Chapter 26: HULK
In the main conference room of SHIELD headquarters, the atmosphere was tense. Nick Fury, with his sharp single eye and unshakable demeanor, sat across the large table from Naori Hyuga, who looked relaxed as she toyed with her pipe.
"So, Director," Naori began with a casual yet cutting tone, "I thought after the last incident, SHIELD would prefer to stay as far away from us as possible."
Nick Fury stared at her impassively before replying calmly, "Quite the opposite. I've been keeping a closer watch. A group like Kaguya Hime, left unchecked, could become a threat I'd rather not imagine."
Naori chuckled softly, her smile sardonic yet charismatic. "Such a harsh accusation... But honestly, I prefer working with someone like you, Director. Always skeptical, always cautious. So, what's the topic of discussion this time?"
Fury retrieved a tablet from his pocket and tapped the screen. A video began playing on the holographic projection in the middle of the table.
"This is footage from our latest military operation," Fury said flatly. On the screen, a city was in chaos—destroyed tanks, crumbling buildings, and in the midst of it all, a massive green creature rampaging, demolishing everything in its path.
"Codenamed Hulk," Fury continued. "This target was initially a military mission, but he's now become a public safety threat. We need your help."
Naori leaned back in her chair, narrowing her eyes as she studied the footage. Gunfire, rockets, even tank cannons struck the creature without effect. Hulk growled, glaring at a nearby tank, then lifted it with one hand and hurled it like a toy toward the troops.
'Damn! What kind of monster is this?' Naori thought, her temple throbbing. 'Please, any god… even the god of death, don't tell me I'm about to fight aliens next!'
"May I smoke here?" she asked, breaking the silence. "Watching this is giving me a headache."
Fury pressed a button on the table, opening ventilation in the ceiling. "Go ahead."
Naori immediately lit her pipe, inhaling deeply before exhaling a cloud of white smoke. "What is this creature?" she finally asked.
"He was once an ordinary human," Fury replied. "A scientist named Bruce Banner. Banner was exposed to gamma radiation during a failed experiment, transforming him into the creature you see now—Hulk."
Naori frowned, taking another puff of her pipe. "So Bruce Banner and Hulk are the same person?"
Fury nodded. "Technically, yes. Banner is the human side, while Hulk is the manifestation of his rage and power. The angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes. That's why Hulk is almost invincible."
Naori closed her eyes, processing the information. 'So he's like a Jinchuriki,' she thought. 'A regular human hosting a monster inside him... If that's the case, this might not be so hard.'
"I don't think this creature is as dangerous as he seems," Naori said casually, prompting Fury to raise an eyebrow.
"Oh?" Fury looked at her skeptically. "Let's hear your approach."
Naori pressed a button on her wrist, projecting a 3D diagram of the human brain onto the table. "Hulk is a creature with a human brain, no matter how powerful his body is. His emotions, his rage, all stem from this nervous system," she said, pointing to a specific area on the diagram.
"Based on your agents' reports," Naori continued, "Hulk grows stronger with every attack he endures, correct? But I believe this is all due to emotional processes in his brain. If we can reverse this process—calming his rage instead of triggering it—we can weaken him."
Fury stared at Naori intently. "You seem experienced with creatures like this," he said at last.
Naori paused, her eyes flickering briefly. Memories surged in her mind—a battlefield filled with sand, the deafening roars of Bijuu, and the silhouettes of Shukaku and other Bijuu destroying everything in their path.
'Damn bald guy! You're reminding me of how terrifying Jinchuriki were on the battlefield,' she cursed internally.
After clearing her throat to compose herself, Naori spoke with confident resolve. "That's irrelevant. What matters is that handling Hulk isn't too difficult. Leave this to us."
She pulled a mission scroll from her pocket and handed it to Fury. Fury looked at the scroll with confusion. "Why are you still using scrolls?"
Naori smirked. "No special reason. I just want to honor my roots as a ninja. You know, many people suffer because they forget their past." She paused, staring at Fury with a sharp, mocking gaze. "Aren't you the perfect example, Director? I bet the 'King of Agents' like you might struggle against your field agents now."
Fury remained calm despite the pointed jab. "You might be right," he said, writing something on the scroll. "But I'll prove otherwise when the time comes."
Naori took the scroll back, read its details, and nodded. "Alright, leave this to Kaguya Hime. If you'd like, you can observe personally or send one of your trusted agents."
"I'll come myself," Fury said firmly.
Naori was momentarily surprised but quickly masked it with a small smile. "In that case, Director, we'll look forward to your presence."
Fury's sharp gaze met Naori's. His decision was more than just observation—he realized that staying behind a desk for too long had distanced him from field realities. It was time to return to his roots.
...
In the underground meeting room of Kaguya Hime, the atmosphere was both relaxed and full of intrigue. Naori Hyuga stood in front of a large screen displaying data from the USB flash drive recently provided by SHIELD. Beside her, the other Kaguya Hime members—Yugao, Shiro, and Yura—sat around the table with varied expressions. Yugao looked bored, Shiro was as serious as ever, and Yura was chewing candy while checking something on her phone.
Naori began the discussion with a firm tone. "So, this is all about the Hulk. The data mentions that Dr. Bruce Banner is a brilliant scientist who ended up creating… himself, the green monster we saw in that video."
"Classic," Yugao commented, resting her chin on her hand. "There's always a smart scientist who gets too confident and ends up ruining his own life. So, do we just knock him out until he's unconscious?"
The room fell silent. Shiro and Yura exchanged glances before turning to Yugao. Naori sighed deeply, closing her eyes for a moment before speaking. "Yugao, what's wrong with you lately? Did something go wrong during the cloning process? It feels like your brain is starting to lose some important parts."
Yugao glared. "Hey! I'm just trying to help! Besides, dealing with a monster like that is probably easier with a straightforward approach."
"Straightforward?" Shiro cut in, her tone icy. "Attacking a creature that gets stronger when it's angry is the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard. Plus, his regeneration will render all our efforts useless."
Yugao shrugged, looking unbothered. "Fine, then what's your brilliant idea, Shiro?"
Shiro tapped a few buttons on the table, bringing up a diagram of a weapon on the screen. "The LX-01 Energy Gun. It can produce a concentrated energy blast strong enough to immobilize a creature with high durability. I could modify it to increase its output."
Naori shook her head slightly, crossing her arms. "Hulk's regeneration is too fast. That weapon would only slow him down for a few seconds. We need a more effective solution."
Yura, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up. "What if we create a device that mimics the effects of Mugen Tsukuyomi?" she said casually, twirling her blonde hair. "We could calm Hulk down by placing him in a genjutsu, making his mind see whatever we want it to. A kind of illusionary world where he feels safe, peaceful, and has no reason to get angry."
All heads turned to Yura. Yugao even dropped her jaw dramatically. "Wait, did I hear that right? That idea… actually makes sense."
"What's wrong if it makes sense?" Yura retorted, annoyed. "You think just because I mimic abilities from Naruto, I can't think logically?"
Naori gave a small smile, while Shiro seemed to suppress a laugh. "That's not it, Yura," Naori said, glancing at her. "We're just surprised because you usually offer ideas that… are more impulsive."
"I can give good ideas when I want to!" Yura crossed her arms, her face flushing with irritation.
Shiro finally let out a small chuckle. "The idea is actually a good one, Naori. If we can create a device strong enough to project such an illusion, we can control the Hulk without engaging him directly."
Naori nodded. "I agree. Yura, this time your idea is truly brilliant." She smiled meaningfully. "Alright, we'll go with that idea. I'll start working in the lab to create the device. Shiro, I'll need your help to redesign the system so it can work on a creature as large as Hulk."
"Of course," Shiro replied curtly.
Naori then turned to Yugao. "And you… Get out. Don't cause any trouble here."
"What?! Why do I have to leave? I can help in the lab," Yugao protested.
"No," Naori said firmly. "Every time you try to help in the lab, you end up breaking more things than you fix. Go play video games or whatever it is you do."
Yugao huffed in annoyance but eventually stood up. "Fine, I'll go play PS3 at home. At least I know that won't blow up this place."
As Yugao left, Yura stood up and stretched. "Well, I'm heading out too. I'm stopping by Tony Stark's place to check on his latest suit developments. He's bound to have something interesting."
Naori raised an eyebrow. "Tony Stark? Since when are you on good terms with him?"
"Since the art exhibit in Manhattan," Yura replied with a broad smile. "We exchanged ideas. He may be arrogant, but I have to admit, he's a genius."
Naori simply shook her head with a small smile. "Alright, go. But don't forget to return on time."
"Got it, boss!" Yura replied, waving her hand as she left.
When only Naori and Shiro were left in the room, Naori let out a long sigh. "Sometimes, I feel more like a babysitter than a team leader."
Shiro gave a faint smile. "At least they're all unique. That's what makes this team anything but boring."
Naori gave a small smile. "True enough. Let's get to work. Time is not on our side."
With that, Naori and Shiro headed to their lab, ready to create a device capable of controlling the green monster that had become such a major threat. Elsewhere, Yugao began livestreaming her gameplay, while Yura made her way to Stark Tower, ready to leverage her brilliance for the team's grand plan.
