Chapter 6: Chapter 6: George's Worry
Kingdom of Fiore, Magnolia,
As a medium-sized city located east of Fiore, Magnolia and its population of 60,000 have a rather full moon tonight, which is a little unusual, but no one cares. Where have things ever been normal in this lively city?
At least, the mages of Fairy Tail don't care. They are enjoying their night as usual, drinking and fighting. If one were to enter and be told it's a tavern, they wouldn't doubt it.
Despite this, Makarov didn't care. At least, he was there enjoying his drink while having a rare moment of melancholy, happy about the guild atmosphere. He thought that Precht would definitely be happy seeing the current Fairy Tail.
The only thing he was worrying about was Fairy Tail's current strength. After 36 years under his leadership, Fairy Tail is at its weakest state—at least, that's what he thinks.
Of course, the weakness he was talking about was regarding the Guild's future. Currently, Fairy Tail doesn't lack high-end power with him, Gildarts, and Warrod—three people who could rank among the kingdom's ten strongest mages.
After taking another drink, all his worries vanished. Let the future him have trouble thinking about his present; as for the current him, let's enjoy the present.
That was until he felt some kind of spatial fluctuations. Looking at the guild entrance, he saw some kind of space gate with a beautiful woman in her sleeping clothes coming out.
Makarov chuckled, "It seems I'm getting too old, but speaking of it, the guild should recruit some beauties instead of being full of rough men."
He drank the rest of the alcohol, thinking he was having some hallucinations, but then, upon opening his eyes again, he saw that the guild members were also looking at his hallucinations.
The girl didn't seem intimidated by the gaze she was receiving but looked around, saw the guild emblem, and looked at him, saying, "Well, it seems that I'm in the right place."
Gwen looked at the people who seemed frozen, staring at her. Who could be better allies than Fairy Tail?
Although this isn't like in the anime with Mirajane at the reception, and Natsu and Gray bickering, some things are the same, like Wakaba smoking—though he looks younger—and Macao drinking with him.
To be honest, seeing them made Gwen more sentimental than seeing Peter. Fairy Tail had been her youth, the third anime she watched and the one where she took some philosophy.
Gwen then settled on the man who wrestled with Acnologia in his dragon form despite being injured—one of her most liked characters—Fairy Tail's third master, Makarov.
Although he didn't know why she did, Makarov could feel Gwen's favorability toward him, which made him relax a little. It didn't seem to be any kind of trouble.
There was something that attracted Makarov's interest, though—he didn't feel any kind of Magic Power from Gwen. This isn't strange, as not everyone can be a mage, but then, how was she able to close the spatial gate as if she were using magic?
Gwen, who walked toward Makarov, said, "Hello, I'm Gwen Stacy. I want to join Fairy Tail."
Makarov was caught off guard by Gwen's demand, but then he smiled. It seemed that the family was about to add a new, interesting member.
But before he could reply, someone was faster than him. "You want to join? Okay, it's been a long time since the guild recruited a beautiful woman."
"Yeah, speaking of it, her magic seems interesting. Maybe I would form a team with her."
"Magic? Magic, my ass! You're just attracted by her beauty."
These discussions came from the guild members, who apparently didn't even care about his opinion, which made Makarov angry and helpless.
He yelled, "Be quiet! Can't you see that you're being a bit rude to our new member?"
Gwen's brow couldn't help but twitch. "A little bit rude?" She couldn't imagine what it would be like once that "little bit" was removed.
Makarov was clearly satisfied with the guild being quiet for a moment. Well, only for a moment, as the chattering returned—but not as loudly as before.
He could only shake his head helplessly. He turned to Gwen and said, "You want to join the guild? Okay, no problem. Welcome to Fairy Tail."
Gwen sighed. She wasn't even surprised by the lack of formality of this guild, just accepting members as long as it felt right. Gwen questioned herself: how did Makarov even make the guild of Fiore like this?
You have to know, in the Naruto world next door, a certain third Hokage, despite all his efforts and schemes, only made his village weaker. This is unscientific.
Still, Gwen asked, uncertainly, "That's without some kind of test or something like that?"
Makarov nodded and replied, "As long as you don't have any ill intentions, anyone is welcome to join my family, no matter what kind of secrets you hide."
Gwen wanted to ask how he knew if someone had ill intentions. Even in One Piece, where there's Observation Haki, Whitebeard was betrayed by Teach, let alone in this world, where there are even weirder abilities.
After all, the Fairy Tail members are just playful. Everyone returned to their things as if what happened was just a prank.
As for Gwen, she was looking at Makarov, who took a stamp—or Magic Stamp, as it may be called—and asked where she would like her mark to be.
Gwen hesitated for a moment. She didn't think George would like his girl having some kind of tattoo on the back of her hand. She thought of a place where it wouldn't be easily seen by others.
She said, "I want it on my shoulder here, just below my right shoulder."
It was the same as the protagonist, with the difference that she would have to stop using sleeveless clothes.
Makarov nodded and placed the stamp on Gwen's right shoulder, just below the edge of her sleeve.
A faint glow emanated from the spot, and when he removed the stamp, the Fairy Tail emblem appeared in vivid purple, a color Gwen had subconsciously chosen.
"There you go," Makarov said, smiling warmly. "Welcome to Fairy Tail, Gwen Stacy!"
The rest of the guild erupted in cheers, though a few whistles and teasing remarks followed, making Gwen roll her eyes.
Makarov gestured to an empty seat at the bar. "Why don't you sit down for a moment, Gwen? Have a drink, relax. We can talk about what brought you here in a bit."
Gwen looked around again. Although she was interested in magic, there wasn't anyone she was familiar with apart from Makarov, Macao, and Wakaba. Plus, it was really time to return.
She politely declined, "I'm sorry, Master Makarov, I have some things to do at home. I just came to join the guild today. See you later."
Well, although he wanted some company, it didn't matter. It's not like in the latter days when Mirajane restricted him from drinking.
He waved his hand, showing his understanding. "Okay, everyone has their things to do. See you later."
After that, Gwen opened the portal leading to her Room Dimension. She wasn't sure how the time flow worked between the Fairy Tail and the Marvel worlds. If 10 minutes in Fairy Tail was like 10 hours, that would be troublesome.
"What a peculiar ability. How was she even able to open a space gate without using any magic?" Makarov murmured, seeing Gwen returning through the space gate. Anyway, it wasn't anything pressing. She would share her secret if she felt like it. For now, let's continue drinking.
When Gwen returned to the dimension, she looked at the mark she left in the Marvel World, and fortunately, only five minutes had passed—the same amount of time as in the Fairy Tail world.
Being mentally prepared for some problems, she was pleased to see no trouble. This let her relax more. The next time she went to the Fairy Tail world, she could spend more time there.
She murmured, "Well, that's good. The Fairy Tail world will be my training grounds where I can adapt to my powers and also my base, where I can develop things without worry."
It's no wonder. The Marvel world has too many organizations gathering secret information who would notice any special anomalies—almost nothing can be kept secret in that world.
Now that she had an initial understanding of what her full abilities were capable of, Gwen was more relaxed. Unless her brain got kicked out of her head, she could gain power while realizing her dream of Magic and Martial Arts fighting. Just this thought excited her more than anything.
Before leaving, Gwen took one last look at the dimension and thought, "I need to develop this space further."
"I'll stock it with resources, books on magic, tools for experiments… Maybe I can even create a time dilation effect in the future, so I can train for longer periods."
She returned to her room after that. Thankfully, there didn't seem to be any changes, and it's likely no one had entered while she wasn't there. Still, she needed to learn something like Shadow Clone Jutsu or illusion magic.
What would be even better would be to move into a single apartment, but that would have to wait until the bands became active, where she would have the necessary money and a legitimate excuse.
...
While Gwen was thinking about moving out, George, who was outside, sighed, missing the bed and the hug of his wife.
There was nothing he could do. Since choosing this job, he knew what responsibility he had taken, and he was ready to sacrifice his happiness in preparing a better world for his children.
Speaking of his children, he couldn't help but think of Gwen. He was recalling the day she was born as if it were yesterday, but now she was already an adult and seemed to have matured.
From what he understood, the kind of maturity she had shown yesterday was the kind that happens only if one has lived through events like being bullied, the death of a loved one, giving birth, and the like.
Thankfully, his little investigation showed that Gwen wasn't bullied at school. So, only one reason came to his mind explaining Gwen's sudden maturity: a love story.
He was imagining all kinds of drama—Gwen loving a boy who later cheated on her or something like that. Although he had the urge to investigate who the boy was that dared to hurt his princess and put him behind bars, he still respected his daughter's private life.
"Captain George, it's confirmed that the robbery was done by mutants. We have the visuals."
It was another officer under George's command who came to report. A shocking robbery had occurred today at the Apex National Bank.
From the video, everything was normal until four people suddenly popped out of nowhere, as if teleporting. No, upon further judgment, George thought they might have hidden themselves, becoming invisible.
If they could teleport, they simply teleported to the vault, and the job was done.
One of the men controlled all the guards they encountered on their way, though he seemed to be able to only give them basic orders.
As for the last one, her ability was more remarkable. She seemed to be able to change her appearance, like the terrorist Mystique from the Brotherhood.
If it was really the work of the Mutants Brotherhood, things would be more serious, and the CIA might take over again. Apart from the three present, George didn't doubt they had an accomplice outside, like the one hacking the security system.
However, George's gut told him this wasn't the Brotherhood's usual style. They preferred bold and public displays of power, aiming to send a message.
This operation was quiet and surgical—meant to avoid detection for as long as possible.
George sighed deeply. "Mutants again," he muttered, running a hand through his hair. "It's going to be another long night."
"Captain," the officer continued, "we've also received word that the vault was emptied using some form of disintegration ability. The contents weren't physically removed—they were simply… gone."
George sighed. Was it someone with some kind of space ability? This little group was really made for robbing. George couldn't help but ask himself if they could rob Stark Industries.
"Send the footage to the lab," George ordered. "We need a deeper analysis. Focus on their faces and any unique identifiers. If they've pulled something like this before, we need to know where."
"Yes, sir." The officer left quickly, leaving George alone with his thoughts.
That was when George saw a familiar face: a semi-bald man who was a little chubby and had a friendly face. But unfortunately, George had the urge to punch that face.
It was a man who had robbed him of his job many times. It was Coulson from the CIA.
END OF THE CHAPTER
Ha, it's my first time writing a chapter with 2.000 words or more, and I rather enjoyed it; what do you think about Gwen joining Fairy Tail? I mean, if it's me, I would definitely have done it. Encountering such a selfless group of people is difficult in the real world; gotta enjoy it if you can.
Also, it seems that everyone likes Gwen going the superhero way, being a saint. Well, I'm joking. Even if it's not funny, her being an Anti-hero has more votes, but still, she is an Anti-hero and not an evil person or a supervillain.
