Chapter 19: Islands and Kingdoms Part 1
One Pie Folk Island Star had arrived along with Gus, Willow and Maddie, joined by King River as they had changed into traditional Pie gear.
"With these clothes we shall blend in perfectly among the Pie Folk," River said. "Just keep an eye out, they're a crafty bunch."
"Sure thing dad," Star said, holding the pie she believed would lead her to her mother.
"Sup..." a dock person greeted. "Say, are you tourists?"
"Tourists? Can you not see that we are dressed in traditional Pie folk attire?" River said.
"Uh-huh..." the guy replied. "Listen if you're gonna leave your boat, you should really have someone watch over it. For a few bucks I can do it."
"Great idea, just let me do one thing here..." River grabbed an anchor and threw it onto the boat, sinking it to the bottom.
"King River! What was that for!?" Gus shouted.
"Guess I'm out then," the dock person said as he made his leave.
"You better run!" River said. "I will not be swindled by you lot!"
"Dad! What was that about!?" Star asked.
"Yeah, how are we gonna get home?" Gus pointed out.
"If we are going to find my dear Moon, we must stay ahead of their schemes," River said. "Now, where's that Plant Girl and the little frog?"
"We're here," Willow said, arriving alongside Maddie. "Hey where's the boat?"
"I sank it to keep it safe from the Pie Folk," River said, earning a confused glare from Willow and a snicker from Maddie. "Where is that bloodhoud."
"The sales guy didn't have one, he tried selling us a monkey," Willow said. "Then the monkey tried stealing something from Maddie."
"So I petrified it, and the salesguy," Maddie said, holding a potion bag.
"Good on you Maddie," River said. "Good to know at least one of you kids has guts."
"Hey, I have guts!" Gus insisted. "You know I once pranked a bunch of witches by making them think a forest was haunted!"
"Why would you do that?" Star asked.
"Because...they kind of swindled me..." Gus sheepishly admitted. "But I figured it out eventually, I'm a master of illusion."
Star turned to Willow, "Did he really figure it out?"
"Well he had help but it's not that Gus is gullible, he's just good-natured," Willow said. "Plus he did come the conclusion on his own."
"We are wasting time, come on, let us go," River said, leading the kids into town.
While searching, Willow was quick to notice a little boy in tattered clothes sitting next to a cart, "Aw, poor kid, think he's an orphan or something?"
"How'd you come to that conclusion?" Gus asked.
"Well, he's wearing old beat-up clothes," Willow said.
"Let me go talk to him," Star said, standing before the child. "Excuse me, do you know who made this pie?"
"Sure, I can tell you, but only if you help me steal this wagon," the boy said.
"Huh? I'm not helping you do that!" Star scolded.
"Allow me dear," River said, grabbing the lock and immediately chewing on it.
"Dad! What are you doing!?" Star shouted as a man came running over.
"Stop! Don't do that!"
"The shill!" River immediately did a belly flop onto the miniature pie man.
"Dad! What are you doing!?" Star shouted, running over with her friends.
"It's a classic scam! That boy wanted you to steal the cart that already belonged to him! That would bring the shill out of hiding to rob us!" River said, glaring down at the man. "But your plan didn't work!"
"I'm not the shill though! He's over there!" the short pie man said, gesturing to an old man standing near the boy.
"He's right, we were planning to rob ya, but I guess you caught onto our plan," the man said. "Let's go kid, we'll try again elsewhere."
"Wait, I got the wrong shill?" River asked.
"Those guys robbed me last week, that's how I got this broken arm," the man said, gesturing to his arm.
"We're really sorry sir," Willow said, helping him up. "We're kind of new here so a lot of this stuff is foreign to us, we really don't mean-HEY!"
Maddie had elbowed her ribs, "Don't tell him our life story! You're gonna make us easy targets."
"Oh I See what's happening, you think all us Pie Folk are liars and thieves," the short man said. "Some of us are good you know!"
"We really do apologize," Star said.
"Well fortunately for you, I have a really thick crust," the man said, then immediately started crying.
"Wuss..." Maddie said, earning a glare from Willow. "I'm not sorry for saying that."
"Look sir, we didn't mean any harm, we promise," Star said, trying to calm him down as she brought out the pie. "But if don't mind, can you tell me who made this pie?"
The man took a good look at the pie, "Actually, I do know who made this."
"You do!?" Star asked.
"He does huh?" Maddie said, somewhat suspicious.
"Any chance you can take us there?" Gus asked.
"Sorry, but I don't do favors to people who assault me," the man said, getting on his cart and instructing his pig to move. "Let's go Boysenberry."
"Wait sir!" River said, getting his attention. "Listen, this is not easy for me, I am an old man set in his ways..." River tearfully took his hat off, "But, I just really miss my Moon Pie!"
"Dad, it's alright, we'll find her," Star said, going to comfort her father.
"Sir, please," Willow said. "River doesn't mean any harm, he's just desperate to find his wife. Won't you help souls bound by love and holy matrimony to reunite?"
"...Well, I know what it's like to lose something you love," the short man said. "Please allow me to help you find the one who made that pie."
"Great, come on everyone," Maddie said, everyone boarding the cart as it began to make its way through town."
River still seemed to be sobbing, to which willow grabbed a handkerchief for the old King, "Here you go Your Majesty."
"That...will not be necessary young lady," River said, to the confusion of Willow. "My tears are fake."
"Wait, really?" Willow asked. "You mean you did this to trick that little man?"
"I had to, I am willing to go through a lot to save my wife," River said, pulling his pants up to reveal his shins. "Even use these little crabs."
"Oooh," Willow was very uncomfortable by the sight of the four crabs pinching River. "That looks painful."
"It is, very much so," River admitted. "And it will bring me to my wife, I can feel it!"
"I can't say I approve of you playing on someone's sympathy, but I respect a man who's willing to do anything for his wife," Willow said. "I hope I find a man like that someday."
"You will my dear, just follow your heart," River said. "It worked wonders for me."
"Excuse me dear, would you mind pulling that lever?" The pie man said. "My arm is still too injured to move anything."
"Sure," Star said, activating the lever.
Suddenly the card turned into a trap, one that got everyone by their neck and wrists, much to everryone's surprise.
"What's going on? This wasn't supposed to happen!" River shouted.
"Is everyone comfy?" the small pie man asked.
"No we're not comfy, what the hell is going on!?" Maddie shouted.
"Did you honestly believe your petty scam and ridiculous disguises would work on us? Not that it matters," the pie man said, unzipping his own disguise, revealing himself to be a man three times his size and a spatula for a leg. It was now that the group bore welcome to the Pie King.
"How did that guy fit into a small costume!?" Maddie asked.
"I don't even wanna know..." Star said.
"My word...I was wrong again!" River lamented.
"Everyone! Gather around!" Pie King said. "Say hello to our new guests!"
"What's happening?" a freaked out Willow asked.
"Oh don't you know? You're about to be sold to the highest bidder," Pie King said as he removed his hand and revealed a hook. "I do hope you're good at baking pies."
"We ain't chefs pal!" Maddie shouted, trying to break free.
"Wait, doesn't your dad own a bakery?" Gus asked, earning a glare from Maddie. "What?"
"Let us start the bidding!" Pie King said.
"I'll give you five dollars!" one man said.
"Five dollars!? We're way more than that! At least two hundred!" Gus said.
"Gus, not now!" Star said. "Dad, think, what can we do to get out of here?"
"I don't even know anymore," River tearfully lamented.
"Dad, get it together!" Star said.
"I'll give you 45 Billion, 710 Million, 412 Thousand, 242...pennies!" a mysterious cloaked figure said.
"...Huh?" Maddie said.
"How much is that anyway?" Gus asked.
"Sold..." Pie King said, amazed by the steep price.
The cloaked figure wrote out a check to the Pie King, "Do not cash this until Monday."
"Deal!" The Pie King said, taking the check as Star and her group were taken away.
"Seriously, how much did this guy just spend on us!?" Gus asked.
"Not important!" Maddie shouted.
Meanwhile in Newtopia, Marcy was ready to bring the Calamity Box to King Andrias, and after a lot of delay too.
Joining her of course were her best friends, Anne and Sasha, her boyfriend Marco, her witch friends Luz and Amity, as well as the Plantar Family of Hop Pop, Polly and Sprig along with their robot Frobo, the duo of Eda and King, the Woolett girl Kelly and lastly, Toad General Grime.
"Alright, back to Newtopia," Marcy said, having opened the portal into the capital of Amphibia. "Let's go over the plan here. Anne, you have the music box?"
"Right in my backpack," Anne said, pulling it out.
"Alright, Sasha, you and Grime will stay to the back, since Toads are kind of enemies to the throne," Marcy said. "But once I tell Andrias how helpful you've been, he'll clear your name. Just make sure no one recognizes you two, hoods up."
"You heard the girl," Sasha said, readying for what's to come.
Meanwhile Polly seemed to be scratching herself a lot, much to the worry of Eda, "You alright kid?"
"My butt is so itchy!" Polly shouted as she aggressively scratched. "It's driving me nuts!"
"Polly, don't scratch your butt in public like that, it's not very ladylike," Luz said.
"Don't start with me on that, I already went through that whole thing with Anne," Polly said, scratching harder. "Ugh, stupid fins!" She leapt down next to her demon friend, "King, use your claws to scratch!"
"Are you kidding!? I am NOT touching your butt!" King said, taking some steps back.
"Can we focus!?" Marco said. "Polly, I know it's a pain but don't touch yourself back there, you'll get your hands dirty."
"I got some ointment that can help," Hop Pop said.
"No way! That stuff stinks!" Polly said.
"Come on, we're wasting daylight," Marco said, leading his friends. "To The King!"
Everyone had already gone through the portal, making their way through the castle, staying close together while Sasha and Grime made sure to stay in the back.
While walking, Anne was constantly looking over her shoulder, worry etched on the girl's face.
"You alright Anne?" Luz asked.
"Huh?" Anne turned to Luz. "Oh, yeah I'm fine. Sorry I'm still a little freaked out."
"About Belos?" Luz asked.
"I keep feeling like he's gonna pop up at any time," Anne said. "Has he done this to you before?"
"No, he was mostly an enigma," Luz said. "Look, don't worry so much. You're not alone, you're with friends."
"Exactly," Sprig said, hopping onto Anne's shoulders. "If Belos shows his face, we'll make him regret it."
"Thanks, good to have friends like you guys," Anne said. "And who knows? Maybe Andrias can help too, I mean he's a big guy, I bet he can take Belos in a fight."
"A King battling an Emperor, that would be pretty amazing to see," Luz said.
It wasn't long before they had arrived in the throne room of King Andrias after being greeted by Olivia, with Andrias standing before the group.
"Welcome friends, I have eagerly awaited your arrival, and I gotta say, the wait was quite something," Andrias said.
"Sorry about that, we've had way too many distractions, but we figured that it'd be good to make time for you," Marco said.
"As longa as you're here now," Andrias said. "I trust you have the music box?"
"Boom Baby!" Anne said, pulling the Calamity Box out of her backpack.
"At last! The music box! And it's fully charged! Well done everyone," Andrias said, about to take the music box. "You will all be rewarded handsomely for this, I have something quite special planned."
Before he could grab it, however, Grime's tongue had reached out to take the box from Anne's hand, surprising everyone present.
"Sasha! What gives!?" Anne asked.
"Just doing what I do best!" Sasha said. "Go Grime!"
Grime brought out a giant hammer and slammed it on the ground to disorient everyone, the two taking out any oncoming knights who tried to stop them.
"Uh, is this supposed to be happening?" Kelly asked.
"Sasha! Are you nuts!?" Luz shouted. "Why are you doing this!?"
"Put a sock in it," Sasha said, then heard the roar of Andrias as he rushed in to attack, knocking Grime against a pillar.
"I'd stand down Andrias, things will only get worse," Sasha said.
"Tough talk child," Andrias said, gesturing to more of his knights. "Seize her, and get the music box!"
Before anything could happen, the knights were encased in crystals, surprising Andrias as he looked to see Rhombulus emerging from a portal, courtesy of Hekapoo, the two joined by Omnitrax.
"No one move unless you want to be crystalized," Rhombulus warned.
"Rhombulus!? Omnitrax!? Hekapoo!?" Marco shouted, about to step forward.
"He said don't move," Sasha warned. "He will turn you into a crystal!"
"He wouldn't," Marco said, turning to Rhombulus. "Tell her!"
"Marco, just put a lid on it, the sooner Andrias surrenders, the sooner we get this over with," Hekapoo said.
"Surrenders?" Marco asked, then turned to Sasha. "What are you planning!?"
"You know, I spent most of my life ruling over a school," Sasha said. "Now, I want to try ruling over a Kingdom."
"Sasha!" Anne scolded.
"I knew it!" Luz shouted, the girl glaring intently at Sasha. "I freaking knew that you couldn't be trusted!"
"Wow, so perceptive," Sasha taunted. "Lot of good that did, you still fell into my trap, all of you."
"You were planning this from the start, weren't you?" Luz asked. "That's why you showed up at the Volcano Temple!"
"Yeah, and I will admit, my plans nearly got ruined because of you and your newfound attachment to Anne," Sasha said. "You wouldn't dare let anything bad happen to her, and did your absolute best to convince her I wasn't a true friend. But in the end, it just wasn't enough."
"You took advantage of her, that's why," Luz said. "You really are controlling!"
"More like, Anne's just smart enough to know who to side with," Sasha said, this line upsetting the girl. "It's a good thing the stuff with Belos and Meteora happened, gave me a new opportunity to keep up this ruse, and make some more allies."
"You double-crosser!" Amity readied her Abomination but Grime was quick to shoulder ram her, then used his hammer to whack Andrias in the stomach.
"Alright, I've had enough of this," Eda said, readying her magic. Before she could strike, she was encased by Rhombulus's crystals.
"No! Eda!" Luz shouted in despair.
"You were all warned, were you not!?" Sasha shouted. "Anyone who causes trouble ends up like Eclipsa and her freakish lover once did."
"Whoa, harsh much!?" Kelly said.
"I don't think they'll cause more trouble," Hekapoo said. "Grime, give the word."
"Gladly," Grime stood over the balcony and roared loudly enough to give signal to Toad spies infiltrating the city as Grime held his hammer to Andrias. "Soldiers of Newtopa, surrender or you will be short one King!"
"Don't listen!" Luz called. "Fight for your-"
Sasha then whacked Luz in the head with the helm of her sword, knocking the girl over.
"Always wanted to do that," Sasha said.,
"Kelly, lets take her down!" Amity called, though took a kick to the head from Hekapoo as the monster girl also took down Kelly with one swift kick.
Marco was about to step in, but Omnitrax stood in his way, "Be smart Marco."
"You know, Star is NOT going to like this," Marco said.
"We know she isn't, honestly that's why we're taking this plan," Hekapoo said. "We're not going to just reshape this kingdom, we're reshaping ours."
"Star's a good kid, but she stepped out of line way too many times," Rhombulus said.
"What's that supposed to mean!?" Kelly asked.
"It means what it sounds like, Star is not suited for leadership, and neither is her mother," Hekapoo said.
"What are you planning? Another switcheroo?" Marco asked.
"Something like that," Hekapoo said. "Believe me though Marco, we're not the bad guys here, anything questionable now has a fitting end goal. Be smart and stay out of our way."
"I am SO disappointed in you!" Marco said, Hekapoo looking notably bothered by hearing that.
"Ignore him H-Poo, and get Andrias cuffed," Sasha said.
"R-right, got it," Hekapoo said as she placed some cuffs on Andrias while her team and some Toad guards kept a watchful eye.
Grime called to his men, "Open the gates!" Two of his disguised Toads had taken down the gatekeepers and opened the door for the oncoming army.
"You think you've won, Grime?" Andrias asked as he was taken away.
"I sure do, soon the rest of my army will be here," Grime said. "If we're lucky, we just might get graced with some Mewman soldiers."
"They wouldn't help you!" Marco said.
"Sure they would, especially if we promised them to be rid of the monsters they hate so much, the ones Queen Star allowed into her Kingdom," Grime said. "Moon going missing was quite the fortunate opportunity for us."
"With any luck, she'll stay missing," Hekapoo said.
"Hekapoo, how could you just say things like that !?" Marco shouted.
"Moon was a conniving sneak, just like her daughter," Hekapoo said. "I haven't seen so much trouble with Mewman Royalty since Eclipsa. When we traded Meteora for Festivia, I figured that would be the end of our problems, clearly it just delayed it."
"Ugh, starting to see why Glossaryck doesn't seem to like any of you," Luz said, the girl slowly standing up. "You must be his biggest regrets."
"What the hell does that old fool know? He's become too emotionally attached to the Butterfly Family, he's no longer seeing the benefit for Mewni like we are," Hekapoo said. "And I'd watch yourself if I were you. Right now The Boiling Isles doesn't have an emperor, which means anyone can swoop in and take over."
"That's actually an awesome idea," Sasha said. "After we take over Newtopia and Mewni, we'll go for The Boiling Isles next."
"You wouldn't!" Luz shouted.
"I would, so learn your place," Sasha warned.
"You won't get away with this!" Andrias said as he was led away.
"Oh be quiet," Grime said. "Guards, find Andrias an extra large cell."
As the King was being taken away, he quickly nodded to Marcy, signaling her on what she needs to do, the girl understanding the order.
"Well everyone, say hello to the new Rulers of Amphibia," Grime said.
"Yeah, sorry things are getting hectic," Sasha said. "Anne, Marcy, you're good right?"
"Uh, excuse me!?" Anne shouted. "Are you being serious right now!?"
"Hey, don't be such a sore loser," Sasha said, this statement enraging Anne. "I know I had to rough up Luz a bit, but you know she deserves it for being such a pain. Same with Amity like, you have no idea how hard it was putting up with those two."
"They're my friends!" Anne shouted. "They're supposed to be your friends too!"
"Hey I never said I wanted to be friends with them, and honestly Amity really isn't much of a friend to you," Sasha said. "Look, we have work to do so how about you go back to Mewni and do whatever, or just go back home and see your families. This Toad Regime will take a while, same with the other takeovers we have planned."
"I am NOT letting you take over Mewni!" Marco shouted. "Or The Boiling Isles for that matter!"
"Not like you can stop us, especially without the help of your precious girlfriend," Sasha said. "BT-Dubs, I'm not talking about Marcy, Mr. Blood Moon Curse."
"Sasha, that was WAY harsh, and you know it!" Anne shouted.
"Fine, it's his problem, not mine," Sasha said. "Though if he breaks Marcy's heart then Grime will break his body."
"With this fancy hammer too," Grime said, Marcy instinctively holding Marco close to her.
"Look, Anne, Marcy, you two are my actual friends, I care about you way more than any of these other losers, aside from Hekapoo," Sasha said.
"And us...right?" Rhombulus said, gesturing to himself and Omnitrax.
"Uh, sure thing big guy, you're at least tight with Grime and that's good enough for me," Sasha said, to the relief of the crystal monster. "Seriously though. Anne, Marcy, you two should join me, it will be fun."
"It would NOT be fun!" Anne shouted. "I will NOT allow you to bully me, Marcy or anyone else just to get what you want!"
"Look, you're upset, I get it," Sasha said. "Maybe you just-"
"No! I am done!" Anne shouted. "I should have listened to Luz! You're clearly a horrible person that I never should have believed in! I'm done trusting you and I'm done being your friend! Quite frankly, I never want to see you again!"
Sasha's eyes widened in shock, genuine hurt appearing on the girl's face. This was felt by everyone present, even the Magic High Commission.
"Anne, you don't mean that," Marcy said. "We can fix this."
"No Marcy, we can't!" Anne said. "You really want to be friends with her? After what she's done? She hurt Luz! She hurt Amity! She's threatening your boyfriend! She's even had Eda turned into crystal!"
"To think, I even considered making finding Belos a top priority so you'd be safe from him, but now you're on your own with that one," Sasha said. "Actually, why don't I just send you home!? Hekapoo, confiscate all their scissors!"
"No problem," Hekapoo said, using some magic to levitate the scissors away from everyone present, despite their protests.
"What are you planning?" Marco asked.
"Anne, if you want to be away from me so badly, then say goodbye to your little Frog family," Sasha said. "Hell say goodbye to all your friends in general. No more Marco, no more Amity, no more Marcy and definitely no more Luz!"
"Wait, you wouldn't!" Anne said.
"My box..." Sasha aimed the music box. "My rules!"
Anne instinctively ran toward the Plantar family, embracing them in a hug.
"Say hello to your parents for me, Anne!" Sasha said, opening the box. However nothing happened. Sasha tried to fix it but nothing came of it. "Well that was embarrassing. Guards, send them to the dungeon."
"What about that witch lady?" one guard asked.
"Leave her, she can make for a fine decoration," Sasha said.
"NO!" Luz shouted, trying to fight the guards away. "I will NOT let you make Eda your personal prisoner!"
"She's more of an item than a person for me, but a personal prisoner isn't so bad," Sasha said. "Guards, keep Luz here, she can keep me company."
"Wait, what are you going to do to her!?" Anne shouted.
"Nothing too bad," Sasha said as Luz was brought to her side. Sasha grabbed the girl by her chin, looking her straight in the eye as she continue to speak to Anne. "I'm just going to teach this wannabe witch her place in this world."
"Get your hands off of her!" Amity shouted, trying to fight the guards as well, but to no avail as she was taken away.
"Luz! Hang in there!" Marco shouted.
"We'll come rescue you! We promise!" Amity called.
"And we'll save Eda too!" King called.
"This isn't over Sasha!" Anne warned as she was pulled away. "THIS ISN'T OVER!"
As the door closed, Sasha sat on her throne, feeling some regret over the situation. She expected her friends to be mad, but she didn't expect to be completely cut off, or rather she hoped it wouldn't come to that.
"You're so gonna regret what you did today," Luz said. "The sad thing is that Anne really wanted to believe you were good too, poor girl's gonna be heartbroken over this."
"Do you ever shut up?" Sasha said, glaring right at Luz. "You know I could have let you into my friend circle if you weren't so judgmental."
"Well considering one of my best friends is a master illusionist, he is quite keen on helping me see through lies and deception," Sasha said. "Ironic, Star is looking for her mother on an island full of scammers, and you just pulled the biggest scam of all, you'd probably put those Pie Folk to shame."
"Whoa, did she really compare Sasha to those freaks?" Rhombulus said. "I haven't seen them since-"
"Since...ever, because we don't associate with those weirdos," Hekapoo abruptly said, focusing back on the witch girl. "Seriously Luz, just play nice for now, and we promise no harm will come to you or Eda."
"What about my Hexside friends?" Luz asked. "Or Lilith! How do you suppose she will react!?"
"Nothing will happen to Lilith either, as for your buddies at Hexside, well that depends on their actions," Hekapoo said.
In the hall, as everyone was being escorted to a dungeon, Anne was still fuming at what her traitorous friend had did.
"I can't believe I trusted her!" Anne shouted in annoyance, panting in frustration. "She is such a jerk!"
"Don't worry Anne, we'll fix this," Marco reassured, seeing the girl huffing in anger. "It's understandable that you're mad but getting worked up won't help."
"Please listen to Marco," Sprig said. "Seriously, you look like you're about to-"
Anne shouted in anger, earning the attention of a nearby guard. "Hey no talking"
Suddenly she headbutted him, knocking the guard into several others, to the surprise of everyone around.
"Whoo! You go girl!" Kelly said. Suddenly she noticed her team being surrounded. "Oh boy..."
"What do you think you're doing!" a guard asked.
Amity looked ready to unleash some defense magic when she saw someone overhead, "Who is..."
The person who dropped in was Yunan, the newt quickly knocking out the Toads, "Ha! Fools!"
"Yunan, is that you?" Marco asked.
"Yes, it is I, General Yunan! The Young-"
"Yunan, they know who you are, now isn't the time for this grand entrance," Olivia said as she activated a secret passage. "We need to go."
Everyone was quick to escape the castle while planning their next move.
On Pie Folk Island, the little pie man was escorting Star and her group across the area.
Not too long later, the group were thrown into a mysterious home, Star quickly facing off against the cloaked figure alongside Gus, Maddie and Willow.
"Hey, I hope you can get a refund," Star said, charging up magic in her hands. "Because you just made a bad purchase."
Suddenly a rubber chicken was thrown at Star's head, much to her confusion.
"The only thing bad..." the cloaked figure removed her hood, revealing herself to be the Butterfly Castle Jester, Foolduke. "Is that check I just wrote! Whoops, I have no money."
Star stared in shock for a second, before being filled with overwhelming glee. "Foolduke!" She immediately ran over to hug her friend.
"Foolduke?" Gus asked.
"We went to her wedding not too long ago," Maddie reminded.
"Oh yeah, the night Marco and Marcy hooked up," Gus said.
"We know that Gus," Star said, slightly annoyed before turning to her friend. "Wait, what are you doing on this island?"
"Thing is...I'm actually from here," Foolduke shamefully admitted.
"Wait, you Pie Folk?" Star asked.
"Sure am, just came to visit the old family," Foolduke said, then called to her parents. "Hey Family! We got company!"
"They got anything good?" Her father asked.
"No! And stop scamming my husband!" Foolduke warned.
"It's fine honey, I think I have a winning streak coming up," Ruberiot said, rolling some dice and coming up short. "Or not..." The musician reluctantly gave up his hat, and it was thrown in a pile with a lot of his former belongings.
"Star, what are you even doing here?" Foolduke asked.
"Looking for my mom," Star said, as she pulled out her only clue.
"That's a pie," Foolduke said, gesturing to the pastry, mistaking Star's meaning.
"We know that..." Maddie said. "Star believes this pie can lead her to her mom."
"How?" Foolduke asked.
"Only my mom makes pies like this," Star said, Foolduke sighing as she made her way to another part of the room. "We just gotta find where she's making them."
"Star..." Foolduke said, pulling a cloth off to reveal more pies exactly like Star's.
"You gotta be kidding me," Gus lamented.
"Wait...did you Queen nap my mom?" Star asked.
"No Star, Pie Folk have been making these types of pies for hundreds of years," Foolduke explained.
"Even with the little butterfly!?" Star asked.
"Actually it's supposed to be a moth," Foolduke said. "Sorry to say Star, but your mom isn't here."
"So we came all this way for nothing?" Gus asked.
"Hey it's a good thing she isn't here," Foolduke said. "I mean, this place is terrible! Ruberiot lost everything except for our hot air balloon!"
"NOOOO!" Ruberiot shouted, Foolduke immediately feeling a sense of worry. "My wife's gonna be mad."
"These people have no limits on who they will scam," Maddie said. "Even family."
"Say, how do you play this game?" River asked, curiously gazing at the dice.
"Hand over that ring and I'll show you," Foolduke's father said.
"Not happening," Willow said, pulling River away. "Star, maybe we should get going then. Hopefully we can find another way off this island."
"I got it under control," Star said, readying her pink cloud.
"Are you gonna be alright for now Foolduke?" Gus asked.
"I'll be fine, growing up here, you learn a thing or two about how to get around," Foolduke said. "I'll be fine. I just gotta win back the stuff Ruberiot lost. Maybe my pet monkey can help."
"You have a pet monkey?" Gus asked.
"He's a little guy with white hair-fur," Foolduke said, immediately worrying Maddie. "I haven't seen him, hopefully he's not scamming or pickpocketing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was."
"...Well maybe you'll find him, take care," Maddie said, placing an anti-petrification spell in Foolduke's hands.
"Uh, what's this for?" Foolduke asked.
"Oh, it's tradition in Wartwood where I'm from, when you leave someone's house, you give that someone an anti-petricication spell as a sign of good will."
"Huh? What for?" Foolduke asked.
"Because...social interaction can make people so uncomfortable they freeze up like they're petrified," Maddie said. "This is to show that I felt comfortable around you, hehe."
"Hm, well if it's tradition, then I'll take it," Foolduke said, much to the girl's relief. "Thanks Maddie."
"No problem," Maddie said, nervously making her exit." Let's hurry up Star, Queen Moon isn't going to find herself!"
Not too long later, Star and company were flying home on Star's companion Cloudy while the Princess still looked very depressed.
"So, what now?" Gus asked.
"Now, we sleep," River said, the man in tears and covering up. "Until the pain goes away!"
Star placed her head down in shame as tears strolled down while Willow did her best to cheer the girl up.
"Hey, don't be sad, things will work out," Willow gently stroked her back.
"Yeah, we'll get a new lead soon," Gus said, then overheard Star sniffling. "Uh, are you alright there?"
Star perked her head up, still sniffling, soon joined by her father as both sniffed the air.
"What's happening?" Gus asked.
"You smell that dad?" Star asked.
"Yes, I recognize that particular blend of cinnamon and cardamom anywhere!" River said.
"Foolduke's pies didn't smell like that, mom's here," Star said. "Cloudy, take us into that volcano."
"Okay!" Cloudy said, leading them toward the volcano.
"Wait, volcano!?" Gus asked. "I don't think this is a good idea!"
"Too late we're flying in!" Maddie said as Cloudy descended.
"Does everyone have their emergency captive meat?" River asked, pulling a drumstick out of his beard.
"Yes dad," Star stated in a deadpanned tone.
"Wait, seriously?" Gus asked. "Also should you be eating stuff you keep in your beard?"
"In dire times my boy, you will eat anything," River said, when suddenly everyone fell off after a hard thump.
"Whoops, sorry, I didn't see the ground there," Cloudy said.
"It's fine," Willow said, then noticed that Star had gone to look over a cliff.
"Whoa..." Star commented, seeing all the workers preparing their pies.
Maddie looked overhead, glancing at how everyone worked, "Something tells me my dad would love this place...aside from the fact that it's in a volcano and he will shrivel up like a raisin, but still."
"Are they using dirt?" Gus asked.
"Shush!" Star ordered, holding her ear out. "That song..."
"Song?" Gus asked. "You mean the humming?"
"It's her..." Star found who she was looking for. "It's really her!"
Indeed, one of the cooks below was Moon Butterfly, the woman seen placing several pies in the oven without a care in the world.
In Newtopia, the team was seen hiding in an abandoned store, Sprig looking out the window, "There's a whole lot of Toads out there."
"And we still have an army coming too," Hop Pop said.
"It's a full-on Toad rebellion," Marcy said.
"Wow, and just the other day we were fighting an army of Coven Guards," Kelly said. "Only this time, it's just us. Which is fine but it will require a lot of work, and we still have Sasha and her team to worry about."
"I don't suppose your dog friend is on standby?" Amity said.
"You mean Jorbie? Unfortunately not, sometimes he's off doing his own thing, we usually coordinate when it's time for battle," Kelly said. "And since our scissors got taken, we can't go to him for help."
"Or anyone for that matter," King added.
"Don't worry, I have a simple plan that will solve all of this," Marcy said, grabbing a telescope. "From the looks of things, I'd say it'd be about an hour before the rest of Grime's army arrives. We just need to close the gate before then before we're overrun."
"That is kind of simple actually," Amity said.
"But, there's a little bit more to that," Marcy said. "We also have to free King Andrias, defeat Sasha, Grime and The Magic High Commission, save Luz and Eda, work through our emotional baggage, ensure the mewman army doesn't get involved, and redesign the political system so this type of uprising never happens again!"
"Never mind...that isn't simple," Amity said. "But, it does need to be done. I mean that last part can be figured out by the politicians but everything else seems doable now."
"Are you sure about that, Amity?" Polly asked. "I'm not sure if we can pull this off."
"You can't mean that, Polly," Anne said. "Look, they may believe we're just a weak little frog family, a clumsy nerd, a big metal baby, a dorky witch, wannabe tough guy, a girl with poofy, a dog and a goofy push-over but they have no idea who they're dealing with."
"Wait, am I the wannabe tough guy, or is that King?" Marco asked.
"Depends, do you want to be 'the dog'?" King asked.
"Let Anne finish," Amity said.
"My point is that we've been through a lot so far," Anne said. "We recently saved Mewni from Emperor Belos and his Coven, we fought Meteora, we've had several adventures even before most of us knew each other. We've already been through a lot, and if there's one thing I learned from our friend Marco here is that nothing is impossible with the right kind of determination."
"You got that from me?" Marco asked.
"Of course, you didn't back down when it came to Meteora, or rescuing me and the girls from The Neverzone," Anne said. "If you can maintain that determination, so can I."
"Wow, guess I'm a good influence," Marco said. "So, do you have a plan, Anne?"
"Sure do, huddle up," Anne said.
For the first part of the plan, down in the Dungeon area as the guards watched over Andrias, Hop Pop made his presence known, alerting all of the guards.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing!" Many of the guards slowly approached while aiming their spears.
Hop Pop, now dressed like an olde theater actor, amped up the drama of his arrival, "I have lost my pet spider, Charlie Big Bottom!"
Nearby, Olivia along with Kelly and Marcy were keeping an eye out, the Lady newt looking annoyed.
"This will never work," Olivia said.
"Uh, you sure about that? Because, it looks like it is," Kelly said, gesturing to the fact that Hop Pop's performance was getting all the guards in tears and away from Andrias's cell.
"Hop Pop's good," Marcy said as she joined in sneaking to Andrias's cell.
Elsewhere while some Toads were playing cards, Polly landed on a set of them, armed with a tiny dagger, fully getting their attention, "Get ready for the pain!"
The Toads stared for a second before they started laughing at the sight of the little frog girl. Though the laughter died down the moment Yunan, Marco and Frobo showed up, each of them ready to fight.
"This wannabe tough guy, is a genuine tough guy!" Marco shouted, aiming his sword.
"Confidence is silent, Marco," Polly said.
"I wholeheartedly disagree with that," Yunan said as she leapt into attack. "Fear my power!"
Polly and Marco joined in the melee while Frobo used his missiles to attack, driving the enemies back.
Nearby Anne, along with Amity, Sprig and King were near the gate.
"Your plan's working perfectly, Anne," Spig said.
"That's good," Anne said, the girl looking up at the gate, feeling determined to end this. "Now lets get this gate shut down."
"Better make it fast, Luz is still at Sasha's mercy," Amity said, thinking back to her crush. "I hope she's alright."
"We'll save her, but if we don't stop the Toad army, we're going to be overwhelmed," Anne said. "Luz will be fine, I don't think anything really bad will happen to her."
"For all we know, she's probably about to free herself," King said. "Luz is really clever like that after all."
"I hope you're right," Amity said, following her team.
Once at the top, the four were quick to move the lever, but were having a hard time getting the door to close.
"This...isn't...working!" King said, trying to push.
"My little arms..." Sprig lamented before stopping.
"Why is this thing so heavy?" Anne asked. "Amity, can your Abomination thing move it?"
"Yeah, it should be able to work," Amity said, summoning her monster.
As she did that, Anne looked overhead and noticed something irritating, "There's a doorstop!"
"Wait really?" Amity asked, looking overhead. "Wow, that is a huge doorstop."
"Marco!" Anne called, getting the boy's attention. "Can you move that doorstop!?"
"How'd they even get a doorstop that big?" Marco wondered. "Eh, worry about that later. Team get this doorstop out of the way!"
"On it!" Polly said, as she along with Yunan and Frobo worked together to move it.
Meanwhile back in the throne room, Sasha was seen sadly playing with the music box while Luz sat near her chair, her hands and feet chained together.
The young witch girl constantly glanced towards the crystalized Eda, wondering if there was a way to free her mentor. Not that it mattered, she had no way to even escape. Not to mention she wasn't sure what was going to happen to Anne and the others.
"You look bored," Sasha said, getting her attention.
"Sorry, am I supposed to be feeling excited right now?" Luz sarcastically asked.
"Well, I guess not, I did take you prisoner," Sasha said. "I had plans to torture you too but...honestly I'm not even in the mood."
"Wow, how concerning..." Luz said. "So I'm just gonna be stuck sitting here because you're not in the mood to do anything."
"Hey if you want I can get you out of those clothes and into a skimpy bikini, probably make for some good eye candy," Sasha said.
"Creep," Luz said. "Though after how you treated Anne…"
"She's the one who hurt me! Telling me that she didn't want to be my friend, after everything I've done for her too," Sasha said.
