Marrying Unohana Retsu from Bleach

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: The Tremor of the Gotei 13

Silver flashes of sword light streaked across the streets.

Araki and Unohana Yachiru had already carried their battle out of the Eleventh Division barracks, their fight now raging in the streets of the Seireitei.

The immense spiritual pressures of the two fighters, coupled with their unparalleled swordsmanship designed solely to kill, clashed violently with each exchange.

Though their attacks targeted only each other, the sheer strength of their spiritual energies imbued even casual blows with massive destructive power. The streets in their wake were left resembling a landscape swept by a hurricane.

As the two combatants moved further and further away, the area near the Eleventh Division barracks bore the aftermath of their fight. The blue stone bricks of the streets were riddled with cracks, and the thick, historically rich walls had been reduced to piles of rubble.

"She really lives up to the title of the First Kenpachi. Not an ounce of her strength is exaggerated," Araki thought, retreating slightly as he clashed with Unohana Yachiru, putting some distance between them while contemplating his next moves.

In the original work, Tite Kubo described Unohana Retsu, also known as Unohana Yachiru, with the opening phrase, "Battle is everything." At the same time, her defining keyword was mercy—the kind compassion hidden within a ruthless and deadly warrior.

Araki, understanding these aspects of her character, had crafted a straightforward battle plan: defeat Unohana Yachiru head-on in front of an audience, awakening the mercy buried deep within her heart.

But right now, Araki waited. The stage wasn't big enough yet. He needed more spectators for this battle to unfold at its fullest.

Meanwhile, the clash of spiritual pressures between the two fighters sent shockwaves across the entire Gotei 13, shaking it to its very core.

Sixth Division Barracks

Inside the captain's quarters of the Sixth Division, a petite woman with long purple hair sat quietly, sipping her tea with a refined air. She looked remarkably calm—completely out of character.

In truth, she was forcing herself to appear ladylike.

Today, she had resolved to act like a proper and reliable captain.

After all, today was the day she had agreed to meet Araki in the Seireitei. More importantly, it was also the day she had decided to appoint Araki as her vice-captain of the Sixth Division.

At least, that was how Saito—a centuries-old loli and founding captain of the Sixth Division—saw it. Today was the day she would welcome Araki into her division.

But her plans were interrupted when she sensed two enormous spiritual pressures clashing violently, shaking the entire Seireitei.

"Oi, oi, oi..." She set her tea down with a frown, her calm demeanor vanishing. "Can't you let me have some peace for just one day?!"

While ordinary Shinigami might not be able to sense the changes in the reishi in the air, captains or those with particularly sensitive spiritual perception could feel the clash of these two monstrous energies. To them, it was like a deafening rock concert right next to their ears.

"Damn it! Why can't this place ever be quiet?"

Even though she hadn't seen the fighters yet, Saito could infer their personalities from the way their spiritual pressures clashed. She immediately concluded that both combatants were as unruly and chaotic as herself.

"If I'm not mistaken, one of them is that troublesome woman, Unohana Yachiru," she spat, slamming a hand on her desk. "Tch! Damn Unohana, starting fights in the middle of the Seireitei—does she have no regard for the rules of the Gotei 13?!"

She paused, frowning again. "And as for the other spiritual pressure… huh? It doesn't belong to any current captain of the Gotei 13. But… why does it feel so strangely familiar?"

Saito felt an odd mix of recognition and unfamiliarity from the other energy, sparking confusion. "There shouldn't be anyone like that in the Seireitei."

After a moment of futile thought, she sighed and gave up. "Bah, whatever. Not my problem."

Saito leaned back, staring at her teacup. "Araki, when are you coming to see me in the Sixth Division? I'm bored."

But Saito's wish for peace didn't align with reality. Trouble had a way of coming straight to her door.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted from the Eleventh Division barracks, sending shockwaves rippling through the entire Seireitei. Even the Sixth Division barracks, far from the epicenter, felt the tremor.

Crash!

Saito's teacup toppled off the table, shattering against the ground.

"UNOHAHA… YACHIRU!!!" Saito's eyes widened as her rage boiled over.

Even a saint would lose patience, let alone someone with her short fuse. If it weren't for the fact that she was expecting Araki today, she would've rushed out to confront Unohana the moment the fight began.

But this was the last straw. She grabbed her zanpakuto, fire in her eyes.

"If I don't kick the two of you out of the Seireitei, I'm not fit to call myself a captain of the Sixth Division!"

Just as she was about to storm out, the door to her office burst open. Two figures entered without permission—her two Third Seats and self-proclaimed biggest fans.

"Captain! Something major has happened! Someone's fighting Captain Unohana, and they're heading toward the First Division barracks!"

"This is huge—one of the biggest events since the Gotei 13 moved into the Seireitei!"

Saito twitched at their unannounced intrusion. "Do you think I don't already know that?! And why are you barging into my office without permission?!"

Her fiery glare fell on her subordinates, who immediately started sweating bullets. But Saito wasn't one to let things slide—she grabbed one of her shoes and launched into a scolding.

After she "dealt with" her insubordinate Third Seats, Saito stormed out of the Sixth Division barracks, determined to see for herself who dared to challenge Unohana.

The Battlefield

When Saito arrived at the scene, she saw the captains of the Gotei 13 already gathered, drawn by the immense clash of spiritual pressures.

"Yo, Little Saito! Took you long enough!"

A dark-skinned man with silver hair, brimming with confidence, turned to her with a grin.

"Don't call me 'Little Saito!' I'm not much younger than you, you bastard!" Saito snapped, her irritation flaring.

The man, Shihoin Chika, head of the Shihouin Clan and ancestor to Shihoin Yoruichi, chuckled. "Ah, there it is! That classic Saito temper. Feisty as ever."

"Idiot!" Saito's hand was already on her zanpakuto, half-drawing the blade. "Keep talking, and I'll show you how much 'temper' I have."

Before a fight could erupt between the two, another voice chimed in.

"Shh, quiet!" A muscular man with short brown hair, his hand casually spinning a short blade, gestured toward the battlefield. "Pay attention to the fight instead."

Saito followed his gaze.

Her eyes widened in disbelief when she saw the two figures battling in the distance. One was, as she expected, Unohana Yachiru herself.

But the other...

It wasn't some random stranger. It was someone she knew—someone she'd been waiting for.

"Araki?! The person fighting Unohana... is YOU?!"

Her voice trembled as she shouted his name, unable to hide her shock.
