Marvel : Super Soldier at the Start

Chapter 176: Plane Crash

It's clear that Tony really likes Spider-Man.

In previous movies, not much attention was given to Spider-Man's personal background—just borrowing the usual family setup from the earlier Spider-Man universe.

However, in this alternate world where Blake traverses, Spider-Man's parents passed away in an accident when he was only two years old.

Additionally, Aunt May's husband, his uncle, also passed away due to illness when Spider-Man was very young.

With such a backstory, it's a classic protagonist setup.

Not to mention, after gaining Tony's favor through the competition, Spider-Man not only received funding for all his future school expenses but was also invited to visit Tony's lab at the Sky Base.

Tony even let Spider-Man share his wild and imaginative ideas for suit designs.

He also took Spider-Man around to find Captain America, Natasha, and others for group photos.

All in all, the things they did today would give Spider-Man enough bragging material to last until college graduation.

While Spider-Man was having the time of his life at the Sky Base, something strange was happening at New York Airport.

A passenger plane was taking off.

Unlike typical planes, this aircraft climbed directly to over 10,000 meters just after takeoff, circling several times over New York before speeding toward the Atlantic.

Oddly, however, on the control tower's radar, this super-large Airbus A380 commercial jet was still cruising westward at 4,000 meters, climbing slowly.

Generally, flight altitudes are strictly regulated. Short-haul flights usually cruise at altitudes of 7,000–9,600 meters, and long-haul flights at 8,000–12,600 meters.

Only a few business jets exceed these heights, but even then, they rarely exceed 15,000 meters.

Since the Wakanda battle, the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the publicized rescue of the president, the Avengers' reputation has now surpassed most of the world's governments.

Thus, Blake directly positioned the Sky Base near New York's coastline, hovering at about 10,000 meters above sea level.

The U.S. government turned a blind eye to this.

Although it was near New York, planes climbing to this altitude usually were far from the city. Moreover, there were no major north-south flight routes in the area.

So, the Sky Base's location posed no conflict with civilian flight paths.

For safety, the Sky Base's position was registered with the aviation authority and the military, making collisions with planes almost impossible.

But today, something bizarre happened. The radar showed the A380, supposedly flying over the Atlantic, now cruising just 100 meters above the Sky Base, still within New York City's airspace.

The aircraft's radar also indicated it was less than a few kilometers from the Sky Base.

In the cockpit, the co-pilot was slumped back with his head tilted, his headset askew. If not for the slight rise and fall of his chest, he would have looked like a corpse.

The captain glanced at the radar, where the obstacle's position was marked, then removed his headset and picked up a satellite phone to make a call.

"I've reached the designated location. I hope you'll keep your promise."

"Relax. You've already received the deposit, haven't you? The rest will be paid to your family as a massive insurance payout. Moreover, a listed company will cover your children's education costs from now through college under the guise of charity. If they don't stray from the plan, this money will let your wife and children live comfortably for the rest of their lives," came a cold voice on the other end of the line.

The captain didn't respond further. He glanced at the unconscious co-pilot beside him, then looked toward the rear of the plane, sighing softly.

He muttered, "I'm sorry," under his breath.

Then, with a determined look at the radar showing the Avengers' base just ahead, he gritted his teeth and sharply nosed the plane downward, heading straight for the base.

As a former Red Room base ruthlessly modified by Tony Stark, the Sky Base naturally had its own radar system.

But today, the plane was only detected by the base's radar when it came within one kilometer.

"An A380 passenger plane detected! It's rapidly approaching us from above on the east side!"

"It's 927 meters away and still accelerating!"

"Activate defensive measures immediately! Base on high alert!"

If the first report from J.A.R.V.I.S. had left everyone calm, the second line threw the entire team into stunned confusion.

"900 meters? Impossible!"

Everyone froze for a moment, but as J.A.R.V.I.S. delivered the third message, almost simultaneously, their expressions changed drastically.

"Damn it! Run!"

Someone shouted loudly.

In the central hall, the Avengers moved almost in unison.

Blake darted straight to Natasha's side.

Tony immediately signaled to summon his suit.

Meanwhile, Captain America and Thor rushed toward Spider-Man from opposite directions.

Unfortunately, aside from Blake and Natasha, who were relatively close to each other, most others had only just started moving.

*Boom!*

A massive tremor rocked the entire base.

A large passenger plane crashed directly into the central pillar of the Sky Base from above, wedging itself between two turbine blades.

The aircraft's fuselage, parallel to the lower set of blades, smashed into the central pillar before slamming heavily against one of the lower turbine blades.

The massive aircraft, combined with the gravitational force from the height of several hundred meters, broke through part of the lower turbine blade. The entire fuselage disintegrated into wreckage as it scraped and shattered against the base's outer structure.

The Avengers were positioned in the upper section of the central column above the second-tier blades.

The massive metal column, a composite of titanium-gold alloy and vibranium reinforced by Tony, sustained a massive dent from the impact.

Fortunately, thanks to Tony's modifications, the column—serving as the Sky Base's core—prevented irreparable damage, though the dent was enormous.

While the damage wasn't critical, the base was pushed off its original position by over a kilometer.

In the central hall, where everyone was located, the tremor was so severe that even Blake struggled to keep his balance.

Just as they steadied themselves, another deafening explosion erupted from below.

The plane's fuselage had exploded on top of the base.

Blake shielded Natasha with his body, slamming into the metal door of the hall.

Dr. Banner, along with Hawkeye and Falcon, who had been chatting on a sofa, clung tightly to it as the violent impact threw all three off the furniture. Despite the crash, none of them appeared seriously injured—Banner hadn't even started to transform.

Tony, Captain America, and the others were also shaken up badly but escaped without major injuries.

Most of the furniture was securely bolted to the ground, and aside from a toppled wooden bookshelf, the hall suffered minimal damage.

The bookshelf…

"Damn it! Peter!"

It was Tony who shouted, but the first to rush toward the bookshelf was Captain America, who was closest.

The bookshelf was over three meters tall, made of solid wood and packed with books. If an eleven-year-old child was trapped underneath…

As Tony's cry rang out, everyone felt their hearts leap into their throats.

But just as Captain America reached the bookshelf and bent down to lift it, the bookshelf began to rise on its own.

Beneath it, a small, delicate hand was visible!
