Luisa and the Witcher

Chapter 5: The witchers' medallion

"That you take the duty of personally training this set of recruits," Nuka proposed knowing how much it irks Zeke to teach or train new recruits.

"Deal!" Zeke agreed and walked away shocking Nuka with his immediate agreement.

That was how she found herself here.

Ignoring the stares of the boys, she slumped back to her cot, her long blonde hair spread across the small pillow she was given and she heaved a sigh.

The double door leading to the room was opened and a man walked in. He was a witcher.

"Okay, everybody get up...all of you get to the washing room, now!" he ordered and everyone began to troop out of the room. Luisa got up as well.

"C'mon boys...And girl," the witcher stuttered a little when he saw the elf girl.

"Hmm...you must be the new female recruit everyone is talking about, what's your name?" he asked.

"Luisa," she replied.

"Hmm...Keep your eyes sharp." He advised and Luisa nodded. She walked out of the room and headed for the wash room like the others.

"Each of you pick up the items on a table," the witcher instructed.

There were several tables lined up in front of the washing room. Luisa walked up to a table and picked up the items on it. The items contained tools for washing up and some clothes, the same clothes Zeke gave to her yesterday.

Her mind began to recall what transpired yesterday.

The two sided door opened and Zeke came out. "Let's go shortie, you are enrolled," he announced and Luisa smiled.

He had been inside for more than a hour, she couldn't hear what they were saying, even with her elf hearing abilities, it was like there was a sound concealing spell surrounding the room.

"You need to wash up first," he said.

They began walking. As they did everybody's eyes were on Luisa and it made her a little uncomfortable. They got to a building and entered.

The first section of the building was a reception and they were welcomed by an ordinary human man, who looked to be in his late twenties. He was the receptionist.

"Good night Senior witcher Zeke," the man greeted.

"Good night to you, Kain," Zeke replied without even looking at the man.

They continued to walk down, passing a lot of doors until they got to a particular two sided door that had a poster on it that read 'New recruits 8-12years'.

Zeke opened the door and they walked in, it was another passage of its own. They only stopped walking when they got to another two sided door. Luisa has noticed that there were a lot of two sided doors in this place.

"Pick up the items on table number two," Zeke told.

There were tables lined up in front of what seems like the washing room. She did as he instructed.

"Go in and wash up," he added and she went in. There were several closed doors in the place. She opened the first door and went in. When she was done she put on the clothes, it was boys clothes.

A long sleeve v-neck shirt, trousers and a pair of leather sandals that were actually her size, there was something like a belt around the abdomen level used to tighten the shirt to the trousers even though it actually fits her perfectly.

She came out with the washing tools and opened the two sided door of the washing room to find Zeke still waiting for her outside.

"Not looking bad shortie," he complimented her and it would have been a compliment if he didn't had sarcasm in his tone.

"I don't feel comfortable," she complained.

"Were you expecting a ball gown?" he asked mockingly and Luisa glared at him.

"(Smirks)...Don't look at me like that, you don't know the kind of witcher you are standing before," he responded.

"It's not really about the clothes. I saw a couple of doors in there. Will...Will I bath in this same wash room with the boys?" she asked.

"Of course, were you expecting a private suite?" he asked.

"Even after I enter puberty?" she asked. "Nobody forced you to join, so you better not complain and comply with the rules and regulations of this place," he added.

"(Bows her head a little)...Okay. Where should I place these?" She asked referring to the washing tools and her previous clothes.

"Put them back on the table number two. Then walk to the end, you'll see a two sided door like this one, open it and look for an empty cot, that's yours...Go to bed," Zeke answered.

Luisa placed the items back but she didn't move to look for the said door.

"What? Go on now," Zeke nudged his head to the direction he told her.

"But I'm hungry," she replied.

"You'll get food tomorrow, now go," he responded and walked away.

Luisa frowned, the last meal she had was before her village was attacked and her stomach was already playing rhythms.

"So mean..." she muttered before walking to the end.

When she got to the door, she opened it and entered. There was a total of ten cots and nine were already occupied by some boys who were already fast asleep.

The cots were five in opposite directions. Quietly she walked to the vacant one at the end of the line at her right hand side. She laid quietly on the cot for some while before she finally dozed off.

...

After they finished washing up, they were directed to a small dining room by the witcher that was serving as their guide, where they had a mild almost tasteless meal in silence.

After the meal, they were all assembled at a yard where they would be briefed on some things relating to their training.

They were arranged according to their heights and Luisa was at the front of one of the lines which was five in a line. Then Zeke and some other two witchers walked in.

"Okay, future witchers. I'm Zeke, a senior witcher...Some of you already know or have heard of me. I will be the one tutoring and guiding your set of recruits.

"Your training will begin tomorrow and I'm here to give you guys some briefing on what you ought to expect. There are four stages in your training.

"The first stage will be focused on your intellectuals whereby you will be taught the basic knowledge you ought to know about witchery, including histories, spells, various concerts in witchery and several others.

"Then you'll move to the next stage, whereby we'll train you in combat and help you to become a good swordsman...(His eyes trained on Luisa)...and swordswoman.

"Then you'll move to the next stage whereby your mental capability and survival instincts will be tested, when you get to that stage you know how.

"The final stage is the trial of the grasses. Most of you must have heard of it, those of you that haven't, you'll get to the longer your stay here.

"Once you survive this trial you'll be stronger, your reflexes will improve, you'll have all the capabilities and abilities of a witcher and you will reach the final stage of becoming a witcher and I will be here to guide you through all these stages," Zeke paused after minutes of elaboration.

"No one said witchery was an easy journey, your own journey begins here and as for those of you that wish you weren't here...In here will give you purpose, out there you are nothing but in here we give you a chance to be respected and honored and if you don't appreciate it, then all these are wasted on you. Dismissed!" Zeke concluded and walked out.

The next day, they were taken to a room that looked like a library. It wasn't big but it was large enough. Just like yesterday, they stood in front of Zeke.

"Your training begins today and like I said, this stage of your training will be focused on building your knowledge and intellectuals about everything you need to know about witchery.

"This is a library set in place for new recruits and today we'll dwell on the abilities, capabilities and various artifacts of a witcher. This section of the library contains all you need to know about it, take a book and study it.

"It will continue like this until you all get to know about all the basic and secondary things of what you are getting into and if you have any questions just relay it to me," Zeke explained.

"This is the most boring part of the training," he complained to his fellow witchers who were two in number.

"And I won't tolerate any form of laziness or lousiness, failure to comply will lead to severe punishment and you will be remain in this stage while your peers are moving to the next," he added.

Just like he ordered, everyone scattered around to pick up a book. Luisa picked a particular book that was titled 'The witchers' medallion'.

"The witchers' medallion, said to indicate if a monster was near by, all witchers have it," the elf boy told catching Luisa's attention, her jade green eyes met his, he was about the same age as her.

"How did you know about it?" she asked him.
