Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Let’s See Who’s Weak
"Did you see that young guy? He's quite good-looking."
"Yeah, and he seems so close to Mr. Stark. I wonder which prestigious family he belongs to."
"The girl next to him is also stunning. Ugh, someone already got to him first!"
"Wait, are you into him too?"
"Aren't you?"
Hearing the group of curvy beauties whispering about Han Yu, Stark thought to himself that Han Yu was probably not used to being the center of attention like this. Curious to see his reaction, Stark turned around, ready to tease him, but what he saw surprised him.
Han Yu maintained a calm and gentle smile the entire time. Even when women came up to flirt with him, he politely declined with a smile, occasionally even using Stark himself as an excuse to deflect their advances.
Stark couldn't help but chuckle. This guy is something else, staying this composed. A mindset like his is rare for someone in their early twenties. The more I see, the more interesting he gets.
In just twenty steps, more than three exceptionally attractive women had given Han Yu their contact information. Watching this unfold, Stark felt a tinge of jealousy and couldn't resist joking, "Han, I haven't even said a word, but you've already become the star of the evening. Quite the ladies' man, aren't you? Look at all the eyes on you!"
Han Yu responded, "It's only because I'm standing next to Mr. Stark. Without you, I wouldn't get this kind of attention."
Han Yu's words pleased Stark, who laughed and patted him on the shoulder. His opinion of Han Yu rose even higher. Mysterious, powerful, yet humble—this young man is definitely worth befriending.
In truth, Han Yu didn't dare flirt with any of the beautiful women. After all, standing beside him was Wanda, a girl who could destroy worlds. Even without turning his head, Han Yu could feel her sly, amused gaze. Every time a woman approached to chat with him, Wanda's small hand would pinch his waist discreetly but firmly.
Han Yu winced internally. Why pinch me? It's not my fault I look good. I barely said anything to them!
What should have been a short walk of twenty steps felt like an eternity to Han Yu.
Finally, they reached a quieter spot near the windows. When Han Yu saw the group of people in front of him, his usual calm expression shifted slightly. Sitting there were the members of the Avengers!
"Let me introduce you," Stark said promptly. "This is my friend Han Yu, and his girlfriend, Wanda."
The mention of Wanda caused visible reactions among the group. Wasn't she one of the superpowered twins who escaped from the enemy base in Sokovia?
Stark quickly noticed the unease on their faces. He understood their confusion, as it mirrored his own, but he chose to clarify things to avoid offending Han Yu.
"Wanda had some misunderstandings with us before, but now she's Han Yu's girlfriend. Let's not dwell on the past," Stark said diplomatically.
Hearing Stark's explanation, the group decided to let the matter rest for now. A confrontation here would only make things awkward.
As Han Yu scanned the room, his thoughts raced. Clint Barton, Captain America Steve Rogers, Black Widow Natasha Romanoff, Bruce Banner, Thor, War Machine James Rhodes, and Agent Maria Hill from S.H.I.E.L.D. Stark brought me here to meet all of them. It's clear he's keen on building a good relationship with me.
Outwardly, Han Yu remained calm and greeted them with a smile. "Hello, everyone."
Thor, however, seemed unimpressed. He gave Han Yu a dismissive glance and chuckled disdainfully. "Tony, is this the person you wanted to introduce us to? You've got to be kidding me. He doesn't seem like much."
At just over twenty years old, Han Yu was indeed the youngest in the room.
Han Yu's expression didn't waver. Instead, he smiled and met Thor's gaze directly. "If someone's worth is determined solely by their age, then Mr. Thor, your thousand years of life don't seem to have brought much maturity."
"Whoa!"
The Avengers collectively raised their eyebrows in surprise, exchanging glances filled with intrigue. This is getting interesting.
The young man standing before them exuded confidence and composure. No one expected him to speak to Thor in such a bold manner.
Thor, a prince of Asgard, was naturally proud and often ranked among the most arrogant members of the Avengers. Few dared to talk back to him—this was new.
"Young man, are you trying to provoke me?" Thor asked, stepping forward to stand before Han Yu. At 6'3" (190 cm), Thor loomed over Han Yu, who was just shy of 5'11" (180 cm). The Asgardian looked down on him with a commanding presence.
Han Yu maintained his smile. "Isn't that the logic you operate on, Mr. Thor?"
"Tony, this guy you brought along has guts," Captain America whispered to Stark. "He's standing up to Thor without flinching. Where'd you find him?"
Stark, proud that his guest wasn't intimidated by Thor, grinned but didn't answer.
Seeing Stark's silence, Steve didn't press further. He stepped forward, ready to mediate if things escalated.
"Thor, knock it off."
At that moment, Captain America stepped in to mediate. Although he kept a neutral demeanor, deep down, he agreed with Han Yu's comment.
Thor often used his age and warrior experiences in Asgard as a reason to lecture the team.
"Mr. Han was personally introduced by Tony, which makes him an honored guest. Let's all get along and avoid unnecessary conflicts," Steve said firmly.
"Fine, for Stark's sake, I'll let it slide," Thor huffed. Given the way Captain America had diffused the situation, Thor took the opportunity to step back, returning to his seat with a faint grunt.
"Since we were just discussing it, we're talking about who might be able to lift Thor's hammer. You can sit down and watch," Stark said, making room for Han Yu to join the group.
"I'll go first!"
Hawkeye was the first to step up, as he had been the one to bring up the topic. He'd always been curious whether Thor's hammer was truly as magical as he claimed.
Gripping the handle, Hawkeye gave it a hard tug. However, it felt as though he wasn't holding the handle of a hammer, but something fused to the ground itself.
No matter how much effort he exerted, the hammer didn't budge, not even by a millimeter.
After a while, Hawkeye finally let go, scratching his head awkwardly. "I really don't get how you manage it," he admitted.
"Doesn't it feel like some kind of silent judgment?" Stark quipped. "As if the universe just decided you're not god-material."
The group burst into laughter, and Hawkeye shrugged, gesturing dramatically. "Your turn, Stark."
"Oooh, this should be good," someone chimed in.
Raising an eyebrow, Stark casually undid a button on his shirt. "I never back down from a challenge. This is just physics, after all."
He stepped up, slipped the leather strap Thor used to wield the hammer onto his arm, and pulled hard. Just like with Hawkeye, the hammer didn't budge.
"One moment," Stark said, walking off to grab a mechanical arm. After strapping the steel appendage onto himself, he made another attempt.
Even with the mechanical arm's enhanced strength and assistance from War Machine, who used his own powered arm to help, the hammer remained completely stationary.
Finally, Captain America stepped up. Placing both hands on the handle, he gave it a steady pull. The hammer shifted ever so slightly—a barely perceptible movement that only Thor, Han Yu, and Wanda noticed.
The rest of the group, immersed in the lively atmosphere, didn't catch the subtle motion. Thor's expression darkened briefly before quickly softening into a grin when others looked his way.
"It seems Rogers does have the potential to lift the hammer," Thor thought to himself, "but he hasn't yet reached the level of resolve necessary. The day he does will be the day he truly wields it."
Han Yu, observing from the side, couldn't help but recall the scene from Avengers: Endgame in his previous life. In that moment of utter despair, when Captain America raised Mjolnir, the crowd erupted. Not just the audience in the film but everyone who watched the movie worldwide. Cheers, tears—it was a moment etched into cinematic history.
"Rogers can lift the hammer?" Han Yu murmured quietly to himself, a faint smile playing on his lips.
