Chapter 27: Chapter 27 Accident 1
With tears in her eyes, she wanted to explain, shaking her head frantically, "No! It's not like that!"
She was genuinely afraid Dong Miaomiao would get mad; she idolized him and loved their relationship fervently, as if it were a pilgrimage.
But she was overly concerned. Dong Miaomiao showed no signs of anger, only looking at him with a smile containing an indescribable degree of indulgence. Yes, indulgence. Faced with a rival in love confessing to her boyfriend, Dong Miaomiao's eyes were surprisingly full of indulgence, and then she sighed with a smile, "Ah, another little sister."
Another one...
It seemed this wasn't the first time something like this had happened.
His expression was one of helpless appeasement, "Miaomiao…"
Then, without looking at her again, he took Dong Miaomiao's hand, "Let's go."
They left, and she stood there, letting out a sigh of relief; the tears finally fell, but slowly, a smile also crept onto her face.
How wonderful!
They made such a lovely couple! She rated Dong Miaomiao even higher now; such magnanimity and full trust in her boyfriend made this girl truly worthy of the deity in her heart!
And just like that, the incident passed. The number of girls who liked him was vast; she was just an insignificant one among them. Neither he nor Dong Miaomiao would remember her, and life would go on.
She would still follow him and Dong Miaomiao, knowing that he gave up the opportunity to study abroad for a joint PhD and started training in a secondary specialty at the affiliated hospital, while Dong Miaomiao started grad school at their university.
She thought he made that sacrifice for Dong Miaomiao.
In her fifth year of university, she smoothly secured a chance to study abroad herself and heard that Dong Miaomiao truly had met his parents; someone saw the Ning Family's car driving Dong Miaomiao back to campus.
Regardless, everything was progressing in the best possible direction. She once again thought that her golden, shining deity would soon walk with his goddess toward marital bliss, while she, crossing oceans, would continue her studies.
She kept up her habit of morning runs.
Ever since he started his specialty, he no longer appeared on the track for runs, leaving her with a feeling of emptiness, as if she'd experienced a breakup. After all, no one knew that, over the years, their morning runs had been their special kind of date. Without hope, without fantasy, just his presence made her feel fulfilled.
But, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and she understood that. So she ran even more diligently, always the first to reach the track before dawn because she herself didn't have many days left to run at the track filled with all her young romantic memories.
On that early summer dawn, as usual, she arrived at the track.
The track was quiet, the stars still fading from the sky. She thought she was the first again, but unexpectedly, amidst the silence, the sound of crying broke through, followed by a familiar voice, "Go back, you've been sitting here all night!"
It was him!
His voice was too familiar! It was branded on her heart!
She followed the sound and saw two figures standing opposite each other in the murky light. One was the familiar him; the one crying was Dong Miaomiao.
Had they had another argument?
Yet, he said nothing more and turned to leave.
"Don't go!" Dong Miaomiao cried out loudly, then suddenly chased after him, hugging him tightly from behind, sobbing, "Don't go! Can't we just forget all this? Let's leave this place, shall we? To the ends of the earth, to the grasslands, to the deserts, to anywhere no one knows us! We don't have to have children! We don't need anything! I just want you! I just want to be with you!"
