Chapter 241: (Kris story) 1
The sound of subtle moaning could be heard as a couple made out on the sofa of their hall. The man was on top of the woman showering her with kisses that almost drowned her out but she quickly stopped him, as if coming back to her senses.
''Ray, let's stop it here before we go further''
''Come on, Kris, just this once. Let's go through with it''
''No!!'' she managed to pushed him away from her body and sat up straightening her clothes. ''I thought we were over this? No going further till we are married''
''We are getting married in a two months' time. Why are you acting so stuck-up?'' he sighed, feeling frustrated.
''What did you just say? I am acting stuck-up? Ray, we spoke about this even before we started planning the wedding. You said I should be the one to remind you every time you are going further. I am just reminding you of the promise we made to each other and you are calling me stuck-up? Maybe I should just go and give you some space to cool down'' Kristine got up from the sofa and picked her bag.
''Do you even really love me?'' he asked her making her stop in her strides. She turned to face him with an exasperated sigh.
''Ray, let's not do this. You know very well how much I love you. We've been together for three years already. If I didn't love you, I wouldn't be with you. You know I don't waste my time on things that don't matter to me. You matter to me a lot''
''Just this once, Kris'' he stood up and attempted to pull her back into his laps and she resisted, pushing him away in the end.
''I said no. My no, is no, not a no-yes but a no-no. We are not doing this'' her voice rose beyond normal as she tried to resist him.
''Then, let's not see each other again. Let's break up''
''What?'' Kristine sighed and stared at the man she had been in love with and in a relationship for the past three years. She couldn't believe such words could come out of his mouth. ''Ray, you are joking, right?''
''What? Is not like you are a virgin, so what's the big deal in having sex before marriage? I am Ray Gomez, the man many women want a piece of but each time I try to go further with you, you just keep reminding me of some stupid vows we took. I've tried to stay chaste to this relationship for three years, thinking that you will loosen up along the way but you just keep abiding by the rules. Kris, be frank with me. You are only with me because of my fame, you don't really care about me, right? Each time I cheat on you and apologise, you just take me back. aren't you doing all that because you don't want to lose the title of been my fiancée?'' Ray said arrogantly as he stared at the flustered face of Kristine.
''You know; you could just tell me you weren't interested in getting married to me in the first place. You don't have to be so cruel with your words, Ray. All the three years that we've been together. I've seen you in your happiest moments, your worse moments, your not so good and good moments. You've cheated on me not once, not twice but do you know why I still believed that things would work out between us? I had faith in you. I loved you but it seems even that wasn't enough. But, I don't believe that I wasted my time in loving you. This… you and everything I felt, didn't go to waste. You know why? Because sooner or later, you will realise I was the big deal. Break off the marriage which is just two months away? Fine, at least it's better than being left at the altar. I will personally call the minister and tell him the marriage is over before it even started. Remember this though, you didn't break up with me, I am the one leaving with dignity, with my head held high''
''What?'' Ray suddenly felt a chill hearing her words. He didn't know whether he was hallucinating or not but the woman before him was suddenly a different person. But, she has always being unpredictable in her actions. But, even with that, she would still always forgive him. He had just spouted those words thinking she would give in but it seems she was consistent in one thing, not letting him have his way with her.
''I hope you remember this day and the times we shared together and realise that you let the real thing go while pursuing nothing''
Kristine walked to the porch and changed out of the slippers into her sneakers and ran out of the house.
Watching her ran out of the villa from the intercom, Ray suddenly felt a sense of loss but it was just a small feeling that passed away quickly. His eyes were filled with complicated emotions as he really didn't know what he felt at that moment.
Stanford Street was a place far from the road so she had to walk quite a mill before she could get a taxi.
Kristine stopped outside the villa and leaned against a tree, trying to calm herself down as the reality of the situation now go to her. She had taken all the willpower she could gather to say those words, but even she herself wasn't confident in them. What did she have? She was just a small time waitress who lived in a rented apartment with her friends. She had left her family, not wanting to take part in their fight for recognition, family assets and every other thing that their grandfather owned.
Kristine looked around her and suddenly felt that everything was blur. Her energy drained out of her and her steps became heavy even as she tried to stand strong. Was her low sugar deficiency going to act up right now? She thought and opened her bag, searching through it to find something.
A car pulled over at a distance and a man ran towards her as her limps gave her away. He was just in time to hold her, preventing her from falling to the cold ground. He furrowed his brows and frowned.
''Hey, Miss, wake up'' the man called out and after not hearing a response, he cussed and carried her towards his car.
Kristine vaguely saw the man's face before her eyes gave way and she fainted.
Next day.
Kristine opened her eyes to see a nurse by her side, adjusting the IV drip connected to her hand. She lifted her hand and the nurse turned to her, ''you are awake?''
''What am I doing in the hospital? What happened to me?''
''You fainted and was brought in my Dr. Mensah. Miss, do you have a low sugar deficiency?'' the nurse asked.
''Yes''
''You are lucky that a doctor found you early or else it would have been a disaster. Can you call your guardian to come and handle the discharge papers? You will be fit to go home after this drip''
''Please, who brought me here?''
''Dr. Mensah. He is a new doctor transferred to this hospital''
''I see. Please, can I meet him? I want to thank him''
''You don't have to worry about that. Dr. Mensah said you don't need to do that. he only said you should focus on your health. He left as soon as your heartbeat returned to normal. He has gone to the capital''
''I see, thank you''
''You are welcome, Miss. Remember to call your guardian to come and sign the discharge papers''
''Sure, I will do that'' Kristine picked her bag from the table and removed her call.
….
A group of three girls rushed in the hospital wearing different outfits. One wore a blue blouse and a pencil skirt, she had a small clutch bag by her side, anyone seeing her would know she was an office worker, perhaps a secretary because she looked well kept. This was Chloe Sandas.
The other one was in a waitress uniform, clearing showing she worked in a restaurant. This was Jenny Coleman.
The last one looked even more rugged as she wore a black construction jacket over her blue jeans top and down and a pair of black booths. Anyone seeing her would know she was a construction worker. This was Brenda Agyeman, a construction foreman.
Meeting at the entrance, they stopped and stared at each other.
''Are you all coming from the work place?'' Chloe asked, panting for breath.
''Yes'' Brenda answered.
''I received a call from darling, let's go inside first and find out what happened'' Jenny said and they walked in together. even with their varied dressing, they still commanded attention as the way they walked seemed totally different from the outfits. They clearly walked with confidence.
