Chapter 7: Adam, The Phoenix Host
Firehair's mental world was engulfed with flames. Adam used his telepathy to search around. After looking around, he found Firehair's ego huddled up in one part of the mindscape.
Adam traversed the mindscape and reached where Firehair was and started communicating.
"Firehair, wake up. You haven't told me what happened to Highwalker," said Adam.
Firehair, who was curled up, lifted her head and looked at Adam. The moment their eyes met, Adam saw memories of what transpired while he was holding back the Xeno tribes.
While Adam went to hold back the attacking tribes after instructing Firehair to inform Highwalker and others of the attack, another group of the Xeno tribes attacked the cave where the Tribe of No Fear lived.
He saw in the memories both tribes standoff, Highwalker pacifying the attackers to no avail. He also saw the awakening of her budding powers as she could telepathically feel all the hate and anger the tribe of attackers held towards them.
All the hate overwhelmed Firehair's mind. Highwalker, who saw this, tried helping Firehair regain her control. That's when disaster struck. Highwalker, who was distracted, was impaled by a flying weapon.
Seeing their leader injured, the Tribe of No Fear went into a frenzy and started killing the attacking tribes. Firehair could feel the deaths of her comrades before long all the attackers and members of the Tribe of No Fear were lying dead in a pool of blood.
Memories flashed by as Adam realized what happened. Along with memories of what happened at the cave, he saw memories of Firehair in the mindscape trying to kill herself before she met Adam in the burnt place.
Adam realized how much Firehair suffered. He tried talking to her again, but her consciousness was in a suspended state, and any communication was futile.
He realized that with each passing moment, hate was drowning Firehair's mindscape, which turned into a wrathful rage that sought destruction. He knew if this continued, it would be hard to wake Firehair.
So Adam looked for a solution. He scoured Firehair's mental landscape with his near-omega-level telepathic abilities. In the end, he detected a primordial power deep in Firehair's psyche.
Adam had no other option but to confront whatever lay in the depths of Firehair's mind. Adam traveled to the shadows of her mind, where he caught glimpses of Firehair's memories growing up: her pack of wolves that rescued her when she was abandoned at birth, surviving in the forest with the pack, and all the memories up until Highwalker died.
After a lot of difficulty, Adam saw the power that was hidden in Firehair. In the depths of the subconscious dwelled a bird burning with the cosmic fires of rebirth.
"What are you? Why are you inside Firehair's mind? Stop the destruction you are causing," relayed Adam telepathically to the burning bird.
But there was no reply from the bird. Adam tried different ways to communicate with the creature, but the result was failure. Adam, in a futile attempt, tried to touch the bird with telepathic hands.
The moment Adam came in contact with the bird, everything broke. He was kicked out of Firehair's mindscape, but that was not all that happened. The bird that was in Firehair's mind was now in his too.
He looked at the bird that was floating in the void of his mind. The entrance of the bird resulted in changes out in the material world. Adam went through the same changes as Firehair as his body floated in the air with the same cosmic flames as Firehair burning around him.
He could feel the power he gained from the burning bird. He could feel the Phoenix, and he promptly controlled the flames that were coming from Firehair, putting out the flames that engulfed the whole burnt place.
Adam, with his newly enhanced telepathy of omega level, re-established his communication with Firehair and successfully woke her up from unconsciousness. Firehair saw Adam's new body the moment she opened her eyes, which she didn't recognize.
"Firehair, it's me, Adam," said Adam with fire around his body, covering his naked body.
Even though Firehair didn't recognize his face, she still remembered his voice and jumped into his embrace as she cried.
"Dead, everyone's dead. Highwalker died because of me. If I could control my powers, he would not have died," said Firehair, bawling.
"It's okay. Everything will be fine. I'm there for you," said Adam, comforting Firehair.
Adam lifted himself and Firehair into the air with his newly gained telekinetic power and flew towards the cave of the Tribe of No Fear. Both of them floated down to where the bodies of Highwalker, other members of the tribe, and the attackers were present.
"Let's send them away, hoping that they will be reborn again," said Adam to Firehair while summoning his cosmic fire. Before he set the corpses in a funeral pyre, he detected a tiny life force from one of the bodies.
After searching for the source of the tiny life force, he identified it as belonging to Highwalker. The flames in Adam's hands went out as he placed his hand on Highwalker's body in a hurry.
After contact, he felt his pulse, which was still beating. Not only that, Adam could also see his genetic makeup. He used his Mummudrai powers to stitch back the wound after taking out the weapon that punctured him. The wound healed back, but Highwalker was still unconscious with weak breath.
He could feel that Highwalker's pulse was unstable. It was a miracle that he had survived until now. That's when his Phoenix powers came to the rescue. He recognized the control he held over life force while healing Highwalker.
So Adam drained the life force of the nearby plant life and injected it into Highwalker's body. After this procedure, Highwalker's vitals stabilized. Firehair, who was seeing all of this happen in front of her eyes in a couple of minutes, was surprised that Highwalker was alive. She cried in joy as she hugged Highwalker, who was akin to a father figure for her.
Meanwhile, Adam was distracted by the information that was in his mind. Every time he came in contact with someone's physical body, Adam could read and replicate their DNA, but the moment he lost contact, he would forget the genetic makeup, losing his ability to replicate a body.
But now, due to his omega-level psionic abilities, he still remembered the whole genetic makeup of Highwalker even though he was not in contact with his physical body.
