold weather.

'I don't like this place it's too cold' Shiera complains

'Go find a cave to nap inside, we'll be here a week at most' Jon replies to her.

'Fine but if you get in trouble I won't be helping you' Shiera says to Jon.

'Probably be in less trouble if you're not involved' Jon thinks to himself.

'Hey!' She shouts offended at such a statement.

'Sorry wasn't meant for you to hear that' Jon thinks before focusing on where they were.

"Sansa I think it's best I don't show up" Jon whispers to her causing her to stop.

"Why Jon! Don't you want to see everyone" Sansa whispers loudly in shock.

"I do I really do, but I don't trust your mother or my uncle for that matter, the fact he allowed the whole of Westeros to think I kidnapped you doesn't sit well with me" Jon says to Sansa.

"It might be better for you to go explain things first and then let me know who I can trust" Jon says to Sansa who nods in understanding.

"And make sure not to mention Arthur or Rhaenys" Jon continues to Sansa who keeps nodding though her eyes are low indicating she knows this and isn't stupid.

"I'll stay in the local inn, let me know how it goes two days from now, I doubt they'll let you out of their sight any sooner than that" Jon concludes and then gives Sansa a hug and kiss.

(Winterfell)

Sansa felt nervous, she knew there was no reason to be nervous this was her family but nevertheless she felt trepidation in her heart, mostly related to Jon, she had no reason not to believe that it would all be fine and the mess with Jon would all be cleared up.

'Why do I have such a bad feeling then' Sansa says to herself as she approaches the gates of the keep. Four guards she didn't recognise were guarding the gate, which surprised her since two was the usual amount that would guard the main gate to the keep during the day.

"Halt!" One of the guards says as they place their spears slightly forward. Stopping Sansa in her tracks.

"By order of the Lord of Winterfell none may enter the keep without a written order" The guard states in a loud voice.

"I'm Sansa Stark this is my home please stand aside" Sansa states in a clear regal manner as she puts down her hood revealing her hair and face.

"Pffft, I'm sure you are" One of the guards chuckles as the other guards join him in laughing.

"I think you must be the third Sansa Stark we've had this month" the guard chuckled out.

"The second one was my favourite, once she realised it was over I paid her a few stags to suck on my balls" One of the four say to the other.

"What about you eh? You're a pretty lass you could earn a few stags sucking on my massive cock" He continues getting a laugh out of the men.

Sansa was having trouble controlling her rage, she was very close to drawing her dagger and stabbing the cunt in his eyeball but tried to control herself, taking a deep breath.

"S-s-sansa?" A voice stutters out from behind the guards in the courtyard of the keep. Dressed in his sparring outfit Robb Stark looked the same as he always did though he seemed to be attempting to grow a beard resulting in some small fuzz on his face.

"Robb" Sansa says with a teary eyed smile.

Robb drops his sparring sword and rushes towards her pushing the guards out of the way causing them to drop on the floor. Robb grabs Sansa in a fierce hug afraid she'd disappear again if he didn't hold her tight enough.

"Where have you been! I missed you so much! We tried to find you for so long!" Robb shouts out many things at once in rapid succession, he was overwhelmed with emotion at seeing his younger sister again that he couldn't think coherently.

"Robb! You're suffocating me" Sansa squeaks out tapping him on the shoulder.

"Gods Im sorry Sansa!"

Robb says in alarm as he lets go of her.

"Come let's go inside the rest of the family need to know you're here!" Robb says excitedly as he pulls her by the hand into the keep, on the way in Sansa can see the look of fear on the guards face at the realisation of what they just said to the Lords daughter, Sansa smirks evilly at them before disappearing into the keep.

"Listen Sansa… I just want to warn you that things have changed a bit since you've been gone" Robb warns as they walk together, Robb was leading them to the Great Hall in hopes of catching the family before lunch ending.

"What do you mean" Sansa asks curiously.

"The family has changed, Bran and Rickon have stayed much the same but the rest have taken your disappearance badly" Robb replies to her.

"How badly…" Sansa asks with growing concern.

"Arya for the past year has been trying to run away, she hates us, she said she'd rather die trying to find Jon than to stay here another second" Robb quotes.

"Why does she hate you!" Sansa gasps

"Because we wanted to bring Jon to justice for taking you" Robb replied.

"He didn't kidnap me!" Sansa shouted out a lot more aggressively than she was planning to.

"Truly!" Robb says loudly, the relief he felt at his brother not being responsible for taking his sister immense though it didn't help much as now he felt a crushing guilt at not standing up to his family for his brother like Arya did.

"I'm relieved to hear such news, I hope mother and father will as well" Robb says with slight concern.

"What is it Robb" Sansa says grabbing his arm.

"Listen Sansa, mother and father are not doing well" Robb says in an uneasy tone.

"Father barely speaks to anyone anymore, in the last 3 months I've probably had two conversations with him and they were mostly orders" Robb states

"And mother is worse, she hasn't spoken to anyone in months she hasn't lay in fathers chamber since you left, she only sends ravens towards her family in Riverrun" Robb continues.

"For a while she would only talk about the things that would happen to Jon should he ever be caught, it's gotten so bad that Bran and Rickon are afraid of her" Robb finishes making Sansa stand there in shock.

'I can't believe it's all gone so wrong' Sansa thinks to herself. She understood that her family would be upset but it seems instead of worry making them grieve they spent this time angry and hateful at Jon.

'Hopefully they'll be better once they see I'm okay' Sansa thinks to herself.

(Great Hall)

Lord Stark was sitting there in silence with his family, he had managed to get Catelyn out of her room, she looked increasingly worse over the last few months. Catelyn always disliked Jon but ever since he kidnapped Sansa it's turned into pure hatred, some of which was shifted into Ned since he was the one who brought Jon home. Ned can only just sigh and try to comfort his wife.

The doors of the Great Hall swung open and Robb came in with a smile on his face, the first one Ned had seen in a long time, but what shocked him more was the person behind him, his breath caught in his throat at he saw his firstborn daughter walkthrough the doors of the Great Hall.

He hoped he wasn't dreaming, he finally saw an end the the nightmare their family had been placed into, he grabs Cats arm and she flinched at the contact but looks up at him, he then points at the duo walking towards them and she looks even more shocked than Ned did.

Not caring for propriety at all Catelyn jumped over the able lifting herself over it before charging at Sansa, once she got to her she wrapped her in a fierce hug as tears streamed down her eyes.

"MY DARLING GIRL!!!" She shrieks out as it seems all the pain of the past year comes rushing out.

"PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE HERE! THIS ISNT A DREAM" Catelyn says as she blubbers, her face soaked in tears.

Ned shortly joined the hug wrapping them both tightly, followed by Bran and Rickon and then Robb.

"I'm home" Sansa says with tear filled eyes.

(Winter Town)

Jon was currently on his way to the far end of town where the Travellers Inn was, it was one usually used by travelling merchants as it was slightly out of town it allowed them space for their goods, that also meant that not many people from the town used it and he had less chance of being recognised.

Though he did have to duck into an alleyway as a guard patrol was coming down the road and he looked very suspicious. What surprised him was that he knocked into someone.

"Watch it you oaf!" He heard a voice behind him shout quietly.

Looking down he saw someone he hadn't seen in over a year, she hadn't grown any taller but her hair was longer it reached down to her shoulders and under the boys clothes she was wearing her body looked fuller.

"Arya!" Jon says in surprise, his voice manages to catch her off guard as she looks at him closely in the dark alley way though it is hard since he had his hood on.

"Jon…" she says in a small hopeful tone. Jon takes his hood down and smiles at her, but the first thing Arya does is start hitting him.

"How… Could… You leave!!!" She shouts out at him between punches. But then the jumps on him wrapping her legs around him and holding him tight tears coming out of her eyes.

"Are you really back…" Arya says to which Jon nods with a teary smile of his own.

"Come we can talk at the inn but put your hood up I don't want people recognising you" Jon says to her getting a nod back.

(The Inn)

After getting a room Jon and Arya sit down together at a table provided by the inn for meals, Arya was giddy that Jon had come back.

"It's good to see you again Arya" Jon says holding on her hand, she hadn't let go of his since they got here.

"I knew tried to come find you…" Arya says quietly.

"I couldn't stand it here… everything thinking you'd kidnapped Sansa" Arya says wiping her eyes.

"Never saying at every dinner how she'd have you executed while father said nothing. So I stopped joining them" Arya says, starting to cry again, Jon pulls her from her seat and into

His lap and holds her.

"I'm glad you believed in me, you know I'd never hurt family" Jon whispers to Arya comforting her.

They just sat there for a while not saying anything Arya in the crook of his neck hugging him tightly hoping he won't disappear. After a while she lifted her head up and wiped her face.

"Want to know something that might cheer you up" Jon says with a smile.

"What" Arya replies.

"I could tell you about all the adventures I had, but you have to promise to keep it a secret okay?" Jon says to which Arya nods her head enthusiastically.

Jon then proceeds to tell her about everything that happened since he left White Harbour, from the forest of darkness to the giant king ape and to the shadow city of Yeen, saving Sansa and Rhaneys from a stone giant, training with Arthur dayne and learning magic. Needless to say Arya was shocked if her jaw reaching the flaw wasn't any indication, he also told her of his real parentage and his real name.

"Can I ride your dragon!" Arya says predictably as Jon laughs.

"When she's big enough" Jon simply says with a smile.

"Does that mean I should call you Daeron now" Arya teased to which Jon laughed.

"No it doesn't feel right yet, I'm still attached to Jon" He says with a smile.

Jon is enjoying the time he spends with his cousin but he sighs as he has to tell her the bad news.

"Arya, I'm not staying" Jon says dropping the bomb.

"But you only just got back!" Arya says teary eyed.

"I know but I don't belong here, this isn't my home, for most of my life Lady Stark has been trying to kick me out of it" Jon says, Arya can't deny it she just wishes she could've done something but her father never listened.

"Can I come?" Arya whispers out holding her brown shirt tightly.

"Arya your family are here, you're a Stark of Winterfell" Jon says to her.

"Your sister just returned don't you want to see her" Jon says to Arya.

"I do… but I'd rather be Arya Snow if it meant I'd get to stay with you" She says looking into Jon's eyes. Jon signs.

"It could cause problems if you come they might think you've been kidnapped" Jon says to her sternly.

"I'll leave a note" she says cheekily.

After a quick think Jon sighs, he couldn't deny Arya anything even when he lived here before.

"Fine but you'll go back to the castle tonight and spend time with your sister" Jon says to her in a serious Voice.

"Yes!!! Thank you Jon!" She says hugging him ignoring his tone. She then kisses him on the cheek and leaves the room in a hurry heading back to the castle.

"Ugh I need to sleep" Jon says to himself as he gets undressed and gets into bed.

(Next day)

Sansa felt weird waking up in Winterfell, it felt wrong not waking up with Jon or Rhaenys nearby, she was happy that she could see her family again but it felt weird waking up in her own bed.

What shocked her more was that her mother was sitting in a chair opposite her bed, she looked to be embroidering something.

"Mother?" Sansa says slowly.

"Ah darling you're awake, I thought I'd let you sleep in yesterday was a very emotional time after all" Catelyn says with a smile.

"How long have you been in here?" Sansa asks slightly concerned.

"I slept here silly, I didn't want to let you out of my sight for even a moment" Catelyn says casually though it is a bit concerning to Sansa.

"I've got loads of things planned for us today, I managed to find a new dancing instructor for you, the septa will be giving you a refresher on stitching and dress making and then we will have a nice lunch with your favourites" Catelyn explains, once this may have made Sansa jump for joy but it seemed terribly dull now.

"A bit of unpleasantness this morning, the septa will be checking your purity" Catelyn says as if it's no problem.

"What…" Sansa says in a worried voice.

"Well after that bastard took you away he could've done anything to you while you slept" Catelyn states.

"He didn't kidnap me! I told you all yesterday what happened" Sansa shouted.

"You're too sweet for your own good Sansa, he wouldn't of protected you unless he got something out of it, he probably used your body repeatedly after drugging you, didn't you say you were unconscious for weeks on the boat" Catelyn states matter of factly.

"Mother! Jon wouldn't do that please stop talking of him this way" Sansa says seriously.

"Very well I'm just glad that you're home, if you say he didn't I'll believe you" Catelyn says with a smile that didn't fully reach her face.

"Come now, we have lot to do today" Catelyn says helping Sansa out of bed.

(6 days later)

Sansa hadn't had the chance to get away from her family though finding out Arya had seen Jon let her send a message to him through her telling him that he was right, even if they believed that Jon didn't kidnap her apart from her siblings the rest didn't seem to care what surprised her the most as father didn't even ask about Jon.

She knew Jon would be leaving tonight and it hurt, she thought she would be happy being back home after so long but… she wasn't.

Robb sees Sansa walking alone and sides up to her looping his arm through hers.

"What seems to be the problem my lady" he says in an exaggerated voice making Sansa smile.

"It's nothing…" Sansa says but she can't keep the sad look from her face.

"Sansa, I've been watching you this whole week, you may be able to hide it from mother and father but not me" Robb says as he leads them to a seat.

Sitting next to Robb she sighs, she hopes she can trust him.

"I miss hunting in the forests, I miss sailing on the seas, I miss waking up every morning and not knowing what new adventure I would experience" Sansa says wistfully as she looks up at the sky.

"For so long I thought coming home was what I wanted but now that I'm here i can't wait to leave again" she continues

"I miss Jon and I miss my friends and it hurts so much thinking that I'm not with them right now" Sansa says honestly to Robb as a tear drops down her cheek.

"Then why are you still here" Robb says to her with a small smile, Sansa looks up at him shocked at his reply.

"I love you Sansa and I love Jon, I hate to think how weak I was that I believed my mother for a while but I won't be weak anymore, if you're happy with Jon I know he'll keep you safe" Robb says with regret in his voice.

"So go and live the life where everyday is a new adventure" Robb says with a smile.

"But I won't be able to get away mother is constantly with me, she only stepped away to grab a picnic from the kitchens" Sansa says in a panic.

"Don't worry I'll deal with her later on, pack lightly and get out of here" Robb says to her giving her a hug before leaving.

(Night, The Crypts)

Jon debates whether coming here was a good idea but in the end he couldn't resist, he was now standing in front of Lyanna Starks statue in the crypts of Winterfell. The statue really didn't do his mother justice, but seeing her again still brought warm feelings to him.

"Jon" He heard someone say behind him, a voice he hadn't heard in a long time.

"Uncle" Jon simply says to the man as he walks next to Jon.

"How'd you find out" Ned said neutrally as he looked at the statue of Lyanna however he didn't feel the same feelings Jon felt.

"Does it matter?" Jon says casually.

"I suppose not" Ned replies.

"Were you ever going to tell me" Jon asks as he looks to the man he believed to be his father for nearly his whole life, he looked a lot older than Jon remembered, his eyes looked tired and his shoulders sagged.

"I wasn't" He replies in the same neutral tone.

"Why… why keep this from me, why plan to send me off to the ends of the world with only rapists and murders for companionship" Jon asks desperately seeking answers.

Ned sighs and he sits on the base of Lyanna's statue looking at Jon, Jon didn't think he had ever seen a more tired man.

"I loved my sister Jon but every time I look at her I can't help but feel hate in my heart and when I look at you I can't help but see the deaths of thousands of people, all for you, all for Lyanna" Ned says in a tired voice.

"I was eight name days old when I left my family, it took eleven years till I got to see them again for what I now know as the last time at Harrenhal" he continues.

"Because of Lyanna I lose my family, my father was burned alive and my brother died trying to save him" Ned says as his eyes begin to water.

"She didn't love Robert she loved my father, you can't fault her for that!" Jon shouts at him.

"I can! Do you think she is the only one who is married to someone they do not like, I was going to marry my love, but when the war started I did my duty and I married Catelyn Tully, regardless of how I felt about her!" Ned snaps back.

"You say these words but you don't believe them, you wanted to be bound to Robert by blood, you didn't care how much he dishonoured your sister by drinking and whoring" Jon says to Ned.

"It doesn't matter now, after I found your mother in the tower of joy she made me promise to protect you and I accepted" He said

"She made me promise something else as well, she wanted me to send you to your grandmother, she was in Pentos as she was pregnant during the war so she wanted me to send you so they could raise you" Ned continued.

"You didn't" Jon states

"I didn't" Ned nods.

"You're a mistake Jon, something that should've never happened, a stronger man than me would've thrown you into the sea and let it take you, and now you've grown into a man, the last child of Rhaegar Targaryen and the heir to the throne" Ned continues.

"For everyone's sakes you should just spend your days at the wall, there has been too much death in such a short time" Ned says as his shoulders slump even lower.

"How can you say such things, do you think this is peace, even in Essos people hear the tales of the Drunk King Robert, a man too busy fucking whores and having feasts to concern himself with ruling" Jon says in shock at his uncles attitude.

"At least they won't die by the thousands" Ned simply says.

"No it'll be by the millions when there isn't enough to feed the people" Jon spits back. He sighs as he realises that he needs to leave, Arya should be waiting for him, before he leaves however he wants to know one thing.

"Will you tell me my real name" Jon asks.

"No" Ned replies bluntly.

"Why" Jon asks already knowing the answer.

"You don't need it, you are Jon snow the bastard of Winterfell and that is what you'll always be, because being anything else would bring suffering to the realm" Ned replies.

"I thought you'd say that" Jon says sadly as he goes to leave heading towards the steps but he turns back to his uncle and looks him in the eyes, Ned looks and notices his eyes are glowing violet now.

"I am Daeron Targaryen third of his name and heir to The Iron Throne, I have been to the end of the known world and seen behind it, and I have fought with gods and monsters and i fear no men" Daeron says in a regal voice.

"And if I choose to then the Baratheon dynasty will come crashing down and there isn't a thing you or Robert Baratheon can do about it" Daeron finishes as he walks away. Ned gets up to try and follow him but as Daeron leaves he freezes passageway shut forming a wall of ice that would take a few days to melt.

The only thing left in the crypt was Eddard Stark....and Jon snow
