Chapter 6: The Outer City 2
I opened my eyes and found myself under an unfamiliar roof. I quickly got up and began to cautiously look around, but after a few moments, I returned to reality and remembered that I was in Garoun house.
"I still can't comprehend the idea that I died and was reborn! Anyway, it seems Garoun has left. What should I do now?" I sat down to think about my plan for tomorrow, because Garoun definitely wouldn't let me stay here.
"Well, I'll go out to explore the city; maybe I'll find a place to settle in." I placed the watch that was in my pocket on the table, then opened the door to welcome the sunset.
"It's already sunset; I need to hurry, or else I won't know what might happen to me in such places." I closed the door behind me and walked out of the small farm gate. I headed forward, remembering that the city gate was to the right.
"Why is the city so dirty? The smell is awful!" I wandered between the houses and saw people rushing as if they were in a race. I followed them to see what was happening.
The number of people increased, and the sounds grew louder. I passed through the crowds and discovered the reason for their haste.
There were a number of people sitting on the roadside, with various goods in front of them, and a narrow passage that people were crossing, exchanging conversations with the sellers.
"It's a market! That's good, I'll get to know the currency and the prices of things here."
"Matchsticks! Very cheap, just for one bucket of water!"
"Half a bottle of alcohol! Very fine alcohol from the inner city, just for two pieces of meat!"
"A piece of unused clothing, for three pieces of meat and half a bucket of water. It's a very beautiful piece!" The sellers' voices were rising, advertising their goods at strange prices.
"Don't they use currency here? It seems they rely on a barter system. And what is this inner city they mentioned frequently?"
I continued walking, inspecting the goods and their prices, but I felt people's eyes turning towards me. They were looking at me strangely as if they knew I wasn't from this place.
"Am I that obvious? I thought I resembled them." I ignored the looks and continued exploring the market until the sunset was complete. The traders began packing their things and heading back to their homes as night fell.
"Ah, I'm exhausted! I've been wandering for almost two hours, I got useful information, but I don't know what I'll do to live." There's no currency here, but water and meat are exchanged as basic commodities. There's a place called the inner city, which seems better than this outer city. I noticed most residents suffer from signs of hunger, thirst, and malnutrition.
"Alright, I'll try to discover more tomorrow and see how I can earn food and water. And now, let me return by the same way I came." I began walking, remembering the way while looking at the clouded sky.
"Well, it seems it's going to rain soon, let's hurry home." I hastened my steps until I finally reached the farm gate. When I tried to open it, I felt someone covering my eyes and carrying me on their shoulder.
"Who are you? Let me go! Let me go!" I started shouting and kicking, hoping someone would hear me, but to no avail.
"Don't worry, kid, we won't do anything to you, right guys?"
"Yeah, don't worry! Hahaha!" The sarcastic laughter of the kidnappers returned, as if I were a toy they were playing with.
"What's happening? Why did they kidnap me? I don't have anything valuable and I haven't met anyone since entering the city. Why are they kidnapping me?"
"Hey! Guys, why are you kidnapping me? I don't own anything, so you won't gain anything from my kidnapping."
I asked them the question that was on my mind. But they responded in an unexpected way.
"Are you that ignorant? I didn't think forest dwellers were this naive."
"Are you sure he's from the forest? He doesn't seem strong, and I don't feel strong energy from him. Maybe he's too weak."
"Don't worry, he's from the forest. Someone told me a hunter found him in the central region of the forest. It's impossible for an ordinary kid to survive without strength; he must have something special. But he can't do anything, as we have this energy-suppressing tool."
"Well, if you say so." They were discussing me, and I finally understood the reason for my kidnapping. "Forest dwellers," I didn't think such a thing would harm me if I knew, I wouldn't have let this misunderstanding happen.
"Guys, I'm not from the forest. There must be a misunderstanding. I'm just an ordinary kid." I said this knowing it wouldn't change anything, but hoping it might help.
"Okay, okay! You're not from the forest, but there's someone who really wants you. He'll teach you how to be a very nice puppy. Hahaha!" "Oh, poor boy, I pity you for what's going to happen to you later. Oh, hahaha!" The sarcastic laughter returned, accompanied by false pity.
"I must escape. It seems I'm going to be sold to someone, and the kidnapper is not a good person in any way." "Hey! It's raining, let's go to the hut quickly." "Understood."
I felt the raindrops falling on me while I was carried on the kidnapper's shoulder, and the sounds of thunder and lightning were getting louder.
"Come on, get inside quickly!"
The people entered a place that might be their headquarters or someone's house, and when I wasn't paying attention, the person carrying me threw me off his shoulder.
"Ouch, my back."
I fell on my back and felt terrible pain.
"You damned, why did you throw me like that."
I was writhing alone while the criminals were discussing among themselves.
"Okay, when will the buyer arrive?"
"He said he'll come an hour after sunset."
"Excellent, there's about half an hour left until his arrival."
I was kicking with my legs to remove the blindfold from my eyes to see what was happening, and finally, it fell off.
I saw the criminals who kidnapped me; there were four of them, and one person was wearing armor that covered his entire body, and I couldn't see his face.
"You damned! Why did you remove the blindfold from your eyes, take this!"
"Ouch ouch ouch!"
When one of the criminals saw that I had removed my blindfold, he came towards me angrily and kicked me in the stomach.
"Cough! Cough! Cough!"
I vomited all the contents of my stomach because of the blow and struggled to get air.
"Why is this happening to me? I already died and barely got a second chance; why should it be taken away from me like this?"
"No, I understand now, it's not about it being taken away from me easily or anything, I just wasn't cautious. I didn't appreciate this chance well, so even if I die today, it's my fault alone, I'm the reason for what's happening to me right now."
"Can you give me a little water? I'll die of thirst."
I asked them weakly while lying on the ground.
"Give him a glass of water."
The man wearing the armor spoke, and immediately the criminals followed his orders fearfully.
"Take this water."
He offered the glass to me, and I took it from him and drank the water in one go. When I returned the glass to him, I moved forward quickly and opened my mouth, biting his face and tearing his eye out of its place, then moved away from him immediately.
"Ouch! My eye! Ouch my eye!"
I spat out his eye and the blood that filled my mouth and looked at them all, surprised by what I had done.
"Even if I die today, I won't die easily, this is my choice that I made."
When the criminals regained their senses, they ran towards me quickly to catch me.
I looked around quickly to see if there was something I could use.
Finally, I managed to see a dagger hanging at the waist of the person whose eye I had torn out. I ran towards him quickly and took the dagger before he fully recovered.
Before I realized what was happening, one of the criminals lifted my body and threw me forcefully against the wall.
"Ouch!"
My head hit the wall, and I felt dizzy as if I was going to lose consciousness, but despite that, I clung to the dagger with all my strength.
I heard the criminal's steps approaching me; every step was bringing me closer to my inevitable end.
Step!
Step!
Step!
When I regained consciousness, I saw the criminal directly in front of me, his eyes gleaming with anger.
He extended his hand and placed it on my neck and began to strangle me while holding me in the air.
I struggled to free myself from his grip, but to no avail. I began to gradually lose consciousness, and I no longer felt my body or what was happening around me.
"At least I didn't die an easy death."
This was my last thought before I lost consciousness.
I felt as if I was swimming in a calm ocean. My mind was free of any thought, and I felt peace and tranquility.
"Get up and fight!"
I felt as if someone was pushing my back and saying these words in my ear directly.
"Huh, who...?"
Before I could finish my words, I returned to reality, and the criminal was still strangling me. I opened my eyes and looked at him directly.
I don't know what happened, but his grip on my neck loosened. I took the opportunity and escaped from his hands.
I held the dagger with all my strength and drove the blade into his neck with all the power I had left.
The criminal grabbed the dagger in his neck, shocked, and his entire body fell on top of me.
I struggled to push him away, but to no avail, the remaining three approached me while they looked at what I had done.
"This damned kid gouged out my eye, I'll kill him right here."
The person whose eye I had gouged out spoke and moved the body that was on top of me and struck me directly in the face.
Punch!
Punch!
Punch!
He started hitting me with all his strength like a madman. He kept punching me non-stop, and in the process, I lost consciousness several times until the armored person stopped him.
"Stop, the buyer will arrive soon."
He spoke with cold indifference to what had happened to his companions.
When the person heard his words, he stood up immediately and moved away from me.
Inhale! Exhale! Inhale! Exhale!
I started to regulate my breathing with blood running down my face. I felt that most of the bones in my face were broken, but despite that, I mocked the man whose eye I had gouged out.
"Well done, what a good puppy you are! Hahaha."
The person trembled with anger as he moved away.
When the atmosphere calmed down, I heard a knock on the door.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"It seems the buyer has arrived."
Another one of them said and went to open the door.
"Welcome, Mr. Pur..."
Before he could complete his sentence, the entire person flew and hit the opposite wall of the house, dying immediately.
Everyone, including the armored person, was surprised. We looked at the door, and the person standing at the door was none other than Garoun, the strange hunter who had saved me from the wolf and let me sleep in his house.
"Garoun!"
I shouted at the top of my lungs, ignoring my wounds and pain when I saw him.
But he didn't look at me and kept his eyes on the armored person.
Both were staring at each other until the person whose eye I had gouged out ran directly towards Garoun with his dagger to attack him.
I don't know what happened, but suddenly the criminal flew into the air and hit the wall next to his dead friend.
"Huh? What happened, how did this person fly like that, I only saw Garoun lowering his arm when the person flew quickly."
At that time, I didn't know the kind of world I had been reborn into.
