Chapter 7: New Friends, New Foes
Morning time came in Amphibia, and Marcy ready to return to Newtopia, even if for a short while. She grabbed whatever belongings she needed and hopped onto the faithful companion in Joe Sparrow.
"I'll be back soon, this shouldn't take too long," Marcy reassured.
"Take your time, and be safe traveling," Anne said.
"I will," Marcy said, then focused her attention to the Boiling Isles trio. "Would any of you like a sneak peak of Newtopia?"
"I can wait until we're officially there, plus I'd rather stay here for..." Luz glanced at Anne. "Reasons."
"I'll stay behind too, I'm still working on a grand entrance, one King must meet another in style after all," King said.
"I'll go," Eda offered, surprising her friends.
"You want to go there Eda?" Luz asked.
"Sure, kind of curious about this city, plus this King of theirs probably should see at least one of us, just so that he knows what to expect," Eda said. "That and I can throw in a few 'suggestions' for the official welcoming party."
"Will you be alright? I mean you don't normally care for royalty, or any kind of authority for that matter," King said.
"Oh come now, so I cause a bit of trouble for Belos and his crummy Kingdom, doesn't mean I'll trash every King I meet," Eda said. "Plus it sounds like this Andrias fellow is a bit more on the pleasant side."
"He's super nice, and very easy to get along with," Marcy said.
"Alright, you lead the way kid," Eda grabbed her Palisman. "Time to fly Owlbert."
"Be careful out there Eda! Stay close to Marcy!" Luz called out.
"Try not to let Eda cause any trouble, Marcy!" King warned.
"Get there safe Marcy! You too Eda!" Anne said.
"We'll be fine, see you later," Marcy said, flying off with Eda following behind her.
"Honestly, what's the point of them even going to Newtopia? We're all going there soon anyway," Polly said. "Might as well wait an extra day or two."
"Well Marcy has certain duties related to Newtopia anyway, she has to check on them in-person, plus she probably wants to be sure he can help Luz, King and Eda too," Anne said. "There's only so much you can do through letters, and Amphibia doesn't have phones. Not yet at least."
"Maybe some human technology can come here," Luz suggested. "I bet Amphibia would love to have TVs, video games and whatnot."
"I certainly wouldn't mind watching more Suspicion Island when the new season comes," Sprig said.
"Suspicion Island? Wait, you watch that show?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, it's one of my favorite shows," Anne said. "Do you watch it?"
"Uh...well, not exactly," Luz said. "Don't take this the wrong way but, I'm not a fan of Reality Shows."
"Oh, well that's cool, everyone has different tastes," Anne said.
"Really? It doesn't bother you?" Luz asked.
"Why would it? You're not being mean about it, you're just being honest," Anne said. "I don't like everything Sasha and Marcy like, and we're still friends."
"Well that makes sense," Luz said. "Sorry if this is weird, it's just that, well you know how my social life on Earth is."
"People judge you for the things you like and don't like?" Anne asked. "Yeah, that sounds like Earth culture, especially where I'm from. What's your town like anyway?"
"It's a quiet suburban area," Luz said. "Bit busy in places but not too bad, typical Connecticut village I guess."
"Lucky you, I mean I like living in Los Angeles, but man does it get busy," Anne said.
"Is it really as nice as the movies make it out to be?" Luz asked.
"Well it's not too glamorous for me since I live there, but the tourists like it," Anne said. "Guess it's not too different if either of us decide go to New York City, it'd be amazing to us but plain and ordinary to the locals."
"I doubt any New Yorker is tired of their city," Luz said. "But maybe it is because we're on the outside looking in. I mean I thought the Boiling Isles looked amazing, but to Eda and King, it's just home."
"A rotten home sometimes," King said.
"Oh it can't be that bad, bet it's better than here, so boring sometimes," Polly said.
"The grass is always greener elsewhere kids," Hop Pop interjected.
"Yeah, like Newtopia, that's a place I can live, so much livelier," Polly said.
"You say that now Polly, but that homesick feeling catches up," Anne said. "In time you'll wish you were back here in Wartwood."
"I can relate, the Boiling Isles is a great place but, I do miss my home sometimes, and my mom," Luz said. "The grass may always be greener, but being away from home makes you appreciate it more."
"Tell me about it," Anne said. "Though, honestly, this place has become a second home to me, it's gonna feel weird going back home. I get to see my mom but I'm gonna miss this place."
"That's sweet of you Anne, and we'd love it if you did stay with us," Hop Pop said. "But, it is important for you to go home, at least for now. I can only imagine how your parents feel, I'd feel the same if Sprig or Polly were away in another world."
"Would you really?" Polly asked. "I mean, I get you missing me, but would you actually miss Sprig?"
"Hey! I'm much more missable than you," Sprig said.
"That's not even a real word," Polly said.
"Real enough for me," Sprig said.
"Alright, can it you two. Believe it or not I'd miss you both equally, even if you do get on my nerves," Hop Pop said.
"You two are lucky to have such a caring grandfather," Luz said. "You do a great job taking care of these kids Mr. Plantar, Anne too."
"Call me 'Hop Pop' dear," the old frog said.
"Are you grandkids here for the summer? Or do you come and visit?" Luz asked.
"They live with me dear," Hop Pop explained. "Their parents...well, they passed on years ago, so I'm the one raising them."
"Oh...I'm sorry to hear," Luz said, the girl clenching her chest. "That must have been so hard for all of you."
"Well Polly and I were little when it happened, and I don't really have a lot of memories of my parents," Sprig said. "But yeah, it's a bummer."
"I do wonder what my mom was like, and what it'd be like to talk to her and my dad in person," Polly said.
"I do miss my son and his wife, but there was an incident in town, and I couldn't keep them safe," Hop Pop said. "I take pride in knowing I was able to protect their children, even if they don't have their parents, I know they'd want them to be safe and happy."
"I know how it feels to lose someone, I only have a mom myself," Luz said.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Anne said, placing her hand on Luz's shoulder. In hindsight, it did make sense as to why Luz didn't want to discuss her father before.
"It's fine, I mean I've mostly come to terms with it, it still hurts not having my dad though," Luz said.
"Well, I don't know your dad, but as a father myself, I know if I were gone, I'd want my family to still be happy," Hop Pop said. "Keep a smile on that face in honor of your dad."
"Exactly, pretty girls like us have to keep smiling, it pleases the world," Anne said, unintentionally making Luz blush.
"Yes, of course, thanks Anne, you too Hop Pop," Luz said.
"Man, all this talk of parents remind me, I still don't know anything about my own family," King said. "I'd love to meet my dad, wherever he is."
"You'll get that chance King, I'll make sure of it," Luz said.
"We'll help however we can," Sprig said. "Assuming we ever get to the Boiling Isles ourselves."
"We'll find a way," Anne said. "Isn't that right Luz?"
"Hopefully with the help of Amphibia's king," Luz said. "I just hope Eda behaves herself around him."
A bit later in Newtopia, Marco and Luz are seen strolling through town, taking in the sights of the busy city.
"Glad we were able to get out for a bit," Marco said. "I thought we were gonna be stuck in the castle all day."
"Would be better if that annoying Newt lady wasn't watching our every step," Amity said, gesturing to Yunan in the distance.
"Well we're still relatively new, let's just stay on our best behavior and earn their trust," Marco suggested.
"Yeah, sure," Amity said, still a bit annoyed.
"You know, compared to Mewni, the Crown City feels more...I don't know, secluded from the world," Marco said. "Maybe it's the walls or something. Is it like this back in the Boiling Isles?"
"No, but for a lot of witches back home, it feels like walls," Amity said. "Belos's castle is high above the city so he can look down on everyone. I mean, I never really saw it that way for most of my life since I was basically considered a noble, and I myself was too busy looking down on others, but thinking back, I can see why there were those who didn't care for Belos. Of course no one would say anything, word gets around really quickly."
"So I take it your parents are pretty chummy with that Belos guy," Marco said.
"In a way, yes, they are. It helps being rich," Amity said. "My family has a lot of pull on what happens on The Boiling Isles, not too long ago they tried getting my friends expelled all because they were 'a distraction'."
"A distraction?" Marco asked.
"I had to help my mom show off one of her inventions, things went wrong, I nearly got hurt and my mom threw a fit," Amity said. "She said I spent too much time with my friends and not enough time focusing on the family business."
"That's harsh," Marco said. "I mean it does sound like your mom was just concerned for your safety, but-"
"My mom doesn't give a damn about my safety, she just wants her company to look good," Amity said. "To my mom I'm just a successor, that's what she's been grooming me to be. I even had to look like her, hairstyle and all. It made me miserable! Ironically that misery turned me into a bully for a short time, so I nearly ended up as bad as my mom."
"Irony is a cruel fate," Marco said. "What matters is that you finally made your own choices, and I trust your friends didn't get expelled."
"No, Luz, Gus and Willow put up more of a fight than that," Amity said. "Plus my dad helped out too. He's actually not so bad, at the very least I can reason with him, and he shows a more caring side. Now he still seems to put his job first a lot of the time but he doesn't stress me out like my mom does. I mean you have no idea what type of woman she is."
"Well, I don't, but I know a woman who may have been as bad," Marco said. "Miss Heinous from St. Olga's School of Wayward Princesses."
"Just the name tells the story, but I imagine she was pretty terrible," Amity said. "Who is she anyway?"
"The caretaker of a school that tried to make Princesses all Prim and Proper and stuff, poor girls couldn't even do what they wanted to do, they had to follow a certain way of life" Marco said. "But I got it shut down by helping the girls start a revolution."
"You started a revolution? Wow, that takes guts," Amity said. "How are those Princesses now?"
"They seem to be doing well, at least that's what Pony Head said," Marco explained. "She still doesn't care for the place."
"I never got to meet this Pony Head girl, hopefully once we get back to Mewni then I'll get that chance," Amity said. "Is she nice?"
"Eh, I mean she's ok but she can be overwhelming, personality wise," Marco said. "She's no Janna but she's still a loud mouth, and very sassy."
"Well once we get back to Mewni, maybe I'll be able to see for myself," Amity said. "Speaking of which, I wonder if Star's noticed we're gone?"
"I wouldn't be surprised if she has, she's probably worried about us now," Marco said. "This sucks, we really should be there for her given everything that's happened with her family. I gotta find those scissors."
"Well, not all hope is lost, if those three girls were able to come here from Earth, that probably means there's other ways to travel," Amity said. "For all we know, Luz may have found a way back to the Boiling Isles as well, and she can help us get back to Mewni."
"We'll get our answers soon, first we need to get to this Wartwood place," Marco said.
"The name itself sounds gross, can't imagine what the town is like," Amity said.
"Oh it can't be so bad, it's just a name after all," Marco said, then overheard some newts shouting in joy as they looked into the sky. "What's going on?"
"I see a...giant bird," Amity said.
Marco looked up to see Joe Sparrow heading towards the castle, "Oh yeah...looks like someone's riding it, wonder who-"
"Marco! Look!" Amity interrupted, pointing to the witch lady flying by Joe's side.
"A lady on a broom?" Marco asked.
"It's Eda! Lilith's sister and Luz's caretaker!" Amity shouted in joy. "Also, that's not a broom, it's a Palisman. Remember witches ride those."
"Right, Palisman..." Marco's eyes widened. "Wait, if that's Eda, then does that mean..."
"Come on!" Amity said, pulling Marco towards the castle.
Inside the building, Marcy was leading Eda through the halls, excitingly bringing her over to the King, "Well, what do you think? Pretty cool huh? If you want I can tell you the historical significance of some places."
"Let's just try to stick with the goal in mind before we get into the nitty gritty," Eda said. "Tell me all you want afterwards."
"It's really cool stuff, I'm still learning myself, there's a lot Andrias still hasn't told me, but he said he's waiting for the right time," Marcy said. "I bet it's like in those books where the mentor reveals a great secret to the hero! Oh I'm so excited thinking about it!"
"You really remind me of Luz sometimes, you have that same excitable energy," Eda said. "It's cute, though a bit overwhelming."
"Hey, is there a reason you chose Luz as an apprentice?" Marcy asked. "Was it her magical potential? Like what makes you want an apprentice?"
"Huh? I didn't set out to become a teacher kid," Eda said. "I ran into Luz at a market where I was selling stuff that I sto-I mean found, and then she asked me to teach her how to become a witch. Truthfully I wasn't sure if she could do it, humans don't normally do magic. But she pulled it off, which was really impressive to me, and I don't impress easily. Now she lives at my place, honing her craft and getting better by the second."
"You sound so proud of her," Marcy said.
"Well yeah, Luz is a great kid, she's kind of like the daughter I wish I had," Eda said. "Huh, didn't expect to go all sappy there."
"No, I think it's sweet, I love the whole found family trope," Marcy said.
"The what?" Eda asked.
"Oh it's something I've seen in stories, and some anime," Marcy explained.
Eda looked momentarily confused, just before chuckling to herself. "Like I said, you really are like Luz. I can see why Anne likes you too, such a wonderous imagination, really clever too. You sure knew your stuff at that temple."
"I did my best, truth be told I felt more at home in the first temple, and even that messed with my mind a bit," Marcy said. "I did enjoy the challenge, though I would have liked it more if Anne and the Plantars weren't nearly killed."
"Eh, getting nearly killed builds character, worked for me, and it worked for Luz," Eda said.
"You know, I've been thinking, do you think I would have a good chance learning magic in The Boiling Isles?" Marcy asked. "I want to try going to that Hexside place."
"A year ago I would have laughed off the idea, but since Luz was able to learn magic, it's very possible you might be able to as well," Eda said.
"Sweet, The Boiling Isles is definitely my next stop," Marcy said. "Maybe I can convince Anne and Sasha to come too."
"What about your home though?" Eda asked. "Seems like Anne's going through a lot of trouble because she's homesick, I can't imagine she'd want to go to another world. Truthfully, it's difficult for a human to live there, honestly humans seem more likely to survive in Amphibia than The Boiling Isles."
"I can make it work, I mean Luz is fine, I should be too," Marcy said. "Plus, if she's going back, I kind of want to go with her, I feel like some special connection with her, like we're Kindred Spirits."
"But what about your family?" Eda asked.
"I gotta leave the nest sometime, don't I?" Marcy said. "They'll be fine, I doubt they're even that worried."
That statement did not sit well with Eda one bit, "What do you mean they're not worried? They're your parents. They love you."
"Pfft, if they loved me they wouldn't take away the things I love," Marcy subconsciously uttered aloud.
"Huh?" Eda asked.
Marcy shook her head, "Never mind, come in, King Andrias is just ahead."
Eda looked on in worry as the girl stomped ahead, hearing that such a young girl say something like that, it reminded her of the worst parts of her childhood, and some lingering regrets.
Moments later Marcy came through the doors where King Andrias remained on his throne, her presence getting his attention. "Marcy, what a surprise."
"Hi King Andrias, I just came to check in with you," Marcy said. "I trust you know that my friends completed the Calamity Box."
"Yes, I got your letter, and I must say, this is fantastic news! Soon we will unveil the box's mysteries," Andrias said, then noticed Eda coming into the room as well. "Oh, who's this?"
Marcy turned to the witch, "That's Eda Clawthorne, the witch I mentioned in my letter."
"Hello your majesty, hope you don't mind me coming over as well," Eda said.
"Oh, not at all, I was quite interested when I read Marcy's letter," Andrias said. "So you're from a place called 'The Boiling Isles', is that correct?"
"Yes, it was there I once held the title of Most Powerful Witch," Eda said. "Unfortunately life screwed me over, so I'm biding my time until I can get a little payback on life."
"Ha, what moxy you have," Andrias said. "To think that witches are real, oh how I'd love to see your world. Is it anything like this one?"
"I mean aside from the lack of walking and talking frogs, newts and toads, I'd say it's pretty similar," Eda said.
"Well I am glad you're here, see I received some interesting visitors last night, and one of them seemed to know you," Andrias said. "She also seemed to know the two you had come to this realm with."
"Wait, someone here knows me?" Eda asked. "Who could know me? I've never even heard of this place."
"This girl comes from the Boiling Isles as well, a young witch with purple hair, alongside a boy from Earth," Andrias said.
"Purple hair?" Eda asked, her eyes widening. "No way, could it be?"
"Eda!" Came Amity's voice, the girl running into the throne room with Marco right behind her.
"Amity?" Eda said, surprised to see the young witch. "Holy crap! You're actually here? How? When did this happen!?"
"It's a long story, but I'm so happy to see you!" Amity said, running over to Eda. "Lilith and I were so worried about you, and Hooty was a mess as well."
"Are they here too?" Eda asked.
"No, Hooty's back home and Lilith is in Mewni," Amity said.
"What's Mewni?" Eda asked.
"Like I said, long story," Amity said, then looked around the room. "Where's Luz?"
"Back in a town called Wartwood with King and some friends she made there," Eda said, then took note of Marco, the boy just standing there awkwardly. "Looks like you've made a friend too."
Amity turned back to the boy, "Yeah, that's Marco. I met him when I got stranded in another world trying to find you."
"Marco Diaz, nice to meet you miss..."
"Clawthorne, Eda Clawthorne," the witch lady introduced. "But you can stick with 'Eda' I'm not one for formalities."
"Right, Eda it is," Marco said. "So, you're Lilith's sister?"
"Sure am, she tell you anything about me?" Eda asked.
"Only that you're very free spirited," Marco said.
"Well she's not too far off," Eda said. "So, you're from Earth too huh?"
"Yeah, I am," Marco said. "A town called Echo Creek."
"Never heard of it, is it near a town called Gravesfield?" Eda asked.
"No, not that I know of," Marco said. "Oh wait, is that where Luz is from?"
"Guess so, not that it matters now, she wasn't on Earth," Amity said. "Hey Eda, how did you even get here?"
"Something went wrong with Luz's spell," Eda said. "We ended up in this world instead of Earth, that's where we met Anne and The Plantars."
"Anne?" Amity asked, remembering the name.
"Yeah, Marcy's friend," Eda said, then realized something awkward as she turned to Marcy. "Oh, sorry kid, didn't mean to forget about you."
"It's fine," Marcy said.
"Who is she?" Amity asked.
The girl stepped over to the young witch, "I'm Marcy Wu, I think I caught that your name was Amity."
"Yeah, Amity Blight," the girl introduced. "And I trust that you caught that my friend's name is Marco."
The boy in question waved, "Hi Marcy, I heard about you from King Andrias."
Marcy was speechless a moment, just staring at Marco with a hint of a blush on her face, "Uh..." She bashfully turned away, "Nice to meet you Marco, welcome to Amphibia."
Marco looked a bit confused by Marcy's reaction, so was Amity for a moment before she started to piece things together. Even Eda seemed to take note of Marcy's reaction, a suspecting look etched onto her face.
"Uh, well now that we're all here, maybe we should get going to Wartwood," Marco suggested. "Unless you had more to do here."
"R-right, we probably should get you both to Wartwood," Marcy said. "I know Luz is gonna be happy to see her friend, one of them at least."
"How is she holding up?" Amity asked.
"She's fine, she's getting used to this world but she and Anne are really hitting it off as friends," Marcy said.
"Right, Anne..." Amity said, feeling a bit suspicious.
"Uh, is something wrong?" Marcy asked.
"No, it's nothing, just...this Anne girl, is she nice?" Amity asked.
"Amity..." Marco said, worrying the girl will start showing signs of jealousy.
"I'm just making sure Luz really is in good company, she's very near and dear to me after all," Amity said.
"You got nothing to worry about, Anne's a great kid, really spunky and full of life," Eda said. "Heck of a swordfighter too, at least from what I hear."
"Anne's a very caring girl, always looks out for her friends, especially me since I used to be something of a clutz," Marcy said. "Still am from time to time, but I feel like I've gotten better. Still, it's nice to have a girl like Anne who's always watching your back."
"Well, as long as she's nice," Amity said, still feeling worried. "Have you or Anne, you know, bonded well with Luz?"
"Well yeah, me and Anne basically welcomed her into our group of friends, she seemed pretty thrilled to have human girlfriends to hang out with," Marcy said.
"Girlfriends!?" Amity asked.
"Yes! Girlfriend! What girls who are just friends call each other!" Marco said, hoping to deflate the situation before Amity started making assumptions. "Which is weird because I don't get why girls do that, boys don't say boyfriends, which I must admit might be a double standard but hey, what do I know about girls and how they think, huh? Am I right?"
This garnered a brief but awkward silence from Marco, the poor boy doing everything he can to calm Amity's worries, even if it's turning out to be more trouble than he would have liked.
"Something tells me you're going to be fun to be around," Eda said, further embarrassing Marco.
"Let's get a move on," Marcy said, then turned to Andrias. "That is, if there's nothing else you need. I did come to offer some assistance to the town but-"
"No that's quite alright, this seems much more important," Andrias said. "Take your new friends here to see your other new friends, enjoy Amphibia and come back in a few days with the Calamity Box. I promise to get all of you home, safe and sound."
"Something we could do much easier if we found those scissors," Marco muttered.
"You say something, kid?" Eda asked.
Marco shook his head, "It's nothing, just muttering to myself."
"Alright, the sparrow's outside, he'll bring us to the village," Marcy said.
"Sparrow?" Marco asked.
Moments later the four are seen flying through the air, Eda on her Palisman while Marcy, Amity and Marco, sitting together in that order, flew on Joe Sparrow.
"This is cool! And a bit scary!" Marco said.
"If you think this is scary, try riding that Palisman that Eda's on," Amity said.
"I would love to ride one someday," Marcy said. "Is it hard?"
"You kind of need to know magic, are you a magical human?" Amity asked.
"I want to be," Marcy said. "Is it difficult?"
"Well yeah thing is that witches like me have Magic Bile Sacs attached to our hearts, that's what allows us to do magic," Amity explained.
"That sounds kind of gross," Marco said, getting an elbow to the gut from Amity in response.
"No one asked you," Amity said, then focused back on Marcy. "However, my friend Luz is capable of doing magic using glyphs."
"Oh you meant those weird drawings she does?" Marcy asked.
"Yeah, sounds like she's shown you," Amity said.
"Oh yeah, totally came in handy when fighting that golem in that volcano," Marcy said.
"Good so her glyphs work as-" Amity's eyes then widened in surprise, "Pardon me? What golem? What volcano?"
"Oh me, Luz and Anne went on an adventure together, with Eda, King and The Plantars," Marcy said. "We reunited with our friend Sasha and her new buddy Grime to conquer the last temple to get the magic we need to go back home."
This garnered some worry from the young Blight girl, "Uh, how often has Luz been in danger in this world?"
"Well, that's the only thing I've seen, but Anne said on her first day here, the two worked together to defeat a badger bug," Marcy said. "Then they ran for their lives from more bugs."
"What kind of weird creatures are in this world?" Marco asked.
"Oh, a lot, I can show you later, if you want," Marcy said, the girl trying to play it cool.
"Let's focus on getting to Wartwood, is it much further?" Amity asked.
"Just a few more minutes, Luz will be so happy to see you," Marcy said. "And wait until you meet Anne! She's really fun to hang out with, Luz already likes her a lot."
"Is that right?" Amity asked, trying to force a smile.
"Take a chill pill, Amity," Marco whispered. "Luz just has a new friend, that's a good thing."
"Still, I'd like to see this girl," Amity whispered back.
"Uh, is everything alright with you two?" Marcy asked.
"Everything's fine, just some friendly banter," Amity said.
"Amity's just excited to see Luz, they're really close," Marco said. "I take it you're close with your friends."
"Yeah, we're like super close, three best buds," Marcy said. "Uh, do you have any close friends like that?"
"Oh yeah, my friend Star and I are really close," Marco said.
"Star?" Marcy nervously asked. "Uh, is that a boy's name or a girl's name."
"Star's a girl," Marco said, causing some mild disappointment for Marcy. "She's basically my best friend."
"Just your best friend?" Marcy asked, before realizing what she said. "I mean, not that you have to answer or anything, I'm just curious."
"Uh, yeah, pretty much just my best friend," Marco said. "If she were more than that, then her boyfriend would be pretty ticked."
"Oh, she has a boyfriend," Marcy said, feeling relieved. "Uh, what's he like?"
"Well he used to hate me, and tried to kill me with his demonic powers," Marco said. "But we're cool now."
Marcy almost couldn't believe what she heard, "Demon boyfriend?"
"I saw a demon girl, she's super annoying," Amity said.
"Are you talking about Hekapoo?" Marco asked, before realizing something important. "Oh crap! Hekapoo! What's she gonna say when she finds out I lost one of her scissors!?"
"Not like she's gonna know right away, I mean she has no way to get to Amphibia, at least willingly since she likely never heard of this place," Amity said.
"Hekapoo's been around, she might know of this place," Marco said.
"Well I don't doubt that she's, 'been around'," Amity said, using her fingers for quotes. "That still doesn't mean she'll think to come here."
"Uh, who's Hekapoo?" Marcy asked.
"A girl who constantly travels through different dimensions," Marco said. "Using a special pair of scissors to do so, which is how Amity and I got here."
"She's also very judgmental," Amity said.
"Yeah, she can be at times," Marco said. "But she's pretty cool when she's not."
"Are you two close?" Marcy asked.
"I mean I did gain her respect after chasing her through the multiverse to get a pair of scissors," Marco said. "Boy that took forever."
"Anyone would respect that," Amity said. "Even Hekapoo. Still, hard to imagine you two as friends."
"It's hard for me too, honestly at one point I could have sworn she was hitting on me," Marco said.
Amity raised her eyebrow at that response, "Isn't she like thousands of years old though? That's kind of creepy."
"I honestly forget, she looks my age," Marco said.
"Ah the young girl who's actually ancient trope," Marcy said. "Very common in anime, especially if the girl's secretly a dragon."
"How popular is anime on Earth, Luz mentions it a lot," Amity said. "She kept talking about Dragon Claw Z."
"Dragon Claw Z!? I love that show! It's what inspired me to be a martial artist!" Marco said, doing some karate gestures. "This isn't even my final form!"
Marcy started giggling at Marco's zaniness, "That's awesome, personally I liked reading Cynthia Coven so that made me interested in magic."
"That book again, sounds really popular on Earth," Amity said.
"It is," Marcy said. "It's funny how we're able to live out our greatest fantasies, what was once fiction has become reality."
"Sure is, and...uh, is that a giant dragonfly?" Marco asked, gesturing to the giant bug.
"That it is," Marcy said. "We should..."
"Fly faster?" Marco asked.
"Yeah..." Marcy said, then leaned in toward the bird's ear. "Pick up the pace Joe!"
The bird flew with the bug trailing them. Of course Eda wasn't gonna take that.
"Don't you threaten those kids bug breath!" Eda readied some magic as she flew in for battle. "Time to taste fire!"
Meanwhile in Mewni, Lilith was outside in the courtyard, trying to practice her glyph magic while under the watchful eye of the guards. She hoped to have assistance from Amity but she wasn't anywhere to be found, likely in town with Marco again, Lilith amazed and pleasantly surprised by how close the two have grown.
As she read through the notes she made, she found herself joined by another magic user, "Lilith."
The witch turned to see Mewni's Princess, "Oh, Star, how are you feeling today?"
"A little better than yesterday, but not by much," Star said. "I really don't know what to do regarding this Eclipsa thing."
"Well, what can be done?" Lilith asked. "What are you hoping to accomplish?"
"Justice or something, I don't know," Star said. "It's just so frustrating, the only reason my family are I are in power is because of lies and manipulation."
"None of which is your fault," Lilith said.
"I know it's not, so why do I feel so rotten? I almost feel like I'm the one who gave away Eclipsa's baby," Star said.
"But, you didn't," Lilith said. "The fact that you care this much proves you aren't rotten, you're just very caring and empathetic, at least in my opinion," Lilith said. "You just feel betrayed, and I understand that feeling."
"You do? Were you betrayed once?" Star asked.
"No...I did the betraying," Lilith said. "I hurt someone I cared about once. We made peace but I still feel terrible about it, that's why I work hard to earn the forgiveness I was given."
"Is this about your sister? I know you two have a really...not so great past," Star said.
"It's more than that," Lilith said, recalling the day of her duel with Eda for the final spot in a Coven. "I just let my jealousy and my worries get the better of me, and well...things happened."
"You know, you seem like a really nice lady, it's hard to imagine you would do anything bad," Star said. "But maybe it's because you're so nice that you can't stay bad. Whatever happened between you and your sister, well I'm glad you worked things out. I don't have siblings but even I couldn't stand the thought of having a bad relationship over a mistake. I mean families forgive mistakes, don't they?"
"If only you can tell that to my sister," Lilith absent-mindedly said.
"Huh? What for?" Star asked.
Lilith realized she may have given away something personal, "It's nothing...You know, you're a sweet girl, you almost remind me of Luz. Same lovable energy, always willing to do what's right, very sympathetic towards others."
"Amity talks about Luz a lot, they must be really good friends," Star said.
"Luz makes Amity happy, she makes a lot of witches happy, and in our world, happiness is a blessing, especially for those in The Emperor's Coven," Lilith said.
"How bad is this emperor guy anyway? What does he do?" Star asked.
"Terrible things, he's a manipulator and he takes pleasure in the torment of others," Lilith said. "His rule makes life hard for many in The Boiling Isles. I thought I would be happy in his Coven; all it did was expose me to terrible truths."
"Gee, maybe Hekapoo and her Commission of Jerks can switch over to The Boiling Isles, and you can take over here, at least you're honest," Star said. "Honest now, I know you said you made mistakes in the past but I don't recall seeing any of the Commission regret their actions. Except Rhombulus maybe, but I'm still disappointed in him."
"I'd be delighted to, but I really should return home when I get the chance to," Lilith said.
"I don't blame you, Amity wants to go back too, and it should be easy with the scissors, I don't know why Hekapoo's so worried, that girl is so suspicious sometimes," Star said. "Maybe it's my-"
Suddenly a fiery portal opened, startling Lilith as a demon came through, "Star behind you!"
Star turned to the oncoming boy, "Hey Tom, what's up?"
"Tom?" Lilith asked, taking note of this demon teenager.
"Hey Star, got your message," Tom said.
"Star, you know this boy?" Lilith said.
"Yeah, this is my boyfriend, Tom Lucitor," Star introduced. "Tom, this is Lilith Clawthorne."
"Oh, boyfriend," Lilith said. "I think I've heard about you. It's nice to formally meet you."
"Same..." Tom took curious note of Lilith. "Are you a witch?"
"Oh, you can tell?" Lilith asked.
"Yeah, you look like a witch from The Boiling Isles," Tom said.
"You know that place?" Star asked.
"I went by once to get some ingredients for mom, neat place," Tom said. "So what brings a witch here?"
"Big misunderstanding," Star said. "Anyway, can we talk?"
"Sure, um where's Marco?" Tom asked.
"Not sure, I haven't seen him at all last night or this morning, same with Amity," Star said.
"Who?" Tom asked.
"A witch girl that came with Lilith," Star explained. "She and Marco hang out a lot."
"Oh I see, sounds like Marco found himself a cute witch to date, good on him," Tom said.
Star rubbed her chin, "Huh, I never considered the idea of them dating, I mean she said she's not interested but Marco does have a way with girls."
"Let them have fun," Tom said. "Who knows, maybe you and I can go on an adventure together for once if this Amity girl keeps Marco's attention."
"That sounds great, come on, let's talk," Star said as she left.
"Young love, it's romantic," Lilith said, checking her glyphs again. "I should get back to training, if Belos is coming here, I must be ready to help the Butterfly Family protect this castle."
Back in Amphibia, Sasha is seen walking through the town of Wartwood towards the Plantars' home, noticing that many of the frogs seemed bothered by the sight of her. Of course she tried not to let it bother her, they were just a bunch of frogs after all, nothing that really mattered to her.
She finally arrived, spotting the family playing with a hacky sack ball. Of course Luz and King were with them, and something about the two just infuriated Sasha. Mostly Luz, Sasha didn't have many strong feelings against King aside from his mere association with the new girl.
Regardless of her circumstance, she hated that Luz seemed to just assert herself in her friendship circle, one she felt was fine as it was. Just her, Anne and Marcy, despite the differences, she does care about her two friends, even if she has to be tough on them on occasion. Granted things are slightly different with Anne showing more backbone, she still respected her friend and was happy to know she could stand up for herself, which would make certain decisions she was about to make very interesting. She only hoped that in time, Anne and Marcy could forgive her.
With Luz around, she felt almost threatened. She didn't appreciate being told off, not once, but twice, within a matter of days of meeting Luz. If she could, she'd find a way to send her packing all the way back to the island she came from, or Earth for that matter. Deep down, Sasha was worried that Luz could ruin the plans that she and Grime have been working on, while she could handle Anne if the two ended up in combat, and she definitely knew she could take Marcy, Sasha wasn't foolish enough to believe Luz wouldn't be more of a challenge. Her magic is no joke, and to hear she's only getting started on her potential did not put Sasha at any ease.
She had to do something, she would not allow Luz, or Eda for that matter to ruin everything she and Grime have been working on, she had to find some way to get rid of them, but that would be hard, especially with how attached Luz and Anne have grown onto each other. Of course part of her feels like it shouldn't matter, they've only been friends for a couple of days, Anne shouldn't care that much about her. Then again, Anne fought her off just to protect the Plantars, a family she's only known for a little bit, the girl certainly wears her heart on her shoulder, that much is obvious. But now she had to figure out what else she could do.
"Hey that girl's been standing around and glaring angrily at us for like two minutes," King said, gesturing to Sasha. "Is that normal?"
"Oh she always looks like that, Anne said it's natural, but I'm very certain she's imagining a painful demise for all of us," Sprig said.
"It's kind of her thing," Polly said.
"Uh-huh...and how exactly is a nice girl like Anne friends with a scary girl like Sasha?" King asked. "I'm willing to bet she could scare the daylights out of any demon back home, maybe out of Belos himself. I mean, what if she is a demon in her own right? That might actually make a lot of sense."
"You know I can hear you!" Sasha shouted. "Little twerp!"
Luz overheard and took notice of Sasha, "Well look who's back."
"Hey, Sasha!" Anne greeted.
"Hey Anne...Hi Luz," Sasha greeted, taking a look around. "Where's Marcy?"
"She had to stop by Newtopia to speak to King Andrias, she took Eda with her to show her the city and introduce her to Andrias and see if he knew anything about The Boiling Isles," Anne said.
"Sweet, does that mean he could probably send them back home?" Sasha asked.
"Hopefully we can all go home," Anne said.
"How long as she been gone?" Sasha asked.
"Few hours, not sure when she'll be back, could be a while," Anne said.
"More like right now, look," Sprig said, gesturing to the oncoming Joe Sparrow with Eda by his side.
The older witch woman landed close to the girls, a big smile on her face as she dusted off some soot, "Sup kids?"
"Eda, what happened?" Luz asked.
"Some bug trouble, managed to squash it," Eda chuckled to herself. "Get it?"
"Yeah..." Luz said, trying to imagine what could have happened.
"By the way Luz, you'll never guess who I ran into in Newtopia," Eda said.
"Anyone interesting?" Luz asked.
"It wasn't a bartender, was it?" King asked, much to Eda's annoyance.
"Come on, I wouldn't fly my Palisman right after drinking...again," Eda said.
"Who did you run into Eda?" Luz asked.
"See for yourself kid," Eda said.
She gestured to the purple haired girl who had gotten off the sparrow, the young witch immediately taking sight of the friend she traveled dimensions just to see again, "Luz..."
The young witch in training couldn't believe her eyes, "Amity..."
Amity immediately dashed over to the human she's grown so fond of, "Luz!"
"Amity!" Luz held her arms out and let Amity jump into them, both girls embracing in a hug as Luz twirled her friend around, the two laughing in relief as the others stood by from their reunion. Marcy and Marco had also gotten off the bird, the former happy to see Luz reunite with her friend, the latter taking it in as well.
"That's so sweet, I love the reunited friend trope," Marcy said.
"I haven't seen Amity that happy since I met her," Marco said.
Amity eventually pulled away from Luz, the girl with tears of joy in her eyes, "I really can't believe I found you. I thought you were lost in the Human Realm."
"I tried to go there, then I ended up here somehow," Luz said.
"You must have been so worried; how did you even get here?" Amity asked.
"I don't know, but I'm fine, really, thanks to Anne," Luz said.
"Anne?" Amity did remember hearing about her.
"That's me," the girl in question said. "I'm Anne Boonchuy, and from the sound of things, you must be Amity."
Amity took a good look at Anne, from the messy hair with leaves and twigs, the fact that she only had one shoe on, and the dirty schoolgirl uniform she was wearing. Somehow Amity felt relieved, there was nothing attractive about this girl at all, "Yeah, I'm Amity Blight."
"Wow, another witch," Sprig said, walking over to Amity, startling her a bit. "I'm Sprig, this girl is my sister Polly."
"I like your hair," Polly commented.
"Oh, thanks," Amity said, fluffing it a bit.
"I'm Hopediah Plantar, their grandfather," the older frog introduced. "You may call me Hop Pop."
"Nice to meet you, Hop Pop," Amity said, before noticing another familiar face. "King! You're here too."
"Sure am, how are things back home? How's Hooty?" King asked.
"Well, aside from panicking because you left without notice, he's probably fine," Amity said, hoping that to be the case.
"Poor Hooty, I know how much he worries," Luz said. "How did you get here? Did you bring anyone else? Does Lilith know about us?"
"Lilith knows too, and she did try coming with me to help find you but...things got complicated," Amity said.
"Complicated how?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, where's my sister?" Eda asked.
"Let's go inside, she can explain everything there," Anne said. "Get her some food, in case she's hungry."
"That sounds like a good idea," Luz said, taking note of Marco standing near Marcy. "Also, who's that boy?"
Before Amity could introduce Marco, Sasha cleared her throat to get her attention, "Excuse me, is anyone gonna tell me who this is?"
"Oh, right, Sasha," Luz said, turning to the blonde. "Amity, meet Sasha."
Amity took note of Sasha's features, long, wavy blond hair, heavy battle armor, a sword. There's no denying it, this girl looked awesome, and on top of that, she's really attractive. "Uh...hi, I'm Amity. Luz's friend."
"How nice for you," Sasha said. "So, you're a witch too then?"
"Yeah, I am," Amity said. "Are you some type of warrior?"
"You can say that, I'm the First Lieutenant of the Toad Army," Sasha introduced.
"Wow, so young too, though the Golden Guard is around our age so it's not that surprising," Amity said. "Oh right, I can't forget about him."
"Wait, is he here too?" Luz asked.
"No, but he did try following me," Amity said. "Looks like I have a lot to explain inside."
"Before you do that, maybe introduce your friend here?" Eda said, gesturing to Marco.
"A boy?" Anne asked.
"You know him, Amity?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, I do." Amity ran to his side, "Everyone, meet Marco Diaz."
"Hi everyone, nice to meet you," Marco said.
"He's from Earth too!" Marcy said. "He's on an Isekai adventure just like we are."
"He's cute," Polly said. "Anne, go make yourself presentable, maybe he'll ask you out."
"Polly!" Anne shouted in annoyance, before nervously laughing, "Ignore her, she's silly."
"It's fine, similar has happened to me," Marco said, feeling just as awkward.
"Come on in," Hop Pop said, gesturing everyone inside, "We have some guests to introduce ourselves to."
Amity walked inside the home, taking a look around, "Looks cozy."
"Yeah, it is, been my home for the last two days," Luz said.
"Been mine for a few months," Anne said.
Marco also walked in, taking a quick look around, "Looks like a normal country home."
"Cool aesthetic, huh?" Marcy said.
"Yeah, that it is," Marco replied.
"So, Amity, catch everyone up to speed," Eda said.
"Right," Amity took a look around. "Ok, question for those who just met me, did Luz tell you about The Boiling Isles?" Amity asked.
"Sure did, mentioned that you're a friend of hers, something about an evil emperor, and cool magic stuff," Anne said.
"Alright, that covers the basics at least," Amity said. "For starters, I am Luz's friend, we both attend the same school, Hexside Academy, a place where witches learn their craft."
"The magic school!" Marcy excitedly said.
"Yeah, magic school," Amity said. "Of course I met Luz prior to her joining."
"You're not gonna tell us your whole life story are you?" Sasha asked.
"Sasha!" Anne scolded. "Sorry about her, she's a 'to the point' kind of girl."
"In more ways than one," Sasha said, showing off one of her daggers.
"Where's that Toad guy who's supposed to keep you under control?" Luz asked.
"He has a life of his own, and so do I," Sasha said. "And before anyone asks, he's not causing trouble, he's probably shopping for supplies to strengthen and polish our weapons, perfectly normal."
"Wow, you take being a warrior seriously," Amity said.
"You remind me of my friend Kelly, except her sword's bigger," Marco said. "Actually, you remind me more of Mina Loveberry. I feel like if the three of you got together, you'd make one unstoppable trio."
"Thanks...I do not know who any of those two are, but if they're badasses like me, then I'll take the compliment," Sasha said.
Luz groaned in annoyance, "Go on Amity."
"Right..." Amity could tell Luz was not fond of this girl, so that at least removes more competition. "My point is this, I went to Eda's house the other day to talk to Luz about...stuff." Both girls blushed a bit, though Amity resumed before anyone could notice. "Then I saw that she was gone, with a note saying that they went to Earth."
"Wish I knew sooner that the portal wasn't to Earth," King said.
"Well what's done is done, anyway Lilith and I went to the Emperor's Coven where he was opening a portal to a place called Mewni," Amity continued.
"Hold on, he made a portal?" Eda asked.
"He wanted an army, probably to invade Earth, so with the help of a girl named Hekapoo, he found out about Mewni and wanted to use a portal to get help from a guy named Toffee," Amity said.
"Who is dead, so I don't know how he could help Belos," Marco said.
"Point is, I jumped through the portal with Lilith and we ended up in Mewni where I met Marco and his friend, Princess Star Butterfly," Amity said.
"A real Princess!?" Polly asked. "Was she pretty?"
"Yes, very pretty, and full of energy," Amity said.
"Genki girl!" Marcy said, getting a confused reaction from Amity.
"It means she's super excitable," Luz said.
"Oh that's an understatement, Star radiates energy, results in occasional clumsiness, so I have to be there to help her out," Marco said.
"Sounds like me and Marcy back in the day," Anne said.
"I've gotten better since then, right Anne?" Marcy said.
"So much better," Anne said.
"Well point is, Lilith and I got followed by The Golden Guard and Kikimora, and on top of that Mewni didn't trust us at first, so we weren't allowed to leave the castle, not yet anyway," Amity said. "I mean it was fine, Marco here kept me company and Star was very hospitable."
"We bonded very quickly," Marco said.
"How did you get to this world?" Anne asked.
"Dimensional Scissors," Amity said. "They can cut a hole into any dimension you imagine. Marco heard about Amphibia from a guard at Mewni's castle and used his imagination to get us to Newtopia, where we got ambushed by a newt named Yunan."
"Did she do a long winded introduction?" Sasha asked.
"Yes, sounds like you met her before," Amity said.
"Yeah, I totally showed her up too, she had no ides who she was messing with," Sasha bragged.
Amity gave a thumbs up, "Good for you." She continued her story, "Anyway, we got caught but luckily King Andrias was understanding since we brought up knowing Luz, a name he recognized from Marcy's letter. So that's how we got here, by pure luck."
"So, Lilith is still in this Mewni place?" Eda asked.
"Yes, fortunately Star seems to like her, and the King and Queen don't mind her presence," Amity said. "It's Hekapoo I'm worried about."
"She's really not that bad, just more misunderstood," Marco said.
"Gee, where have I heard that from before," Luz said, side-eyeing Sasha.
"I can see you glancing at me, you wanna lose that eye?" Sasha warned.
Amity immediately glared at Sasha, looking like she was about to do something when Marco stopped her, "Take it easy, don't start a fight." Despite her frustration, she calmed herself, not taking her eyes off Sasha. Marco hadn't forgotten her either. "Um, Sasha, I can tell you've got the warrior's spirit, but we are all supposed to be friends here. And friends don't threaten other friends like that."
"Hey I don't need you lecturing me too, I get enough of that from Luz," Sasha said.
"I'm not lecturing, I'm just trying to be friendly," Marco said. "You seem like a nice girl, and I just want to keep you out of trouble."
"Don't bother, she won't listen," Luz said.
"And there she goes again, acting like she knows me," Sasha said.
"Hey I thought you two made peace last night! Why are you fighting again!?" Anne asked.
"How long has this been going on?" Amity asked.
"Since we met," Luz said.
"You kept judging me!" Sasha said.
"Because you keep giving me reason to!" Luz shouted.
"Alright, that's enough!" Hop Pop interrupted. "No more fighting in this house. Sasha, Luz, you two don't have to like each other but I expect you young ladies to be respectful."
"But Hop Pop," Luz interrupted.
"Luz, let him finish," Eda warned, much to Luz's annoyance.
"Now Luz, you're a nice, responsible girl, so I expect better from you than to behave this way," Hop Pop said. "I know things are tense and you come from a good place with your anger-"
"What good place?" Sasha asked, though one glare from Eda silenced her, though she tried playing it off. "Whatever."
"As I was saying," Hop Pop continued. "If you have a problem, take a breath, count to three, and think it over. You can say what's on your mind in a way that won't make things worse, alright dear?"
"Yes Hop Pop, I'll remember that," Luz said.
"As for you Sasha, I know we have a troubled past, and maybe the other night we made you feel worse than you should have, but you do need to acknowledge your mistakes and accept that it might be hard for some people to trust you," Hop Pop said. "This is your first time meeting Amity and Marco, and you're getting off to a bad start with them. At least try to mind your emotions, if you feel bothered, then take a breath of fresh air, chop some wood with your sword if you have to, anything other than fighting, alright dear?"
"Sure, I'll do my best," Sasha said, halfheartedly agreeing.
"Alright, now Amity, is that all you had to say?" Hop Pop asked.
"Yeah, pretty much," Amity confirmed.
"You mentioned something about scissors that travel dimensions," Anne said. "Do you still have them?"
"No, I lost them when fighting Yunan," Marco said. "So we're stranded here."
"There's always something," Anne said. "Not that it matters, with the Calamity Box restored, maybe it can get you back to Mewni as well. Of course I don't know if it can, I'm just spit balling."
"Where did you lose those scissors?" Sasha asked.
"Near the castle moat, for all I know it fell into the water," Marco said.
"Oh, well the water isn't that deep, maybe you can still find them," Anne said.
"Right after we bring the box to Kind Andrias," Marcy said. "And that is if he can't send you home that way, I mean do you need the scissors?"
"Well I kind of do, no way Hekapoo will give me another pair," Marco said.
"We'll get those scissors back, for now we'll go with Anne's plan," Amity said. "When do we take this Calamity Box thing to King Andrias?"
"A few days," Anne said. "So until then, I guess you're residents of Wartwood."
"Is there a hotel to stay at?" Marco asked.
"Unless there's more room in the basement," Luz said.
"I can take them back to Newtopia," Marcy suggested.
"Let's figure that out in a bit, I'm gonna prepare us some dinner," Hop Pop said.
Amity leaned over to Luz, speaking in a hushed tone, "How edible is the food here?"
"Edible enough, though Hop Pop is a really good cool so you and Marco should be fine," Luz said.
"Alright," Amity said, hoping for the best.
Marco stopped to look outside the window, taking in the sight of the town, "Maybe Buff Frog can be happy here. Seems like a nice town, if not here then maybe Newtopia. Could be a nice change of pace for him."
"Yo, Marco," Anne said, getting his attention.
"Uh, hi, sorry I was admiring the town," Marco said.
"Yeah, it's not too bad is it?" Anne said. "What's Mewni like compared to here?"
"Not too different from Newtopia, except with more human like people there," Marco said. "Sounds like you've had a lot of time to adjust here."
"Yeah, it wasn't easy either, you, me and Luz really got taken out of our elements," Anne said.
"Someone mention me?" Luz said, making her way over. "I saw you two staring out the window, is everything alright?"
"Just reminiscing and relating to one another," Anne said. "Realizing we've done more than most humans have done, and at our age too."
"Yeah, not many humans have interacted with witches," Luz said.
"Or with anthromorphic frogs," Anne said.
"Or...have the stuff I've seen," Marco said.
"Hey, Marco, thanks for keeping Amity company," Luz said. "That was nice of you."
"I understood her position, she's a good friend to have," Marco said. "She's also quite fond of you."
"I'm fond of her too," Luz said. "She's a really nice girl."
"Sure seems like one," Anne said. "Always good to have more friends, I think we'll all get along really nicely."
"I like your optimism," Marco said. "Think it'll include that Sasha girl?"
"I think so, she just needs a little warming up to," Anne said.
"Sounds like an understatement," Marco said.
Luz rolled her eyes in annoyance, she doesn't think she could ever like Sasha, and it seems like now both Marco and Amity don't seem to care for her.
"So Marco, are you gonna tell us more about this other friend of yours? You mentioned her name is Star, does she know you're here?" Anne asked.
Marco shook his head, "No, and I can tell this is gonna worry her. She already has a lot on her mind as it is."
"Sorry it might take some time, but we'll get you back to her," Anne said.
"Yeah, we promise," Luz said. "Least I can do after what you did for Amity."
Anne felt her stomach rumble, blushing a bit from the feeling, "We should go eat."
"Yeah, sounds great," Marco said.
Meanwhile, Amity noticed that Marcy kept glancing toward Marco, the girl blushing each time. "So, Marcy...what do you think of Marco?"
"Huh?" Marcy reacted immediately "Uh, he's nice."
"You know, he's a really nice boy, and he's single," Amity said.
"Single?" Marcy excitedly asked, then cleared her throat in an attempt to recompose herself. "That's nice...I guess."
"You should get to know him more, this might be your big chance," Amity said, leaning in to whisper. "And if you ever want privacy, let me know, I'll make sure you get it."
"Uh...great," Marcy said, trying to hide her blush. "Appreciate that."
Amity grinned in satisfaction as she went to grab a plate, Marcy doing the same but now with much more on her mind.
Meanwhile in the Boiling Isles, Willow and Gus had met up in the latter's room, with Hooty joining them, the two having spend all day yesterday trying to catch and calm the bug demon down. They took to reading Luz's book that she had left behind, hoping to find clues.
"Anything yet Gus?" Willow asked.
"No, not yet, nothing I can use," Gus said. "Portals are not my specialty, and this looks like really complicated magic."
"We have to do something, it's been three days since this happened," Willow said.
"Should we even be worried? It sounds like Luz went to the human realm, where she's from, since she's human," Gus said.
"But she took Eda and King, they're not human," Willow said. "Not to mention, there's no real guarantee the portal was a success."
"Luz was having trouble with it, I'm worried she made a mistake and ended up somewhere worse," Hooty admitted. "Lulu and Amity went to see if Emperor Belos had anything in his library that can help, and they've been missing since then too."
"You don't think Belos did anything, do you?" Gus asked. "The Emperor's Coven is really close to the Blight Family, they would not have done anything to Amity."
"What about Lilith? They could have done something to her," Willow said. "Plus you know how Amity's family can be, especially her mom, I'm just worried about her."
"I wish I could do more, Willow, I really do," Gus said. "Right now, our hands are tied."
Willow looked out the window, toward where the Emperor's castle was, "You know, it's strange. Yesterday during Hooty's freakout, I actually saw the Golden Guard and Kikimora making their way through town, and they were joined by a very mysterious creature. One I hadn't seen before."
"A creature? What did it look like?" Gus asked.
"Some type of bird," Willow said. "I've never seen it before, but he, the Guard and Kikimora were walking pretty close together, I can't help but feel like something strange is going to happen with this new alliance."
"Maybe it's nothing, I mean if it's just a bird-" Gus suddenly got pecked by Hooty.
"Just a bird, huh!?" Hooty shouted, pecking Gus again.
"You know what I mean!" Gus said, shooing Hooty off. "Willow, I think you're worrying over thing."
"It's never 'nothing' when it involves The Emperor's Coven," Willow said.
True to her word, Belos was indeed in the midst of planning something dangerous, furthering his plans to achieve his magical goals, with Kikimora, Hunter and Ludo by his side. Soon he would unleash the first part of his plan, to invade Mewni.
