Chapter 140: Chapter 135: Saitama City, The Origin
Tatsuya stared at Matsushita's mother.
The pity in his eyes was undeniable, but it was layered with something colder. He wasn't moved by her brokenness or the pain she'd endured—no, that wasn't what softened his gaze.
It was something deeper.
Something darker.
When she whimpered an apology, calling herself a "cum dumpster," the words hit him like cold water, snapping him out of the trance he had been in.
The surreal, almost mechanical sense of control he had over them—over her—began to fade. Slowly, he came back to himself.
His mind cleared, and with it came clarity.
She's not her. She never would be.
He hadn't just been using Matsushita and her mother. Somewhere, in the murky depths of his mind, he had been trying to replace them. Trying to replace her with the one he truly wanted but could never have.
His mother. His sister.
It was all twisted now, laid bare before him.
Tatsuya had let his delusions carry him.
He had let his regret, the regret of never having what he truly desired, control him. But this was just a poor imitation.
A pathetic stand-in for what he could no longer attain.
He stood up, slowly, as if moving in a dream. The room was silent except for the shallow breathing of those around him. No one dared to speak or move. They were all trapped in the same tension, waiting for what he would do next.
For a moment, Tatsuya said nothing. He let out a sigh, running a hand through his hair, his eyes sweeping over the scene before him.
Matsushita's mother lay on the ground, shaking violently, her face buried in her hands. She was broken—mentally, and physically. Her body was trembling, muscles spasming uncontrollably, her mind probably shattered beyond repair.
Her husband was no longer fighting. He wasn't even crying out in anger anymore. He was just crying. His face was streaked with tears, defeated, slumped against the wall like a man whose will had been utterly crushed.
Tatsuya's gaze finally landed on Matsushita herself. She sat in the corner, knees pulled to her chest, rocking back and forth. Her sobs came in waves, choked, barely audible, but her voice kept repeating the same words in a tortured whisper.
"It's my fault… it's my fault… it's my fault…"
He walked over to her slowly, kneeling in front of her. His touch was strangely gentle as he pulled her to her feet.
She flinched at his touch but didn't resist.
Her eyes were downcast, her body trembling. She couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze, the fear in her posture making her look even smaller, even more fragile.
Tatsuya tilted her chin up, his hand lingering on her face as if savouring the moment. There was something almost affectionate in his expression, but it was hollow, empty of real emotion.
"I had a good time," he said softly, his voice calm. He studied her face for a moment longer before his lips twisted into a cold smile. "You're free now. Do whatever you want. Run. Leave the country. But if you stay here… if you stay where I can find you… I'll make sure to come back. And when I do, it won't just be your mother…"
Her sobbing grew louder, her body shaking, but he had already turned away.
…
He left them behind without a second thought, stepping out into the cool evening air.
The sky was clear with faint clouds lazily drifting about. It felt almost peaceful, almost serene, but Tatsuya couldn't feel any of it.
His face was devoid of any emotion as he checked his phone.
Matsushita's family was already out of his mind, he had no qualms about what he did.
He would do whatever he wanted.
He launched himself into the air, his bloodstained wings spreading wide as he shot into the sky. The GPS on his phone guided him, though he barely needed it. He knew where he was headed: Saitama City, and from there, into the mountains.
Saitama City was just above Tokyo, where Matsushita's family lived. At Tokyo's seaside was where Advanced Nurturing High School was located so it didn't take long to reach her house.
But towards another city… it would take some time unless…
The wind screamed in his ears as he flew, but he felt nothing.
His mind was already elsewhere.
The next thrill.
Feeling somewhat excited he smiled.
Tatsuya's eyes glittered as they suddenly changed colour.
From black to molten silver.
Instantly, his body was wrapped in a crackling aura of electricity. White-hot arcs of lightning danced across his skin, lighting up the sky around him in flashes of electric blue. Then power surged within him, amplifying his every movement.
His wings pulsed with energy, absorbing the crackling lightning until they, too, shimmered with an otherworldly glow.
[Godspeed]
Tatsuya became a streak of light in the night sky, moving faster than the eye could follow. The air around him ripped apart as the world beneath him blurred, the city became nothing more than a faint smudge of darkness.
Forty kilometres.
In less than twenty seconds, the distance between him and Saitama City vanished. The cityscape passed below him, a blur of lights and buildings, before the mountains came into view.
He deactivated Godspeed as he descended, landing silently on a rocky outcrop, his eyes narrowing as he spotted his destination.
He waved his hand across his face as specs of white appeared from the void and gathered across his face to form a white mask with two red stripes going vertically across the eyes.
He looked ahead.
A sterile, monolithic structure, completely isolated from the world. No windows, no lights, no warmth. Just blinding white walls, cold and unfeeling, reflecting nothing. It was as if the building had been cut off from reality itself, a place where nothing could touch it.
The Whiteroom.
Nothing could escape it.
Or at least that had been the case until recently.
Tatsuya walked forward, the sharp crunch of gravel beneath his feet the only sound in the dead silence. He was still twenty meters from the entrance when a voice echoed out from hidden speakers.
"No trespassing allowed. Government facility. Step back, or you will be removed by force."
The voice was automated, cold, and emotionless.
Tatsuya smiled faintly, but kept walking.
From the corners of his vision, he saw the guards turn toward him, their eyes locking onto his figure. They were armed with batons and stun guns.
Their cold gazes landed on his body but there was flickering excitement in the eyes of many, looking at him provocatively as if daring him to come closer.
To the guards, Tatsuya's unexpected appearance was a change from their usually boring routine.
But they had no idea who they were dealing with.
Tatsuya's smile faded seeing the guards' excitement.
A bit stunned he walked past them.
They were seeking excitement from... Him?
Before the guards could realise what had happened blood splattered everywhere. The two guards at the front were confused as their vision blurred. Moments later their bodies, split in half, fell to the ground with a plop.
Intensities and organs were everywhere and deathly silence filled the air. The rest of the guards seemed to be in a daze, not realising what just occurred. Before they could come to their senses streaks of blood danced across the area, splitting all the guards in half.
Boom!
Tatsuya kicked the metal gate and it burst open.
Alarm bells were ringing all across the facility and he could see the shutters of the entrance close. The people behind the doors were huddling in fear, not believing what they had just seen. They were panicking and calling whomever came to mind in this dire situation.
"I should finish up quickly…" he muttered.
