Chapter 97: Ch.97 Spatial Web, Ancient One's Prophecy
He was in the middle of speaking when Charlie suddenly joined the battle, shooting a web to bind Horned Loki's legs.
"What?!"
Horned Loki looked bewildered, and before he could react, he was repeatedly smashed into the ground with several tons of force.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"No!! Stop it..."
As debris flew around, Charlie casually tossed the defeated Horned Loki into a pit.
"Confirmed, he's not a clone."
"Got it."
Old Man Steve lunged in, locking Horned Loki's throat with his elbow.
"Relax, it's normal to feel like you're suffocating," he comforted.
Loki's face turned red as he struggled against Steve, "Mother—"
"You shouldn't learn from Nick. It's not good."
Buzz~
Next moment, the Space Stone began to flicker as Norman and Dr. Curt tried to destroy the portal device.
As the glow of the Space Stone dimmed, the giant portal in the sky also began to slowly close.
Just before the space portal was about to close, Tuxedo Loki guided the nuke towards the shrinking portal.
Boom.
They all watched as the nuke flew into the portal, which then closed completely, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's over." Nick Fury wiped the sweat from his forehead and collapsed into his chair.
Tuxedo Loki returned to the rooftop of Stark Tower.
"I did it."
"I'm almost done too."
Old Man Steve gritted his teeth while trying to choke Horned Loki. "Damn it, this guy just won't pass out."
Seeing Horned Loki still struggling, Tuxedo Loki looked uneasy.
Watching himself die was definitely a strange experience.
He understood that at this point in time, his past self couldn't be reformed. This was the only option.
"We're gods, we're resilient, mortals can't easily kill us," Tuxedo Loki explained.
"I'm trying," Old Man Steve replied, tightening his grip.
"Keep it up."
Tuxedo Loki said, then walked over to Charlie.
"I'm curious, why did Stark follow the nuke into the space portal?" he asked in confusion.
Having personally experienced the feeling of being a savior, Tuxedo Loki's memory became increasingly vivid.
Charlie looked up at the calm sky. "The space portal was about to close, the nuke was too slow, and if Tony hadn't used his suit to boost its speed, it would've been too late."
"I see. I guess his suit failed at that time."
Tuxedo Loki smiled slightly. "I'm glad I lost to him."
"You once won a resurrection tournament. What happens after the mission is completed?" he asked.
"You'll see a prompt saying the mission was successful."
"But I haven't seen anything." Tuxedo Loki frowned.
"Maybe because the tournament isn't over yet!" Charlie replied absentmindedly.
Everything had gone too smoothly, and it made him uneasy.
If winning a resurrection slot was this easy, then all the restarts had been a waste.
Something felt wrong.
Sure enough, the next moment, his Spider-Sense went off like crazy, but Charlie couldn't see where the danger was.
"Look over there! What's that?"
Old Man Steve shouted, pointing to the direction where the space portal had vanished, where a familiar dark portal appeared.
Soon after, the nuke that had been sent into space shot back out.
"What?!"
Everyone who saw this was horrified.
Charlie understood Dark Stephen's goal in that instant.
What this guy wanted was never just one resurrection slot.
He wanted them all!
The thought crossed his mind just as blinding white light engulfed everyone. The entire city was covered in the overwhelming destructive power of the ultimate weapon.
...

Restart!
Eighth Resurrection Tournament.
At the transmission tower in the dark, Charlie experienced the changes in his web proteins.
By now, he had gathered all the colorful variations of the web skins.
He was sure this time it wouldn't be just rainbow-colored black!
Swoosh!
Raising his hand, he fired his web, and the white web shot into the empty night, fixing itself in place.
Charlie: "????"
He tentatively pulled, discovering that the web had securely latched onto empty space.
Unbelievable!
Spatial web?
Charlie felt surprised and delighted—this thing was absurd.
He liked it.
He then leaped forward.
Whoosh~
With the wind roaring in his ears, Charlie shot web after web into the void, swinging through the sky.
Before long, webs crisscrossed the night sky, ignoring the laws of physics as they clung to the empty space. Charlie lay on a hammock made of webs, enjoying a sense of novelty he'd never felt before.
Oh right, almost forgot about business.
He sat up from the web hammock and then dove towards the Hamlet Street Theatre.
The spatial web allowed him to freely swing without being constrained by his surroundings. While falling from the high altitude, he occasionally shot webs to prevent himself from turning into a puddle from the speed.
After that, it was all the usual repetitive stuff, and Charlie was becoming numb to it.
He spent the whole night staying away from Stark Tower with his crew, avoiding being taken down in one go by Dark Stephen.
The next day, he brought everyone to Stark Tower just in time.
"Hey Spidey, look! The portal is opening!"
Old Man Steve pointed at the giant portal rapidly expanding in the sky above the city.
Seeing a shadow quickly disappearing into the portal, he shouted, "Someone's gone in!"
Charlie nodded slightly. "Proceed as planned."
"Understood."
Dark Stephen had already gone through the portal, so there was no reason to hold back anymore.
They quickly arrived at the rooftop of Stark Tower. After dealing with Horned Loki, Charlie got the Tesseract.
As the giant portal in the sky slowly closed, Charlie threw the Tesseract to Tuxedo Loki.
"Go to Kamar-Taj and get the Ancient One."
"Alright, I'll be back."
Tuxedo Loki vanished into a small portal with the Tesseract. Old Man Steve felt uneasy.
"Spidey, will the Ancient One really help us?"
"Of course."
Charlie smiled. "Only magic can defeat magic. Besides the Ancient One, I can't think of anyone else who can take that guy down."
He suspected that Dark Stephen had let Loki open the space portal so he could use it to go to the Chitauri base and kill their soldiers for a resurrection slot.
Without specific coordinates, Dark Stephen would have had a hard time locating the Chitauri in the vastness of space, and Loki was the key to making his plan work.
The nuke, on the other hand, would wipe out both contestants and the Avengers, earning him two more resurrection slots.
Dark Stephen had calculated everything perfectly.
He might even be planning to kill Thanos, gaining a fourth resurrection slot.
But what Charlie couldn't figure out was why Dark Stephen had to kill Tony and Steve in advance.
As he thought about this, a small portal opened, and Tuxedo Loki emerged.
"What happened, didn't they agree?"
Seeing Loki alone, Old Man Steve felt uneasy.
"No, they're here."
As soon as Loki spoke, golden sparks began to flicker all around them.
From the golden portals, the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj stepped out.
"Hello, I'm Wong, a disciple of the Ancient One."
The portly sorcerer in his purple-red robes introduced himself. Charlie nodded slightly.
"I'm Charlie Parker. Why didn't the Ancient One come?" He had a bad feeling.
Upon hearing this, the sorcerers' faces turned somber.
"The Ancient One was killed in battle with the Dark Sorcerer." Wong looked sorrowful, ending with a sigh.
"What?!"
Charlie held his head, feeling helpless. Without the Ancient One, Dark Stephen was unbeatable.
"When did this happen?"
"Last night, in a warehouse near New York. She died at the hands of the Dark Sorcerer while trying to save Tony Stark," Wong explained.
"Warehouse?"
Charlie raised an eyebrow, remembering something.
After one of the restarts, he had passed by the warehouse where Tony and Steve fought and noticed traces of dark magic.
Dark Stephen didn't need dimensional magic to deal with Tony and Steve, so was the Ancient One fighting him back then?
He suddenly felt like he had missed everything.
If only he had stayed a few more minutes, maybe the Ancient One would have arrived and saved him.
But no, even the Ancient One couldn't defeat Dark Stephen. She wouldn't have been able to save him.
However, from Wong's words, Charlie realized something crucial.
"Why did the Ancient One save Tony?" he asked.
Wong hesitated before replying, "The Ancient One foresaw the appearance of the Dark Sorcerer at this time.
In her prophecy, only Tony Stark could defeat that guy."
Hearing this, Charlie frowned.
He didn't doubt the so-called prophecy.
If the Ancient One could predict that Tony was the key, then Dark Stephen likely could too.
So his target was Tony. Killing Steve was just a bonus.
All mysteries had been solved.
However, Old Man Steve didn't believe it. "Tony is dead. How can he end Dark Stephen?" he asked.
Wong shook his head. "I don't know the secret."
Hearing this, the room fell silent.
"Oh no, look!"
Tuxedo Loki was the first to break the silence.
He pointed at the firelight rushing from the sky, his face grim.
"The portal has been closed for a while. Why would they still decide to use such a weapon? It doesn't make sense."
Charlie had expected this. "This is the only way it makes sense. If the nuke wasn't part of Dark Stephen's plan, then he wouldn't be able to complete both tasks at once."
"Dark Stephen set all this up?"
Old Man Steve felt utterly powerless.
A Dark Sorcerer who uses tech weapons—that was truly despair-inducing.
"Tuxedo Loki, can you take this thing to a deserted desert?" Charlie asked.
Loki hesitated. "I think sending it directly to the Chitauri ship in outer space and taking out that guy would be a better choice."
"If you want him to send it back here again, then I take back what I said."
"Sorry, I forgot he's also a sorcerer."
Immediately, Tuxedo Loki flew towards the nuke on the Goblin Glider, using the Tesseract to move it to a desert on the other side of Earth.
Soon, Loki returned to the rooftop.
"It's done."
He was silent for a while before saying, "Now there are only two slots left. How do we divide them?"
"I'm glad you brought that up."
Charlie shrugged. "You and the old man can have them. Don't worry about me."
Seeing Charlie willingly give it up, Loki was moved.
Is this the kind of selflessness superheroes have?
Damn, I'm actually touched.
Old Man Steve, on the other hand, was excited. "No, you need this slot more than I do. Giving it to me would be a waste."
The surrounding sorcerers looked puzzled.
"Are you talking about concert tickets?"
Wong leaned in to whisper to Charlie, "I've never been to one. Could I have a slot?"
Charlie looked at him strangely. "Isn't this inappropriate? The Ancient One just passed, and you want to go have fun?"
"That's why I'm asking you secretly."
Charlie: "..."
After that, he stopped struggling.
With both the Ancient One and Tony, the key figure in the prophecy, gone, there was no hope for this round.
In fact, getting a resurrection slot in this tournament wouldn't have been difficult for Charlie.
But with the emergence of Symbiote Tony and Thanos, he realized that having two resurrection tournaments in the same multiverse was no coincidence.
In future tournaments, he'd likely face terrifying opponents again.
Even with the ability to restart, the odds of winning alone were still low.
So reliable teammates were necessary.
Symbiote Tony and Thanos were additional help; he couldn't let them die at the hands of Dark Stephen.
If he came back to this world for another tournament, the "connections" he accumulated would greatly increase his chances of winning.
At that moment, Charlie seemed to understand something.
Damn, he's getting better and better.
...

[Remaining restarts: 11. Restart?]
Restart!
Ninth Resurrection Tournament.
Everything was almost ready, and Charlie believed this would be the last restart.
He leaped off the building, shooting his web into the void, and his red and blue figure swung swiftly towards Hamlet Street.
Soon, he successfully snatched the scepter from Horned Loki and headed for the cliff in the countryside before Tuxedo Loki appeared.
Boom!!
Before long, thunder rolled in the night sky, and the legendary Thor descended.
"Loki, you are my brother. Why did you deceive me?!"
Thor roared as he landed, and Horned Loki emerged from the darkness.
"I've already learned the truth. We're not even blood-related."
"No, it's not true. Come back with me and apologize to Father. He will forgive you."
"Alright, but you're coming with me, not the other way around."
Horned Loki glanced behind him and gave a strange smile, the Tesseract in his hand glowing brightly.
Buzz~
In an instant, a small portal swallowed Thor, and Charlie followed him through it.
Loki had already noticed him. It was deliberate.
It was deliberate for Charlie too.
"Hahaha, welcome to my world!"
On the barren planet, Horned Loki laughed triumphantly, summoning the endless Chitauri army with a wave of his hand.
"Loki, you deceived me again!"
Thor raged, lifting his hammer as raging thunder blasted through the Chitauri army.
Meanwhile, Charlie made his way towards an elegant figure in the crowd.
"I surrender," he said to Ebony Maw.
Ebony Maw: "..."
