Mercenary's War

Chapter 23: Chapter 23 On the Airplane

The airport in Malakal was small, and there were no flights taking off at night, only the plane that had come to pick up Morgan was parked on the runway.

The car that Gao Yang and his group were in drove all the way to the side of the plane, and waiting beside the plane's entrance were three more people who had arrived with the plane.

After Morgan got out of the car, he walked toward the person waiting by the plane and hugged him, then Morgan whispered, "Your brother's body is in the car, I'm sorry, Simon."

Simon nodded his head, speaking with a grave voice, "Mr. Morgan, Moses simply fulfilled his duty. I'm very grateful that you've brought Moses back home."

After patting Simon on the shoulder, Mr. Morgan nodded to the other two men, gestured for Bob and Gao Yang to follow, and then quickly boarded the plane.

The plane that had come for Morgan was a beautiful Gulfstream G450, his private plane capable of intercontinental travel. Although Gao Yang didn't know exactly how much it cost to buy such a plane, he was aware that it was definitely valuable.

There were nineteen seats inside the cabin, and after Morgan told Gao Yang to make himself comfortable, he went to the front of the cabin to start a quiet conversation with the men who had come to pick him up, while Gao Yang knowingly sat as far away from Morgan as possible.

Seeing that Gao Yang had seated himself in the corner, Bob sat down beside him with a playful grin and elbowed him, "Hey buddy, you're not still mad at me, are you? Okay, I apologize again, I swear I won't mess up your good things ever again."

Gao Yang shook his head, speaking softly, "I'm not mad, I'm just a bit scared, brother. I'm scared to death right now."

Bob asked in surprise, "Scared? Scared of what? Did you develop a phobia of flying?"

Gao Yang gave a wry smile, "No, I get scared when I think about being able to go home soon. I've been away from home for too long and don't know the situation there. We have a saying in Huaxia, 'the nearer home, the more you shrink from it', and I think that's what I'm feeling right now."

Bob shrugged, looking puzzled, "That's a strange thought. What's there to be scared of about going home? If I were you, I'd keep out of touch and surprise them when I get back. Come on, we're about to leave this damn country, you should be happy."

While Gao Yang was talking to Bob, the plane was ready for takeoff, and as soon as the man named Simon boarded the plane, it immediately began to close the hatch, preparing to take off.

Once Simon boarded the plane, he didn't immediately sit down but walked straight up to Gao Yang and stretched out his hand. After shaking hands with Gao Yang, Simon spoke with a slightly hoarse voice, "My name is Simon, Moses's brother. I'm here to thank you for completing the responsibility my brother couldn't finish, for protecting Mr. Morgan, and also for helping Mr. Morgan bring back my brother's body. I'm very grateful to you, young man."

After he finished speaking, Simon went to sit beside Morgan, and as soon as Simon took his seat, the plane began to taxi.

Gao Yang knew that Simon's brother was Mr. Morgan's bodyguard Moses, an extremely skilled individual, and while Simon seemed no different from an ordinary person and was not particularly noticeable, Gao Yang could feel the calluses on Simon's hand when they shook hands, so he was certain that Simon was definitely a skilled individual as well.

After the plane took off, Gao Yang lowered his voice and said to Bob beside him, "That Simon, is he also one of your father's bodyguards? He seems pretty formidable. What's his background?"

Bob also lowered his voice and said cautiously, "You're right, he is very, very formidable, just like his brother, one of the toughest guys under my dad's command. One of the brothers stays by my dad's side, while the other is in domestic service. They're both Jews, from Israel, and it seems they are from the same unit, but they won't say which unit they belong to. No one knows, not even my dad. I suspect they may be part of Mossad, but that's just a guess. That's all I know."

Upon learning that Simon was from Israel, Gao Yang's interest in him greatly increased, not for any particular reason, just because Israel's special forces are so formidable and mysterious. And without exaggeration, Israel's special forces have achieved the most illustrious record in the world. Up to now, Israel has not disclosed the name of any of its special forces units. The only one, "Sayeret Matkal," is just speculation by the public and has never been officially recognized by Israel, completely unconfirmed as to whether this unit even exists.

As a military enthusiast, Gao Yang was extremely interested in Israel's special forces, which in turn piqued his interest in Simon, but that was all. Gao Yang wouldn't foolishly go up and ask Simon which unit he was from, nor would he act like a star-chaser and ask for an autograph. He just gave Simon a few more curious, respectful glances.

Watching Gao Yang's gaze constantly on Simon, Bob gently nudged him and whispered, "Hey, brother, don't just look at Simon. Talk to me about your special forces in Huaxia. They're as mysterious as Israel's. Tell me, I promise I won't leak it out."

Gao Yang couldn't help but laugh and cry, "Where do you get that I'm part of special forces? I've told you, I'm just a military enthusiast, that's all."

Bob scoffed, "Come on, dude, I'm a military enthusiast too, all right. Though I'm only obsessed with firearms, I'm still an enthusiast. Do you think I could have survived in that situation? Moses was so talented and he died; do you still dare say you're just a fan? Stop kidding, you must have been on some special mission, right?"

Gao Yang sighed and said, "I really am just a military enthusiast, not some special forces soldier, nor a spy. I only practiced professional shooting for three years. As for why I did okay back then, I just did the right thing at the right place, that's all. Of course, the main reason was my luck, it was really, really good, so good that bullets would dodge me. Aside from that, I really have no other explanation."

"Really?"

"Really, I swear to God."

Bob sighed in disappointment, "Alright, I'll take your word for it. Oh, by the way, I have a gift for you."

After saying that, Bob took off his gun holster and handed it to Gao Yang, "Here, I'm giving you my beloved gun, the hunter's best companion."

Gao Yang took the holster and pulled out a shiny, large-caliber revolver.

The gun was a Smith & Wesson M686, a classic model from Smith & Wesson, firing the powerful .357 Magnum bullet, which has enough stopping power to kill beasts like bears and lions. Moreover, the M686 can hold seven rounds, more than most high-caliber revolvers.

Although the M686 has not become a mainstream personal defense handgun due to its large recoil and size, its reliability with no jams, the high power of the .357 Magnum rounds, and its safety without a manual safety, allowing for immediate shooting in case of danger, have made the M686 a favorite among hunters.

Bob's M686 had a six-inch barrel, not the largest model of the M686. Holding it felt heavy in the hand. It was Gao Yang's first time handling a revolver, and both the appearance and the feel of the M686 captivated him. Moreover, Bob's M686 with its chrome plating and ivory handle grips indicated that it was another custom-made fine piece.

After admiring it for a while, Gao Yang sighed and handed the gun back to Bob, a look of helplessness on his face, "Forget it, it's better to give it back to you. I'm about to return to my country soon, and there's no way I can take this gun with me."
