My Perfect Apocalyptic Life

Chapter 23 - Anyone Need a Ride?

【A wonderful life begins by facing everything with a smile. Please keep smiling, host. The goddess of luck is watching over you. Staying polite might bring unexpected rewards.】

The sudden content made Meng Xu’s fierce demeanor soften instantly.

He flashed a bright, radiant smile and greeted the zombie charging at him in a security uniform: “Isn’t this Uncle Wang? You’re working hard, patrolling the underground parking lot even at noon. How did you know I started a company and became a boss?”

Security Officer Wang snarled menacingly, ignoring Meng Xu’s greeting, and rushed at him like a predator.

As the zombie lunged, Meng Xu swung the bat, hitting it squarely on the head, knocking it to the ground, then stepping forward to finish it off.

Quick and clean.

No sooner had he dealt with it than another figure came rushing from the distance, eyes fierce, with black blood stains all over.

Sighing, Meng Xu then expertly swung the bat, creating a perfect arc that struck Zhang Boss directly on the head, causing the eyeballs to fly out of the sockets as the body tumbled to the ground.

Meng Xu pulled out a wrench and repeatedly struck the head until the effects on the brain were apparent and the skill ‘Reading the Room’ disappeared. (Unless it’s a special case, there’s no need to prompt for ordinary zombies.)

Meng Xu was astounded to find that he could name many of the zombies in the underground parking lot.

Even if he couldn’t recall a name, they had occasionally commuted together.

After all, they were all in the same building, seeing each other on a regular basis—if not acquaintances, at least familiar faces.

In just three days, things turned out like this.

It was heart-wrenching for Meng Xu.

“So many zombies, how cool would it be to distribute leaflets to them if they weren’t attacking me?”

Meng Xu mused, adhering to the principle of “I won’t offend unless offended.”

Even as zombies, Meng Xu was willing to coexist peacefully with them, provided they could offer him value, like Chi Wei and Zhang Tao.

Even if he had to kill all the zombies in the world, Chi Wei and Zhang Tao would definitely be the last two to go.

“Oh right, there’s also a Didi order.”

With that thought, Meng Xu stood up and glanced at the female zombie in the Audi.

After a moment’s thought, without hesitation, he pulled open the car door.

“Roar!”

The female zombie growled lowly.

It must be said that this female zombie retained some beauty, having mutated directly; her face was largely intact, with purple veins and pale eyes being the only signs of infection.

With enthusiasm, Meng Xu waited for the female zombie to lunge at him before kicking her to the ground. Then, grabbing the baseball bat, he fiercely targeted the limbs of the female zombie, shouting as he struck, “Miss, do you need a taxi? Where are you going? Do you need a ride?”

“Speak up!”

The bat came down, and the arm was broken.

The zombie let out a howl.

“Are you going or not? I’m not an illegal taxi; I just don’t have a license.”

There was still no response, Meng Xu reluctantly broke her legs too.

The roaring continued.

No task appeared for a while, and Meng Xu eventually concluded that the zombie wouldn’t input a destination. He sighed and delivered a final blow with the wrench, cracking open the zombie’s head.

“Really? Is nobody here for a ride?”

Meng Xu continued searching for the Mercedes, shouting loudly.

Some scattered zombies appeared, but Meng Xu methodically took them down one by one. For him, dealing with zombies had become rather effortless, unless, of course, five or more showed up at once.

What should I do if more than five appear?

Run.

What else?

Since acquiring the Perfect Life System, Meng Xu feels his mental state is better than ever!

It was just puzzling why his system continually indicated that his spirit stat remained at only 9 points.

After searching, Meng Xu finally found a Mercedes E300 in the corner, which lifted his spirits.

Recalling the driving skills he had practiced the summer after graduating high school, Meng Xu fired up the engine with determination.

“Vroom, vroom!”

The car roared twice, then smoothly drove off.

After Meng Xu left, two pairs of eyes watched him through the gray tint of a Xiali car’s sun-proof glass, heaving a deep sigh of relief.

A woman, visibly relieved yet still with a trace of fear, whispered to the man beside her, “Honey, he’s gone. We can go out now, right?”

Sitting in the passenger seat, the man seemed despondent, answering weakly, “The car’s out of gas. It won’t get us far.”

“I told you we should have gone out earlier and asked him for a ride!” The woman said shakily, not quite ready to give up.

“He was asking if anyone needed a taxi, right? We could have just paid him more!”

Hearing her words, the man suddenly erupted, standing up abruptly and exclaiming in astonishment.

“Are you crazy? That guy’s a madman! It’s the apocalypse, zombies everywhere, and he’s greeting zombies while abusing them, asking if anyone needs a ride… Can he be normal?! It’s better to be bitten by zombies than to fall into his hands!”

“Calm down; I saw the keys weren’t pulled from that Audi, and it looks like the parking lot zombies have been cleared. Let’s check if we can drive it away.”

The man took a deep breath and added, “We’ve run out of food, so we have no choice but to move. If there are zombies, then it’s just our bad luck.”
