Chapter 96: Chapter 96
Lip took Ethel around the school and visited many laboratories.
"Ethel, do you like college?"
"I do! The library, concert hall, and garden pond are really great!"
"So, do you want to study here?"
"I think so! But…"
"But what?"
"Lip, I have no formal education."
"Ethel, how did you learn to read and write?"
"Taught by the priests and nuns in the church."
"So if there was a way for you to go to school, would you go?"
"I would."
"Then leave it to me!"
"Thank you, Lip! That's so kind of you!" Ethel jumped directly into Lip's arms and hugged him tightly.
Looking at Ethel's cute look, Lip of course wouldn't miss it.
About an hour and a half later, Lip and Ethel returned to Hearst's office.
Hearst asked the female assistant to go to the self-service lounge area for some desserts on behalf of Ethel.
He would have to talk to Lip about business next.
"Hi, Lip! The big gift you gave me is so on point!"
"How? Have you put your passion for a graduate female assistant to use?"
"Rachel, she is so sexy!" Hearst's face showed a burst of pride as a man. "She really likes the music playlist you made for me."
"He was impressed with the urban music on my phone! Deep enough to let me savor the seafood abalone she cooked."
"Did she cook for you?"
"We exchanged each other's cooking skills, and I also discovered that the trick to eating abalone is to chew it slowly and in alphabetical order. This way, she doesn't feel that you like her cooking, and you can fully enjoy the intoxication of self-satisfaction."
"If you're really good enough, she can't wait to let you taste the main course before you reach Z! My best record is M."
Lip silently gave a thumbs up, not to admire Hearst's cooking skills, but to admire his mastery of language.
"Oh, Colonel Kirk McNairy of the Department of Defense will be downstairs soon, and we have to go meet the donor," Hearst said after glancing at his watch.
Lip followed Hearst hurriedly downstairs and came to an old Ford sedan.
A tall man wearing an American beret and a green military uniform stepped out of the passenger seat.
"Hi, gentlemen!" Colonel Kirk was the first to say hello.
"Hello, Colonel." Hearst stepped forward and shook hands with Kirk warmly. "Colonel, this is Philip Gallagher. I mentioned to you last time that he is really outstanding."
"Hey, hello, I'm interested in your police locator." Kirk and Lip shook hands.
"Hello, Colonel. If you're really interested, we can chat further."
"Great, let's go to the professor's office!"
The three of them walked upstairs together.
After arriving at the office, the three of them sat down on the sofa in the reception room of the outer hall.
"Colonel, you should talk to Lip first! I'm going to get the relevant information on the prototype design of the micro-unmanned reconnaissance robot and the model design of the unmanned micro-aircraft."
"OK."
Kirk nodded in greeting.
"Lip, besides police locators, what have you been researching lately?"
"I'm working on a device that reads credit card numbers on autonomous kiosks in vehicles."
"Are you using a magnetic stripe reader?"
"No, the card number is no longer displayed on the credit card. It is all solved through the wireless network."
"How about you come work on my project?"
"Micro unmanned reconnaissance robot or unmanned micro aerial vehicle?"
"The choice is yours, one of two, or doubles!"
"Is there any money to be made?"
"I gave Hearst a large amount of funding. It would be easy for you to earn two or three years of tuition."
"Sounds awesome! Can I think about it?"
"Is there anything more important than this?"
"Take care of your family."
Kirk nodded appreciatively.
"Nice guy! Hearst said you were from the South Side?"
"Yeah, a South Side native!"
"My grandfather was also from the South Side. He later joined the army and had bad luck, so our family moved to New York."
"Hahaha, hello, fellow!"
Lip took the initiative to reach out and shook Kirk's hand again, but this time the meaning was more profound.
"How about it? Come join me and Hearst!"
"I really want to come, but I've been busy looking for information for my brother to go to West Point recently."
"West Point? Lip, you're lucky as hell, I graduated from there, and a lot of my classmates and teachers taught there."
Kirk smiled and said: "Let's do this! If you agree to join my project, I will give you an internal recommendation!"
"A generous gift crab! Don't you even know what my brother can recommend?"
"Just a recommendation! Whether you can get into West Point depends on your brother himself, right?"
"Yes, then I will join you if I'm sensible!"
"Today's harvest is not small!"
Kirk and Lip high-fived each other.
"Did I miss something?" Hearst took a thick stack of information and sat next to Lip.
"Lip has agreed to join our project!" Kirk smiled with joy.
"Wow, Colonel, you're so awesome. I tried to persuade this stubborn boy countless times, but he didn't agree. I didn't expect you to take him down as soon as we met."
Hearst gave a thumbs up.
Lip also looked at Hearst with a smile.
I have to say, this old fox is really good at flattering!
"Colonel, may I venture to ask, what is the purpose of the prototype design of the micro-unmanned reconnaissance robot and the model design of the unmanned micro-aircraft studied in the project?"
"In the middle of this year, the Ministry of National Defense and the Pentagon will further send more troops to Afghanistan. On the one hand, they hope to end this damn chaos in the Middle East as soon as possible. On the other hand, the military does not want to cut off its own major source of wealth so soon," Kirk explained patiently. "At the same time, the terrorists in Afghanistan now do not have the main purpose of killing American soldiers. They now especially like to kill and maim American soldiers."
"Why is this?"
"The death pension for American soldiers may only be more than 100,000 US dollars, but the combined disability pension and monthly subsidy cost the government more than 1 million US dollars for a soldier from returning to the United States to being buried."
"So the Ministry of National Defense and the military combined their efforts to replace real people with machines."
"It seems that the labor costs in the arms business are too high!" Lip made a small joke.
Suddenly, Kirk's cell phone rang, but he did not choose to answer it, instead hanging up.
"Professor, Lip, we'll talk next time. I've got to leave first if I have something to do." Kirk, with the resolute style of a soldier, said, after speaking, he took the materials prepared by Hearst and left the office.
Hearst took Lip to the door.
After confirming that Kirk was gone, Hearst, taking Lip mysteriously to the inner hall of the office, said:
"Lip, I need a favor from you!"
"What are you busy with?"
"Before telling you what help I need, I think I should tell you the risks so that you can choose."
"Professor, tell me!"
"One of my protégés, Mike, ran to rob a bank in order to save his half-brother Lincoln and was imprisoned in Fox River Prison, a Level 1 prison in Chicago."
Hearst slowly explained, "In order to get in touch with Mike, I used all my connections and energy, but without exception, they all failed."
"I can now clearly feel that I seem to be close to a huge creature. It wants to eat Mike and Lincoln and the secrets behind them!"
Lip suddenly fell into thought:
A well-known professor at the University of Chicago can't even contact him. The forces behind this are really terrifying!
Wait, Lip remembered that there was something wrong with the pictures that the system prompted him. Is there Mike and Fox River Prison in "Prison Break"?
Just recalling those clues about how to get rich and powerful, Lip felt his heart beat faster.
Lip decided to get rich and take a chance to see if he could ride a bicycle and turn it into a motorcycle.
"Professor, I'm still hesitating whether to help! But you can first share with me the information you know here, and I'll analyze it first!"
"As for whether I can help or not, I will give you an answer as soon as possible."
"I understand that you have to weigh the pros and cons. Let's do this. I will send the information to your email one after another."
"OK."
After chatting with Hearst for a while, Lip took Ethel and left the University of Chicago and drove home.
