Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Accidental Swipe _1
"Sir, our store is about to close," the service girl reminded him with a sweet smile.
Feng Yi was startled, then shook his head vigorously to regain his focus. After paying, he hurriedly left.
By this point, night had completely fallen. When he stepped into the brightly lit Martial Arts Hall, a sense of unease and relief inexplicably welled up within him. He hadn't had a good night's sleep in years. Overcome by sudden weariness, he barely had time to undress and crawl into bed before falling fast asleep. Feng Yi didn't notice the silent Virtual Combat Machine standing in the corner of his room.
That night, he was dreamless…
The next day, Feng Yi woke up, or rather, was startled awake by the bright sunshine streaming through the gauze curtains. He had completely forgotten his morning cleaning duties. Throwing on his clothes, he rushed to sweep the entire Martial Arts Hall clean, to the surprise of many onlookers. Despite breaking his usual habits, Feng Yi never neglected his training.
From their position in the hall, the other disciples could not see how fast he was running, his agile figure zipping around like a gust of wind or a flash of lightning. Only after half an hour, with Feng Yi out of breath and sweating, did he slow down his pace.
To reacquaint himself with his sharp reflexes, he hadn't even had time for breakfast. Eating would only impede his training. Now, the dining hall had already restricted access to irrelevant personnel. With a resigned sigh, Feng Yi had to accept this unjust treatment from the gods.
Determined to turn over a new leaf, Feng Yi, an ambitious and energetic young man, decided to change his living habits. After some thought, he reluctantly reached into his thin wallet, and decided to spend his leftover money from his time at Prison Planet on an alarm clock. But, upon reaching the supermarket, he was shocked to find that he was one zero short. How could alarm clock devices so common on other planets be so outrageously expensive on Alpha?
As a matter of fact, Alpha's rotation differs from other Earth-like planets. Located a great distance from a red giant star, Alpha is not only gloomy and cold but also has a tilted axis of rotation. The planet relies on man-made suns for light conversion. Interference from black hole magnetic wave fields requires many electronic devices to be equipped with an intelligent correction item known as a Time Crystal. This is the real reason for the astronomical prices.
Of course, Feng Yi didn't practice the habit of searching for "four-dimensional crystal" on search engines. His hard life was only just beginning. Basking in the warm sunshine, he heard the people in the Martial Arts Hall erupt in laughter. He knew it was lunchtime.
Deciding he deserved a reward, Feng Yi hurriedly rushed to the dining hall. After his identity was scanned, one of the nearest autonomous robots asked Feng Yi to insert his magnetic card. He knew this much, but when he inserted the card, he was caught off guard by the robot's message: "Sir, please press your number or press zero."
"What?"
"Sir, please press your number or press zero."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Sir, please press your number or press zero," the emotionless electronic voice still replied.
Damn it, at least tell me what you mean! These so-called intelligent robots are clearly not smarter than him. With no other options, Feng Yi decided to press zero. Unfortunately, he sneezed and slipped, inadvertently pressing the 8 key to confirm.
"Approved."
By the time his meal tray popped out, Feng Yi had already guessed why the robot didn't answer his apparently stupid question that everyone on Alpha knew. He had accidentally taken someone else's meal tray, but most importantly, that scamming old Chief had given him a universal magnetic card.
More and more people began to gather in the dining hall... Feng Yi, feeling awkward, was contemplating how to return the tray, but the droids were now swamped with people.
As time went on, the crowd grew larger and the dining hall filled with the boisterous chatter of men and the clamor of women.
Damn it, this was embarrassing. But once you play the game, you have to pay the piper. "Who does this belong to? I accidentally picked the wrong one," Feng Yi announced, picking up the meal set and feeling embarrassed about his carelessness.
All the bystanders were taken aback. Even after an identity scan, he had taken the wrong food tray? But no one responded.
Feng Yi was mortified! To hell with it, he thought. He couldn't worry too much about it now. Since no one claimed it, he might as well just accept his mistake and move on.
After ordering, he began to eat ravenously.
Before long, the appearance of two beautiful figures silenced the previously raucous crowd. Feng Yi paused as he ate, wondering if the sophisticated meal set he accidentally picked up belonged to these two girls.
These two girls were famous figures in the Martial Arts Hall. Their high status became apparent as everyone parted to let them pass.
The taller girl named Sheng Qiangwei stood at approximately 170 centimeters. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also incredibly powerful and gathered quite a following of unique fans. She was undoubtedly a star figure in the Martial Arts Hall. Her presence drew the attention of countless men, but due to her untouchable nature, she was admired from afar.
As for the slightly shorter, quieter girl, she was considered by everyone as a healing type of goddess. Her reputation was just as high, if not higher, than Sheng Qiangwei's. Her name was Emily, who never refused anyone anything. No one would dare to request anything from the cute and hidden-talented Emily. Her soft-spoken and warm demeanor emitted the necessary qualities of a young girl, shy yet endearing. She was known to be the obedient granddaughter of the old Chief.
However, from Emily's pink hair, Feng Yi concluded that she must be a New Human.
It's well known that this type of gene-modified individual, created through potential activation technology, is not too unusual. They make up less than seven percent of the total world population. New Humans are determined by their fate at birth, with exceptional appearances. The men are handsome and the women beautiful.
Indeed, this so-called flawlessness is only on the surface. What's important is their awakened abilities. They possess features that are beyond perfect compared to ordinary humans. Some have perception abilities, some can see through objects, and some can move objects from afar. For thousands of years, mankind has never lacked individuals with special abilities. It was not until the 24th century that the scientific community began to categorize these as special Mental Abilities.
In the Great Age of Exploration, it was not uncommon to encounter those with special abilities. Their brain waves and genetic characteristics were much stronger than those of ordinary people. As a result, whether it was learning, comprehending, or inborn physique, they were all superior to ordinary people.
According to comprehensive surveys based on battlefield data, an average trained soldier can control a mobile war machine at a hand speed ranging from 80 to 100 cards. Any randomly chosen New Human could reach that standard. This was what made them terrifying. Compared to ordinary people, it could be said to be a sorrowful situation.
