Chapter 19: Yugao's new weapon
In the main control room of the SHIELD headquarters, Naori stood tall before a holographic screen displaying a live feed from Yugao's tactical glasses. She closely monitored every movement, her fingers rhythmically tapping the control desk—soft, yet calculated.
"You're too slow, Yugao. Don't linger too long. Assist Natasha and Barton in the eastern sector. Those ninjas are hindering our progress," Naori said coldly, her voice filled with authority.
"Understood, boss." Yugao's voice came through the communication line, followed by sharp imagery on the screen showing her perspective. She moved swiftly, cutting through the darkness of Brooklyn's underground tunnels.
As Naori was about to give further instructions, the door to the control room automatically slid open, revealing Nick Fury entering with a sharp gaze. His eyes scanned the room before settling on Naori.
"It seems you're enjoying this role, Naori," Fury said as he approached. "I hope you haven't forgotten that SHIELD granted you access to this operation."
Naori turned slowly, her expression unchanged. "And you think I've forgotten that? Don't worry, Director. I always appreciate those wise enough not to obstruct my plans."
Fury gave a faint smile but clearly wasn't entirely satisfied. Folding his arms, he stood beside Naori, his eyes fixed on the holographic screen. "So, let's discuss this partnership. You and the Kaguya Hime team were tasked with stopping The Hand's ritual. I'm sure you have your own thoughts about that."
Naori raised an eyebrow, a barely noticeable smirk forming at the corner of her lips. "My thoughts are simple. I agree to hinder their plans. But whatever they leave behind will be ours. That was the deal."
Fury frowned. "You know we can't let all the spoils fall into your hands just like that. If SHIELD doesn't get a share, this isn't a partnership."
Naori's lavender eyes glinted under the dim light of the room as she stared at him sharply. "I've been generous enough to take the risks in those underground tunnels. You want more? You'd better think again, Director."
Fury didn't flinch. "How about 70:30? You get 70 percent, we get 30. That's fairer."
Naori sighed, clearly displeased with the direction of the conversation, but she eventually nodded. "Fine. But only because I don't want to waste time arguing."
Fury nodded in satisfaction, though he clearly suspected Naori was withholding something. "Alright, now tell me what they're actually trying to achieve with this ritual."
Naori paused for a moment, her eyes returning to the screen. "They're trying to excavate something incredibly valuable. Dragon bones buried beneath New York. With those bones, they could create something far beyond ordinary weapons."
Fury narrowed his eyes. "Dragon bones? And what's their function?"
"Their energy is immense," Naori answered curtly, her tone deliberately vague. "More than enough to give them a significant advantage."
Fury noticed that Naori wasn't sharing the full story. "You sound like someone who knows more than you're letting on. What are you really planning to do with those bones?"
Naori smirked faintly, cryptically. "I just want to ensure they don't get them. Isn't that enough?"
Fury stepped closer, his gaze intense enough to make the air between them feel heavy. "How about we adjust the ratio to 60:40? I think SHIELD deserves a little more."
"No," Naori replied without hesitation. "The deal has been made. If you try to change it, I'll make sure this is our last collaboration."
Fury exhaled deeply, suppressing his frustration. "Alright. But if I find out you're hiding something that could jeopardize this operation..."
"You won't find out," Naori interrupted casually, turning her attention back to the screen. "Now, if you're done, I need to get back to monitoring my team."
Fury lingered for a moment, staring at her meaningfully before finally leaving the room. Outside, he muttered softly, "This woman is too dangerous to be left unchecked."
Inside the room, Naori smirked coldly. "You don't even know half of how dangerous I am, Fury," she said softly, more to herself.
Yugao stepped into a narrow corridor shrouded in shadows. Only the sounds of clashing weapons and heavy breaths could be heard, mingling with the metallic scent of spilled blood.
At the end of the corridor, Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton were locked in an intense battle against The Hand's ninjas. Natasha skillfully spun her electric batons, striking her opponents with precision, while Barton used the confined space to fire arrows effectively, despite being outnumbered.
Calmly, Yugao untied the scroll strapped to her waist. "Hmm, looks like you could use some help," she murmured casually. She formed a one-handed seal, and in an instant, the scroll emitted a puff of white smoke before transforming into a long black staff with golden ends. Pure vibranium, combined with chakra-absorbing sealing techniques. This weapon, which she named Enma, was Naori's latest creation, inspired by Hiruzen's summoning technique.
"Hey! Duck!" she shouted playfully, her voice cutting through the noise of the battle like a blade. Natasha and Barton exchanged glances before instinctively ducking.
Yugao twirled Enma with one hand, channeling chakra into it. The staff extended rapidly, striking enemies around her like a raging storm. "Haaa!" she yelled, spinning the staff like a massive fan. The Hand's ninjas were flung in all directions, crashing into walls or collapsing helplessly onto the floor.
When the chaos subsided, Natasha slowly stood up, her eyes wide as she surveyed the pile of defeated enemies. "What was that?" she asked, half in awe, half in disbelief.
"Enma," Yugao replied, resting the staff on her shoulder. "Made by our boss. Oh, and you two took way too long to handle enemies of this caliber." She smirked, winking playfully.
Clint raised an eyebrow, sliding an arrow back into his quiver. "Not all of us have magic staffs, you know."
Natasha added sarcastically, "Yeah, and not everyone has the strength to spin that thing around like a child's toy."
Yugao chuckled softly, then shrank Enma back to its normal size. "Don't be jealous. Now, how about we focus on the main task?"
"Good idea," Natasha said, wiping blood off her batons. "The ritual center is up ahead, but there are more ninjas there. And we don't know how many traps they've set up."
"The traps are your job, Barton," Yugao quipped. "I'll take care of the rest."
Clint sighed, preparing a specialized arrow. "Of course. I always get the fun jobs."
They began moving forward, traversing the increasingly dark corridor. The dim light from torches on the walls added an eerie atmosphere. Occasionally, the rapid footsteps of approaching Hand ninjas echoed. This time, however, with Yugao by their side, Natasha and Barton felt more confident.
As they neared the massive door leading to the ritual center, the sound of chants grew louder. A dark aura enveloped the room beyond, sending chills down their spines.
"Ready?" Natasha asked, steadying her breath.
"Always," Yugao replied, swinging Enma in her hand.
Clint tapped the tip of his arrow, readying a small explosion. "Let's finish this."
The three exchanged glances before pushing the massive door open together.
