My Daddy Hides His Power

Chapter 215

“Heuk. Is that true?”

 Enoch’s eyes widened.

“Why isn’t she talking to me?”

“She didn’t want to tell me either. I kept probing persistently until she finally slipped and confessed. You should pretend you don’t know until she brings it up herself.”

 “No, ah…”

Enoch, who was embarrassed, thought for a moment and muttered.

 “…Cheshire?”

 “What? Did you know?”

 “Whoa!”

 Enoch touched his head.

“I didn’t know. I’ve been guarding the others fiercely. If there’s a possibility, it would only be Cheshire.”

 “It’s been a month.”

 “Really?!

It was a series of surprises.

“I noticed the princess has been acting strangely lately, so I thought maybe…”

It’s not that he didn’t have doubts. He even thought, ‘Could it be… Cheshire?’

 However,

“I met Cheshire just in case, talked about this and that, and even watched his expression. But there was absolutely no sign! None at all, so I eventually gave up my suspicions.”

 If this is true…

Enoch suddenly became quite scared of Cheshire. How could he manage to avoid his suspicions, considering he prides himself on being quick to read people?

“I told you so. I said that the brat was scary the moment he started smiling and acting friendly to his biological father to get on his good side.”

 “Hey…”

“So, even the Emperor was easily fooled. Don’t you get an answer when you see that suspicious Emperor biting and sucking that brat after only a few years? Huh?”

 “….”

 Enoch swallowed hard.

 “Listen carefully.”

 Oscar said solemnly.

“That child has a schedule of starting study at 8 AM and finishing at 6:30 PM at the Wizard  Tower. I only have one day off per week. I don’t keep the child in those other times.”

 “….”

“Unless there’s something special, I’ll stick to that schedule without fail, and there’s no way I’ll let the kid stay overnight at the tower or my place. If such a situation arises, I’ll contact you directly, no exceptions.”

Oscar added, putting his face close to Enoch’s.

“If the kid ever uses me as an excuse to stay out overnight, it’s definitely a lie.”

 “Stay out?”

For a moment, Enoch became thoughtful, and then he smiled.

“Ey, no way. Cheshire… Cheshire isn’t like that.”

“Hey, haven’t you ever been in a relationship?”

 “….?”

 Enoch scratched his head.

“Yeah, I haven’t tried it. Somehow I have a child, but I’ve never been in a relationship.”

 “Phew.”

“Why the look of pity? I’ve been busy with life. By the way, have you tried that too, Lord of the Wizard Tower?”

 Enoch, somewhat embarrassed, protested.

“No, I haven’t tried it either.”

 “Look!”

“But I fully understand how insidious a man in a relationship can be. From now on, think of that guy as an animal, not a person.”

Enoch was worried by Oscar’s solemn expression, but quickly shook it off.

 ‘No way.’

Enoch had been watching Cheshire for a very long time. He can boast that he knows him well.

Of course, there was concern about his daughter starting her first relationship, but…

 If the opponent is Cheshire!

Rather, unlike other guys, he was trustworthy.

‘Our princess is still so young, but what do you mean by already staying out all night? Nonsense. Cheshire is probably thinking about all of that, too. So, don’t worry…’

 * * *

“Dad, I’ll be staying out overnight soon.”

 Dad’s mouth dropped open.

For some reason, he seemed surprised before even hearing the reason for staying out, so I was a little puzzled.

“Why, why? What do you mean by suddenly staying out overnight?”

I will follow the upcoming subjugation

It was a battle scheduled for at least a week, and waiting for 24 hours was essential because I never knew when a problem might arise with Leon.

‘If I tell the truth that I have to go save Leon, Dad will understand, but…’

Dad doesn’t know about my expedition.

I deliberately didn’t say anything because it would be a big problem if Dad followed me.

A battle without Dad in the original.

Therefore, Dad’s mere presence would become a variable.

 ‘I’m sorry. I can’t trust you, Dad.’

I couldn’t believe James Brown, who once dressed up as an old man and followed me.

“What’s the reason? Why? When? Where? With whom?”

“Uhm, I don’t know? The exact date hasn’t been set yet…”

If I tell the exact date of the departure, I won’t be able to fool my quick-witted Dad.

I added in a vague way.

“There’s a magic formula I’m researching with my friends at the Wizard Tower these days. I’m going to study all night that day. There is my Master in the Wizard Tower, so don’t worry.”

There is no problem if I bring up Oscar, who he trusts without asking or questioning me!

 “Hahaha. How unexpectedly accurate…”

But, for some reason, Dad muttered with a hollow smile.

“Oh? What did you say? What do you expect?”

 “No.”

 “Mhm?”

 “You can’t!”

Dad shouted firmly. I was confused.

 “Why not…?”

 “No! Anyway, no!”

 “No, tell me why not!”

Dad’s lips were trembling, but he snatched me up and hugged me without telling me why.

 “Whaaa!”

 “Absolutely not!!!”

 * * *

One day, a week before the large-scale subjugation of demonic beasts.

Imperial Palace, Holy Magic Division’s training hall.

Twelve-year-old Kyle Ludendorff, who became a child soldier in the Holy Magic Division two weeks ago, sat in a corner of the training ground during a short break to catch his breath.

 “Haa, haa….”

He felt disapproving glances at him from afar.

“Does he have a conscience? As strong as that, until now…”

 “Because he’s a coward.”

As soon as he joined, he was ostracized by his fellow child soldiers, but Kyle understood their feelings.

Of course, he felt sorry for his friends who were fighting honorably for their country even at a young age.

‘It’s okay. Don’t worry about it and just focus on doing your best. It’s what you were supposed to do anyway.’

Kyle’s father, the Marquis Ludendorff, was a person of Quarto rank, but wasn’t a soldier.

The Ludendorff family received a merit medal from the imperial family after the last of their direct descendants died in battle.

His father was exempt from military service due to the noble blood shed by his ancestors, and was a collateral lineage that continued the family line.

He didn’t know much about it, but he had heard that being a noble family of merit was extremely honorable.

In the past, his mother, who was a soldier, didn’t have to go to war because of him, and the same goes for Kyle himself…

 Yeah.

 He thought so.

 Until now.

Parents, household employees, teachers and friends at the training center.

Because no one told Kyle the truth.

“Have you ever met your older sister?”

 “…Sister?”

“What? Looks like he really didn’t know.”

“Hey, the commander told us not to say anything unnecessary! Let’s go quickly!”

 “W, wait!”

The imperial palace had suddenly become a place where he, now in the status of a child soldier, came daily for training.

Here, Kyle finally became vaguely aware of something he had never known before.

Everyone glanced at him and whispered. No one gave him a clear answer, but he had picked up bits and pieces of conversations over time.

‘What kind of person is my sister?’

Kyle wiped the sweat from his eyes and imagined his sister’s face.

Due to the atmosphere of being ostracized and people avoiding him, he still didn’t know the exact truth, but…

 ‘Will my sister meet me?’

He guessed that it was because of his sister that he had not been obliged to be a capable person until now.

‘She probably hates me so much, right?’

Kyle wanted to meet his sister.

And he really wanted to apologize, to say he was truly sorry.

‘Why on earth did my mother…’

She is a mother who loves him very much.

 Is that why?

So did she send her daughter to war instead of her son?

“Please tell me, Mother. Was my sister fighting in my place?”

After Kyle became a child soldier, his mother spent every night in tears, but even when he asked her to tell him the truth, she only cried.

Kyle didn’t even think about comforting his crying mother.

Because honestly, he hated her so much.

“Why? You know I’m strong! I can do it too! But… why? Why did you do that?”

Perhaps his mother’s reaction of avoiding his answer meant that what he guessed was all true.

 It was a shock.

Because of his mother, he must have been hated by his sister without knowing anything about it.

 ‘It’s okay. It’s okay.’

Kyle burst into tears again out of regret and roughly wiped away the flowing tears.

It might not be too late.

Let’s work hard and show everyone right now that he’s incredibly strong.

He’s going to make a big contribution by going out to war this time.

 And then…

Whether it was his father or the commander, he needed to find someone who could grant his request.

‘I’ll take over for my sister from now on. Since I’ll handle it, please don’t send her to the battlefield anymore. Let’s make that request.’

Then, the older sister who must have been suffering on behalf of the younger brother whose face she didn’t even know until now…

His older sister must have gone off to war while blaming him…

 Maybe she will forgive me?

‘Don’t expect… anything. Even if my sister continues to hate me, there’s nothing I can do about it. That’s just how it is.’

Even though he didn’t mean to, he owed his sister a debt. Although he was young, Kyle knew that the excuse of not knowing was cowardly.

Therefore, he doesn’t dare hope that his sister will welcome him and love him.

He just needed to do what he had to do now… which was to take over the burden his sister had been carrying.

 And, just once.

He wanted to look at her face and apologize.

“Hey! What are you doing?! How long are you going to slack off?”

One of the fellow child soldiers rolled his eyes.

Although he only rested for less than 10 minutes, Kyle wiped away his tears and woke up in a hurry.

A fool, an idiot who knew nothing.

“Mhm, sorry! I’m going right now!”

For someone like him, even taking a moment to catch his breath was a luxury.
