My Daddy Hides His Power

Chapter 249

Everyone fell silent.

In the vast great hall, only the Emperor’s laughter echoed.

The aide, Ramon, realized that the laughter was very desperate.

 Cheshire Libre…

Because the one whom the Emperor believed to be his sword had shown betrayal through his actions right before his eyes.

The fact that Cheshire had boldly marched here alone meant that the numerous Imperial troops he had taken with him were also meaningless.

 “This can’t be happening…”

 Nicholas muttered in vain.

Although a faint smile still lingered at his lips, it was far from a relaxed expression.

It was just an indifferent smile.

A sense of indifference, having reached a dead end with no other options.

“What made you like this?”

 “….”

Nicholas tilted his head and asked Cheshire.

“What on earth made you dare to bare your fangs at your master?”

 “….”

“Is it Enoch’s pathetic belief? Or is it your own ambition to ascend my throne as the Conquering King?”

Nicholas, who had taken a step closer, looked at the two men and began to laugh again.

 “Hahahaha….”

A sigh-like murmur escaped his lips as he tilted his head toward the empty air.

“I am the Primera, the god of this empire. I am the one who gave you new life as ability users, and allowed you to breathe from the pinnacle of this mighty fortress.”

 And yet, you dare.

“Do you think you can stand over me? You, who are nothing more than my creation, born by my power?”

 Whoosh—!

Sending Enoch behind him, Cheshire stepped forward and unleashed a wave of black sword energy.

The sword energy was blocked by the blue barrier that Nicholas had personally deployed, vanishing without a trace.

“You insolent b*stard, who doesn’t even recognize his own master.”

Cheshire advanced toward Nicholas with an indifferent expression.

Three Imperial Guards rushed in swiftly, bringing their swords down over his head.

 Clank!

Cheshire blocked the barrage of blades with a single strike and shot a wave of sword energy into the air.

 Boom, boom, boom!

The fierce wind pressure from the attack sent the three swordsmen flying, crashing into the walls of the great hall.

 “Huh… heuk…”

Ramon, the aide watching from the sidelines, helplessly groaned at the overwhelming power.

The Emperor’s Imperial Guard was not even close to matching the man’s strength at his feet.

There was no way to stop it.

Still, the Emperor simply watched as Cheshire advanced toward him without moving a muscle.

 Clank—!

The sword that Cheshire brought down above the Emperor’s head was blocked by the shield.

Cheshire, applying pressure to break through the barrier, and Nicholas locked eyes at a very close distance.

 “Who gave you this power?”

 “….”

 “It’s me.”

 Boom, boom—!

The Imperial Guard wizards’ attacks poured into the spot where Cheshire had been.

However, strangely, Cheshire had withdrawn to a close distance in an instant.

 ‘What’s making him so fast?’

Ramon, who had been holding his breath, rubbed his eyes in disbelief.

It was such a magical movement, as if he had teleported, rather than simply dodging on two legs.

The Emperor’s eyes narrowed as he sensed the strangeness for a moment.

“…Well. How long are you going to be mistaken?”

Cheshire asked, his gaze fixed entirely on Nicholas.

The one who granted him this power…

All of the Empire’s ability users were created by Primera, except for one.

 It wasn’t only Cheshire.

When he closed his eyes and opened them, the world slowed down and the density of time distorted as he wished.

Long before he was granted power by Premera, he had been an ‘ability user’.

 “….”

Nicolas watched as Cheshire approached once again.

If he ran away, he would lose the throne.

It felt as if nothing was left for him.

That was an end more fearful than death.

If that was the case, then in this dead-end, the only choice left to punish the despicable traitors was one.

“You insist on making me put a leash around your neck with my own hands.”

It would be wiser to control Cheshire rather than Enoch, who was seriously injured.

The life force he would need to control Dos was painfully precious. Swallowing his regret, Nicholas closed his eyes.

 ‘….?’

 However, again.

Nicholas, who had been imagining how he would change while using his power, was surprised.

This time, unlike when he had tried to bring Enoch’s daughter, his appearance had not changed.

 He still looked neat…

 ‘Why?’

He quickly opened his eyes, trying to brainwash Cheshire, but…

“Didn’t I ask how long you plan on being mistaken?”

 He didn’t listen.

Only the ‘non-ability users’ without divine power are immune to Primera’s mental control.

Cheshire Libre must be an ability user, so why…

 “Ah.”

Nicholas, who realized it in an instant, let out a gasp.

An ‘ability user’ without divine power…

 It was surprising.

In this moment, Nicholas felt as though Cheshire was a being sent by the gods to eliminate Primera.

 “…A monster.”

 He mocked himself weakly.

 * * *

 Wizard Tower.

When only a robe much larger than his body was draped over him, it fell down around his neck, revealing his pale shoulders.

 “Phew, really.”

Oscar clicked his tongue and picked up the child’s robe.

“I can’t sneak in like you, so if anything happens, call me. If you break the blue, I’ll come right away.”

Oscar said while handing over two shell-shaped magic tools he had made for Lilith.

“And when you’re done safely, let me know. Break the pink one.”

 “Yes!”

 “….”

Oscar stared blankly at Lilith’s face as she answered vigorously.

“Is that all it takes to break your dad’s mind control? I can’t do anything about it anyway, so you’re not lying, right?”

“Yes, it’s true. The God gave me a gift because I’ve done a lot of good deeds. I used to get a lot more, but it’s been decreasing little by little.”

It’s not like I’m talking nonsense.

In the first place, it was nonsense for the young Primera, who couldn’t overcome the providence of power, to break through the Emperor’s power.

But what made it possible was the holy relic embedded in the child’s heart…

In all the coincidences that led to this moment, there must have been a divine arrangement to take back the power that had been tainted.

 “Let’s try hugging… just once.”

 “….”

The child blinked with wide eyes as they looked at Oscar, who suddenly opened his arms.

 “Hmm.”

Lilith, who had been scratching her head and pouting her lips at the strange atmosphere, approached him and quietly hugged him.

“Master, don’t go anywhere and just wait here?”

The child spoke while rubbing her face against his chest as if she was being a spoiled brat.

 Oscar avoided answering.

“You’ll be an adult when you get back.”

“Well, I’m not quite an adult yet… Ah! In the world I visited before, they considered someone an adult at twenty.”

“Don’t use it as much as possible.”

“I will. I want to remain a child a little longer.”

Oscar let out a quiet sigh as he gently removed Lilith from his arms and knelt before the magic circle.

 “We’ll be late. Get ready.”

 “Yes!”

The image of Lilith answering with a nervous expression was erased. Then, only the robe was floating.

“Ah, you idiot! Even the clothes!”

 “Ah, that’s right!”

A flustered voice was heard, and soon, the child vanished without a trace.

“If anything happens, be sure to call me.”

 “Yes, I will!”

With a bright voice, Oscar chuckled and placed his hand on the ground, channeling his mana into it.

Then, the blue light slowly disappeared as the magic circle slowly disappeared.

 “….”

The spot where Lilith had been standing just moments ago—there, the man’s hand hovered for a long time, lingering as if reluctant to let go.

It was a battle with a conclusion already decided. The child would never call for him again.

 So, just a moment ago.

That was the last time they had each other.

 “…Goodbye.”

He greeted her with a sad smile.

 * * *

All five of the Imperial Guard had fallen, each suffering fatal wounds.

Though they were meant to fight for the Emperor until their last breath, the Imperial Guard couldn’t rise despite their will, as their bodies were unable to defy the limits of their injuries.

Nicholas let out a hollow laugh as he watched Cheshire subdue the entire Imperial Guard without killing them.

He had let Primera live because he could release the brainwashing by just cutting off his head.

 Aah,

 How arrogant is this mercy.

 Clank—!

Once again, Cheshire’s sword surged over the Emperor’s head.

With a shield between them, the two continued their intense struggle of strength.

 “When did it start?”

 The Emperor asked.

“Since when have you been sharpening your claws to tear me apart?”

 Cheshire sneered.

“From the moment you arrogantly deluded yourself into believing you were the one who rebirthed me as an ability user.”

 “….”

The Imperial Training Center, where Primera creates ability users—young servants who would bow their heads to him.

 “Hahahahahaha!”

Nicholas laughed like a madman, recalling the young Cheshire he didn’t even remember meeting.

 “Amazing!!!”

His eyes, bloodshot as he reached his limit, were sharp.

“Really, really amazing! To think you’ve been living all this time just to drive a blade into my heart since then!”

His appearance that didn’t resemble Enoch’s beliefs.

Eyes that had once been emotional, like those of a dog easily controlled by a very short leash.

 His obedient nod.

All of it—everything he’d thought was loyalty—had been nothing more than a blade honed to strike him down.

 “Really, amazing…”

Nicholas raised the corners of his mouth and shuddered.

 “….”

 “….”

Soon, a fierce silence permeated between the two.

 At the same time.

 “….!”

 Cheshire’s eyes widened.

In an instant, the Emperor’s face was changing.

His dazzling blond hair turned white, and countless wrinkles appeared on his once young and beautiful face.

 His straight back bent,

 “Keugh! Ugh…”

His exhausted body, pushed to its limits by the draining of his life force, released a dry cough.

 ‘Finally.’

Cheshire quickly raised his sword and turned around.

Swish—!

At the same time, a blue sword aura flew fiercely.

 Boom—!

Although he managed to block it in an instant, Cheshire was helplessly thrown back by the destructive attack and slammed into the wall.

Smoke rose from the remains of the broken wall, obscuring his vision.

 “….”

Cheshire staggered to his feet, spitting out blood-mixed saliva.

 Beyond the slowly settling smoke―

 Enoch stood alone, clearly visible.

His unfocused eyes, blocking the path as if protecting the Emperor.

It was the final fight that had finally begun.
