Chapter 35: Chapter 35 Peter’s Confession
When Peter arrived at Uncle Ben's house, Uncle Ben, who had been waiting for him patiently, immediately invited him to sit on the sofa.
"Peter, it hasn't been easy for you, has it? Maybe I've been putting too much pressure on you, and it's made everything harder," Uncle Ben said, his voice heavy with concern. He could clearly see the difference between the Peter Parker he once knew and the young man sitting before him now.
Being Spider-Man had taken a toll on Peter. Juggling work, school, and nightly battles against criminals had left him physically and mentally drained. He felt stretched too thin, unable to perform any of his responsibilities as well as he wanted.
But now, without the Spider-Man mantle weighing on him, Peter seemed much more at ease. His face carried a lighter expression, a rare smile. He attended his classes on time and even managed to engage more fully with his daily life.
"Uncle Ben, you don't have to worry about me," Peter began, trying to reassure him. "The school has already made accommodations for me. The principal has granted me permission to arrive late to class if necessary. They're even recording the lessons so I can catch up later. Dr. Connors called to say I could reach out to him if I need any help."
He smiled faintly, continuing, "I also don't have to work anymore. The salary from the police department is enough to cover my expenses. And as for Mary Jane… I trust Harry will take good care of her."
Peter glanced at a video playing on the screen. Watching it as a detached observer, he realized he couldn't provide Mary Jane with what she needed or deserved. He didn't want to put her in harm's way. Though things were already complicated, at least no one dared to attack her outright—anyone who did would have to face Spider-Man's wrath.
Uncle Ben nodded solemnly, and the two continued their conversation until Aunt May interrupted with dinner.
[The scene transitions. Uncle Ben's tombstone comes into view, surrounded by flowers. Aunt May's voice breaks the silence: "He's gone… just like that. God is so unfair. He was such a peaceful man. This is all my fault."]
[Aunt May gently placed a bouquet of flowers at the grave as Peter stood behind her, silently watching. Today marked the second anniversary of Uncle Ben's death.]
[Back at Aunt May's house, she poured Peter a cup of tea. He tried to comfort her, urging her not to blame herself. But Aunt May couldn't shake the thought that if she had stopped Ben from driving that night, they could all be sitting together, sharing tea.]
[Peter's heart clenched as he thought about his own culpability. Regret surged through him, weighing heavily on his chest. Finally, he looked at Aunt May and sighed, "I am responsible."]
[Aunt May blinked in confusion. "Why?"]
["Because everything that happened to Uncle Ben is my fault!" Peter confessed.]
["But you were at the library, doing your homework!" she countered, her voice trembling.]
["He sent me there," Peter admitted. "But I didn't go. I… I went somewhere else, somewhere I thought I could win some money to buy a car and impress Mary Jane."]
[Aunt May's expression shifted, her eyes narrowing as she processed his words. "What are you saying, Peter?"]
[Peter looked down, his voice laced with pain. "It all happened so fast. I won some money, but the guy refused to pay. Then he was robbed. The robber ran toward me, and I could've stopped him… but I didn't. I wanted him to get away."]
[He swallowed hard. "The same man stole Uncle Ben's car. Uncle Ben tried to stop him… and he was shot."]
[Aunt May's eyes widened in shock, tears brimming as Peter continued, "Uncle Ben was killed because he did the right thing. And I… I held his hand as he died."]
[Peter reached out, placing a hand over hers. "For so long, I've wanted to tell you this."]
[Aunt May slowly withdrew her hand, staring at him in disbelief. Without saying a word, she stood and walked upstairs, unwilling to cry in front of him.]
"Finally you said it out, Peter Parker. I think you will feel better now, right?" Pepper said as she stood beside Tony. Tony was in high spirits today and ran to Stark Industries. The two of them looked at the screen together.
"Ah, that's true, just say it out loud, don't keep it in your heart." Tony nodded in agreement.
Then Rhodes came, and the two had something to discuss today. Seeing this, Pepper gave up her seat to them and went out to do her work.
[The scene shifts again. Otto Octavius adjusts his equipment with mechanical arms, fine-tuning the intricate machinery. The camera pans out to reveal a fully constructed device, lacking only its raw materials.]
[Meanwhile, Harry Osborn sits in his villa, slamming the table in frustration as he reads a report about Spider-Man. "Where are you?!" he growls.]
[Butler Bernard approaches him cautiously. "It's getting late, sir. I think I'll head home."]
["Fine," Harry mutters. "Good night, Bernard."]
[After Bernard leaves, Harry steps onto the balcony with a glass of wine. Thunder rumbles in the distance. Suddenly, a metallic vibration grows louder, approaching rapidly.]
[Harry sensed something and walked cautiously to the balcony. Just as he was about to look down, a mechanical tentacle suddenly stretched out and knocked him to the ground.]
[The wine glass in his hand also flew up, and just as it was about to break, a mechanical arm suddenly caught the glass. Harry looked closely and saw Otto standing on the wall of his balcony.]
[Otto looked at Harry and said, "Hello, Harry!"]
[Harry looked at Otto, the uninvited guest, and asked, "Otto, what do you want?"]
[Otto took a sip of wine and said calmly: "Tritium is worth a fortune. I want more this time!"]
[The tentacle throws the wine glass out and smashes it against the wall. He slowly approaches Harry. Harry hears what Otto said and says in a panic: "More tritium? Are you crazy? You'll raze the city to the ground! Madman!"]
[After hearing what Harry said, a tentacle attacked him directly. Harry tried to run away, but the tentacle was obviously faster than him. It grabbed his calf and lifted him upside down, putting him outside the balcony.]
[Harry was frightened and screamed, "Ok! Ok! Stop! Stop!" Looking at the scene below, Harry shouted: "Put me down! Let's make a deal!"]
[Otto smiled slightly, picked up Harry, and put him on the ground. Harry stood up with lingering fear, looked at Otto and said: "Kill Spider-Man, and I will give you the tritium you want!"]
[Then Harry changed his words again: "No... I changed my mind, I want him alive!" Otto stared at Harry closely, "How can I find him?"]
[Harry took two breaths and said, "Peter Parker!" Otto asked in confusion, "Peter?"]
[Harry explained to Otto: "He took pictures of Spider-Man for the Daily Bugle, and he can tell you where Spider-Man is." Otto left immediately after hearing this and asked Harry to get everything ready.]
[Harry was worried that Otto would hurt Peter, so he chased after him and shouted at him, "Don't hurt Peter!"]
