MHA: Mewtwo

Chapter 16: XVI: tournament start (festival 3).

Raiden sat quietly in the locker room, waiting alone for his turn. Cross-legged and fully transformed in his "combat mode," his tail swished behind him in a steady, rhythmic motion. He used this time to meditate and center himself, preparing mentally for the upcoming challenges.

Over the course of his time at U.A., Raiden had come to realize how meditation played a crucial role in recovering his mental strength—a key element for many of his abilities. In fact, most of his powers were deeply rooted in mental focus. With a deep breath, he patiently awaited the start of the matches, allowing his mind to stay sharp and clear.

He had no way of knowing when his turn would come, as the names of the competitors will only appeared when a fight began. This made it impossible to formulate a specific strategy in advance. His only choice was to meditate, keeping himself in peak condition for the upcoming battle.

As the two hours passed, Present Mic's voice suddenly echoed through the stadium, cutting through the quiet atmosphere. Raiden couldn't help but chuckle. A small TV in the corner of the locker room displayed a live stream of the event. No one else was in the locker room—everyone had gathered in the waiting room, ready for their turn.

Raiden watched on the TV as four pristine white platforms materialized in the middle of the stadium, prepared for the competitors. It was impressive how quickly the school could set up such an elaborate display. The wealth and resources at U.A. were undeniable, a testament to their status.

Present Mic explained that the first round would feature four simultaneous battles. Raiden stood up slightly, preparing himself. However, as the names appeared on the screen, Raiden raised an eyebrow.

"Rin vs. Harukada," it read. He had finished first in the initial test, so he had assumed he would be the first to fight. But then it clicked. There were 24 participants, and if this tournament followed a bracket format, the top eight would be automatically placed in the second round.

The next names on the screen appeared: "Akira vs. Daki," "Aoi vs. Norame," and "Yamamoto vs. Riku." Seeing that none of them were his name, Raiden assumed he was right and returned to his meditation. It seemed that Raiden could afford to relax for now.

Still, Raiden couldn't help but watch the first match. One of the competitors in this round would likely face him later... probably.

Two girls, both from the general course, faced off in the ring. Rin had a Quirk that allowed her to summon a turtle shell from her back, giving her armor and a tail she could use in combat. It wasn't a bad ability, but Raiden quickly noticed that she lacked the necessary skill. He was used to fighting formidable opponents, even before entering the U.A., and she seemed to be missing many key elements of combat.

Her opponent possessed a Quirk that grew scales on her body, specifically her arms. Another armor-based Quirk struck Raiden as peculiar. The fight itself was straightforward: the girls exchanged blow after blow. Despite their lack of refinement, they fought with intensity.

In the end, Rin emerged victorious, having won a battle of endurance.

The next matches went by just as quickly. None lasted more than a couple of minutes, and soon enough, the eight fights concluded. It was finally time for the second round.

This time, Raiden didn't linger in the locker room. Having already replenished his mental strength, he walked back to the waiting room. There, he found his classmates engaged in the same activity he had been doing earlier—meditating. Even the usually carefree Mirio was focused, their demeanor reflecting the weight of the competition.

Moments later, Raiden's name appeared on the screen: "Raiden vs. Rin."

Without hesitation, he took a deep breath and headed for the stage. He understood the significance of this event; it was clear to all of them. With one final steadying breath, he stepped forward into the stadium. This time, only one platform stood in the center, larger than those used in the previous matches. Climbing the stairs, Raiden stepped onto the arena.

His opponent, Rin, was already waiting for him. While Raiden didn't see her as a major threat, he wasn't about to underestimate her either. Still, he decided not to be overly harsh—this was a test of skill, not brute dominance.

They stood on opposite sides of the platform, and Rin's intense gaze met his.

"You know, I have to win this," Rin declared fiercely. "If I do, I'll earn a place in the hero course."

The statement momentarily stunned Raiden. "And who told you that?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.

"The director told us," Rin replied confidently. "If we perform well, we can qualify for a reevaluation, and if we win, we'll be transferred directly into the hero course. So, if I win against you, there's a good chance I'll secure a spot in the hero course. That's why I'll be the first to claim my place!"

Raiden frowned. "That doesn't sound like the U.A. teachers. They don't push for ruthless competition like that," he countered, though his mind wandered to the director's unconventional methods. Memories of the entrance exam resurfaced—how the robots' programming had been altered to push the applicants to their limits.

As realization dawned on him, Rin smirked slightly, then charged forward the moment Present Mic gave the signal to begin.

For a split second, Raiden debated his next move. Then, his resolve hardened. He would defeat her swiftly. The director's intent was clear: don't hold back. Every student here was a potential hero, and the trials were meant to prepare them for the real world, so in a tournament don't go gifting courtesy.

Rin charged at full speed. Raiden, unfazed, immediately transformed. His sudden shift in appearance made Rin falter for a moment, but she quickly regained her focus, her turtle shell sprouting from her back as her tail extended.

She lunged at him with a straightforward strike, but Raiden sidestepped effortlessly, dodging her attack. As she passed, he raised his hand and launched a "Confusion."

A wave of purple energy rippled across the arena, hitting Rin directly. The impact sent her flying backward, though she managed to anchor herself with her tail before falling off the platform. When she looked up to rejoin the fight, Raiden was already upon her, a second attack prepared. With a swift, concentrated burst of energy, he sent her out of the arena, claiming victory.

The entire match lasted less than a minute.

"ladies and gentlemen, what a show!!"Present Mic's voice boomed across the stadium. "Raiden, the top scorer from the first test, has delivered an absolute victory! Let's give a round of applause for our young heroes in training!"

Raiden gave a polite wave to the audience before stepping off the platform. His job wasn't done—he'd have to wait again for the next round and he need to be focused for that.

The next battle started immediately. Present Mic didn't waste a moment as his voice echoed through the stadium.

"Ladies and gentlemaaan, we're moving straight into the second fight of the second round! On one siiide, we haaaave... Dakiii! And facing her... Chopppeeer!" The crowd erupted into cheers, their enthusiasm igniting the arena as the two new participants stepped forward. (A/N: I know these OC names, aren't that OC)

Daki was a girl with sleek black hair and piercing purple eyes. Her petite frame belied a presence that was commanding, her movements deliberate and focused.

On the other side stood Chopper, a slender boy with two small horns protruding from his head. His skin bore intricate antler-like patterns, and his brown hair added to his unique appearance. A faint but distinct aura of determination seemed to surround him, hinting at his readiness for battle.

Meanwhile, Raiden decided to stay nearby to observe this match closely. He knew one of these contenders would face him in the next round. According to the screen, Daki was from the General Course, while Chopper was from Class 1-B—a class known for producing strong challengers. Raiden's mind began working, analyzing their potential strengths and weaknesses, devising strategies as the match was about to begin.

As Present Mic called for the battle to start, Raiden focused intently on the events unfolding before him. Chopper made the first move, displaying an unusual ability—two massive reindeer-like horns sprouted from his head. Without hesitation, he removed one and hurled it toward Daki with surprising force. Daki, undeterred, revealed her own Quirk: a flexible brown rope-like material extended from her palm, redirecting the projectile effortlessly.

Raiden observed every detail, piecing together an understanding of their abilities. The quirks seemed straightforward at first, but then Chopper's next move grabbed his full attention.

Chopper's legs transformed, taking on the powerful structure of a reindeer's. His speed increased dramatically as he charged at Daki with renewed energy. The horns regrew almost instantly, and he now wielded both like weapons. His attacks were swift, precise, and unrelenting, leaving Daki little room to breathe.

Daki fought back valiantly, using her rope to deflect and counter Chopper's relentless strikes. However, the advantage was clear—Chopper's raw speed and strength gave him the upper hand. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as the tension escalated.

With a powerful swing of one horn, Chopper struck Daki square in the chest, sending her flying across the arena. The impact drew gasps from the audience, but Daki wasn't about to surrender. As she soared through the air, she extended her rope, latching onto Chopper's arm with precision. Using the momentum, she swung herself back toward the arena floor, determination burning in her eyes.

She struck with her rope, trying to land a hit on Chopper. However, the reindeer-like boy had the clear advantage in speed. He dodged every attack with ease, countering Daki's efforts with multiple swift and precise strikes. This no longer resembled a fair fight—it had become one-sided. Raiden noticed Chopper's strategy; he wasn't aiming to hurt Daki seriously. Instead, his moves were calculated, as though he intended to end the match decisively by tossing her out of bounds.

Daki, on the other hand, refused to give up. Each time she was thrown back, she returned to the arena with unyielding determination, her resolve blazing despite the odds stacked against her. Exhaustion was evident in her eyes, her movements slower and more labored. Yet, she didn't retreat.

Chopper, by contrast, seemed barely affected. Not a bead of sweat lined his brow as he finally spoke, his voice calm but firm. "Daki-san, you should surrender. I don't want to hurt you any more than this. It's too much," he said, his tone almost apologetic.

But Daki wasn't listening. She launched herself forward, though this time it was more of a stumble than a charge. Seeing her falter, Chopper changed his approach. He moved with incredible speed, closing the gap in an instant. Instead of countering her directly, he scooped her up effortlessly and threw her toward the edge of the arena.

Daki, relying on her overused strategy, extended her rope again to swing back into the fight. But Chopper had anticipated this. With a single swift motion, he dodged the incoming rope and severed it cleanly with one of his horns.

The match was over.

Chopper stood victorious, and the crowd erupted into cheers. Present Mic's voice roared over the noise, hyping up the audience even more. "what a fight, ladies and gentlemeeeen! on one side, we had the unbreakable dakiii, and on the other, the lightning-fast swift legs chopppeeer! what an exciting showdown! but there can only be one winner... and that winner is... cho-cho-choppeeeerrr!"

Raiden, watching from the sidelines, raised an eyebrow at the announcer's enthusiasm. "He put more effort into hyping up this fight than mine," he muttered under his breath, clearly a bit dissatisfied.

The next battles continued in quick succession. First up was Taro versus Aoi, a girl from Class 1-B. This match was a grueling back-and-forth struggle, but in the end, Taro was defeated. Aoi proved to be exceptionally strong, with a peculiar Quirk that allowed her to produce water at will. Her appearance, however, was what stood out most—she looked as if she had stepped straight out of a classic Japanese painting, with an aura that matched the elegance of her powers.

The following fight featured Tamaki versus Yamamoto. This battle was far less intense, as Tamaki claimed victory with relative ease. However, it almost ended in an unexpected turn. Yamamoto had insulted Tamaki during the fight, and the usually timid boy seemed on the verge of surrendering out of frustration. If not for Mirio and Raiden shouting encouragement from the sidelines, it was likely Tamaki would have given up entirely.

Next came Nejire's match, and she was nothing short of relentless. Nejire didn't seem to grasp just how overpowering she truly was. She went all out from the very beginning, leaving her opponent, Nao, with no opportunity to even showcase his Quirk.

The battle was over in mere moments, a testament to Nejire's overwhelming strength.

Ichirame from Class 1-B faced Yuyu from Class 1-A in the next round. This was another loss for Class 1-A. Yuyu's abilities were impressive, but Ichirame's Quirk—controlling light—proved to be the perfect counter. He conjured large, glowing structures from his arms that were sturdy enough to block Yuyu's arrows completely. Despite her best efforts, the match was decisively in Ichirame's favor.

The penultimate fight of the round was Hana versus Sakura. Interestingly, both fighters had nearly identical Quirks, each controlling petal-like structures that could harm their opponent. The difference lay in how the petals inflicted damage—Hana's petals cut, while Sakura's burned. Their battle was intense, leaving both fighters injured by the end. Ultimately, Hana secured victory by making a particularly deep cut on Sakura. The referees immediately stopped the fight and sent Sakura to the infirmary for treatment. The injury wasn't fatal, but UA wasn't willing to take any risks when it came to their students' safety.

Finally, it was Mirio's turn, facing off against Hirako. The fight bore a striking resemblance to Raiden's earlier match. Hirako said something that made Mirio frown, and in response, Mirio wasted no time. In just two moves, he ended the fight. First, he dodged Hirako's attack with precision, and then he delivered a powerful punch that sent his opponent flying out of the arena.

With that, the second round came to an end. Now, the real battles were about to begin.

+3 chapters in advance, slowly I will increase the number of chapters, also there 3 illustrations for the subs, Also is quite cheap haha.

Hello, everyone! Here, I've introduced a couple of new OCs. I felt like I had to because, let's be honest, we know very little about the Big Three generation. As you've seen, I used the name "Chopper" and gave him a reindeer-like Quirk, and then there's Daki with her rope abilities.

I know these ideas aren't the most original on my part, but I thought they'd be interesting and easy to remember in the future. Also, for those who were left wondering after the last chapter—don't worry, there won't be any clones involved. What I'm planning is something entirely different. Honestly, I'm not a fan of clone plots either; they actually unsettle me a little.
