Married to my nemesis

Chapter 24: Silver mask

"What information have you gotten?" The woman with a silver mask questioned seated on a chair in front of a desk.

Taking a piece of cigarette stick, she took a lighter and then lit it.

As she smoked from the cigarette, she released the air just to be handed the documents of Enim's discharge and admitting papers on her table.

She smiled as she stretched out to take the files.

"It seems these people are good at creating scenes without me making an effort to create an issue. Maybe a visit to that place would be alright. Don't you think so, I also want to see how fun it would be," she said with a quick chuckle dropping the cigarette on the desk, and then she removed her silver mask taking a look at the hospital report.

"I want to see what Vixen will do when there's so much opposition around him," she calmly said.

"I'll go to bed now," Phoebe calmly stated about to reach for the stairs but she paused once again hearing the sound of the door opening.

Both she and her mother turned around to see who it was, the night fell like a shadow with the gushing cold wind that rushed into the house, the cold aura, the cloudy atmosphere, and the thundering of the lightning.

Phoebe squinched her eyes to see who it was and then her mother stood up from her seat also wondering the same as Phoebe as the thundering of the lightning continued, the person entered the house and then Phoebe had an expression in awe recognizing who it was.

"You?" Her mother questioned in surprise.

"What is she doing here?" Phoebe murmured in displeasure under her breath and then she replaced it with a smile, and so did her mother.

"Aunty Lia?" Phoebe said as she walked toward the woman who stayed still at the door waiting to be welcomed.

"Lia? What are you doing here?" Phoebe's mother questioned in surprise as she hugged her sister.

"You didn't tell me you were coming."

"How would I have told you? I wanted to surprise you all and after hearing the disheartening news about Prudence, I thought it's best I came to visit. I feel like crying right now, I can't believe she's gone," Lia said in sobs as she placed a hand on her chest.

Phoebe couldn't help but roll her eyes in disgust, she was sure she was feigning sympathy.

"I'm sure you must be feeling happy now that Prudence is gone," Phoebe mused inwardly, and then when Lia took notice of her, she changed her face to a welcoming smile.

"You should have at least called us at the airport," Phoebe said, and then she walked toward her embracing her.

"I know, Dear, I'm so sorry for what happened to Prudence, I know it must have been a lot to take in, is not just a tragic moment for you but also misery for all of us. I know both I and Prudence were the talk of the house when it came to fights but believe me when I say my heart felt as though it was broken when I heard about her death, I couldn't just take it in. I came here to at least attend her burial because I want to see Prudence's body one last time before she departs from us."

"There would be no burial, Aunty," Phoebe said curtly as Lia became stunned.

"No burial? What do you mean by that? Are you cremating her?" Phoebe thought inwardly if she could trust her to tell her the whole event.

After consideration, she bit her tongue not to speak a word, everyone had become the suspect and she needed not to say a word if she wanted to discover the secret.

The main planner of both her father's and Prudence's deaths is also the person who had her father's business.

Somehow she couldn't help but admit everything felt so connected.

She wondered why the killer was hiding.

"I'll leave now," Phoebe calmly said as her mother held her arm.

"Dear? Wouldn't you take Lia to her room?" Phoebe didn't say a word looking into her mother's awaiting eyes, she didn't want to take her anywhere but after a while battling an eye contest, Phoebe smiled.

"Okay cmon, Aunty," she said, and then, she called the helpers to carry her luggage as Phoebe walked the stairs.

She first headed to her aunty's room (guest room) which was just the opposite wing to her own.

Whenever Lia came to the house, she'd always had someone to take her to her room despite knowing the way to the guest room.

She couldn't believe her aunt.

Once she got to the door, she stopped.

"We're at our destination," she claimed.

"Thank you, dear," her aunt complimented, and then, Phoebe feigned a smiled, on her way to her take a slumber on her bed.

She bumped into one of the helpers pouring one of Lia's luggage.

"Ahh," she growled in shock, and then, she realized the clothes in the bag had fallen, kneeling to help the maid, she saw something unfamiliar but she was interested in what she saw.

Phoebe picked a silver mask as she stood up to hand over the mask to the helper.

But before that, she thought it was best if she could tease her aunt about the mask.

"What a mask you have, are you going to a ball or something?" Phoebe called her attention to what was in her hand.

"Oh that one, I was recently given that mask, I'm not going anywhere."

"Oh," she said handing it to her aunt, and then, she was on her way to her room to finally get her sleep.

***

Enim stayed bored lying on the bed, she couldn't lie, things were a bit interesting with Vixen around.

As she stood from the bed, she walked toward the box taking Enim's diary, her hand skipped through the box and then a part of a picture frame was revealed in the box.

She took the frame to see it was a childhood picture frame of a woman and Enim.

It seems it was an old picture, from the looks of it, she looked like a sixteen-year-old, and her mother looked rather young.

For some reason as she stared at the woman, she seemed familiar but she couldn't pinpoint where she had met her, then she turned the frame just to be shocked by what she saw.

"Thank you so much Mom for being there for me," a note was written behind the picture with a smiley face.

"That woman is Enim's mother?!!" She said in awe.
