My straight roommate is so good

Chapter 6

There was no way to avoid it, so he could only face it with a smile.

With great psychological pressure, Qiao Song took a step forward and walked toward Ling Jianshu.

Ling Jianshu had one hand in his pocket, his gaze slightly lowered as he looked at him. There was a casual and laid-back charm in his eyes, making him even more attractive.

This scene was bound to become a white moonlight** in the hearts of many.

But Qiao Song had no time to appreciate someone’s handsomeness, his heart was in a panic.

Trying to appear calm on the surface, he asked in a low voice while looking at him, “Are you here to see me?”

“Yes.” Ling Jianshu pulled a key out of his pocket and held it out to him. “I’m here to give you this.”

With long, slender fingers, he held out a brand-new key, offering it to the person in front of him without hesitation.

Qiao Song felt the scene was somewhat ambiguous. Afraid of being seen by more people, he quickly took the key and stuffed it into his pocket, whispering, “Thank you.”

Though he was flustered, he still managed to put on a composed expression.

Ling Jianshu found it amusing and couldn’t help but laugh lightly. He asked, “Why so nervous? It’s just a dorm key, not something scandalous.”

“I’m not nervous.” Qiao Song shook his head and awkwardly changed the subject, “By the way, don’t you have training this afternoon?”

“Yeah, I’m about to go.”

“I kept forgetting to ask, what sport do you practice?”

“Guess.”

Qiao Song thought for a moment and hesitantly asked, “Swimming?”

Ling Jianshu didn’t confirm or deny it; he just asked, “Why do you think it’s swimming?”

He earnestly started analyzing, “You don’t have a racket or anything, so it should be a sport like swimming or running, where you don’t need much equipment. Running is done on the track, no need for the gym. And swimmers have great bodies…”

He paused, then continued, “You have a great body, too.”

He had just complimented his physique.

That felt good to hear. Ling Jianshu’s mood brightened, and he smiled slightly.

He deliberately held back, not letting the smile become too obvious, and coolly said, “Makes sense, but you guessed wrong.”

“It’s not swimming?” Now Qiao Song was genuinely curious, “What is it, then?”

Ling Jianshu didn’t beat around the bush anymore and simply said, “Boxing.”

“………?”

Qiao Song pressed his lips together, his eyes moved from his face downward, first sweeping over his sharp jawline, then his prominent Adam’s apple, straight collarbones, broad shoulders, and finally landing on his muscular arms.

If Ling Jianshu punched him, he thought, he might actually die.

Homophobic straight guy. Ship couple. Boxing. Powerful arms.

These keywords combined and glaringly announced a fact to him: Congratulations, you’re one step closer to death.

He was lost in his miserable thoughts when Ling Jianshu’s voice suddenly snapped him back to reality.

“Let’s add each other on WeChat?”

Ling Jianshu’s heart was actually beating a bit faster when he said this, but he didn’t show it. His tone remained casual, as if he didn’t care.

“… What?”

The topic shifted so quickly that Qiao Song didn’t react immediately, his gaze filled with confusion as he looked at him.

Ling Jianshu didn’t mind and opened WeChat to the “Scan QR code” screen, patiently saying to Qiao Song, “Let’s add each other on WeChat. I’ll add you to the dorm group; it’ll be easier to keep in touch.”

The homophobic boxing champion had spoken. Qiao Song didn’t dare to refuse, so he obediently took out his phone and exchanged WeChat contacts with him.

Qiao Song’s WeChat profile picture was of a cat.

Ling Jianshu looked at the newly added cat icon in his list and finally felt satisfied.

“I’m off, contact me on WeChat if you need anything.” With that, he turned and walked toward the gym.

Qiao Song stood in place, watching him walk a short distance away. He couldn’t resist and called out to him, “Shu brother.”

Ling Jianshu was no stranger to being called that; both Cheng Yuan and Jun Ming in the dorm addressed him this way.

But for some reason, the way Qiao Song’s cool, clear voice uttered the same words seemed to carry an extra layer of ambiguous meaning, teasing his heart.

He paused in his steps, stunned for a moment before snapping out of it. He turned back to him and asked, “What’s up?”

“Nothing, really, just…” Qiao Song hesitated and mulled over his words for a while, finally managing to say, “Train well, and don’t check the forums.”

That afternoon, Qiao Song’s piano practice was distracted, and he kept making mistakes on a fugue piece he usually played with ease.

Ling Jianshu had already added him to the 603 dorm group chat.

Cheng Yuan and the unseen roommate Jun Ming warmly greeted him in the group.

He felt bad about not responding to their enthusiasm, so he sent a few cheerful and cute stickers in reply.

Unfortunately, he himself was neither cheerful nor cute at that moment.

The lacquered piano reflected his troubled expression, a far cry from the stickers he had just sent.

… What to do?

If Ling Jianshu saw the posts about their couple ship, would he really come and beat him up?

He was anxious and unable to focus on playing, so he gave up and grabbed his phone to check the forum.

He originally just wanted to see if there were any comments from someone who might be Ling Jianshu.

But to his surprise, there was now another post in the popular section tagged with “Lawsuit Couple.”

“[Lawsuit Couple] Handing Over New House Keys in Public? LJS, Don’t Be Too Loving!”

Frowning, Qiao Song clicked on the post, and sure enough, there was a photo clearly capturing the moment outside the art center where Ling Jianshu handed him the key.

The comments were filled with people screaming “Ahhhh” like a chorus of groundhogs.

He scrolled through the comments of both posts, and fortunately, there was no sign of Ling Jianshu so far.

But this didn’t ease his worries.

After all, an invisible sword was still hanging over his head, and it hadn’t fallen yet.

He sighed in frustration, feeling that things were getting more and more out of control, and increasingly difficult to handle…

Next door at the gym, in the boxing training room.

Ling Jianshu swung hard at the punching bag, but once again, his punch was off target.

In just half an hour of training, he had made this kind of mistake over ten times—something that shouldn’t happen, completely out of line with his usual performance.

The coach, unable to watch anymore, walked over and patted his shoulder, concerned, “What’s going on today? Why are you so distracted?”

Ling Jianshu knew he wasn’t in the right state, so he didn’t argue and just said, “Sorry.”

The coach sighed, “I’m not asking for an apology. I’m asking what’s going on. Are you not feeling well or what?”

“I’m not unwell.”

“Then something’s on your mind?”

Ling Jianshu pressed his lips together but didn’t deny it.

Seeing his attitude, the coach understood, “You can’t train properly in this state. How about this, take a break for fifteen minutes and deal with whatever’s bothering you.”

This suggestion suited him perfectly.

Without even a word of courtesy, he quickly removed his boxing gloves, saying, “Thanks, coach.”

The coach could only wonder what big issue could make the usually composed Ling Jianshu so eager.

It wasn’t anything serious, really.

He just wanted to check the forum posts.

At first, he wasn’t that curious, but Qiao Song kept trying to stop him, which only made him more intrigued.

People are rebellious by nature; the more you’re told not to do something, the more you want to do it.

Heclimbed down from the training platform, went to the locker to grab his phone, and then sat on a bench beside the training area to rest.

As he pondered why Qiao Song didn’t want him to see the posts, he unlocked his phone and logged into the school forum, which he hadn’t visited in ages.

Seeing the bold, large-font titles on the homepage mentioning “Campus Prince” and “Piano Department Prince,” he knew the posts were about him and Qiao Song.

A straight guy is, after all, a straight guy.

He didn’t understand what “Lawsuit Couple” in the title meant, so he clicked on the most popular post, planning to study it carefully.

In the main post, there was a picture of him and Qiao Song standing under the evening shadows of trees, gazing deeply into each other’s eyes.

He stared at the picture for a few seconds, then, for some reason, he found himself saving the image to his phone.

He had the right to his own image, so he was fully justified in saving the picture.

As he mentally justified his actions, he opened his photo album, found the newly saved picture, and zoomed in on Qiao Song’s expression.

No wonder this post became popular.

Such a beautiful boy, with lips slightly parted like petals, looking up at him with unblinking eyes.

This version of Qiao Song was really…

He hesitated and restrained himself multiple times, but in the end, he couldn’t hold back. He admitted defeat and thought.

He was really enticing.

** “White moonlight” is a Chinese metaphor for someone who remains a perfect and unattainable love in a person’s heart.
