Chapter 2: Business Trip.
Aaron met Liyah Myers during his second year in Yale University. They were the two top students in their department of Business Administration. They used to study together. Liyah Myers was the first girl to courageously walk up to face Aaron Saint and confess her feelings to Aaron Saint and he accepted her. Back then, a lot of girls hit on him and when he found he didn't hate or find Liyah Myers unpleasant, he agreed and they began a relationship.
In their entire two years together as lovers, Aaron Saint did everything he needed to do as a boyfriend. There was even one time, Liyah's period came and the cramps was so severe that she had to call him in the middle of the night to send her to the hospital. He had been so scared then that he promised to treat her even better. He bought her everything she asked for and never once reprimanded her for the way she spent his money. Aaron Saint only knew that he loved Liyah Myers with all his heart and refused to see through her scheme. Off course, the Liyah Myers back then was so innocent that he always thought she could never hurt a fly, but he was wrong. He shouldn't have trusted her.
All the while she was with him, it was to gain access to his cousin Josh Saint, whom she claimed to really love after he caught them together that night.
The following day, Liyah Myers had come to his apartment to tell him that she was with him to get access to Josh Saint as Josh Saint was the one she truly loved. Her betrayal had hurt him so much then that he practically shut himself to women except the girl in ward 003 whom he only currently knew as August Maijune from her name card which was in her bag at the time of the accident. After almost killing someone because of Josh Saint and Liyah Myers Aaron Saint had wanted nothing to do with them. He didn't bother with them and minded his business but, that was not the same for the other two people who betrayed him. Especially, his cousin Josh Saint.
Josh Saint had always seen Aaron Saint as a threat. Snatching everything Aaron Saint had, has always been what Josh Saint was good at. Josh Saint had always had a rather low self esteem and a great feeling of insecurity which steamed from his obsession of getting everything done his way. Things must be done his way or else the opposition was an enemy.
Now that those two were together, Aaron Saint couldn't seem to think of a much better word to express his feelings but the sentence 'a match made in heaven'.
One was a jealous man who thought life was unfair to him and the other was a woman who betrayed him because of the latter.
Smiling to himself, his mind wandered back to the girl in ward 003. The fact was, he knew nothing about the girl he had become over familiar with other than her name. She had been in coma after the surgery and he had searched almost everywhere just to find out who she was and where her family were. It was almost like she didn't exist in any part of the country or maybe her identity was securely hidden by whoever sent her to him that night.
She had run into his car and he had run over her five years ago. Five years had passed and yet he could not locate or find anything about her. She was a mystery that he couldn't wait to solve but that could only happen if she ever woke up.
Aaron lazily swapped his phone screen and a picture of him and the girl as the wallpaper greeted him. He looked longingly at the girl he had suddenly become attached to through the years of reading stories and chatting casually to. The picture was taken impulsively one day after he went to the hospital after work. He had been so tired and stressed out that day but as soon as he saw the girl's mouth curved as if she were smiling, he wanted to save that image of her forever and decided to take a closed up photo of himself leaning closer to the girl. It was so beautiful that he used it as his screen saver then.
The doctor had recommended that he spent time reading and speaking to her two years after the incident. At first, it was weird to him. Reading a story or talking to a person who obviously couldn't hear or see you was something he never thought was possible. He had seen some of these type of situations on TV and even heard of it before but, when it came down to him, he found it ridiculous but yet still went ahead to do it anyway.
Now, closing from work and going to the hospital to tell her about his day and work was somewhat making him happy. He found himself telling her about his work, his challenges, his likes and dislikes and literally everything about himself. Aaron Saint didn't feel tired talking to the unconscious girl about anything and it seem more naturally now than before. Plus, he enjoyed doing it for her and he also found healing through it.
After a long day, the only place he could relax and let his guard down was at the ward of this girl and he enjoyed every time he spent with her. Thinking about it now, Aaron Saint knew he was going to miss her during the business trip this time.
He was going to miss seeing her face. He was going to miss reading to her. He was going to miss telling her about his day and the kind of things he did. Aaron Saint smiled and thought that he really needed to finish this impromptu issue that had cropped out and return to her side sooner. Not for the girl but for his own sake. He couldn't afford to miss her presence for so long anymore. She was a major fixture in his life now. A permanent fixture and he knew he would do anything to keep her safe by his side. Unknowingly, Aaron Saint had claimed ownership of the young girl.
"August Maijune" Aaron Saint murmured the name before coming back to his senses and realised his secretary was speaking to him.
"Morris, what did you say? I didn't hear you just now" Aaron Saint asked.
"Boss, Miss Natalie Hanson called you this afternoon. She apologized for the sudden change in venue and time and asked that you give her a call" Morris said to Aaron Saint as he drove towards the airport.
"I should call her immediately before I forget" Aaron Saint said and took the phone. He dialled an unknown number and the call connected after two beeps.
Aaron Saint heard a cheerful voice on the line.
"Well, look who decided to call me after so long? Aaron Saint, don't tell me I am only good for doing business with?" Natalie Hanson said over the phone.
"You're not just good for doing business but you are also a schemer. Tell me, why did you and your company suddenly decided to change the venue and time for the auction?" Aaron Saint asked over the phone.
"Oops, looks like someone called to get my neck? I'm sorry. I don't know what your cousin did but he succeeded in manipulating the manager of the venue to host it somewhere else. Brian was angry and almost sued them but I intercepted and told him to let him off since you have a plan yourself anyway" the woman Aaron Saint referred to as Natalie Hanson said apologetically.
"How are the kids doing?" Aaron Saint asked as their voices entered the phone's speaker.
"Stop messing around Cherry, mom will be late" Natalie warned one of the twins before saying to Aaron Saint "Aaron Saint, make sure your wife doesn't give birth to twins or else you will have double the trouble in the house. Brian left for a meeting and I am alone with the kids. I still have to get myself and them ready for the auction tonight. You, let's talk more when we meet. These kids are a handful" Natalie Hanson said over the phone and Aaron Saint could hear the chaos her twins must have been creating behind the scenes.
"Okay, see you there then" Aaron Saint hung up and chuckled.
Aaron Saint placed the phone on the seat next to him and his mood lightened. He was naturally a peace loving person but he wasn't someone to be stepped on all over and over again.
Josh Saint wanted to fight with him to the end, then it couldn't be helped. He was going to make show Josh Saint gets to watch a good show. His money been wasted in one night.
