Chapter 607: Chapter 609: Right and Wrong (2)
The nursing aid was instructed to shut the door behind her.
“I’ve told you, if you’re still with Qin Zhiyou, then you will no longer be my daughter,” she announced sternly.
In the hospital room, Lu’s mother had been staring at the entrance. The nursing aid standing beside her tried to mollify her: “Aunt Lu, there’s no need to be mad at Wei Hui. She came here all by herself.”
Even though her eyes were filled with worry.
“I’m not mad at her, I just want her to divorce Qin Zhiyou immediately.” She just could not understand— what’s so great about Qin Zhiyou? That recent scandal with the television host caused an uproar in the whole city. Did Wei Hui not mind at all? Was she not disgusted?
If Wei Hui didn’t value her man’s loyalty, then could she tell her why she broke up with Qin Zhigu immediately after discovering he was involved with Cai Yiren? The incident between Bai Changyou and Qin Zhigu made her despise deceitful men. Why on earth would she fall for Qin Zhiyou?
“Mom, things with Qin Zhiyou aren’t going to get resolved in a day or two. And… and he promised me something.”
“You believe his words?” Lu’s mother scoffed, “If he really cared for you, why didn’t he show any affection when you two got married five years ago? Instead, he had one woman after another. His promises now are merely because he is following his grandfather’s instructions. He’s afraid of making the company look bad, affecting stock prices, or losing his power and position. Frankly, his grandfather is old, how long can he keep him in check? Does he genuinely love you or he’s just concerned about retaining his power? Even if he does feel something for you now, what about later? Can you ensure that he will never change his mind?”
“I can’t”, Wei Hui shook her head.
Lu’s mother was about to nod and say, “Exactly, the matter is over then,”
“But then, ask any man in the world—even the best ones right now—how do you know he will still love you like this a few decades later? Take Dad for example,” Wei Hui said.
Her mother was taken aback.
Bai Changyou, indeed, back when he hadn’t yet made a fortune, was certainly an exemplar of a good husband; a loving father. But people change. His gentleness of yesteryear couldn’t guarantee the same for the future.
Parents naturally aspire for their children to have a bright future and a perfect family. But is such hope realistic?
“Qin Zhiyou isn’t trustworthy. Compared to other men, he has many more transgressions. Even statistically speaking, isn’t he more likely to cheat?”
“Yes”, Wei Hui admitted, “But, I still want to give him a second chance. I am not sure why I believe him, but since I’ve decided to trust him, I will not back down. Mom, I’m an adult now and I’ve experienced the bitterness of betrayal. I can bear the blow if it ever happens again. Even if such circumstances occur in the future, I will have no regrets.”
There was no response from inside the room for a long time.
Wei Hui sighed: “Also, Mom, all the hospital expenses and nursing aid charges are paid by me. Qin Zhiyou has not contributed at all. Even if you’re angry with me, please do not take it out on your health. Don’t discharge yourself just yet. I’ll come to see you again tomorrow.”
Still, there was no response from inside the room.
Feeling helpless, Wei Hui was ready to leave. As she approached the elevator, she saw Qin Zhigu.
She was outside, he was inside. The two of them stood there, looking at each other.
