Chapter 26: Escaping Wakanda

Shuri ran through the corridors of the prison. Elena's voice was directing her every move.

"Take the next left, and you'll reach the new armory. You need to move faster, Shuri. Magneto's forces are converging on your location."

Shuri didn't need the reminder. She was already running at full speed, her heart pounding in her chest. Her mind raced through potential scenarios, trying to stay one step ahead of her captors. Saving Pepper was the top priority now if she wanted whoever helping her to help her people escape. Besides, Magneto had already done enough damage to Wakanda; she wasn't going to let him take another life.

Sliding into a sharp turn, her shoes skidded against the polished floor as she rounded the corner. Ahead, two guards stood at the entrance to the armory. Their expressions were blank, focused. There wasn't enough time for stealth, so she went for speed.

Before they could react, Shuri reached for the shock grenades she had lifted from the dead guards. With a quick flick of her wrist, she lobbed them toward the two men. The devices exploded with a blinding flash, sending arcs of electricity through their bodies. They dropped to the floor, twitching but alive.

"Neutralized," Elena confirmed through the comm. "Go inside."

Shuri rushed into the armory and looked at the rows of gear. And then she saw it—her suit. The one she had painstakingly designed, created from vibranium and laced with her most advanced tech. She almost smiled, her fingers tracing the smooth black surface. It felt like reclaiming a part of herself that had been stolen.

"Hurry, Shuri," Elena urged.

She didn't waste time. The suit slid on like a second skin, and immediately, she felt the connection as the HUD booted up in front of her eyes. Her vitals appeared in the corner of her vision, the suit's systems coming online. She activated her stealth mode, the suit blending with the surroundings.

"I'm ready. What's next?" Shuri asked in a calm voice. She was focused.

"Head to sector six. That's where they're keeping Pepper Potts. She's heavily guarded," Elena explained. "But you've got your suit now, so you'll have the upper hand. I've rerouted security systems to minimize detection."

Shuri took off again moving silently through the halls as she slipped past guards and automated defenses. The deeper she went, the more fortified the facility became, but with Elena feeding her the exact movements of guards and drones, she stayed one step ahead. As she approached sector six, she noticed the change in the security. She stopped in the shadows just outside the main holding area, scanning the corridor. It was flanked by a half-dozen armed guards, and a secondary force patrolled the hallway.

"Multiple guards," She whispered. "What's the best entry point?"

"I've hacked into the air filtration system," Elena replied quickly. "There's an access point just above the door. If you use your micro-bots, they can infiltrate the system and disable the guards before you go in."

Shuri smirked. "Good idea."

She activated her micro-bots from her wrist gauntlets. The tiny, spider-like drones swarmed toward the ventilation shaft above. Within moments, they slipped inside, moving the air ducts. Through her HUD, Shuri watched as the bots positioned themselves above each guard's head.

"Do it," she whispered.

The bots dropped from the vents, latching onto the guards' necks. There was a flash of electricity, and all six men dropped to the floor. They were alive but unconscious.

"Clear," Elena said.

Shuri dashed into the room. The cell doors were locked, and reinforced with magnetically sealed walls. Pepper Potts was sitting inside a chamber, her face drawn with exhaustion but alert. She looked up, her eyes widening as Shuri appeared and peeked through the small reinforced window.

"Pepper," Shuri said softly. "I'm getting you out of here."

Pepper stepped forward, "Shuri? How—"

"No time for questions," Shuri cut her off. "We need to move before Magneto's forces realize what's happening."

"Hurry," Elena's voice cut in. "Magneto's backup forces have just been alerted. They're heading to your location. You have maybe five minutes."

Shuri cursed under her breath. "Alright, we need to move fast." She raised her gauntlet, sending out a pulse that fried the magnetic locks on the cell. The door slid open with a soft hiss.

"Here," She said, handing Pepper a small energy pistol. "It's not much, but it'll help."

Pepper took it, her expression grim but she was more than ready to fight. "Let's go."

They made their way back into the corridor, moving quickly. Elena kept feeding Shuri real-time updates on the movements of Magneto's forces, but they couldn't avoid them all. As they rounded another corner, a squad of six guards appeared, guns raised.

Shuri reacted instantly, raising her hands. From her gauntlets, sonic blasts exploded, sending shockwaves that disarmed the guards and threw them back against the walls. But they weren't down for long. One of the guards struggled to his feet, reaching for his weapon.

Pepper fired first. A sharp blast of energy from her pistol hit the guard square in the chest, and he crumpled to the floor.

"Nice shot," Shuri commented, impressed.

Pepper managed a tight smile, her grip on the pistol firm. "Tony taught me well."

They began to move again after hiding the bodies from the plain sight.

"We're nearing the prison cells," Elena's voice echoed in Shuri's comm. "I've disabled the security cameras in the next sector, but you have five to ten minutes before Magneto's forces converge on this location."

Shuri's eyes narrowed. "How many are guarding the prison?"

"Three squads of twelve. Heavily armed. No more surprises though—Magneto's elites are stationed elsewhere."

Shuri nodded, "Let's move."

They moved through the labyrinthine halls, taking turns that felt endless, each corner a potential deathtrap.

'To think he built something like this...' Shuri thought.

"Next turn leads to the prison," Elena instructed. "I've unlocked the gates. Be ready."

They rounded the final corner and stepped into the vast underground chamber. Shuri's heart clenched at the sight before her: hundreds of Wakandan warriors, their spirits unbroken but their bodies bruised and weakened, stood huddled behind thick, magnetically-sealed barriers. The dim lighting cast long shadows over the area, amplifying the despair that hung in the air. But there was no time for sorrow—only action.

Elena hacked into the system and opened the cells.

"You're free!" Shuri called out, her voice filled with the kind of authority only a Wakandan princess could wield.

The gates slid open with a rumbling hiss, and the warriors—battle-hardened, yet wearied from captivity—looked up in astonishment. Among them was General Okoye, standing tall despite the chains that once bound her. He still had that fire in his eyes.

"Princess!" Okoye exclaimed, her eyes filled with both relief and pride. She took a step forward, flanked by a few of her soldiers. "We thought we'd never see you again."

Shuri smiled, feeling tears welling in her eyes, "There's no time for reunions just yet, my friend. We have to get out of here first."

Okoye nodded, "Lead the way."

The newly freed warriors surged out of their cells, their eyes gleaming with the fire of defiance. Shuri wasted no time, leading them toward the armory. Elena's constant updates kept them always a step ahead.

As they reached the armory, Shuri began arming the warriors with vibranium weapons, Wakandan shields, and state-of-the-art gear. "Take what you need," she commanded.

After arming up, Okoye asked, "What's our plan now? There are sentinels outside, not to mention thousands of mutants and robots."

"We are going to escape," Shuri replied as she quickly opened a sealed box. Inside was a technology similar to the fabricator. She took off her suit, placed it inside, and began to do some upgrades.

"The civilians..." Okoye pointed out.

"Magneto transferred them out of Wakanda to work in his sentinel facilities. He killed the old and weak who failed to be of any use to him," Elena informed Shuri about the present situation.

Shuir felt a surge of anger, but she pushed it down. She wanted to rip out Magneto's head, but there was no time. If she wanted to help those who were still alive, the only choice was to escape to have another fighting chance.

"We can't fight them as we are right now, but we sure will fight back, but not today. Our priority is to escape from this prison. We have to survive to have a fighting chance," Shuri said in a firm voice.

The general nodded, "Then let's go."

Elena had hacked into the security system and was constantly rerouting security protocols to keep the path clear for their escape.

"Elena, how close are we to the hangar?" Shuri whispered.

Even though Wakanda was supposed to be her home, the changes Magneto made to the place made it seem like a foreign land. It was like he tried to erase all of the former king's traces and turned the place into his own personal playground.

"You're almost there," Elena replied. "Expect resistance."

"Understood."

Shuri turned to Okoye and the group of warriors behind her. "We're nearing the hangar. Expect resistance. Stay sharp and don't engage unless absolutely necessary."

Okoye grinned, her spear in hand. "Princess, we've been waiting for a fight."

Pepper, clutching her pistol tightly, nodded in silent agreement.

They reached the final corner before the hangar, and Shuri halted. Ahead, two large doors led into the hangar bay, and standing in front of them were five guards, heavily armed. Shuri's eyes narrowed as she scanned the area, her mind racing for a plan.

"Elena, we've got five guards at the entrance," She reported quietly. "They are wearing buster suits. We can't take them head-on."

"Leave it to me," Elena's voice came through, calm and collected. "I'm sending in a drone strike. Stay back."

Shuri gestured for everyone to move back into the shadows of the hallway. Moments later, a quiet whirring filled the air. Shuri glanced up and saw a small swarm of drones gliding overhead, almost invisible in the dim light.

Within seconds, the drones hovered over the guards. Tiny sparks of electricity crackled in the air as the drones released precise electromagnetic pulses. The guards barely had time to react before they collapsed to the ground, their weapons disabled and their bodies stunned by the energy blasts.

"All clear," Elena confirmed. "Move in."

Shuri didn't waste any time. She motioned for the group to follow her as they approached the hangar doors. The door opened thanks to Elena.

The sight inside was exactly what they had hoped for: the hangar bay was secured, with no additional forces in sight. Several ships, sleek and ready for flight, were parked in rows, their engines humming with potential energy. Elena had done her job perfectly.

"The area's secure," Elena said over the comms.

Shuri turned to the warriors and nodded. "This is our way out. Everyone, get to the ships."

Okoye began directing the warriors, organizing them into groups. They quickly boarded the nearest vessels, taking positions at the controls.

Shuri climbed aboard the lead ship, helping Pepper into the co-pilot seat. As she strapped in, her HUD synced with the ship's systems. The engines roared to life, vibrating beneath them. Shuri's hands moved swiftly across the control panel, preparing for takeoff.

"Elena, any signs of reinforcements?" Shuri asked, her eyes scanning the hangar doors.

"Not yet, but they're coming," Elena replied. "You need to launch now."

With a firm grip on the controls, Shuri activated the ship's thrusters. The vessel lifted smoothly off the ground, followed by the others in formation.

"Everyone, let's go!" Shuri called out as she pushed the throttle forward. The ship shot forward, bursting through the hangar doors and into the open sky.

As the fleet of Wakandan ships soared into the air, Shuri allowed herself a brief moment of relief. They had escaped, but the fight wasn't over. Magneto's forces were still out there, and Wakanda was still at risk.

"I've disabled the shield. The sentinels and security system are under my control," Elena informed them. "You can leave Wakanda. Uploading the coordinates. Go there."

Shuri nodded to herself, "Good."

As soon as they flew out of Wakanda, Elena began her main mission. Killing Magneto's men.
