Chapter 29: Pepper's burden
[2 days later]
Harley tortured Magneto for two whole days without giving him a rest. She used the worst torture methods available and made him suffer a very slow death. Starting from slicing off his skin to cutting off his fingers, finally, she picked up her mallet and crushed his kneecaps.
The sound of his screams was music to Harley's ears. She grinned from ear to ear, her hands moving up and down in a fast rhythm as she crushed Magneto's kneecaps over and over again. Then slammed the mallet all over him, breaking his bones in the most painful ways before smashing his head open, and finally, ending him.
Blood splattered on her face. Her clothes were drenched in blood and the stink of death filled the chamber. However, she didn't care. Instead, she threw the mallet on the floor before leaving the room. She went straight to the shower and stood under the cold water, letting it wash away the blood covering her body.
"Hope ya all kiddos rest in peace. I've sent that freakin' monster to hell," Harley muttered under her breath as she rinsed the blood off her skin.
After a while, she turned off the shower and dried herself. Then she put on her clothes and went to the command center, a small room in the middle of the base. Bruce was sitting on the chair, looking at the ceiling, thinking about something. She walked over and sat on the other end of the table. "He's dead."
Bruce nodded. "Thanks, Harley." He looked at her and noticed her real face for the first time. Previously whenever he saw Harley, she was always in her makeup and twin pigtails mode. But now, her hair was down and her makeup wasn't on her face. She looked quite pretty if he has to say.
"Something on my face?" Harley asked raising her eyebrow.
"No, just noticed your real face for the first time. You look quite pretty without that heavy makeup," Bruce commented casually.
"Really? You think Harls is pretty?" Harley's eyes brightened, and she grinned. Her fingers were fiddling with a pen on the desk, but her eyes never left Bruce's face.
"Yeah," He nodded. "I like it better when women don't hide behind their makeup."
"Hehe, I see," Harley giggled as she bit her lower lips. "I'll keep it in mind."
"So, I guess you want to ask me about how I know about this base and where we are and what's going on, right? Since we didn't talk about it before coming here," Bruce said while stretching his arms above his head.
"Mm-hmm," She nodded.
"Alright. I'll tell you the secret, but you have to promise to keep it a secret from everyone, alright?"
"Okay, I promise," Harley nodded.
So, Bruce decided to tell her about his past life as Tony Stark in simple words to make sure Harley got the gist of it. Harley listened to him carefully and her eyes widened when she heard the fact that Bruce was actually Tony Stark from another world.
"Wow! That's freakin' insane!" Harley jumped up from her chair. "Rebirth? You got reborn after dying? Holy shit! What kind of cheat is this?"
Bruce shrugged his shoulders and leaned back on the chair. "Well, that's how it is."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold up. You're saying you're Bruce Wayne and Tony Sark. But Tony died and you were reborn as Bruce Wayne and now we are here, in your past world?" Harley pointed at Bruce. "Holy shit! Does Selina know about it?"
"Yup, Diana and Pamela too."
"..." Harley sat down on the chair, trying to get her head around this. "It's hard to believe, but it makes sense. I mean, if you think about it. Your suit, your abilities... It makes sense. So, what are you now? Batman in my world, Ironman in this world... How about Iron Bat? Wait! No, that kinda sounds bad... Batman Man? Bruce Man? Iron Bruce?"
"Let's not do this," Bruce shook his head.
"Why not?" Harley asked with a cute pout. "I wanna know how to call you during your hero job. I call myself, Super Harley or Super Wonder Harley. Selina got her Catwoman name. So, you should have one, right? A brand new name."
"Super Harley?" He smirked.
"Hehe, don't mock me. I am Super Harley."
"Well, call me Batman when I'm in a batsuit and Ironman when I'm in an iron suit. Pretty cool, right? One man two heroes. No one's gonna find out and they will be surprised to see a dead hero alive," Bruce said with a smile.
"Ah!" Harley slammed her fist on her palm. "Why haven't I thought of that? I can also be two heroes. Super Harley while wearing a skin-tight nano suit, and Wonder Harley while wearing Diana's armor."
"Sounds like a plan."
"Yep, it is. But I won't say anything about you being a reincarnator and stuff. Your secret is safe with me," Harley put a finger in front of her lips and made a 'shh' sound.
Bruce chuckled. "Thanks, Harley."
"Hey, don't sweat it. It's our little secret," She grinned. "Oh, I almost forgot." She stood up and dashed to the bathroom. She almost forgot to give Bruce the Sentinel core that she ripped out from a giant sentinel on the island back then. She picked up the core and came back. "Here, ripped this ball out of a giant mecha. You know what this is?"
"A sentinel core. Nice find, Harl," He took the core from her hand and began to examine it.
...
Later that day, Bruce and Harley decided to finally meet up with Selina at the Shield's base. Pepper should be there too. The truth... He was going to find it. As for the sentinels, Bruce took the master control and integrated it with the nanites in his bloodstream. He now has a total of 309 sentinels at his command along with the most advanced Sentinel X. He shrunk them using their adaptability function and stored them in his base. He kept ten with him in miniature form.
Harley looked at the ruins below them. The war was over and the rebuilding process had already started. But the city was still covered in dust. Buildings were destroyed, and streets were littered with rubble and bodies. The cleanup had already begun, but there was still a long way to go before everything returned to normal.
"Seesh, look at the city. It's so messed up," She shook her head. "That darn Magneto caused quite a lot of damage. Good thing he's dead now."
Bruce nodded. "Yeah, but more enemies will come. They are coming from other worlds. We need to be ready to face them."
"Other worlds? Like... aliens?"
Bruce nodded. "Yes. You can think of it like that. However, they aren't that simple."
"I see."
The two flew through the air towards the Shield base.

Pepper was sitting on a chair in a meeting room when the door opened. She lifted her head up, and her eyes widened as she saw Fury walk in. She stood up seeing him. Before he could speak...
"How did Eric find out about Tony?" She asked.
Fury glanced at her. "Spies. Someone leaked it."
"It was your job to keep the information safe. Now, we have no idea how many people Eric has told this information to," Pepper grabbed the chair and threw it across the room. Her eyes were red as she looked at him. "Damn it." Her usual calm expression was nowhere to be seen. Instead, anger and frustration covered her face.
"It wasn't easy," Fury said. "I did my best to keep it a secret, but you know what he is. With the war and all that... It was impossible to hide everything. And did you find what you were looking for in his base at Wakanda? You did get caught just to find it, right?"
"Yes. I've corrupted and deleted the data from Elena's primary core. The AI won't be able to leak anything anymore," She said before sitting down on the nearby chair with a loud sigh. "So, you still think you can harness that residual energy from his body? Even after all that happened?"
"Yes," Fury nodded. "We can't let it go to waste. The potential is too great. My people are already working on it as we speak. They will find a way to harness that energy and turn it into a weapon that can be used against any future threats."
"..."
Both of them remained silent for a moment before Fury broke it...
"You still regret your decision?" He asked.
"Dr. Strange's prophecy... Someone had to make the hard choice. I couldn't let anyone else take the fall. I should be the one to do it. My burden to carry."
"Was there no other way?" Fury asked.
"No," Pepper shook her head. "The fate of our world was in danger. You saw the threat. Superior Ironman... You knew it... You can't deny the fact that Tony has changed our world. The vision showed the insane technological progress and genetic advancement that he was going to make in the future attracting dangerous beings from other dimensions. So... Sigh! Tony deserved better. I broke his trust." She clenched her fist tightly. "He trusted me, and I betrayed him... But one life for our reality? It was worth it, right?"

Vol-1 completed on pat eon. Vol-2 is ongoing. I have decided to add new characters and stories that I doubt you have seen before in Marvel fanfiction, maybe you have read one or two in some ff. But I can guarantee you haven't read it all. Heck, some might have not heard some of the names before. It's a big gamble, but I want to write something new outside of overusing Jean, Wanda, or Rogue. 10 new underrated and forgotten characters with unique power and their mini-arcs will be added.
Character list: Tigra, White Tiger, Deathlok, Dusk, Elsa Bloodstone, Boom Boom, Hazmat, Hepzibah, Firestar, and White Fox.
