Chapter 110: Chapter 2
Nine boring months went by fast and within that time, nothing happened. Not a single thing.
'Mura?'
I heard a deep hum as I swung Muramasa in Dad's training room.
'You said that the Blood River claimed all of its wielders except one—Sasaki Kojiro, right?'
Another deep hum followed before his voice resounded in my mind, startling me for a moment.
'Before your father, Kojiro was the only other to not end up here. Whether that was due to that boy's mutt or not is another matter.'
I swung with a little more force at those words as the image of that black haired older boy appeared in my mind.
'I don't like him, Mura. If it weren't for him, Dad would still be here.'
I heard a deep sigh before Mura responded.
'The Blood River is a place you are not ready to fully understand. However, one thing it is capable of is forcing fate into your own hands.'
I frowned at his words as I raised Muramasa overhead again.
'Fate is a finicky part of life. For example, let's say your father had ties to the Greek Pantheon, whether it was through an ancestor who held strong faith or one who was born in the areas during the height of their worship. In that case, his fate would have been woven into the threads controlled by the Sisters of Fate. However, your father bathed in the Blood River and wrenched his fate from their grasp, and was to weave it himself.'
With force, I swung Muramasa down as I listened.
'Many weak beings believe fate and destiny should be in their own hands, but that is not the case. To hold one's fate is to go against the nature of the world itself.'
I placed Muramasa down, trying to catch my breath.
"The world's nature?"
'Some call it the world's nature, others call it balance. Every world, including this one, has it. The world constantly seeks to maintain equilibrium between good and evil. So when someone fated to be evil—'
"Are you saying Dad's fate was to be evil?"
'Yes.'
I glared at Muramasa before sighing in exhaustion.
"Sorry… continue?"
Mura hummed before doing just that.
'When someone destined to be evil takes their fate into their own hands, like your father did, the world attempts to correct the balance. Whether it's as simple as a stone in their path that causes them to trip and die, or—'
"A Sacred Gear that can cut through anything…"
I mumbled as I stared at the ceiling. Mura acknowledged my words.
'The Curse of Muramasa and Ryou's soul were intertwined beyond what that boy, Tobio, was capable of severing at the time. I believe the world's nature aided him as Ryou was not only fighting against Tobio but also—'
Mura abruptly stopped talking.
I frowned, looking around to see if Mom was nearby, but I neither saw nor sensed anything.
'Mura?'
Silence.
I clutched Muramasa tighter against my chest, a nervous feeling creeping in.
'Mura, are you there?'
Still nothing.
'Mur—'
'Yes, Eri?'
I frowned but shrugged it off, standing up and heading for the stairs.
"Well, I have to go to school, Mura. I'll see you later, okay?"
He hummed in response as I placed him back on his sword stand and walked out of Dad's training room.
'Great… now I have to go back to school…'
Scene Change / Azazel's POV
"I still find it surprising how hard you're working."
I turned to the voice of Penemue and gave her a grin.
"The prototype is almost complete. After that, I'll be able to start working on the invi—"
Whack!
"Wish your work ethic wasn't wasted on something perverted, though." she muttered as I rubbed my cheek.
I sighed before shrugging. "So, what brings you here?"
She deadpanned at me before gesturing to the papers in her arms and stretching them out toward me. I reluctantly reached for them—
Ksh-beep
...
Bee-ksh-p
We both turned toward the distorted sound of a device I had broken some time ago—
'Ah, the tracker from back then.'
B-ksh
…
"Are you going to do something about that, Azazel?"
Penemue's voice pulled me back, but just as I was about to answer, the device grew louder.
Bee-ksh-p
Ksh-bee-p
Beep
And it was getting clearer.
Beep
Beep
"Azazel… what is it doing— Azazel, what's wrong?"
I ignored her words, dropping the papers she had given me to the floor. Stepping forward, I grabbed the broken device and turned it over staring at the back of it.
"Penemue."
I turned to her with a wide smile, one that made her recoil.
"Azazel, I swear, if this is some perverted—"
I cut her off.
"Sasaki Ryou is alive."
