Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A Desperate Breakout
As the alarm bell echoed across Asgard, far away in the fiery realm—one of the Nine Realms—Odin, the All-Father, and Hela, the Goddess of Death, were locked in a fierce battle against endless flame creatures. At that moment, both of them paused simultaneously, a sharp gleam flashing in their eyes as they exchanged glances.
"Boom!"
A surge of terrifying death energy erupted from Hela, instantly coalescing into countless lethal swords that obliterated the surrounding flame creatures.
Meanwhile, Odin's divine weapon, the Spear of Judgment, radiated powerful runic energy. With a mighty swing, he tore through the fabric of space, opening a portal that carried the unmistakable aura of Asgard.
"It's up to you now, Hela," Odin commanded firmly.
Hela nodded, her lithe form ascending gracefully as she entered the portal created by Odin's runic power, heading straight for Asgard.
"Odin, you will be reduced to ashes by the Eternal Flame!"
A thunderous roar reverberated through the fiery realm as its towering ruler, cloaked in the Eternal Flame and wielding the Twilight Sword, unleashed a ferocious assault on Odin.
Unaware of the unfolding events, Johnny had just plunged into the unknown portal of the Rainbow Bridge. At the same time, Hela's figure materialized on the bridge.
Hela's form was both regal and lethal. Her icy gaze swept over the scene, landing on the still-warm corpse of the gatekeeper.
"Hmph! Such audacity—to infiltrate Asgard and kill one of our warriors. Even if you flee to the farthest corner of the universe, you cannot escape the shadow of death!"
Sensing the faint remnants of energy from the portal, Hela's voice was cold and resolute. The death energy around her rippled, forming countless razor-sharp swords that, guided by her will, shot into the teleportation pathway.
As Odin's eldest heir, Hela possessed immense power and authority, decisive in both thought and action. Her decision was swift: to eliminate Johnny within the confines of the portal before his escape was complete.
Inside the chaotic and multicolored space of the portal, Johnny found himself surrounded by shifting, prismatic light. Faint, illusory images flickered past like fleeting memories, incomprehensible to the eye.
Just as Johnny began to feel a sliver of relief, an overwhelming sense of dread surged through him, causing every hair on his body to stand on end.
Hela's lethal attack had already locked onto him, tracing the energy trail of the teleportation beam.
The icy, suffocating blades forged from death energy rapidly closed in on Johnny from behind. If not for his acute danger sense and swift reflexes, he would have been shredded into pieces before the portal completed its transit.
At that moment, Johnny faced the ultimate threat of death. Yet, under the crushing pressure, his mind became unusually sharp.
Was this it? Had he crossed into this world only to die before even beginning to rise?
No! Absolutely not!
A primal roar echoed in Johnny's heart, a refusal to succumb to his fate.
"Specter!"
Johnny shouted, summoning his undead spirit. The spectral entity materialized instantly, placing itself between Johnny and the incoming barrage of blades. Without hesitation, it launched itself toward the onslaught of death-infused swords.
Johnny gripped the Asgardian warrior's shield tightly, curling his body as much as possible to stay hidden behind its protective surface.
"Slash!"
The sound of countless blades piercing flesh echoed through the strange teleportation space. Johnny's summoned undead specter, having absorbed significant power from devoured foes, was formidable. However, it was no match for the razor-sharp blades forged from Hela's death energy. The specter's body was quickly shredded, barely slowing the assault.
A blade pierced through the mummy-like head of the specter, completely destroying it. Its broken form dissipated into scattered energy.
As the specter vanished, Johnny felt the severance of their connection. All his strength surged into his arms, bracing the shield with everything he had.
The relentless sound of "clang, clang" filled the space as the blades struck the shield. The immense force reverberated through the shield, nearly wrenching it from Johnny's grasp.
The shield was sturdy, crafted from Asgard's unique metals, but its size was insufficient to cover Johnny's entire body. Several blades slipped through the gaps, slashing his exposed flesh.
Blood splattered.
The blades, undeterred by their collision with Johnny's body, continued their trajectory, tearing into the edges of the teleportation beam and vanishing into the void beyond.
In mere moments, Johnny's body bore numerous slashes. The searing pain was excruciating, his clothes soaked with blood. Yet, despite the injuries, none of them were fatal.
The shield in Johnny's hands vibrated violently. Even the Asgardian-crafted shield began to show signs of breaking under the relentless assault. Meanwhile, the torrent of deadly blades showed no sign of abating.
Johnny's mind raced as he braced himself, determination flashing in his eyes.
"Looks like I'll have to gamble everything once more!"
With resolve, Johnny pressed his body tightly against the edge of the teleportation beam. Several blades grazed him, cutting deep gashes before striking the beam's surface. The blades punctured the energy barrier, creating a small fissure.
The fissure was narrow, but just large enough for Johnny to squeeze through.
Grasping the opportunity, Johnny twisted his body, forcing himself into the violent, chaotic tear in the energy.
"If I survive this… Hela, I'll make sure you feel every ounce of this pain!"
From the dazzling light of the teleportation space to the cold, silent void of an unknown realm, Johnny's vision faded to black. His final thought flickered before he succumbed to unconsciousness.
"Hmph."
Sensing that the intruder's presence in the teleportation beam had disappeared, Hela snorted coldly. The vast death energy around her slowly dissipated, along with her oppressive aura.
"Such audacity. Facing certain death, he chose to abandon the teleportation beam and enter the void. While his chances of survival are near zero, he's managed to delay his demise slightly."
Hela murmured as she turned the Spear of Judgment in her hands, sealing the Rainbow Bridge.
From the moment Hela had been sent back to Asgard by Odin, to her pursuit of Johnny, and Johnny's desperate gamble to escape through the fissure, only ten breaths had passed.
As the Rainbow Bridge closed, the Asgardian warriors who had been rushing to the scene finally arrived before Hela.
Seeing the Goddess of Death herself, summoned back to Asgard by the alarm, her icy demeanor sent shivers through the hearts of the soldiers. Their expressions betrayed a mix of awe and fear.
