My Hero Academia: Complete Victory

Chapter 14: Katsu Means "Victory"

Kacchan is a cutesy way of shorting "Katsu-Chan" get it?

The students who had passed the U.A. entrance exam were given two weeks to prepare for the start of their hero training. For most, this meant sharpening their skills, increasing their physical conditioning, and mentally preparing for the rigorous course load ahead.

Izuku Midoriya, ever determined, threw himself into training with newfound vigor. With his acceptance into UA came the responsibility to live up to the legacy of the heroes before him. He spent hours running, lifting weights, and working on his endurance, his mind constantly replaying the advice he had received from All Might.

Bakugo, of course, had never slouched when it came to his training. His intensity only increased as the thought of falling behind anyone—especially Deku or Kuro—fueled him. His explosions were sharper and more controlled, and his physical prowess was at its peak. He couldn't afford to be outclassed.

Kuro, however, while focusing on improving his physicality, had other plans. He had been quietly fascinated by the technology and equipment used by pros to enhance their abilities, and now that he was officially a U.A. student, he saw an opportunity to pursue that interest.

One morning, Kuro made his way to U.A. He was dressed casually, though his student I.D. was clipped to his chest. The gleaming campus of UA stood before him, but instead of heading to the hero course facilities or the training grounds, Kuro walked straight to the department he had his sights on, the Support Course.

Upon entering the building, Kuro found himself surrounded by students and faculty working on all sorts of gadgets, tools, and machinery. The air was filled with the hum of electronics and the clinking of metal, giving the entire space a vibrant energy. It was here that Kuro hoped to find an edge, something that would set him apart from the other heroes-in-training.

Kuro navigated his way through the bustling workshop until he reached a lab where he was greeted by a rather unusual sight. A pro hero, known as Power Loader, was standing there—shirtless, with a large excavator arm as a helmet and bulky gauntlets on his arms. His wiry frame seemed almost comically mismatched with the heavy equipment he wore.

Power Loader raised an eyebrow as Kuro approached, his trademark smile and energetic demeanor evident. Kuro bowed politely, introducing himself. "Good morning! I'm Kurokami Tenshin, a Hero Course student."

Power Loader, a bit confused, sized up Kuro. "A Hero Course student, huh? Did you need help with your costume or something? Most students submit their suit designs digitally before the school year starts."

Kuro shook his head, still smiling. "I'm not here for that. I wanted to ask if I could join the Support Course as a part-time student. I'd like to take extra credit."

Power Loader blinked in surprise, scratching his head beneath the excavator helmet. This was not a request he heard often—if ever. Most students were so focused on becoming pro heroes that they rarely if ever, bothered with side courses. The Hero Course itself was already intense, and taking on more responsibility was a rare move.

"You know," Power Loader began, crossing his arms, "the Hero Course offers plenty of extra credit opportunities on its own. You're not gonna find better ways to boost your credits than by excelling in your course. Why would you want to take on more work?"

Kuro internally smirked, though his face remained as cheerful as ever. I need to make a bunch of illegal stuff, he thought to himself, though what came out of his mouth was far more diplomatic. "I'm interested in support items, sir. I think they can make a huge difference, even in combat situations. If it turns out I can't manage both, I'll quit, but I want to give it a try."

Power Loader looked at Kuro for a moment, trying to gauge the sincerity of his words. After a brief pause, he shrugged. "Well, it's technically allowed. U.A. students can take extra credit courses in other departments, but you're the first hero student I've met who actually wanted to join the Support Course. If you're serious, I'll talk to the faculty and get you set up."

Kuro grinned brightly, bowing once again. "Thank you! I appreciate it!"

Power Loader waved him off. "Yeah, yeah. But don't expect us to go easy on you just because you're from the Hero Course. You're in my class now, too. You'll be treated the same as any of the other support students."

Kuro nodded eagerly, pleased with the outcome. "Understood, sir!"

As he turned to leave, Kuro couldn't help but stretch his arms, already feeling the weight of the additional workload. Balancing his hero training with the Support Course would cut into his training time significantly, and part of him wondered if he was biting off more than he could chew. But he dismissed the thought as quickly as it came. This is necessary. I need it.

...

The day had finally arrived—after weeks of anticipation, the students of U.A. High School were about to begin their journey as heroes-in-training. For many, it was a morning filled with nervous excitement, rushing to make sure they had everything they needed for their first day. But for Kurokami Tenshin, things were a little different.

Kuro had arrived at U.A. long before most of his classmates would even think of waking up. Being an insomniac had its advantages—he required far less sleep than others and used the extra hours to his benefit. Today, that meant arriving early to choose the best possible seat in Class 1-A.

The U.A. campus was already familiar to him after his visits to the Support Course and the previous exams, but today it felt different.

There was a sense of anticipation in the air as he passed by the Support Department, the students and teachers not yet bustling around the labs. He briefly wondered what sorts of new projects he would start there, but his focus quickly shifted back to his main goal—getting settled in Class 1-A.

As Kuro reached the Hero Course section of the building, he noticed the massive door to his classroom. It was far larger than necessary for most students, though Kuro figured it was U.A.'s way of accommodating those with quirk-based size differences. Inclusion, I guess, he thought as he pushed the door open.

The first thing that caught Kuro's attention was the yellow sleeping bag lying in the corner of the room. It was slowly inching its way toward the door, pausing as if it hadn't just moved by itself. Kuro instantly recognized who it belonged to.

Eraser Head, he thought. The underground hero and famously lethargic homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Kuro wasn't surprised—he knew from his research that Eraser Head had a reputation for valuing sleep as much as he valued efficiency.

Choosing to ignore the odd sight for now, Kuro turned his attention to the classroom itself. Rows of desks were neatly arranged, each offering a clear view of the front. Kuro quickly made his way to the back of the room, selecting the coveted window seat.

It offered the perfect mix of privacy and a view of the outside world, making it an ideal spot to observe without being observed. Plus, it was far enough from the teacher's desk that he could avoid unnecessary attention.

Settling into his seat, Kuro pulled out a notebook and a pen. But instead of doodling or writing about hero training, Kuro's mind was on his Support Course projects. He began sketching a design for a set of weighted gear.

These weights weren't meant for him—his natural training was already enough to push his limits. Instead, these were designed to limit the strength and speed of those who needed extra challenges, meant for future scenarios where controlling power was crucial.

This will be useful in the future, Kuro thought as his hand moved swiftly across the page. Control is key.

Meanwhile, across town, Inko Midoriya was doing her best to make sure Izuku was more than ready for his first day. She flitted around him, checking his uniform—white shirt, gray blazer, and red tie—while offering words of encouragement.

"Make sure to be confident, Izuku! You've come so far, and you're going to be great," Inko said, her voice wavering slightly with emotion.

Izuku smiled, though his nerves were evident. "Thanks, Mom. I'll do my best," he replied, trying to calm himself as he left their home.

It wasn't a long walk to UA, and Izuku used the time to mentally prepare himself. He had been training harder than ever, working to increase his physical abilities, but the thought of facing an entire class of students with incredible quirks made him anxious. I just have to stay calm and focus, he reminded himself. No one needs to know about One For All.

But as Izuku reached the campus and stood in front of the massive building, he realized one problem—he had no idea where he was going. U.A. was enormous, and without a map, Izuku found himself wandering through the halls, desperately trying to find Class 1-A.

Just as panic began to set in, Izuku heard a familiar voice behind him.

"Oi, Deku, you lost again?"

Izuku turned around to see none other than Bakugo Katsuki, his childhood friend turned rival. Bakugo, who had been scoping out the building and memorizing the layout, sighed heavily at the sight of Izuku's lost expression.

"Of course, you'd get lost on the first day," Bakugo grumbled, though his tone wasn't as harsh as it usually was. He gestured for Izuku to follow him. "Come on, Class 1-A is this way."

Izuku's relief was palpable, and he hurried to catch up with Bakugo. As they walked, Izuku couldn't help but marvel at the size of the doors leading into the Hero Course section. Everything here is on such a grand scale, he thought, still trying to wrap his head around the fact that he was a student at U.A. High.

As Bakugo and Izuku approached Class 1-A, the large door loomed ahead. Bakugo walked in first without a second glance, while Izuku hesitated for a moment, marveling at the sheer size of the entrance. Just as he was about to enter, someone called out to him.

"Hey! You're the guy from the entrance exam, right? The one who smashed that Zero Pointer!"

Izuku turned around and immediately recognized the girl standing in front of him. It was Ochaco Uraraka, the same girl he had saved during the entrance exam by destroying the Zero Pointer with a single punch—though he had also broken his arm in the process.

Uraraka's bright, bubbly personality shone through as she smiled warmly at him. "I'm glad to see you passed! That was really impressive what you did during the exam."

Izuku's cheeks flushed slightly with embarrassment. "Oh, uh, it wasn't a big deal. I just got lucky, really," he stammered, nervously scratching the back of his head.

Uraraka's grin widened. "No way, that was awesome! I'm Ochaco Uraraka, by the way."

As she introduced herself, Izuku found himself noticing the similarities between her personality and Kuro's. They both have this energy and enthusiasm... it's almost like Kuro's copying her, or is she copying him? Izuku shook his head, dismissing the thought. This wasn't the time to get distracted.1

He smiled back at Uraraka and introduced himself. "I'm Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you!"

When she asked about his quirk, Izuku hesitated, not wanting to reveal too much about the secret behind his power. "Oh, uh, my quirk is... Superpower," he said quickly, sticking to the vague name he had come up with to avoid suspicion. "It's... kind of complicated."

Uraraka didn't pry, simply nodding with interest. "That's cool! Can't wait to see what you can do in class."

As the two entered the classroom, they spotted Bakugo sitting near the front, looking as grumpy as ever, and Kuro at the back, his eyes focused on the notebook in front of him, deep in thought.
