Chapter 11: who the hell is Zarek
Damon's POV
As soon as I found out Mom was fine, I sat down on the sofa in her ward. Dad was sitting beside her bed, holding her hand.
Orian stood near the door, scrolling through his phone, while Kael walked over to stand beside Dad. Mom was still asleep.
"Dad, did you bring home another blonde-haired, blue-eyed omega today?" I asked.
Hearing my words, Orian immediately looked at me, his expression turning gloomy as he lowered his gaze.
Dad turned from his chair and looked at me.
"I can't bring myself to say no to your mother, no matter what," Dad said, his eyes downcast and his face showing helplessness.
"And the omega I brought home today was just a coincidence. He was being harassed by an alpha, so I intervened to help him. But your mother insisted on bringing him home, and I couldn't refuse her."
Dad's gaze remained fixed on me as he finished speaking. I could understand his situation—Dad loved Mom deeply.
He never stopped or questioned her about anything. Mom was a free-spirited person who loved the open skies and the freedom to soar. Dad knew this about her all too well.
"Dad, I think once Mom recovers, you should take her on a long vacation. If she's not here, those thoughts won't cross her mind," I suggested, knowing Mom's love for traveling.
"Damon, it's late. Do one thing—take Kael and Orian home," Dad said, looking toward Orian, who was now listening to us and staring in our direction.
"Orian must be tired, and he's probably feeling sleepy too," Dad added.
Orian stepped forward at this.
"No, Dad, I'm perfectly fine. I can't leave you and Mom here alone," he said firmly.
Before I could respond, Kael grabbed Orian's hand and pulled him closer. Honestly, I didn't like Kael engaging in physical contact with Orian.
He's the youngest among us, and I've always kept my distance from him for that reason.
I'm 27 years old. Theron is 25, Kael is 23, and Lysander is 21. Orian just turned 18 yesterday.
From childhood, I've only ever seen him as my younger brother.
On some level, I always knew he wasn't my fated mate, and I never felt any attraction toward him. That's the main reason I've never been particularly close to Orian.
"Let's go, Orian. It's time to sleep," Kael said, placing his hands on Orian's shoulders.
I immediately stood up from the sofa and pulled out my phone, scrolling through it as I approached Dad.
"I'm not going back to the mansion. I'll head to my own house because I still have a lot of work left to do."
I turned my head toward Kael and Orian. "Kael, you take Orian home."
Hearing this, both Kael and Orian broke into smiles.
But the real reason was Silas—I couldn't leave him alone. My plan was to take him to my house instead.
We four brothers had separate houses, though we often visited the mansion because Mom missed us a lot. However, everyone was too busy with their own careers now.
Kael took Orian and left, but I still had to discuss some business matters with Dad, so I stayed behind.
After a full half-hour, our discussion finally ended.
"Dad, alright then, I'll leave now. Call me if you need me," I said as I headed toward the door.
"Hmm, bye," Dad replied, and then turned back toward Mom.
Honestly, Dad loves Mom a little too much. I don't think I'll ever be able to love someone as much as Dad loves her.
I stepped out of the room and started walking toward Silas, taking slow steps since I was exhausted.
I hadn't been able to sleep properly for the past two days because of work.
But maybe tonight, I'd finally get a good night's sleep because I'd found the main character for my drama. Now I wouldn't have to conduct auditions for the lead role starting tomorrow.
Adjusting my glasses as I walked, I suddenly overheard:
"Hey, isn't that President Damon of Gold Era Entertainment?"
"Really? He's so handsome! I feel like going up and asking for a selfie!"
I turned toward the nurses and gave them a faint smile before continuing forward.
"See! He smiled at me!"
"No, he smiled at me. He must like me!"
"You're both wrong! He was looking at me. It's love at first sight for him!"
I had only given them a professional smile. I didn't like any of them, but oh well.
I wasn't about to burst their bubble of misunderstandings.
As I moved forward and reached the ward, I noticed the door was slightly open, and the lights inside were turned off.
It felt strange since doctors usually don't turn off the ward lights.
How could the lights be off? I immediately pushed the door open and stepped inside.
But then I saw a male nurse sitting beside Silas on the bed.
The moment he noticed me, the nurse panicked and quickly got off the bed. I walked straight up to him and grabbed his collar.
"What were you doing?" I demanded. I was already on edge because Dad had told me that Silas had been harassed when they found him.
That made me even more sensitive right now.
But then I noticed something—he was an omega. The moment he saw me, his cheeks turned red, and a faint, fishy scent began to linger in the air.
I asked "what were you doing?" I shouted loudly, my voice sharp with anger. The nurse flinched, dropping to his knees in fear.
I walked over, turned on the ward lights, and checked on Silas. He still seemed to be fast asleep.
How could he sleep so deeply, completely unaware of what was happening around him?
The nurse, still on the floor, began sobbing.
"Please forgive me... I was just trying to figure out what's so special about this omega that you carried him in your arms yourself," he stammered through his tears.
He then explained himself further, claiming that he was merely sitting beside Silas and showing off in his friend group by texting them that i was dating someone.
After all I am pretty famous that everyone talks about me.
He added that he had turned off the lights out of fear that someone might come in and yell at him.
I let him go after listening to his explanation. His expressions and body language told me he wasn't lying.
I sat down beside Silas. "How can you be so careless, even as an omega?"
He had been sleeping for so long. If it had been someone else in my place, who knows what they might have done to him by now.
Luckily, I'm decent enough not to lay a hand on someone at night—though I can't guarantee the same during the day.
I got up from the bed and lifted Silas into my arms once again. But as soon as I did, he must've woken up.
He wrapped his arms around my neck. "Zarek, after the wedding... you can touch me, but not now," Silas said, perhaps still half-asleep or mistaking me for someone else.
I got really annoyed, thinking he confused me with someone else. And who the hell is Zarek?
Then I reme
mbered that the prince of the Ironclaw Pack is also named Zarek. I'll ask Silas about this tomorrow.
I carried Silas out of there.
