Lurking in the Shadows; Creature of the Night

Chapter 30: A glimpse of the past

Sebastian took both of the glasses and handed one over to Benjamin. Benjamin took the glass and they both hit their glasses together gently giving off a chiming sound. "We should go hunting together soon. It's been a while we did that" Sebastian said before raising the glass to his lips that was adorned with a subtle smile. "Of course sire" Benjamin said as he also took a sip of the blood from the glass.

A nostalgic feeling enveloped Benjamin as his mind trailed back to how Sebastian turned him. Benjamin wasn't a creature of the night from the start, he wasn't a vampire at the beginning. Until he met Sebastian. He remembered how he was shaking and the cold icy hands of death were beginning to take hold of him. Bit by bit he felt life leaving him when young Sebastian angrily said to him "Don't you dare die on me". A sad smile appeared on Benjamin's cold lips as he stared at his dear friend. Benjamin was about to take his last breath when Sebastian bit himself and made Benjamin drink his blood. As Benjamin felt the blood slowly move from his mouth down to his throat and then his bowels, he felt slightly better but that wasn't the whole process. "I'm going to do it Benny" came young Sebastian's voice. Benjamin was too weak to keep his eyes open so young Sebastian thought his friend was already giving himself to death, being nervous, sad and angry at the same time, young Sebastian decided to end Benjamin's life quickly by twisting his neck in ways the human neck wasn't supposed to contort. Staring at his dead friend, Sebastian hoped deeply that this method would work for it was the same method in which he was turned. After some suffocating seconds of anticipation, young Benjamin gasped and his eyes shot open. He had never felt more alive!.

He could hear sharply, smell sharply. Every of his senses were heightened and he felt like his chest was going to burst because of the overwhelming energy. Relieved his friend was back to life and free from the cold hands of death, young Sebastian used his little fist to punch young Benjamin on the face resulting to a questioning gaze from the latter. "Don't you try that again. What if the woman's method didn't work? I would have killed myself and met you in heaven or hell and kill you there also for dying on me on earth". Young Benjamin had a little smile on his face, this was how his friend was. They were both young in age but what came out of the mouth of Sebastian and his behavior wasn't something one would expect a child to say or do. He expressed himself in strange ways for he was a strange child. Instead of a hug, he punched him but young Benjamin didn't mind. He pulled young Sebastian into a hug and said in his little voice "Thank you for saving me Seb". Young Sebastian released a weird little smile as his beautiful silver eyes beamed with joy. His friend didn't die, the vampire method worked!. They both stood up from the ground and held each other's hand as they wandered off.

Remembering that day, Benjamin smiled and muttered "The good old days". The words of Benjamin came to Sebastian's ear and a smile covered his lips as he patted Benjamin on the shoulder without saying a word. Benjamin knew the king hated remembering most part of his past. The one good thing that occured at that time was meeting Benjamin. Since then, the duo have been inseparable.

"Milord. I just recalled something. Now, Irvington is dead, what are going to do about Irvington's friends? The ones Irvington gave the women to. Also, what are we going to do about the people of Irvington who had obtained dark magic?" Benjamin was wondering what the king's next move would be. Sebastian was sipping the blood from the glass when Benjamin's question reached his ears and he immediately moved the glass away from his mouth and answered "Ohh..i didn't forget about them. I have a special punishment for them. As for the villagers who have obtained dark magic...let's leave that to Father Roberts and the priests". With that, Sebastian gulped the remains from the glass and placed it on the table before walking towards his chair to sit in silence. Benjamin finished the content in his own glass before saying "okay sire".
