MARVEL -BLACK SPIDERMAN

Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The First Dangerous Public Performance

Uncle Ben reacted quickly, kicking the pistol away from the ground. The clerk also acted swiftly, pulling out his hidden pistol and pointing it at the two gangsters.

"Don't move!" the clerk shouted.

In an instant, the situation had turned. The gangster, who had been clutching his wrist and moaning, immediately raised his hands when the gun was aimed at him.

On their way back, Uncle Ben and Peter walked along the dimly lit street, reflecting on the earlier events. The two robbers from the supermarket had already been taken into custody by the arriving police.

Uncle Ben paused and turned to Peter, concern in his voice. "Peter, are you okay? You're not hurt, right?"

"I'm fine, Uncle Ben," Peter replied, reassuring his uncle.

Uncle Ben came closer, patting Peter's shoulder. "That's a relief. You've always been a good, lively, and hopeful boy. I've always believed in you. But recently, you've been more withdrawn, not as cheerful and talkative as before."

Uncle Ben's expression softened with nostalgia. "I know something's been bothering you, Peter. But I also know that you're still kind at heart. Just like when you protected me earlier."

As a car passed by, picking up a few fallen leaves, Uncle Ben looked deep into Peter's eyes. "Your father, he believed in something very strongly. A belief that guided him throughout his life. It benefited him greatly."

Peter listened intently, curious. "What was it, Uncle Ben?"

"He believed that if you can do something in this world, you must do it well. Do it better than anyone else, and do it in a way that helps others. Make their lives better," Uncle Ben explained.

Uncle Ben's eyes drifted into the past as he continued, "He didn't do this because he was looking for temporary rewards, but because he had a deep sense of responsibility."

He met Peter's gaze again. "Peter, something extraordinary is coming your way. You're destined to do great things. But with greatness comes great responsibility. It will be heavy, but I know you'll rise to it."

Peter fell silent, absorbing his uncle's words. A strange feeling stirred inside him, a sense of premonition, though he could not understand it fully. Could it be that Uncle Ben had some sort of insight into his future?

Clearing his throat, Uncle Ben added, "Alright, let's head home."

The next day, Liz Allen's house was buzzing with energy. As the student council president of Zhongcheng High School, Liz was a popular figure, and her party had attracted many students.

Though Gwen wasn't initially interested in attending, she had to go because of her involvement with the "Mary Janes" band. The band was performing, and Gwen couldn't back out.

Gwen wore a velvet gown with an embossed design and a straight hem, which was a special outfit reserved for the band members. It made her feel slightly uncomfortable.

"You look beautiful, Gwen," Glory, one of the band members, complimented.

Gwen half-smiled, feeling a little awkward. "Well, if those conservative people see me in this, they'd probably say, 'On this sacred land, we repent!'"

Glory raised an eyebrow and made an exaggerated expression. "Oh my god! Gwen, you're such a conservative person."

Gwen chuckled. "I'm not a conservative Christian, I just thought maybe such a beautiful dress should be worn for someone special."

Just then, Gwen checked her phone, finding a message from Peter. He had responded to her invitation to watch her performance last night. Although it wasn't a public performance, it was still her first time performing in front of others.

Last night, she had also heard from her father about the robbery at the supermarket. Though Peter and Uncle Ben had handled the situation well, Gwen couldn't help but feel concerned. Was Peter psychologically affected by the event?

"I should have gone shopping near Peter's house last night," she thought to herself. As Spider-Woman, she felt responsible for his well-being. If anything happened to Peter, she would feel like a failure as a superhero.

"Hi Gwen!" Liz approached her, interrupting her thoughts.

Liz was dressed in a black dress and a raven-adorned mask, looking mysterious. "Good evening, Liz, you look very special," Gwen said, greeting her.

Liz twirled around dramatically. "Of course, I'm now 'Lenore!'"

She then recited, "One winter night, a solemn crow visited me. I wanted to learn of my lost lover, but the crow said, 'Nevermore.'"

Gwen and Glory exchanged a confused glance.

"Ahem, I'm not interested in sonnets, 'Lenore,'" Gwen remarked, feeling rather unimpressed.

Liz had apparently taken inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. She was playing the character of Lenore, a part Gwen had seen performed by the drama club at school. But Gwen wasn't much of a fan of literature.

"Of course," Liz nodded in understanding. "A top student like you is more into science and not those silly poems. I get it."

Liz handed out two glasses of juice to Gwen and Glory. "Where's Peter? Didn't he say he was coming?"

Gwen glanced at her phone again, still hoping Peter would show up. "Maybe he's on his way," she said, though a feeling of unease lingered. She was concerned about him, but also wanted him to be there for her performance.

The party was in full swing. The Mary Janes were performing on stage, and Gwen played the drums with skill and precision, following the rhythm perfectly. Glory, the lead singer, showed off her vocal talent confidently.

The music pulsed in the background, but Gwen's thoughts kept returning to Peter.

Meanwhile, Peter was not at the party. Instead, he was handling something much more pressing.

A strong man in a suit was lying on the ground, his body splattered with mud. Peter had knocked him out cold. He stepped on the man's chest, demanding, "Who sent you?"

The man groaned in pain, his body aching from the force of Peter's actions. "Mr. Osborne," the man gasped out, barely able to speak.

Peter's eyes narrowed at the mention of Osborne's name. He had been observing a suspicious figure around his house earlier. When he finally confronted the person, he took him down effortlessly.

Now, with the man's confession, Peter was even more certain that Norman Osborn had sent these people after him. Not only was Osborn monitoring him, but he had also sent people to target Gwen.

Peter clenched his fists. It seemed that Norman was growing increasingly suspicious of Gwen's true identity. Peter had to act quickly. He pulled out his phone, checking the message from Gwen. She had invited him to her performance, but Peter couldn't help but worry.

Could the Green Goblin be behind this?
