Chapter 15: Part 1
The crisp, new uniform felt stiff against my skin. The dark grey blazer with the subtle gold trim felt a world away from the loose-fitting gym clothes I was used to. A nervous flutter danced in my stomach as I straightened it in the mirror, the U.A. crest – now a stylized emblem of laurel leaves instead of the bold 'H' – glinting under the soft morning light.
U.A. Prep. The words still felt foreign on my tongue. Gone were the days of explosions and quirk training, of striving to be the best hero. Now, it was about… academics. About preparing for a future that felt so much less defined, so much less… me.
I grabbed my meticulously packed bag, the weight of my notebooks and textbooks feeling heavier than any training gear ever had. One last hug from Mom, a quick "Ganbaro" from her teary eyes, and I was out the door.
Waiting for me was the sleek, obsidian car, its polished surface reflecting the pale morning sky. Hyjun, my assigned driver, was already there, standing with the practiced ease of someone used to handling the schedules of the privileged. He offered a polite nod as he took my bag, stowing it neatly in the trunk. The leather seats of the car were cool against my skin as I settled in, the familiar scent of expensive wood and leather filling my senses.
The drive was long, almost an hour, the landscape shifting from the familiar suburban sprawl of Musutafu to the manicured lawns and golden gates of U.A. Prep. I stared out the window, the quiet hum of the engine a stark contrast to the roaring engines of my old school bus. The city seemed a distant memory, replaced by a meticulously ordered landscape.
When we finally pulled into the school grounds, I couldn't help but stare. U.A. was no longer the sprawling campus of a hero academy. Now, it was a collection of pristine white buildings, adorned with golden accents that caught the sunlight. It looked more like a palace than a place of learning. The main building, a towering structure of glass and marble, radiated an aura of quiet elegance and power.
Hyjun led me through the polished corridors, the echo of our footsteps bouncing off the high ceilings. The interior was just as immaculate as the exterior, everything gleaming, from the polished floors to the delicate chandeliers. It was all… overwhelming.
He took me to my dorm room, a surprisingly spacious single room with a large window overlooking the manicured gardens. The furniture, all in shades of white and grey, was sleek and modern. He helped me unpack, his movements precise and efficient, and then, with another formal bow, he left me to settle in.
I spent the afternoon getting acquainted with my new schedule, a meticulously planned itinerary of classes ranging from Advanced Calculus to Classical Literature. There was a stark lack of combat training, of course, and it was a strange void. The other students seemed just as quiet, just as focused. We spoke more about the intricacies of quadratic equations than about the heroes we admired, or the quirks we trained.
I had a class called "Global Relations" in the afternoon. It was interesting enough, I suppose, but I couldn't shake off a strange feeling of displacement. I was studying the intricacies of international trade agreement, when only months ago I was training to save lives. This new life felt so… distant from the dream I had held so dear.
As the day drew to a close, I found myself standing at the window of my dorm room, the polished landscape reflecting the setting sun. I had adjusted to the schedule, to the quiet formality, but I couldn't help but wonder about the path that was now lost to me. Was this my future? To study, to achieve, not as a hero, but as something else?
I sighed, the image of All Might's smile flickering in my mind. This new U.A. was no longer about becoming a hero. It was about becoming… something else. I had to figure out what that "something else" was but for now, I would start with my homework. Tomorrow was another day.
