Chapter 5: Chapter 4
"An unknown energy is making your strength even stronger. Strength increases slightly."
"An unknown energy is making your agility even stronger. Agility increases slightly."
"Your internal magic power is explosively increasing. It is uncontrollable. Magic power increases dramatically."
"The goddess of luck smiles upon you. She has a deep interest in you. Luck increases dramatically."
Looking at the messages, it seemed unlikely that I'd see a significant increase in strength and agility. It was inevitable. While strength might be acceptable, agility at 96 points was already quite high, even on the Hall Plain. However, I was quite hopeful about magic power and luck. Although it was event-specific, a special message had appeared.
"I haven't felt this excited in a long time. It's a shame that my vitality didn't increase, but..."
I hadn't even expected to receive any special benefits at the start. Given how significant this already was, I calmed my pounding heart and immediately opened the player information window.

"Strength increased by 8 points, Agility increased by 2 points, Magic Power increased by 42 points, Luck increased by 52 points. Total increase of 104 points."
Good. Very good. The once modest stats now showed impressive numbers, making them quite eye-catching.
However, while it was definitely a moment to be pleased, the lack of an increase in vitality caught my attention. Compared to the other stats, there was a lingering sense of disappointment.
"Rather than luck, if only vitality had increased..."
Vitality is crucial, much like the 'pillar' or 'root' of all other stats. If Magic is compared to a car's engine, then vitality could be likened to the car's body. My current vitality of 78 points felt rather mediocre.
"I can manage the output reasonably well... but still."
Human desires seem endless. Even with significantly improved stats, the sense of dissatisfaction lingers.
Though I had various thoughts, I decided to set aside my dissatisfaction for now. There are still many perks to receive. I wanted to avoid wasting time aimlessly.
"Player Kim Su-Hyeon, would you like to move on to the next perk?"
"Um. Let me think... No, wait a moment. Seraph, how much time is left until the ritual is completed?"
"1 hour, 42 minutes, and 23 seconds."
"Hold on, hold on. Let me think for a moment. 30 minutes... no, even just for 10 minutes."
"As you wish."
I immediately closed my eyes and delved into my thoughts.
In the Hall Plain, I was a strong individual. I had enough strength to wield the Zero Code. I certainly had the qualifications to be called strong, but I knew that I couldn't claim to be 'the best' or 'the strongest.' I was far from such titles. My low magical abilities always held me back.
Although I had resolved the magical issues, this might be as far as I can go. My current physical state was almost at its limit. Although it was marked as zero years old on the surface, I had effectively loaded a ten-year-old body. While there were ways to boost abilities through rewards, equipment, and elixirs, the most conventional method—'training'—was not an option for me to improve anymore.
Of course, this didn't mean I was at a disadvantage. Although it varied by individual, on average, growth through training tended to stop between 70 to 80 points. Considering that, my current abilities were at a level that could be considered luxurious.
'But that's just the general case.'
There are always exceptional cases that exceed expectations. I needed to consider the possibility of starting with abilities exceeding 70 points. No, moving forward, I had to align my expectations with such cases. There was no guarantee that the miracles and coincidences I experienced in the first round would occur again. For what I wanted to achieve, I definitely needed enough power to make it happen.
I opened my eyes. Seraph was still seated on the altar, waiting for my response. Seeing her, I quietly spoke.
"Seraph, I would like to request a class selection as the next special benefit."
"Yes. I have received a request from player Kim Su-Hyeon. You will be given priority to choose a class before entering the Hall Plain. Additionally, I will temporarily reveal all classes, even those shrouded in secrecy."
Choosing a class is a process that requires proving qualifications as part of player settings. Originally, this process was only possible in the summoning room after surviving the ritual. Essentially, I am bypassing that process and starting directly with information settings.
I was thinking of choosing a class related to the sword again. While my increased magical power opens up other class options, I still feel that the sword is the best choice. It's a path I've already chosen before. There's a shortcut, and I don't see the need to forge a new path.
A chart densely packed with information appeared in my vision. Without even looking, I moved forward from the Rare class. I begin to slowly review only the Secret classes.
'Class List (Secret)'
[War Mage]
[Field Maestro]
[Requiem Assassin]
[Soul Commander]
[Jewel Mage]
[Copy Archmage]
[Death Knight]
[Brilliance Priest]
[.......]
"This is not it... This isn't it either... Hmm... The class that guy had..."
Were there this many secret classes? I was momentarily at a loss for words seeing how many classes appeared, more than I expected. Eventually, after struggling alone and fearing it would just waste time, I decided to ask Seraph for help.
"Seraph, could you filter to show only the knight classes among the secrets?"
"It's not difficult. Are you considering selecting a knight-related secret class?"
"Why do you ask?"
"I recommend it. It's an excellent choice. Please wait a moment. I'll sort them out for you."
The reason I was fixated on classes was because they were linked to special and unique abilities. Classes determined by stats, and abilities determined by classes. That was the order I had set. I needed to prepare for the two unique abilities that would be randomly chosen, keeping in mind the 'unique abilities'.
"Sorting is complete. I'll display the chart."
"Okay."
I began to carefully review the filtered classes. I wanted a class that would be effective against mages. During the first round, my low magic power and luck stats made battling mages extremely challenging. Thinking about that still gave me chills.
"I found it."
And midway through the list, I finally found the classes I was looking for.
[Sword Specialist]
[Spell Sniper]
Secret classes each have a unique 'power'. Both classes appeared in the first round, and their power was formidable enough to shake the world.
The Sword Specialist's power provides advantages in all sword-related actions and can cut through everything in existence. The Spell Sniper's power involves complete resistance to magical attacks with a certain probability.
To elaborate on the Spell Sniper, it can resist all magic with a Magic Power stat below 75 points. Additionally, it reduces damage by 80% for Magic Power stats below 85 points and by 50% for Magic Power stats below 90 points.
If I hadn't thought about it and had chosen a class immediately, I would have picked the Spell Sniper without a second thought. The potential of combining anti-magic abilities with this power could make ordinary mages mere strawmen, except for those who push magical limits.
However, after careful consideration, my mind was rapidly drawn to the Sword Specialist. The ability to cut through everything in existence was an irresistible, fatal allure. I recalled a player who had excelled as a Sword Specialist. His feats were truly impressive, slicing through countless spells and defeating many mages as if they were autumn leaves swept away.
While the Spell Sniper is good, the Sword Specialist is also formidable.
After much deliberation, I ultimately chose the Sword Specialist. It might seem like a risky choice, but I spoke with a sense of lightness as if I were enchanted by something.
"I'll go with the Sword Specialist class."
"A Sword Specialist, you say? It's not a bad choice, but a Spell Sniper is also quite a good class. Considering player Kim Su-Hyeon's current magical power, it's rare to find a mage who could harm you."
"That's true."
"Then why…"
"In other words, it means there are still some who could pose a threat."
"..."
Seraph still looked dissatisfied. Although her mind seemed to waver for a moment, she quickly regained her composure and strengthened her voice.
"Let me give you an example to consider. There are target systems with guaranteed success to a certain extent, and non-target systems that depend on control. The former has some safety, but it clearly has its limits. However, the latter's efficiency varies purely based on player skills. Do you understand what I mean?"
"I understand. Then I'll go with the Sword Specialist."
"As you wish."
Seraph thought for a moment, then nodded once. At the same time, I received a message indicating that another piece of information had been updated.
"Congratulations. You have acquired the Secret Class, Sword Specialist. Player information is being updated."
Seeing the message, I felt an oddly refreshing sense of relief. Perhaps because I had smoothly passed the first hurdle, I felt much more at ease. However, it was still too early to relax. I quickly composed myself and prepared for the next special ability. Since the next special ability involved aspects beyond my direct control, It raised my tension once more.
'3. A special ability and Latent ability are granted. Players generally have 1 special ability slot and 4 Latent ability slots, but for player Kim Su-Hyeon, an additional special ability slot will be opened. This also includes unlocking all hidden abilities, special abilities, and Latent abilities, allowing you to choose what you want.
Alternatively, you can open a 'Unique Ability' slot. Unique Abilities are abilities that are higher than special abilities. If you choose the Unique Ability, you can select 1 special ability and 5 Latent abilities of your choice. (In this case, the opened slots are automatically included in the Latent abilities.)'
I slowly mulled over the information that had been inputted into my mind. Special and latent abilities develop according to one's traits and can be unlocked one by one. In other words, choosing your abilities from the start provides a significant advantage, as it means starting from a different baseline than other players. However, this also requires careful consideration.
As I've mentioned before, special and latent abilities are crucial for a character's efficiency. Acquiring traits that suit your class will strengthen you, but the opposite can undermine your class's efficiency. To grow stronger, you must harmonize your stats, class, and abilities.
"Seraph, let's proceed with the unique ability."
"Yes. I'll ask: will you activate the unique ability slots? The difference will be…"
"I understand. I'll choose to focus on unique abilities."
"Understood. This will consume one latent ability slot. Additionally, two of the remaining four slots will be randomly selected."
I trust the system. Just as the player's growth is factored into stat increases, a similar principle applies to ability openings. Essentially, there's a high chance that two of the abilities from my first round will be selected.
As Seraph signaled readiness, I was asked, "Do you want to choose the unique and special abilities first, or open the two latent ability slots?"
Despite a hint of anxiety, I decided to open the two latent ability slots first.
"I'll open the two latent ability slots first."
